  • This Omega Seamaster Chronometer watch with the Ref. 198.0008 / 198.008 has seen some stuff over the years. The case, bracelet 1187 and crystal are so scratched that it is in an almost unwearable condition. I am doing a full case work restoration that includes multiple polishing techniques. The Cal. 1250 tuning fork (Accutron) movement is explained in this video.

    It's your watch do what you want with it... I think the restoration was mindful and brought back to life a tired battered watch to its past glory

    I loved this restoration, I think you were sympathetic, given the mess the watch was in and it was fascinating to watch a case and strap being polished through all those different processes 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 My first love is of course the mechanical watches but these early quartz ones have their place in history and this particular model was groundbreaking for it’s time. I can only imagine how expensive the watch would have been when new. Thank you 👍🏻

    I have one the very same. From my father a commercial fisherman. Lost over the side into the north sea twice. Twice retrieved and still humming along 😂

    With an untrained eye I’d say nice restoration. Strained eye would say it should be brushed not polished. An expert eye would say you did zero revision on the movement itself . Still the result is nice

      You are absolutely correct. I just wanted to do a Case restoration as stated in the video title. The "polishing" wheel that I used is applying a brushed finish to the case and bracelet. So it is actually brushed. But an expert would have used a lapping machine for the finish and thus also recut the edges. Sadly I don't that kind of equipment. I wish I would :)

      @@GermanWatchmakingChanneltrue . I also believe there have been different variations of this watch. More polished with less vertical lines. I’ve seen matte with almost tree bark structure and the version I have that’s slightly polished but with vertical lines. Also it is NOT A quarts movement. Bulova does have a quarts and fork combination watch but this is all

    Keep it up man! Im from philippines and also a watch fan..this is pretty rare. I also have an old seiko vibron wallclock also tuning fork movement. My question is in that watch can you still hear the humming sound? Thanks!

    • @GermanWatchmakingChannel
      @GermanWatchmakingChannel  8 місяців тому +3

      You can hear the humming if you keep the watch close to your ear. Depending on your hearing maybe also if it lays close to you.

      @@cetocoquinto4704 I like it too. One tuning fork in the collection seems reasonable. And they are not that expensive as well.

    Hallo,
    ich habe ebenfalls eine f300hz von meinem Großvater geerbt. Leider ist das Gehäuse sehr zerkratzt. Besteht die Möglichkeit, dass sie sich das angucken könnten ? Bzw. Kann man sie kontaktieren ?

    Hello. I have a question. I have the same watch as the one shown in the video above. If you don’t mind, please let me know the size and thickness and height of the glass and gasket you replaced and also the material of the glass gasket. Also, I would appreciate it if you could tell me the size and thickness and height of the gasket on the back

    • @GermanWatchmakingChannel
      @GermanWatchmakingChannel  6 місяців тому

      The back Gasket is just a simple rubber O-Ring Gasket (the official is Omega 088.0607 Overall diameter Ø31.75mm, Thickness Ø1mm) You can also take a generic off brand one).
      The crystal is originally Omega TN5195 Mineral Glass, but I really would recommend a Saphire crystal since it will not scratch with Ø31mm and 2mm Thickness.
      The Crystal Gasket is very special and needs to be original in my opinion (Omega 098EW0006). It is an L Gasket and has the following dimensions: Ø32 T1.1 H3.2. Sadly I have not found a generic one so far to replace it.
      Hope it helps.

      I honestly don't know. There are many possibilities where the problem could be. Water entry resulting in corrosion, coil damage.. But these watches are definitely servicable.

    You should remove the oscillator module before you take the movement out of the case. Else there's a great risk to damage the index wheel if the seconds hand is touched.

    • @GermanWatchmakingChannel
      @GermanWatchmakingChannel  2 місяці тому

      Thank you for that hint. I did not know that. I thought I'm safe since it has the hacking function to stop the seconds hand while removing the hands. I will definitely keep it in mind. I am just an amateur, trying to learn :)

      Is removing the battery sufficient?

    • @ketiljo
      @ketiljo 2 місяці тому

      No, the oscillator module has be completely removed. If the seconds hand is moved backwards with the oscillator module in place, the teeth of the index wheel will be stripped
