  • The Genshin Impact community has felt pretty agitated lately. 😤 The game is going on four years old now, and things are starting to feel... formulaic.
We know what to expect from the game now. 3 months of archon quests, lantern rite, then some dry patches and side stories until we make it to the next region.
Do you think Genshin is starting to feel formulaic? Do you think there's enough variety? What type of content would you like to see?
Leave a comment and I'll respond!

In my opinion with the chronicle wish banner was a good idea but poorly executed. Like these characters and weapons are old, if they would get a rerun they won't rly sell. So if they won't sell, just make the whole banner more accessible. You already have to save months for the normal limited banner and you have to make decisions if you want to skip or pull for characters, so having another banner with basically the same pity system on top makes it even harder especially since fate points don't carry over

    • @eastonair
      @eastonair  Місяць тому +203

A lower pity would be more in-line with the old Mondstadt characters’ current value.
Maybe they would have had a hard time justifying the weapons? Beacon of the Reed Sea and Hunters Path are both really high value. Looking ahead, a Liyue or Inazuma Chronicled Wish might be more valuable too.

@@eastonair for weapon I could somewhat agree, but for character they should have made it so pity is like 50 and there is no 50/50 and no one would have a problem and would like this banner. This banner at it's current state is just competing with the already existing one, which makes it so unattractive to pull for. Rather it should be an additional banner to give more people easier access to older units that won't sell anyway

The biggest problem is that it uses intertwined fates instead of acquaint fates. Acquaint fates are given out more often (BP and mail rewards) than intertwined (yes on BP but you need to buy the better version). All of the standard banner 5 stars can be obtained from the limited banners so it’s kinda useless. If the chronical banner took acquaint fates instead of intertwined fates it would be a lot more useful because people would have at least some chance for something better. But it takes intertwined fates. Why would I want to spend my intertwined fates on an old 5 star (where pity doesn’t even carry over) when all these newer and stronger characters are being released on limited?

My biggest issue is how much you lose (commissions, event rewards) if you take a break. So when you're burnt out and it's a slow patch, the game starts feeling like a chore. Instead of just taking a break for a few months, you keep playing because of FOMO on premium currency for when the game is engaging again. Hoyo is paying you to keep its player number/play time up, and it becomes a literal daily job. No wonder people feel resentment during these patches every year.

@MUGEN44 I am not saying that people should get the rewards regardless, I'm commenting on the common gacha tactic of getting people to play every day using a reward system and an inherent punishment system, something that is well researched and shown to be effective. It isn't exclusive to Genshin, but if I had to hazard a guess as to why it frustrates people more, I would say it comes down to dailies taking a lot longer in Genshin compared to other games (especially if you include spending resin). I've played many other gacha games over the years and found Genshin to be on the higher end of daily time commitment. TL;DR, it's not that we should expect rewards for doing nothing, but the system still leads to feelings of resentment.

As someone who has been playing Genshin consistently since October 2020, with nearly 1000 days logged in, I'm definitely feeling the stagnation. I think that the main problem is that once you get to a certain point, where you have multiple abyss ready teams that are fully built, it feels like there's nothing left to do in the game when you've done everything there is to offer at that point. The main new content of the game, I.E. new regions, characters, story, and exploration, is still amazing, but there is definitely a sense of not knowing what to do in between those releases. Aside from maybe the TCG, there is no meaningful replayable and challenging content to keep us preoccupied in between major updates. The events feel like chores because players steamroll through them with their overpowered teams. Sometimes, even the exploration feels weird. Before, when I would find enemy camps, it would be exciting, since I would have to actually fight them and cycle through characters and reactions, but now, I can just use Navia by herself to nuke them for 100k damage without switching to any other characters. The lack of content which encourages the player to engage with the mechanics in a meaningful way makes the game just feel off sometimes, because you are never challenged.

Same here. Was playing since october of 2020. However at many, many points I was burnt out from having a bad luck. Like c'mon, I kinda can get together a team to comfortably clear the first 3 levels of abyss. But I've wasted uncountable amount of resin on shitty artifacts. Before Fontaine came out I spent months farming that dungeon that had the Nymph set. I only got a decent feather out of the set. I had around 120 of artifacts whenever Fontaine came out. After I crafted emblem boxes from these trash artifacts over and over, I was left with 2 decent artifacts and 1 good one. Genshin really needs some way to guarantee a specific main stat. Now any form of farm in genshin brings up thoughts that I just waste my time. Add that on top of not getting any of the fun characters that I wanted (no Neuvi, Mona C4; no Itto; no Shenhe; no Ganyu; no Furina; nothing) and now I can hardly force myself to play the game.

No way you said “they should copy honkai’s relics” when it’s almost universally agreed even among HSR fans that it’s way worse than Genshin due to having to farm in a separate mode, no off set pieces and more garbage stats. The self-modeling resin is a band-aid, not a solution.

    I souly blame the director.
It's a known fact that Honkai, Genshin and Star Rail are all run by different directors.
Genshin's director is unfortunately, Cai Haoyu.
A name familiar to early Honkai players.
He's notorious for not listening to fans whatsoever, and is incredibly stingy with rewards.
Honkai was in the exact same spot before Genshin's release since he was the head director. And now he's the head director of Genshin.
Thats why games like Star Rail feel much more rewarding, because their director actually listens to feedback (aka rewards, nerfing bosses if too hard)
And with Dehya, i absolutely hate how they ruined her kit. I still main her, but i have her signature, her c1 and perfect artifacts, yet she's still mediocre.
The only reason I'm so hyped for 4.6 is Arlecchino whom I've loved since Winter Night Lazzos.

