This theory reminds me of 'Lord of the flies' where the boys stranded on the island begin to believe that there is a beast on the island, and the more they believe it the more real it seems to become until most of the boys worship the beast as some sort of God.

I think if the Family Friend is a representation of Jackson's mom, which I'm starting to believe more and more, my guess first guess would be that she died from cancer, not from a car crash. Notice the character design of the Family Friend.
    1. Bald, with wispy strands of hair (particularly noticable in file x3, the last vid in the timeline). Reminds me of my grandma's hair after her chemo treatments.
    2. Wears bedsheets, in a matter oddly reminiscent of a hospital gown.
    3. A lack of bodily harm or trauma. If she has died in a car accident, shouldn't the design be more malformed and suggestive of such a violent fate, instead of so structurally normal?
    4. Pink/red skin. Reminiscent of disfigurements caused by skin cancer.
My personal theory is that Jackson's mom died slowly over time due to terminal skin cancer. I think if she had died more suddenly, Jackson would be displaying far more symptoms of denial, rather than depression or misunderstanding as he seems to do in the piece. To me, Jackson seems far more somber than denialist, as if he had to watch his mom in pain, potentially even pass away, yet not being old enough to fully grasp the concept. Given who Tom is as a person, I have little faith in his ability to shield Jackson from these painful truths, and in fact, Tom's lack of maturity could have led him down a path of repression, leading into his obsession with Boomy, his willingness to dive straight into a new marriage (Tom and Anne Anne haven't even known each other for 4 or 5 years, as evidenced by one of the audio logs, so this was a recent death at the start of the timeline), and his desire to emulate his son and return to s "simpler age".

I know I'm a bit late to this party, I did watch it when it first aired an a few times after that but never thought there was any more to it. I think the main "point" of the project is kinda right there in the title, and can be inferred from a casual watching of the principle video. This house has people in it, but it's not a home. Perhaps that was the ultimate, objective conclusion AB came to at the end of their experiment. Their experiment was a somewhat simple one- manifest these people's repressions and baggage and unremarked problems in physical form, a way they couldn't hide or ignore, and observe their reactions.
In some ways I think Lynks is important to understand the piece, but is ultimately a bit of a red herring. It's crucial to understanding the anti-psuedoscience message, that is certain. But I think more importantly, Lynks represents our impulse to blame all our internal problems on outside forces. This works for both the subjects and audience. The family is led to believe that Lynks is the cause of all their issues, and the audience is led to believe Lynks also plays an important role when in reality it is only a symptom of the problem. The "Family Friend" is not Lynks, Lynks is Lynks. Because they believe they have Lynks, it manifests in their home. Just like Boomy or the Family Friend, it exists because it preoccupies their minds and they are not dealing with it in any healthy way.
In some ways, the central figure is Jackson. The Family Friend is the phantom of his mother, she lives primarily in Jackson's room, underneath his mattress, which is why he has no bed sheets. In the principle video we see him take off his mattress as if to free her, or confront her as everything unravels. The memory of his dead wife haunts them while they're in bed, and always seems to be somewhere in the room with them. Jackson has nothing to even come close to replacing his mother, his father is neurotic and as grief-stricken as he is, his new stepmom understandably doesn't want to try to replace her, and Madison is a teenager who wouldn't be able to deal with that even if she wanted to, but even more she probably resents the intrusion into her life.
Then we come to the Bithday Party. Without knowing anything about Lynks or Boomy or the Family Friend, my original takeaway from the video was that everything that was happening was some kind of metaphor for a family finally collapsing, and of course a new baby and new house would contribute to him being even more forlorn and neglected. Under normal conditions, a teenager very well might act out in some way- but in this case this need manifests in her phasing through the floor. The family's problems are literally dragging them down. Whatever facade of a family collapses- but because of the reality distortion, it is catastrophic, taking the entire party down. The experiment reaches its conclusion.
One aspect not often talked about with these things are the two men. We can see the two men in the principle video, and when they beat up the repair man. I think they are part of AB and they beat up the repairman for perhaps the most simple reason: to see if the reality distortion was working. They knew they were in the living room and they knew the repairman was right outside. Beat the shit out of him and see if they notice. What were they doing in the principle video? My theory is dark but makes sense: they were going after the baby before she could get too far. This speaks to AB's motivations, the house with people in it is an experiment and in experiments you poke and prod and look for reactions. You can't let one of the test subjects leave before the experiment is over, though. The idea that Lynks is something that medical professionals know about and a significant number of people think they honestly have (to the point where clay pizzas are available for purchase) suggests that this is far from the only house that AB is conducting this experiment on.

