I’m loving this series. Always worth taking care of old cars..car payments are normalised nowadays but it’s always best to look after what you have. Better for the environment too!
@@BarnClubCarsI have one for my Mondeo. It's great, but you need the engine oil to be hot otherwise it takes ages. I'd recommend finding an electric one as the manual fluid pumps require constant pumping to keep the vacuum.
@chrishart8548 the 2.2 wasn't replaced by the Euro 5 2.0 what you have, but the 2.2 did get a power bump from 175, to 200 Bhp. I have the previous 2.0 engine to you and it's been great, only needing a starter motor and intercooler to inlet pipe in it's 234,000 miles of life.
I drove one of this age briefly and it was competent but I found it too big and difficult to reverse. More than the XJS I was driving at the time. But in Titanium X estate trim it is defo worth the drive.
I've got one of these. I've had 3 engine malfunctions come up on the dash. I've had the air conditioning topped up the second time and I'm not 100% sure it's working. I had the rear drivers door have no locking or working electric window. And sometimes the battery goes completely flat randomly. If I charge the battery back up it's fine again.
@@chrishart8548 The engine malfun tiom warning is a computer or something like that behind the dash, the problem may get worse as what I'm guesding its a loose connection - if the car doesn't start from it give the top of the dash a couple bangs and itll temporarily fix the problem
In my house, we also lease a 23 plate car for £300 PM. And I have the 08 plate Ford Mondeo mk4 2.2 tdci. Best of both worlds in my opinion. One new warrantied Kia, and one much older diesel estate. I prefer the Mondeo 👍
I've just done some numbers on my 14 year old Volvo. I've spent £5300 on servicing, MOTs, repairs, wheel refurbs, tyres, battery, etc. I'm trying to keep it looking like new. That's about £380 a year. Of course there is fuel, road tax and insurance on top, but you'd pay that on any car. I know plenty of people who pay more than £380 A MONTH on a PCP to drive a car they don't even own. For a low mileage driver like me it makes financial sense to drive a reliable older car.
I've got an 07 plate Fiesta I repair myself, I only do 1 or 2 thousand miles a year, it's just handy to have a runabout, why would I want a car on finance or pay out for anything newer?
I have a Jaguar S Type 2.7 for my 2000 miles a year. Comfortable, quiet and reliable. Serviced yearly including oil change. Mind, I could buy one of the new FaGuars!! 😂
£30 for an Mot? Bloody hell, that's cheap! Nice series, I've always run second hand cars. If in their death they've cost me less then £20 a week in purchase repayments, reckon I've come out on top. That oil off ebay was cheap as well, but I'm a bit wary of buying oil from there. Was a big scam from Eastern Europe going on with oil few years back, cheap oil rebadged iirc. Subscribed 👍
Loved my old mk4 mondeo 2.0 tdci.. Had to change to a ulez compliant 2016 mk5 2.0 tdci 4 years ago. Bought at 100k, Cars currently on 182k miles.....its had a radiator and thermostat housing at 175k, and a clutch master cylinder at 126k, gets serviced every 7-8k miles, and has needed nothing else apart from tyres and one set of brake discs and pads
Done well getting the car so cheap but bangernomics at its best, there's no way I would be paying 300 a month to rent a car or even on hp. I have bought and run cheap cars for the last 20 years, it can be done.
Honestly I really like that car imo it looks great really enjoyed the video looking forward to seeing how things work out with this car , I'm pretty sure it's a winner
Love my 2011 Mondeo 2.0l diesel. 157k miles and 10 years of ownership. Done all repairs and servicing myself with the exception of the timing belt and more recently the rear trailing arm bushes. Best car ive ever had. Big, comfortable, reliable and 50mpg. What more could anyone need?
I've got the same a 2011 Mk4 Mondeo and the only fault I have is knocking at the rear when going low speeds. I've changed the rear springs, drop links, shock absorber, top mounts, trailing arm bushes, anti rollbar bushes and cross link arms. Any ideas?
How many viewers are now searching the online classifieds for a Mondeo 😅. Here in Australia, they seem to have a bad reputation due to the transmission. Any thoughts?
I heard they were only offered in Australia with the powershift automatic gearbox and sadly they are prone to failure if not serviced every 30,000 miles / approx 50,000 km. The manuals are fine, as are the earlier automatics which are not powershift.
@jayisk82 the pre face-lift 2.0 TDCi with the euro 4 engines if I'm not mistaken. Also, i believe the powershift models also say powershift on the gear selector.
If you change the drive shaft I would definitely keep your old one & change the boot & keep as a spare Glad to see the old girl passed Never in doubt....
@nickatkins900 probably over £300 for this car and £20 for a newer car. The insurance is probably OK but on an older 90's car with no ABS it can be expensive. I had a escort 59hp group 9 insurance then got a 90hp focus that was group 4
I think spark plugs are 100k. Brake fluid can be tested for how much moisture is present. I guess an air filter is required depending on miles done and maybe the environment.

9:06 I’m glad I got an oil suction pump, makes the oil changes so much cleaner / simpler
I never knew these were a thing! Safe to say there’ll be one arriving at the barn soon 👍🏻

It looks to be the 2.2 hdi Peugeot/ford engine shared with the Citroen c5, pug 407, mondo… regular oil and filter changes and it will out live you…
It's a bit heavy on fuel and roadtax I've got the later 2 litre hdi/psa 163hp that replaced it.

Those Mondeos were great cars. Very comfortable and looked the business.
For a 16 year old car it is more than capable today.

Great result, long live the Mondeo 🎉 😁👌

@stewartshackleton7825 I wouldn't like to tax or insure it!
Spray some Lanoguard over those springs, it will protect them, stop the rusting and the MOT man will be happy next year.

Great video, looking forward to the next one
Bangernomics at its finest. You were lucky to find such a good car at that price. Previous owner lost out big time there
His brother. :) Still, i got my first car for £200 off a neighbour as that's all they were offered for it on a part ex. So deals can be had.

Sounds like mine I have an estate titanium-X powershift 163ps 2011
Led headlight bulb upgrade for the winter next?

The subframe bolts actually hide bushes beneath them so I'd check them out. Other than that, is there anything in the spare wheel well?
My sort of car!
I wouldn't bother I would keep the 300quid a month and carry on smiling 😂

The whole drive shaft assembly is reasonably priced. It's barely worth buying the boot never mind the hassle of fitting it.
How about tax and insurance??
What about them? You are paying tax on any car, same with insurance. Or fuel.
Interesting to see comparisons Re new and old car

An oil and filter change is not an annual service. Find the service checklist and work through it!
Depends if you want you turbo to live…..

@chrishart8548 good luck with spark plugs on this engine. 😊