I think their main goal is to make an anime in video game form, so the story would naturally be their priority. It makes more sense when you learn about Mihoyo’s backstory. This would also explain why they refuse to add a skip button, they want everyone to experience the story.
As far as exploration vs combat, I believe this to be a matter of what more players enjoy. They have access to all the game data and surveys, so it’s not like they don’t know what players want and enjoy. At a certain point, they probably realized that investing their resources into more open world content would be better for their bottom line than focusing on the combat.

Yes, I'm sure they are VERY data driven. I lightly touched on this point in the video but I think the complaints about combat are more prevalent in the online community than in Hoyo's data largely because the nature of participating in an online community (or especially making content about a game) indicates a more hardcore level of enjoyment. There are way more casual players who don't spend as much time online.

If every single patch I got enough primogems to guarantee at least 1 copy of the new character, then getting new characters would actually "be content", but it's not. Not only that, we don't get new ways of using those characters so we are just stuck doing the same thing as always, but with a new team. It's like telling your mother you're sick of eating noodles, and in return she cooks you spaghetti. The last character I cared enough to pull for on it's release was Shenhe. I didn't care about new releases because there were characters released previously that I wanted to pull for. For example, instead of getting Neuvillete, Furina, Navia or the cryo boxing guy I saved up for Raiden. I loved her playstyle, don't get me wrong, but then I realised that all I got was instead of taking 40 minutes to complete my dailies, I did it in 36; instead of winning abyss with 10 seconds remaining, I'd complete it 20 seconds earlier. If the only thing I get from pulling a character is a new way to get 36 stars on abyss, getting new characters is not content. If the addition to the roaster doesn't come with new revolutionary ways of team building and strategy, getting a new character is not content. And even if there are/were/are going to be characters that fill those previous 2 points no problem (like Furina, Nahida, Kazuha, Itto, etc) If the player base isn't able to consistently get at least a copy of every character added to the game, without the need to spend money, getting a new character is not content. Getting a new permanent game mode would be content, adding new combat mechanics is content, adding new areas with new puzzles and exploration tools is content, adding a new character into the game it's not.

    • @Ggigothydra
      @Ggigothydra 23 дні тому +2

Character releases can be considered content when game has no units or is very limited in that specific department. League for example finally realized that new champions are not content, patches are boring so at some point they started to finally add more items into the game (ok league talk over)
For me GI i loved Eula (even though i joined the game 3.3 and left at 4.3-4) I had fun with the open world since i had so much content, but where my passion lies was character building. The building process is so fucking slow its insane. And even when i do get them built the content there is i can just brute it with Eula unless its a lector. The story is so slow, they should atleast be releasing more story or more gameplay, overworld is already super big so not expanding on it massively wont harm the game, in fact it will make it better since they can pack up all the goodies closer together. Dendro was cool mechanic for me to build around after i finally got to sumeru (although its kinda broken but whatev)

@@Ggigothydra yeah, what kept me playing genshin for so long was min maxing my characters. I can't explain to you how long it took me to get a VV em sands piece with 20%+ ER substat for my kazuha, the grinding was insane. Every single character i used needed to have good to great artifacts, decent wasn't enough. When I got done with one, I moved to the next in line, and that's literally all I did. I've built Barbara with 38k hp and 50% healing bonus, lv90 40k hp both kirara and yaoyao, made Thoma a burgeon nuker, even my keqing team rivals my Raiden on abyss. What made me wanna quit is when I built my Xiao and he did like 40k plunges max, while I gave gaming the same build and he did like 90k plunges and 30k basics. The only reason I didn't leave the game right then and there was because I've heard a kazuha rerun was happening on 4.5. I did chest hunting, got my kazuha con and uninstalled. Now I only watch genshin impact content to stay informed. There's still some hope in me that Hoyoverse will take their head out of their own ass and start actually taking care of genshin, and cook something so great that makes me go "I NEED to return and try this", but I doubt that will ever happen.

THANK YOU! Genshin is such a character-centric game (they are what the game is known for more than anything) and I've discussed this with a genshin defending friend before... he always argues that genshin is a game where you have to plan ahead and choose the characters you want because you can't get everyone - without paying obviously - by design. So I see all of these new characters with their cool new combat skills (even if it's just visual and technically doesn't do anything new) and yet I can't get my hands on them because it's a fucking gacha. So you're stuck with the same characters you've been using for the past few months, doing the same boring dailies and abyss clears, and playing the same mind-numbing minigames every day until you save up enough for a chance to get a future character that you hope you'd like... how is that a compelling game to anyone?
It's a single player game for fuck's sake. At least give me more opportunities to get the characters I genuinely want to play with, regardless of how useful they'll really be. Most of their power is loaded into their constellations nowadays and the whales are still going to whale anyway so how bad is it going to hurt their bottomline?