Really interesting. I think the part where you said, "it exists because it preoccupies their minds and they are not dealing with it in any healthy way" can also be backed up by how at the beginning of the video, they're talking about taking a vacation. This reminds me of how Americans tend to deal with problems, instead of processing our problems systematically and finding rational solutions, we seek escape as an "easier" way to cope. After listening to this analysis, it seems like THHPII is saying that delusion (like cult beliefs) is a means to deal with problems, but also how Americans specifically use escapism to deal with problems...zoning out in front of television, giving yourself to fantasy, going on vacation, believing ideologies that are paper-thin and irrational but self-serving, obsessing over imaginary characters and literally acting/dressing up like them (not to be biased, but anime and cosplay comes to mind although I know Boomy was supposed to be Sonic), etc. It's painful to deal with issues, but repressed negative feelings will always manifest in other ways like suicide, depression, possibly homicide, anxiety, etc. This is the connection I see to Unedited Footage of a Bear...Donna didn't deal with her problems, so she repressed them and then dealt with the depression of having children as a single mom by getting high on Clairadryl (sp?). In this case, instead of Clairadryl the family is using delusion and escapism (especially Tom) instead of dealing with their issues.

My head wasn't hurting today, so I ended up watching the video regardless of the flashes.
I'm not sure I agree with everyone's conclusion that Lynk's is imaginary or faith-based based on its nonsensical symptoms and diagnosis. I don't think we have enough evidence to point towards the tests Anne's doctor runs being imaginary or faked to calm her, so in-universe, I would lean towards treating them as actual diagnosis tests. Also, if Lynk's was diagnosed through a sufferer's belief in their sickness, I would expect the AB logs to document it as such, rather than stating that Madison "was diagnosed" with Lynk's.
I think that since THHPII's universe treats Lynk's as an actual, diagnosable disease--the universe, not just the people in the house and Resnick on TV--we should treat it as such as well. Anne clearly is worried that she or others may have Lynk's, yet she is told that her samples are negative, so it cannot be based on one's belief that they have Lynk's alone.
So far I don't see any reason for the absurd nature of Lynk's beyond THHPII's brand of humor. Sometimes, jokes is jokes. (Although there may be reasons! But I think it ignores the evidence we are given to say that the reasons are to show that Lynk's is fake.)
Also, as with Jonestown--I would refer to it as a massacre, not a mass suicide. Most of the people were forced to drink, and even those who did it "willingly" did it with the knowledge that not complying would mean being shot by the armed guards surrounding the plaza. Children who drank did not know what they were doing. Infants were injected, rather than compelled to drink. People who were not willing were held down. While the cult following of Jim Jones leading up to the massacre could be given as a case of religion gone wrong, by the point of the massacre, those who had followed him thus far had no choice. (One woman hid when the community was called and survived. I've actually been trying to get ahold of her book, The Onliest Onliest Alive, but I can't find it for a reasonable price. :( )
And regardless of my opinion of your analysis, that final comparison of Jonestown victims to the partygoers on the lawn was disturbing as hell, wow. (In a good way!)

Now do Unedited Footage of a Bear? One piece that I've not seen mentioned yet is that the raging, handcuffed man in front of the house is not only lying on the driveway, dead under a tarp (that part has been mentioned by everyone), but appears to not be seen by anyone...except Donna. The two detectives aren't interacting with him - they aren't even noticing him. And what police officer would keep a psychotic killer out in the open with nothing but handcuffs? At the very least, he'd be in the back of a patrol car. He's handcuffed for the same reason the construction worker is running away; the host is dead, the work is over. Claridryl has done its job, and left everyone, even the 'other selves' with no life, no hope, no safe harbour.

had no idea job's cancer was actually treatable. reminds me of my grandmother who also put a great deal of faith in alternative medicines and had a huge distrust of doctors. eventually this was what caused her passing unfortunately. she had been having strong headaches for over two weeks and refused to go to the doctor instead opting for acupuncture. turns out it was a blood clot in her brain. after about two weeks it burst, she collapsed into a coma immediately and eventually passed away in the hospital a few hours later.

