Most of the time in audio world we are mixing for stereo destinations. Livestreams? Stereo. In-ears? Stereo. Records? Stereo.
PA systems? They’re a bit different.
Live sound systems, yes, it's typically fair to give it a left and right mix, but our audience could be anywhere within the audience plane.
What if your beautiful stereo spatialized mixed is just going to a single speaker that's maybe hung in the center covering the full audience, or it's going to a series of mono speakers that have specific zones that they are covering with zero overlap?
How do you make sure your mix is going to translate? We'll first get on the same page on the true differences between mono and stereo, then we'll jump into six tips for making sure your mix can stand up in a mono environment.

I just got the email notification and thought "Man, I'm gonna be early to this video" only to see that it's already been out for two hours. Gotta double check my YT notification settings lol

I've never encountered a Mono PA in live music venues or festivals, but mid / lip fills and other types of fill setups are often in Mono. So I found this video educational anyway!

Pretty cool timing on this one for me too. I did a show a few weekends ago where the stage was quite wide.
I've always mixed my shows in stereo, but I had problems with my usual hard pans that left either side of the audience not hearing something from the opposite end of the stage.
I really struggled to try and my make space for everything that was overlapping with eq, but it got to be a mess. Started to wonder about learning about this, because I know lots of techs only mix in left and right mono.
Anyways, too tired to follow all of this right now, but I'll come back to it tomorrow.
    Thanks for the video!

17:22 For monitoring I can recommend IEMs that conform to a neutral target curve, like IEF Neutral 2023, plus then wearing a 3M Peltor on top, to get proper isolation. Otherwise you'll either need to absolutely blast the levels.
An example for a neutral IEM would be the Truthear Zero:Red. DO NOT buy IEMs that you can't find measurements of, no matter how expensive they are!

Great tips, once again. Thanks Michael. I find myself doing most of them by instinct, but it's good to put meaning to my actions.

    My system is mono
    A sub
    And a center..8inch speaker + 4inch
    As for stereo only tweeters
    Later i added 6inch speakers as L and R
Then i feeded M in center
    And feeded S in L
And feeded inverted S in R
Thats how it is now ..

I’m sorry to say that this video did not answer the question of how to deliver a stereo mix to a mono PA. As a DJ, I sometimes need to feed the mix to very large rooms using multiple speakers, or to multiple rooms using single speakers, and want the stereo signal to be delivered in mono (L+R). You needed to 'land the plane' as you say.