    • @giansabbadini1626
      @giansabbadini1626 14 днів тому +3

@@RadioactiveBlutoniumthat's totally true. Not only that, the "you can't get anyone because it's a gacha and it's designed that way" argument is a huge piece of bs. You know what game is also a gacha? Afk Journey, that just came out. Do you know what that game does? It showers you with pulling currency. In genshin you can get at most 60 primos a day just by doing your dailies with no active events. If you want more, you need to go out of your way to farm chests, unlock way points, complete missions, get achievements, etc. That means that just by doing daily stuff you need 3 days to get 1 pull. Afkj gives you 180 gems just by completing dailies. Each pull needs 300, so in just 2 days of dailies you get a pull. Not only that, but in order to complete those dailies you can do activities (not events) that also give you gems and free standard pulls. I literally arrived late at the game and managed to pull 2 copies of each rated up character, because, and hear this, you can also guarantee the character just by hitting pity! (and it only requires 40 pulls!!). Turns out the problem is not the gacha genre, the problem is that Hoyoverse are such a bunch of greedy pieces of s that think 3 years of love, support and an unhealthy amount of white knighting by a big part of the community is worth 3 pulls. If your friend tries to refute you tell him "no 5 star selector? :("
Edit: did some quick math to see how awful Genshin's practices are.
I terms of value 1/1, 1 primo equals 1.875 gems.
I worst case scenario, you need a max of 12k gems in afkj to guarantee a new unit, in genshin you need 28.8k.
If genshin used the same values as afkj (300 gems a pull), you'd need 54k to guarantee a 5star.
Juts by completing dailies (no missions, no additional rewards, no events, no chests, no nothing) you'd need 2 months (66.7 days) to get a unit. In genshin you'd need almost 1 and 1/3 years (480 days, 1y3m24d). Gacha in not the problem, genshin is.

3:56 Characters are content yes and I doubt anyone disagrees. But if that content is locked behind one of the lowest rates in all gacha games, then not being able to pull said character of course means you don't have any new content.
What's even worse is the fact that they make a problem and sell you the solution. Almost all new character releases purposefully take out an important part of their kit and put it in their C1 sometimes up to C2. Nahida needing various different characters for her burst, Chiori needing Geo constructs, etc all feels like arbitrary requirements they made up on the spot just to then remove it in C1.
Meaning if you truly want your character to be at their base performance you need to pull them twice.
Followed up by usually wanting the weapon banner if you want them at their best.
With "bad luck" (remember this is one of the worst rates in gacha games so this bad luck is quite common for most of the playerbase), this means you need to pity 4 times in character banner and potentially 3 times in weapon banner.
That is an INSANE amount of banners that you will has to miss out just because you want a SINGLE character to be at their best.

Nahida, though? Did I hear someone actually complain about the fact that Nahida needs her C1 to be complete, when she’s already arguably the best support in the whole game at C0, and most people agree that her C1 is just a stepping stone to C2? That doesn’t make any goddamn sense.

Hoyoverse clearly doesn't care about making money with Genshin. Now Honkai Star Rail on the other hand... the revenue speaks for itself.

I do agree because they don't provide like VERY BIG damage characters very often. For example, Chiori, Eula, Dehya etc. But every game/company does want to make money. I don't think this is there priority or ACTUAL goal but it is a very big part since they need income to provide things like characters, new areas etc. And also the fact that paying £50 pounds real money only gives you 25 wishes. THAT IS SO STINGY. And given the fact that a five star (not even guaranteed) can take 90 wishes! In my opinion genshin wishing system is putting a lot of players off the game because they cannot get their desired character - even if your F2P, it would take (if you were not guaranteed) 180 wishes to get your character if you had the worst luck.

Awesome video! I came into this video thinking it was another doom post about Genshin dying during a slow patch. But I was pleasantly surprised to see a very well thought out video covering the many different points of view regarding this topic.
I’m an exploration player first, and what you said here about players like me is spot on! I don’t feel like Genshin is stagnating at all. It’s better than ever in my eyes!
Characters aren’t something I care too much about so all the discourse I see over them just seems silly to me.
I do however agree that combat has been neglected and would enjoy it more if an effort was made in improving the experience. But I’ve come to accept that nothing is changing. I can get my fix for hardcore challenging combat in Dark Souls. I prefer that kind of combat anyways.
The story is a weird one for me as I do actually think the story has gone slightly downhill from Sumeru with Fontaine. But that’s more of a personal preference thing for me. That’s all main story though. The “side” stories however have been incredible and keep getting better. I love the long unvoiced world quests. Plus the lore across the world is amazing too.
When it comes to rewards; I don’t care how much they give us for free. But I do wish that the in game content gave us more rewards for completing them. Like I wish completing a difficult puzzle rewarded us with more than completing an easy puzzle. I wish long world quests rewarded us with more than just 60 primos for each section. I wish we acquired more items like weapons and gadgets through exploration instead of just chests with primos.
Side note: That Kyon pfp totally suits you