The father likely took it from jacksons room when he was dressing like boomey and put it back in the frame with the R in front.
It should also be noted that several of the videos are from what should be the future(THHPII was made in 2016)The last chronological video is from 2017 and the last words uttered in the series is tom saying "it's lost to time" when talking about a band he was in.I think time distortion plays a big role in the series.

Interestingly the difference always begins as soon as people fill in the blanks by incorporating their own bias into the analysis. I feel like that was the intention at the end of the day.
After acquainting myself with Alan Resnick's body of work, he never seems to bother with religion. Rather, the common theme in his work seems anti-humanistic. My opinion is that THHPII is about society's hidden tendencies of mass hysteria, paranoia and perceived control. a "we are our own worst enemy" type of thing. Presented as an interactive experiment that provokes us to expose that from within ourselves not as simply the audience, but as voyeur investigators that are forced to fill in blanks.

    • @NightmareMasterclass
      @NightmareMasterclass  7 років тому +20

shenzishenzi Yeah. I see where you're coming from. I don't think THHPII is a direct correlate for atheism or some kind of anti religious parable, or anything like that. It's not that straightforward. But I did want to connect Dawkin's notion of a meme, as well as his general thesis that religion acts as something of a mind virus, to this "Lynks Disease" that pervades the world of THHPII. And I do think Resnick and Wham City explore religious ideas in a critical way to some degree. Check out their latest work, The Mirror. It's about a new agey cult.

Do you THHPII could be a critique of society's constructs (Traditional American ideologies, cultish beliefs, entertainment "saving" us from dealing with life, propoganda.) manipulating and blinding us from effectively dealing our problems and thinking critically about the world?

I mean...the problem with all the criticism of organized religion (funny how it's almost always focused on Christianity) is that it subjectively interprets religious doctrine and attempts to expose its flaws objectively. When those 4 Horeseman talk about what they think we believe about God as if they were universally accepted beliefs within Christianity, I lose all respect for their arguments. I think opposition to theism and religion demands faith from its tenants similar to how believers have faith in their doctrine. That being said, I'm glad you went into THHPII's criticism of rigid patriotism (that flag song was priceless) and how it's seemingly linked to the spread of disinformation and fear of nonexistent threats (think post-9/11 America and the subsequent hysteria about "fake news" on the web).

Mason Smith Hey, I appreciate your feedback, and I don't have the energy to get into a debate about religion right now. But I acknowledge that you feel I singled Christianity out. The reason for this is that I come from a Christian background and felt far more comfortable highlighting criticism of various Christian doctrines. But rest assured, there are plenty of militant atheists out there who go after other religions. I think some of this criticism is unproductive at times, but nonetheless agree with many of the arguments. Thanks again for your feedback. I do think it's important to hear different perspectives.

Fair enough; that all makes sense. I definitely accept that there's a lot of commentary on post-2001 American culture here, but I can't shake the potential paranormal/supernatural aspects of the main video. Mainly, the fact that Boom is seen running around ominously outside while the dad is accounted for in the kitchen, the two men walking out from behind the trees seemingly mimicking each other's movements, and the bizarre deformed version of the girl seen for only a few frames.