I quit after Sumeru release (the update with the desert region) so perhaps some of my thoughts are outdated now, but I'd like to note some stuff:
    - If you don't like a patch, you can't not play it. You're forced to play every patch in order to get primogems to get future characters. The biggest problem is when you don't even know what characters are appearing in the future; you can't exactly be hyped for the possibility of upcoming characters that you don't know about. The events are also boring, but I'm forced to play through them for primogems. In contrast, if you look at say HI3, you can log in for 2 days in a week and still get 90% of the currency needed for gacha, though of course you'd need to spend more time per day than if you logged in every day. Meanwhile events normally only gives you less than 10% more currency as well (it should be noted that HI3's events are also better than Genshin's, especially since a decent amount of them is just normal combat, though those usually give less currency), with the exception of stuff like anniversary events, so if you dislike all events and only care somewhat about maximizing the pulls you get, then you rarely need to care about events.
    - Similarly, I didn't care for the story of the main quest in the desert region of Sumeru. But I was forced to do it before I could engage with any of the puzzles which includes puzzles that unlock places to explore, even though puzzles and explorations are the things I actually want to do. Genshin refused to add a skip button. This also adds to the aforementioned problem of events. The main archon quest was fine since it was decent, but as soon as you fail to interest me in a single part of the story, then that part feels like a chore that I am forced to play to unlock exploration. The story as a whole is also just not the best, so it's not even a rarity to have to do the chore of using an autoclicker to skip through the story and checking back every minute to see if you have to pick a dialogue option that your autoclicker isn't hovering over (which is a worse problem on mobile, which is what I play Genshin on). The story is made even worse by the lack of any way to reexperience old events in-game, which just makes me feel like it's not worth even bothering to follow the story. I've taken a year-long break by now (I think?), and idk what events have occurred, but imagine if I return to Genshin right now and learn that Oh actually Kokomi is a dragon, this was revealed in an event that's already over. Or imagine new players learning about Albedo's lore that was revealed purely in an event. It feels like I have to reference third-party sources to actually know very damn important lore.
    - Genshin's combat is a broken promise. It is quite deep but never incentivizes you to explore it. Aside from the obvious stuff like elemental reactions, every open world game naturally has stuff like pushing enemies off a cliff or into water, that non-trivial content in the game never engages with. The Anemo Hypostasis tests your gliding skills. Why not have a floor in the Spiral Abyss that spawns enemies that are immune to damage until the Anemo Hypostasis dies? You have to try to ensure they don't attack you while you're gliding to stop Anemo Hypostasis from reviving too many times, which you can do either by skill, by restarting enough times to get good rng, or by Freezing enemies or Taunting them or using a shield or other ways to reduce interruption. I believe they once did something similar on Oceanid where you have to glide? I don't really remember.

yes, fuck the desert quests and also aranara quest line
I can't agree completely with the exploration being a plus
of course they are fresh and well designed
but the exploration experience is rewarding because of either the story or your character getting stronger
why is it so taboo for them to give a random 5-star artifact for every luxurious chest? we still get fucking iron point from those
why not a random 4-star weapon for every precious chest or 10 pull for completing a location to 100% exploration?
I think those would make exploration more enticing
now the story, since sumeru I've hated most open world quests. It's about some ruins from long long ago. and we're not even talking kaenriah era where we might have some involvement. It's about some slave rebellion or royal family massacre that we will never have any participation in or any other pay off than "I guess that happened".
there's still good relatable stories like with jeht or auxiliary stories that do touch on kaenriah like elynas
but there's way too much nothing burgers and blah in these dry patches
I'd rather we explored and solidified the plot points of the main story. Like refining celestia? World npcs just stopped talking about them after mondstat. I mean has no one else thought about it? What makes a god a god (what is divinity)? Because liyue sure has plenty of gods where Inazuma doesn't have more than 3 mentioned. Sure you can keep some conclusions for the end of the game but at least give some ratifications like: what really is celestia or the world geography/overall order or the 3 realms of human, light, and abyss; why are there animal people, they sure don't sound referenced in those older than kaenriah stories - wtf happened there. I'd rather have more stories on those than wtf the nazi order in fontaine were doing. which spoiler, also has no good payoff for us and our story. there are also plots that go nowhere: wtf was snake people, wtf was the golden sleep? they keep introducing more and more things that end up in gray areas or nowhere at all. and they introduce more and more complicated factions like hexenzirkel that are left to speculation. at the end they will just be plot mechanic of the elderly powerful group that helps you but they make it seem like you're gonna have a whole patch about them.
I thought we'd explore most of these in Sumeru but nope they filled it instead with 90 hours of frustrating aranara baby talk.
You can only pull off so much sob stories that we'd care about in these world quest npcs, hoyo.
It's starting to get old and predictable. At least ratify the world building of the main story.
Latern Rite is also old and predictable. you can only make so much references about chinese values and culture until people are tired about it. like the last one is focused on family. you really couldnt let that happen in another country? you think family values are only specific to chinese culture? Just skip one year and let some other country have the spotlight. It will do wonders for both. But of course, they gotta keep that propaganda going. CNY sells to their main audience

I refuse to take the combat players seriously when we have a 100% RNG loadout system in this game. Yes I am a story/exploration player, but I still like to build my main units to their strongest version. Artifacts have singlehandedly made me quit trying to be serious with the combat for way too many times. I have spend a whole ass year strongboxing artifacts for my triple crowned Cyno, yet the result is still an average set that my Yanfei beats, despite me benching her over a year ago. I want to play combat, I want to make my characters strong, but artifacts are the sole reason all those desires end up dying. As someone who has been playing this game from day one non-stop until the release of Sumeru after which I started playing the game on and off only when there's a new archon quest or a character that I like gets released or a rerun. I'd say the formula itself is not the issue. The lack of end game content outside of the abyss, and the TCG, the resin cap, the material and artifact grind is. Or in short the lack of midcore and hardcore content. Star Rail works on the same formula as Genshin does and it doesn't suffer from the same issues as Genshin does. Not the the same extent at least.
Once a patch drops with a new character and region, in the first week you clear the stories it brought, after that the hang out events. Then explore the new region. Once you're bored or done with the exploring where do you go next? Obviously the Abyss. You do the Abyss until you clear it and after that what's next? Sure there are the events but what do you do between the events or after you cleared them? Sure you can do the abyss again but why?
Star Rail solves that issue with the additional content of Simulated Universe and Pure Fiction. New patch drops with a new character and region. Clear the story. Explore the new area. Once you're done go play Memory of Chaos. Once that's done go for Pure Fiction. Once that's done Simulated Universe. Once that's done go with a new path for the Simulated Universe, and each different path asks for a different approach so there's more incentive to build new characters and try out different team comps.
And while that's not a perfect fix for the lack of mid to hardcore content it still offers more than what Genshin does.

Also the hated characters, it's clear that the fandom has favorite characters and if for some reason their character don't come on the banner but instead a less liked character they all put their hate into that character, even though for some people they really wanted that character. Right now i no longer farm abyss, farm primos, farm events. I only binge main stories and explore new areas with a few months gap. Heck I randomly open genshin just to roam the world while listening to its music as a sort of therapeutic session.
Still though I'm so busy with college these days that I can't keep up with the game as much even falling behind on the main stories and region explorations (honestly during sumeru year genshin peaked there for me since it was at that time I lost my tryhard sentiments and it was still my 1st year on college so harder topics isn't discussed yet allowing me to have more playtime). Luckily though I'm the type of person who really enjoys majority of genshin stories including world quests which are only getting better as patches go, the busyness of my life helped me appreciate some of the random ass world quests I encounter while roaming the world.

I agree with pretty much everything you said except one thing, I don't believe that the combat focused players "pay the most attention to the game." To me, genshin will always be a story-based exploration game with deep, interesting lore at the forefront and the combat as an equally good side component. I feel that if you only focus on combat (sitting on a backlog of 50 world quests and story quests you have no intention of finishing) then you definitely aren't paying the most attention to this game. Personally I enjoy the combat very much, I always 36 star my abyss every rotation, but I also have 100% exploration of the entire map, 1100+ achievements and a clear quest log. I would argue that's "paying the most attention to the game" don't you think? At least in my humble opinion it seems the well-rounded players who not only enjoy combat but also the story, exploration and lore might be the ignored silent majority.

Genshin is so focused on the story tbh. I once saw someone say that Teyvat itself is almost like a character in the game, and honestly I agree.
The amount of lore put into this game. Yes, hoyo only cares about money, but the devs? The people building this world? It's not just money to them. Just look at teyvat.
Decarabian lore. Guizhong lore. Watatsumi and Enkanomiya. The Chasm and Yaksha's. King Deshret, the goddess of Flowers. The Melusines and Elynas. Chenyu Vale's history. There is just so MUCH put into this world of Teyvat. If this was just a cash cow, they'd release main story and waifu dates and call it a day. They did not need to give us lore on flowerpot descriptions. They didn't need to give us history on the Yakshas, the moon sisters, the seelies.
I agree the higher ups in hoyo only care about how much money genshin makes, but it also takes a lot of money to make genshin.
Personally I think combat-only players are doing this game a disservice. Teyvat is so rich and detailed.

As a newer player(only been playing since Xianyun’s banner, I think the worst thing has to be missing out on all the story from previous events. Both my favorite character Kazuha and Xiao have story behind them that we don’t see in the Archon and Story Quests but I won’t ever get to experience that in game because they don’t put event stories in the game after they finish. It sucks that instead of experiencing it myself I have to watch a video of someone else doing it or read the wiki instead. The progression system also sucks for newer players. If you enjoy the Archon and Story quests, you do them but then your AR gets too high with horribly built characters. You’re incentivized to save your intertwined fates for characters you really want, yet there comes a point where you absolutely need well built five stars. The Tatara Tales final act quest in particular. I struggle on that quest so long because I didn’t want to level up the 4 stars I had because I knew I would pull for a five star soon. You need to save your resin for boss drops, talent domains, artifacts, and weapon materials so I didnt want to waste resin on a 4 star I would inevitable bench. I was put in a position where I couldn’t level up the characters I had but also couldn’t get new ones. I did end up getting 2 more five stars with my Xiao and cleared the quest easy. I think that the AR system absolutely sucks especially with the world level being so high and your characters not meeting it. The world quests are also so dumb imo. They have no voice acting and quite frankly just yap about stuff that should be interesting if it was stated well. You have to do them for Primos and unlocking areas(desert scarabs for Cyno) but they’re tedious af. I really like Genshin and I think it’s really fun, it’s just so hard for new players to actually get decent accounts for a while .
Edit: The artifact Rng also sucks. I’ve spent 700+ resin on Vermillion Hearafter with 1 semi-decent artifact. This domain is absolutely terrible and I get things that are completely unusable for Xiao as his best in slot. At this point I feel like just giving up on the domain but I can’t as I need both because I plan to pull for Ayato. You can’t ever deal the big numbers because of the terrible artifact luck which makes me struggle in the abyss and open world (AR 52 and WL 7)

Exploration is the one thing i know dislike the most tbh. Gives you no sense of achievment and even when the regions look diffrent they all just feel the same.
Enemies that give you nothing for killing them, have no cool attacks and dont require you to use diffrent strategies.
Farming is sh*t because you have to run around with a map on a diffrent screen to see the locations to then wait 2 days for stuff to respawn and do that for 2 weeks for few hours every day then youll have enough for the character you are farming for.
The puzzles are mostly boring and to many, they are fun doing 30 times but not 300, same issue as with chests, getting 30 chests with good loot is cool but getting 300 with nothing but scraps and furniture feels bad.
Game telling you you have 100% even tho you are at 81%.
No use for your build characters so no need to farm for them either, just use the artifacts you get from weekly bosses and you good for most content, abyss dosnt even give you good rewards either so doing it has no point since pulling for new characters is useless because you cant use them anywhere.
In a stream a few days ago, idk who it was that said it like tenha or tuona idk, they said ZZZ will need a reason for players to log in every day because in the beta it didnt have that.... well genshin didnt have that since 2.5 tbh and with all the disappointments one after another it gets hard going back into the game.