  • @packman2321

While this is somewhat off topic I thought I'd leave these comments here as I don't really see people bringing this up and I spot a little misinformation (or at least sensationalism) in the comments already.
As someone who's studied both medicine and world religions, with an interest in NRM and how people construct positions, I found the religious parallels you drew in this one quite interesting, and especially the use of the term objective.
While I think you arrive at broadly the same conclusion visa vis objectivity I'd point out that it's often incredibly difficult to study another group 'objectively' given the sheer amount of assumptions baked in to all the categories we use. For example there's a fair amount of politics surrounding the treatment of alternative medicines around the world (though we're better with that than we once were)… Overall I think you're probably correct though to argue that having an opinion based on evidence is the correct approach. With regards to Jonestown though I must admit I don't feel people give credit to this event. People tend to write off the people who died as a result as deluded victims of Jones, or worse to try and imply that he somehow bewitched them (this may come off as extreme but it's actually the tone a lot of media coverage at the time had). I tend to feel that this diminishes the autonomy of the people who were part of Jim Jones' group and (to borrow a claim from J. Z. Smith) it abdicates our ability to actually understand them, or learn from what happened. While the people of Jonestown do represent an extreme position and their actions were of course incredibly tragic, there is a through line that can be studied. Essentially Jonestown's stood on a radically anti-racism position which caused them to become increasing paranoid about the US government. Whether Jim Jones actually held these beliefs himself, or simply manipulated the racism of the times to promise an escape to people is debatable. What isn't is that the mass suicide was a fascinating example of a political action (they left their assets to the USSR for goodness sake) and dismissing it simply as irrational, without actually examining it first loses us an opportunity to talk both about the faults in our system that lead some people to believe in vast conspiracies against them, and to familiarize ourselves with the sort of rhetoric that cause people to fall for extremists like Jim Jones so we can guard against them.Honestly I find the subject fascinating and I'd really recommend looking into it. J.Z. Smith's 'The Devil in Mr Jones' from his Imagining Religions makes a good attempt at treating the subject with care and nuance and James Lewis' 'Legitimating New Religions' looks more generally at the use of categories like 'irrational' and 'cult' to privilege the status quo and delegitimize marginalized opinions (he eventually argues that 'cult' simply means 'religion my children subscribe to that I do not like')… More generally something like McCutcheon's Insider/Outsider collection contains some essays that look at the various standards for rationality through different cultures and Calhoun's Rethinking Secularism does a similar job (then of course there's always Said's Orientalism)To make a far too long story somewhat shorter (and I apologize that I've jumped around a bit here) there are things that can be learnt from Jonestown and one of them is that it's dangerous to subscribe to positions uncritically. But I think if that's all people walk away with they do a disservice to the people who died. Because those people aren't robots, they're people, who made a choice that seems insane and if we can learn why, we can at least make that count for something.Overall though a great video that was good to come back to again. Oh and if anyone actually gets down here thank you so much for the time, I hope this doesn't come off too much like I'm attempting to make light of Jonestown.