I don't agree that they feel the same. They are simply NOT SATISFYING
of course they are fresh and well designed
but the exploration experience is rewarding because of either the story or your character getting stronger
why is it so taboo for them to give a random 5-star artifact for every luxurious chest? we still get fucking iron point from those
why not a random 4-star weapon for every precious chest or 10 pull for completing a location to 100% exploration?

I miss labyrinth warriors. It was like beta version for SU in hsr. And tbh first events around 1.0-2.5 were really good. They were challenging and fun, even for low ar players (though they couldn't get all the rewards, because rewards did not scale with their ar, which i still find stupid af, but it is what it is).
These days we have either easy battle modes or boring mini-games. There's no place where i can use my characters that i pulled and waste my time to build.
I mean, take a look at Navia. She was released with dedicated set, that needs to be farmed for her. And i'm still farming (best i could farm since Navia's release is 67/197), but then i ask myself a question: do i really need to farm that set? I mean, i stole my Ning's artifacts, strongboxed some more, rearranged, returned some to Ning, and now they both have nice 2 piece/2 piece builds, where Navia has 80/222 ratio and Ning returned to her old build. With that ratio i can clear abyss. Yes the dmg a bit lower than if it was with dedicated set, but she still does her job just fine. So what's the point of farming then? What's the point of searching for ideal artifacts for your characters that already can clear the only hard content in the game - abyss?
When i think like that i lose all my motivation to go on. And for the record, i'm a geo main, i clear abyss with characters like Itto and Ning, as my main dmg dealers. Characters that considered weak by many players. Heck i think the only meta unit i have from the 5*s is Kazuha. This is the state of abyss rn. It's easy! If you build your characters right, if you somewhat understand reactions, and if you use supports - you won't have a problem with abyss, unless it's your device or ping that abstruct your progress i dunno.
Anyway, i'm not a hardcore player myself, i just want a place where i can test limits of characters i build, and that could give me motivation and hype to pull for the new units. Like really, because abyss is so easy, i don't pull for new characters unless they're geo (just to add for collection), i don't see the point in it, because there's no place or mode where i can use them anyway. In the open world everything dies fast. The events lately provide test characters. Is there really a point of getting new characters? I mean yes, if you like them, why not, but tbh the last character that made me say "wow" when i saw them was probably Eula back in the 1.5. I have specific taste, i think. I don't like every character that comes out.
I might find them good or stylish (like Wriothesley or Shenhe) but not to the point where i can't help but get them. If you get what i mean. Dunno why but genshin's designs don't impress me lately. In comparison with HSR, every new patch they introduce characters whose designs i really like. Like Aventurin or Boothill (i hope i get them both). So it's really subjective, i guess.
Sorry for the wall of text. I'll quit genshin eventually. Not now, because i still want to see Snezhnaya, and i need to collect some cons for my geo guys, but after all that i'll say my goodbyes to this game, despite the fact that i really love combat and characters i pulled.

Yeah, Labyrinth Warriors was great! I'd love if they brought it back.
Unfortunately, the only way to truly push the limits of a character and teambuilding is through abyss speedrunning, which isn't popular in the EN community. With no in-game rewards, it's a very self-motivated activity but there are a couple small speedrunning groups that share runs and tips to improve. In CN, there are player-organized competitions with cost brackets for F2P/dolphins/whales. The big EN misconception is that you have to be a big spender to speedrun abyss. Not true!
It might be worth trying if you want to really push your teams beyond "just clearing" the abyss! I've done it a little and it's humbling to see how much you can improve your damage through strategy and tight rotations. Jamie has some nice videos showcasing what Navia/Chiori can do. ua-cam.com/video/ZNcXyFqj_yo/v-deo.html
Thanks for watching and sharing your thoughts. 🙂

@@eastonair i'm from EU, here some type of challenges are popular, but for the most part people are casuals, at least from what i experienced.
The thing is - i don't like abyss, it's not fun to do. And i feel burned out anyway, so i don't really enjoy playing the game lately tbh. That's why i log in like twice a week, do some events and log out. Maybe if it was me from a year ago i'd like to try out speed running abyss and so on. But nowadays i'm just happy that i can clear it with ease. Usually i have like 40-50 seconds on the clock left, or if buffs are good it can be 60 seconds.
I watched some competitions videos, those are really cool. But i'm not that sweaty, so it's not for me. As i've said, i'm not a hardcore player, i'm smth in the middle. I like combat, but abyss gives me depression.
A year ago i created a challenge account, just to make my experience fun again. But this game has so much limitations, so many fixed issues that no one asked to be fixed that i just can't (like drowning enemies for example, a year ago you could drown those samurais just fine, but nowadays it's patched, and there's nothing you can do about it. And yes it took me 4 hours to burn all 22 samurais in Kazuha's quest, and it took me 8 hours to finish the archer challenge in Inazuma's story quest. But the amount of "giving up" because the game forces you to play by rules was annoyingly large). And even on my challenge account, where i forcefully limit myself i managed to get 36* in the abyss here and there (4.1 rotation and 4.4 rotation), and i believe that if i continue to hyper invest in some characters (specifically Neuvellette) i'll be able to 36* every rotation at one point. And yes, i do catalyst only challenge, so no Furinas, Kazuhas, Xianglings etc.
But at the same time i think that why do i have to search the means of entertaining myself in this game, when the game should provide me with the means of entertainment instead? They focus too much on the new players completely ignoring the veterans (i play since release) which i find unfair, and this is also one point to my disappointment. And i'll tell you that disappointment points are pile up... That's why i'm quiting after Snezhnaya. It's decided already.