Developing idea of the viewer getting lynks made me think that maybe this whole project is in a way based on the concept of a "logical dead end" If it makes any sense. I tried to ignore things like the plot the characters etc and take a more formalistic approach to analyzing this piece.
There are a lot of typos in every part of the piece (scultor, the lynks articles). We know that the sculptor guy is the one responsible for the lynks articles and the website we also know he makes a lot of spelling mistakes. That kind of leads me to a conclusion that the sculptor is just spelling the name of the disease wrong. We know that the sculptor (to whose video ill get back later) is played by alan resnick the creator of the project, the person (apart from all of the other stuff) responsible for the set. And there is a problem with the set- the word birthday is missing the letter R. He also emphasized that detail in the comments. No offense but i think trying to come up with a word that begins with that letter is kind of really overthinking it. There are many r-words in the english language that you could somehow conceptually connect to the piece (reason, random, rigid, run, etc) which makes it highly unlikely that a viewer would come up with the word that the creator intended.
In one of the interviews one of the creators (sorry i don't remember which one) was talking about how all of the people working on the project put in their own details that other members sometimes aren't even aware of. A weird behavior for people working on a highly detail oriented piece such as THHPII. What's also strange is that they don't keep it in secret. To me it highly devalues any detail that the piece contains. I'll also get back to that.
Let's get back to the name of the disease spelled wrong. It's obvious that LYNKS sounds like LINKS. As we already know there is a specific person that created this universe of THHPII, the artist. We supposedly know that Alan is a human and is a part of the human society, the english speaking human society. So he is probably aware of the LINKS that exists in the english language which means that the name of the disease is not coincidence. This brings me to the thought that the artist wanted us to draw a link (haha im so funny) between LYNKS and LINKS.
We know for sure that there is no registered illness called lynks. Getting back to the website with info about lynks. The symptoms, causes and everything about the disease described theres sound absurd to us. It sounds like some LINKING absolutely unrelated things to contribute to his theory. The theory that he has an illness. I think you kind of get my idea at this point but i'll continue.
What about the video that is supposed to be the main focus of the whole project? Well... it makes no sense. It's a collection of absurd and unrelated random events.
Nobody (except for pretentious arts majors) would be satisfied with a film that consists of unrelated actions and carries no meaning whatsoever. The people start digging into the materials that they have. They find out that there is an actual ab ss website than they find the next thing and the next thing. They look for a key that will enable them to solve the "puzzle", but what is actually happening is that they dig a deeper hole under their feet by getting more and more confusing information. At first you were trying to make sense out of 11 minutes of footage, but now you are dealing with at least 2 hours of videos, someone's emails, articles, voice messages, webpages etc. It's practically impossible to come up with an organized theory that wouldn't neglect at least 70% of the materials. Some people try to "investigate" it on their own, some take on the opinions of more intelligent people like you or nigh mind who have thoroughly analyzed the whole thing. But doesn't it remind you of the LINKS disease and making connections between obviously unrelated things to support a major theory? The viewers basically get infected after being exposed to THHPII. People start to analyze every small detail of the set and the plot that the creators publicly confessed to have random and unnecessary parts that even they aren't aware of. LINKS disease consumes your life by making you spend at least tow and a half hours of your life watching and even more analyzing THHPII only to find out that the interpretation is left to your perception.
Now that i've established the theme I'm investigating (yeah this is quiet ironic) i can talk about the scultor video. To my mind it kind of implies its importance for understanding THHPII by featuring the main creator as an actor. You should never forget that Alan is also a comedian and there has to be comedy in what he does. This video made me think that it's a parody, a parody on people who would try to create theories about his work. The clay that the sculptor is working with doesn't really exist, he uses random materials that don't go together all that well, he feels safe and not as suicidally depressed while working with clay, there are many other phrases and actions there so i won't list all of them (if you watch it pay attention to when he is looking directly into the camera). The video also explores the LINKS disease theme. First of all by having a hashtag #linksdisease thats spelled with an I. Also he gives links to webpages that do not exist, references parts of the video itself that do not exist.
This whole project from that perspective looks like satire. It's making fun of the viewers that obsessively try to make sense out of it, but facing the above mentioned "logical dead end" every time. This dead end is the fact that none of the information given has any significance to the story of THHPII, because it's either there by accident or there to mess with you. Also we face our limitations of the perception of art. The only true meaning that a work of art could have is the meaning that the author has put into it. The problem is that we can't be 100 percent sure that we are right in our suggestions unless the artist reveals the initial intention.
The piece puts the viewer into a "personal prison" or it's better to say that the viewer does it by focusing to much on the wrong things. THHPII doesn't try to hide that it's a work of art which encourages to go out of the boundries of the work. It has many clues that the world of THHPII is rooted in the real world (obvious sonic refferances, jazz comparison, etc). So it implies that to "understand" the work you have to search for answers outside of it. This is where this project turns into a big "fuck you" to everyone watching. You understand that to "get the message" of the work you need to neglect the work. Trying to dig into it is only misleading you. It's just a house that has people in it. Like most of the houses in real life. It's counterintuitive but this absurd sequence of events is a lot like real life. It's happening because it's happening. And to my mind this is how it's related to the ideas of atheism: like in our world in the world of THHPII there is no ultimate equation or theory that could explain everything that happens. It's another logical dead end. As David Lynch said "I don't know why people expect art to make sense when they accept the fact that life doesn't make sense."
(sorry for neglecting grammar punctuation structure etc. it was supposed to be a one sentence comment)

Pavil Frumkin Thanks for your thoughts! I think a lot of what you are saying is valid, especially pertaining to the viewer getting "Lynks" in the process of going down the rabbit hole.
What I take exception to in your remarks (and this might be a bit of a tangential point) is that the artist's stated intentions constitute the "true" meaning of the work. If you are really looking at this from a formal perspective, which is what you initially stated, you'd disregard anything the creators have said in various interviews and focus on the work itself. And while it is interesting to hear what they have to say, their comments may not be helpful in understanding the work itself. That applies to this situation just as much as it does any other artistic work. What really matters, in my opinion, is the effect the work has on the viewer. This can get tricky and perhaps I haven't fully fleshed out what my position is here, but I really do not think you can rely on the creator's stated intentions.
But other than that, I generally agree with a lot of what you're saying. Thanks again for the thoughtful comment!