My complaint which has been consistent since early on, is just a lack of meaningful content to keep me coming back. Commissions? Boring feel like a chore. Events, while sometimes entertaining, sometimes they require a drag of a long story to do, if i’m not into the game rn, a long dialogue ridden back and forth isn’t reeling me in. The abyss just has no reason to be done unless you’re saving for a character. I would argue that saving for characters can be super fun, but if they keep making every limited 5* mid, there’s no point. And I am not saying that characters are bad, but I feel like every new limited 5* or 4* should be good. They don’t have to be gamebreakinf solo abyss 12 level, but good.

I appreciate this video looking through a hopeful perspective and less of a tinted lens. Most of the distain the community have for Hoyo's development cycle of the game seriously seriously ramped up with Starrails release, a sort of "They can have it, why can't we?" Which in itself is a reasonable question, yet also trying to drag down the parts of Genshin that make it good in the process is where the problems begin to arise.
Looking past the whole "rewards" or "lack of endgame content" issues that are often brought up. I truly feel that the biggest problem Genshin is facing right now is in it's story. It's paced absolutely horrendously. There has been practically no visible development on the traveler and they are just region hopping with little to no information being gained on what's going on. The game has been out for almost 4 years now and we only have more questions now than when we began. The Travelers as a character is so unrelatable in the way that they have such little care and motivation for their sibling and quest. I think the most crippling contribution we've had to this problem so far was the fact we finally got some sprinkles of information in Sumeru's story from Nahida, and yet back to literally nothing in Fontaine, alongside the very felt delay of a Dains quest.

I like how you brought up the rate at which they pump out areas to explore in the open world. That was what made me want to play the game before and when the game came out. When I was a kid I use to play all the Myst games. Genshin actually brought that back some of that for me with all the different worlds, maps and areas. The fact that they still keep creating new fresh areas making sure they don't look like older areas is keeping me around still.
For me, It would be cool if they added puzzles that required you to know the written alphabets and numeral systems for the different nations in Teyvat because it would add a massive layer of Immersion being forced to learn to read and work with things created by the different modern and ancient cultures of Teyvat. Doing this could be another creative and more immersive way of delivering lore in Genshin as a reward for solving puzzles. However, I understand this could stress out many players because it would make the puzzles too challenging for people who want to be casual or are more interested in combat.

A point I'd like to bring up is how people's interests also change over time, at the beginning of the game I loved the exploration aspect, Mondstadt, Liyue, Dragonspine, Golden Apple Archipelago were amazing but then in Inazuma it started to become a chore, after hundreds of Oculi, Chests, and Sidequests getting a patch with only "more of the same" felt bad.
Second point is how many people have voiced their opinion, but the devs (not even devs it actually management) refuse to acknowledge most of it and seem to be hellbent on just staying on their exact same path and with their exact same formula, and to be fair it's still making them absurd amounts of money so there's little incentive to change this.
Now on to the issue with characters, design wise they're mostly all outstanding, BUT the big issue was the balancing, it's baffling how they released Dehya in that state, I hate how no support is going to be better than Bennet unless specifically tailored to be so, and even then Hoyo have screwed up specialized supports like Mika, Sara, Goro hell even with Shenhe, let's make her only work with cryo, when there's only two cryo carries in the game and only one of them shows proper synergy BUT at the same time make her buff limited to six hits because she's not niche enough.
The freaking CEO is saying how characters are the "most important content" but the best characters in the game are Bennett, Xingqiu and Xiangling, what's even the point then?

    • @eastonair
      @eastonair  Місяць тому +6

The balance thing is huge, I agree. It's as if they didn't know how good Bennett would turn out to be and have been so scared of making new characters that are as strong as him. I think the proper move would have been to accept Bennett as the "benchmark" so to speak and just balance around him.
Having a couple of comparable attack buffers would make team building options way more flexible and fun!
We have Arlecchino coming who looks really cool, but also her best teams will probably be the same old Pyro DPS teams we have been playing since 2.0.

"Is Genshin Impact Stagnating?" YES and it has been for at least 2 years out of 3 and half. "Characters ARE content"...yeah, anyone totally wants to toss thousands of premium currency ( primogems) on new shiny dolls that will be absolutely vital to solve puzzles and do minigames. C'mon.

I think for combat you can add a personal abyss creator in teapot space, and add a multiple player option where 2 or more ppl can try to clear abyss and they are ranked on the basis of that time. It will also increase player competition and some ppl who can manage to build a well balanced abyss can make it open for public so each player can be ranked. Also to build these you need tickets that are given only when you 36 star abyss so atleast the server is filled with abysses that are made by people who actually want to challenge themselves more. it will also give rise to multiple community events where creators can call speedrunners for competitions

As someone who used to play Genshin like EVERYDAY, Starting out with Sky: Children of the Light made me feel really burnt out once I kept going with it along with Genshin until I dropped Genshin altogether. I believe it's because I found Sky to be much more forgiving game-wise; Sure, there are limited time content such as Seasons and/or Days Events, but Seasonal areas are always open for you to come over and you can always access quests even if the season was over so long ago. Sure, there are items that need you to pay through in app purchases, but a lot (if not all) come back anyway, some even turning into ones you can just pay through in game currency. Sure, Sky might also be grindy once you finish your first adventure, but what I believe it offers differently from Genshin is that they give you more daily cap than Genshin would offer; one day's worth of farming in Sky pretty much gives way for you to purchase quite some items where Genshin's daily quest pretty much gives you half a gacha's worth (And that's only 1 ROLL. Some of you might say dmth different but this is my late game experience as I was about AR50-60 before I dropped).
To sum it all up, I believe what I was finding for that made me get frustrated in the end is that as a player who takes breaks every now and then, I will miss out on a LOT in Genshin plus grinding there is a lot of a chore where it only gives you little as thanks especially if you don't have a battle pass, where in other games that I ended up playing on a regular basis (Monster Hunter and Sky) Satisfies me on a different level due to the grindy but rather rewarding results in the end.

Mika's not worse than Bennett unless he's C6, he's a sidegrade to Bennett's C5 which is already a positive all things considered when you can match-up to the most broken ATK buffer in the game. Start considering how Mika was meant to be paired with Furina so Eula gets to benefit from Furina's buff in her own teams and suddenly the conversation dissipates into Bennett being replaceable now (which has been the goal for a while)

I originally joined to play with friends, then I ended up being the last man standing. I still like the game for the archon quests (sometimes,) and the exploration of the world. It just sucks we don't really have much in the way of Co-Op content aside from exploration, or domains. It'd be cool for hoyoverse to expand upon that.

9:00 I’ve been saying this since Dehya released and I looked back at Eula and Yae Miko and saw how their kits seemed tailor made to benefit from the next archon. People have been calling me insane for over a year now.
I think the fact that Chiori either hints at a possible upcoming Geo rework in Natlan, maybe a molten reaction with pyro, or that the next archon will have a switch mechanic. Maybe a special plunge attack or an explosion upon being switched to.

I'm 1268 days active in Genshin (recently lost to weapon banner), and no absent in HSR (both got Acheron and Aventurine hehe). I usually 100% both games whenever theres a new patch within a day then back to daily chores then logout. after 3 days of exploring the map. then after that, back to real life and focus at work.

I quit Genshin when Tower of Fantasy released, even with all its faults at launch and some as of right now, but slowly picked up again as Lantern Rite 4 was really great. Okay maybe that's somewhat a lie. I returned for Xianyun hnnng lmao. Since picking up ToF though it is very clear for some reason GI and ToF just... need to copy each other but sort of won't. GI has the presentation part down. ToF has the game part down. Tbh ToF is now copying GI more with adding more personality to the chars even though mostly in just their PVs. But the PVs are so good. They blow GI's char PVs out of the water! They feel like an animated short by a real animation studio instead of a commercial for whales.
GI is also humorously copying ToF a little but without enough impact, pun intended. ToF had a bubble gun relic ("gadget") useful for combat and trolling people for fun. GI also got a bubble gun right after but it's a cosmetic toy. Even chars, appearance or gameplay idea, are kinda ripped off from ToF. GI Wanderer + ToF Lin = air mobility and attacking in the air. GI Alhaitham + ToF Saki Fuwa = flurry of sword slashes with extra energy slashes of their element. GI Neuvillette + ToF Ruby = set up giant laser blasts. Now let's return to Xianyun which is why I returned to GI: GI Xianyun + ToF Ling Han = multi-air jumps and even nearly the same color scheme. All of these characters ToF was out first by a few months on CN before Global got them so I wouldn't put it past HoYo for "researching" them for GI. ToF also did underwater region first while keeping the combat system intact instead of GI's just being the exploration gimmick filled with minigames, puzzles, and watered down (ba dum tss) combat for kids.
For another funny reverse of these "copying" cases... ToF's new char Ji Yu is probably gonna get Zhongli'd once she arrives on Global. She gained a ton of interest when she was a featured NPC and the devs admitted they are aware of this on a new version promotion live stream but her kit is an absolute fumble! Ji Yu & Zhongli even have the same color scheme like Ling Han & Xianyun!🤬

As a long time genshin player who began as a hardcore player and then switched over to being a casual player bc of burnout, I can attest that when I was hardcore it got boring at times especially the amount of hours I'd spend farming artifacts and materials and the lack of something entertaining while making me feel like I'm progressing not just story-wise but also strength-wise too. After I stopped playing for a while I tried to get back into it as a causal player but now I just feel like I've fallen too behind and can't catch up to most other players, not only bc of the story quests being too long but also bc if I wanted any of the new characters the amount of time I'd have to spend farming for everything is too time-consuming and if I do try to farm and obtain all the necessary stuff just to make the characters fun and playable then I'll just be too burnt out to wanna play genshin again for awhile thus leaving me with a lack of fun. This is why I feel so frustrated with how unbalanced the game is and how they just somehow keep missing all the elements that would make the game fun to play for hardcore players and casual players along with the old and new players too!!! Like idk maybe make the character's stories replayable, maybe have overworld content that has multi-player opinions too, maybe make farming for everything a lot less tedious by having much more drops or less need for items, opinions to trade with/ gift to others, or something that isn't just a new minigame/ useless characters/ more items!

I used to think liking a character was enough for me since that's what gets me to pull for characters in Fate Grand Order, but Genshin proved me wrong with Dehya's release.
She's the first character I saved 6 months worth of primos for and it's definitely the last lol. I even had to take a 3 month break to get over the dumpster fire I waited for. Welp lesson learned, I'm glad I just went for characters that interest me right away with Fontaine and haven't been disappointed again.