First of all, let me thank you for compiling the theories and your own observations on this certainly interesting topic. As someone who up until now had no exposure to this kind of projects, I want to note some things.
Some things you say appear too farfetched for my sense (especially the whole "men are dogs" thing also "r stands for repression"). But what I find pretty plausible is that lynx disease is somehow a representation of familiar disharmony and alienation (similar device as in Kafka's Metamorphosis). It would explain some details, for example why Anne says that "it spreads in the family like fire" or also on the Sculpture's webpage it saying that sex is a possibility as sex plays a major role in sustaining healthy (family) relations. I can't remember too clearly but I think the sculptor contracted it in ways of sex with his Ex or at least it had something to do with their relationship. Also warning his Ex to be careful of other partners that could make you contract lynks as well means that the potential for an unhealthy relationship exists with virtually everyone. I don't want to jump into conclusions but the name "lynks" might refer to the links between family members/partners.
This would also explain the focus on "perception" and "observation" as paying attention to your family members is the alpha and omega of a sustaining, reciprocal relationship.
Also, I want to point out that I feel the theories are a bit cherry picking (among the vast amount of material) and go to great lengths to explain some details without giving too much thought to the basic, underlying motivation/idea behind the movie. As in the "horse apple" thing from your other video, I found the analysis way to detailed considering that a lot of the most fundamental questions about the series are still way to open to be able to deduce specific imagery like that.
Regarding the methodology, maybe one should begin with some plausible "lenses" to look at the whole story with, including sets of presumptions for the most basic problems of the project (1. Why are the characters being recorded; 2. Why are they referred to as "subjects"; 3. Assuming lynks was a real disease, what properties does it have; 4. What is it with the constant spelling errors (the missing R seems to be a major key), etc.) and then "test" them for plausibility against 1. the hard facts (concrete video material, etc) 2. Generally agreed upon notions and interpretation 3. Comparisons to existing works, etc. See if any respective set of explatnations for said problems sustains your scrutiny and then -from that premise- begin turning your "winner-lense" to the smaller details. The above-mentioned problems are all things that connect to many of the lengthily discussed details as well. So if you want to understand why the Sculptor's looking at a horse and an apple, first try to figure out why it is, for example, that a) he's held captive (striped shirt=prison?) b) why the Grandmother is so fixated on the show c) Why does he have rashes around his eyes d) Why is AB solutions also the publisher of the show. If you can plausibly answer all of those above, then you can take a guess on details such as why he's looking at an apple or why there are dog figures.

Theory: It's not about perception but about the reception of information. How we analyse the information given to either create or follow a narrative.
The fact that 99% of the plot occurs outside of the short, and as viewers we must connect the pieces in order to establish point A all the way to point Z. Therefore it's how we shape the information given what determines what the course of the narrative becomes.
For all intents and purposes we're seeing only one source of information, with no external resource outside of the AB website the way they want us to see it. And the way we received the information necessary to carry out an analysis is not subject to external sources, which means that it cannot be verified and by extension compared to other similar situations.

A simple fix such as having kids learn early about developing good critical thinking skills and then requiring that these skills get continually built upon (i.e., creating a proper foundation) year after year all the way through high school and college seems a no brainer. And yet, we as a society, choose NOT to make that a core priority. Why? How can that be? Perhaps there is a major headwind that keeps that from happening? And there of course, most certainly is. The resultant fallout is toxic on many levels from not being able to cogently understand how one thing truly effects another or the difference between cause and correlation (hence drawing spurious Lynx) to susceptibility towards cults and tribalism. And even when presented with clear evidence of the harmful effects of such untethered thinking (e.g., whatstheharm.net), people refuse to learn (or, more appropriately, lack the skills necessary to do anything with relevant information). Instead, we end up with a foundation that's geared for madness. The good news...that's absolutely super great for businesses of all kinds from pharoahs to pharmaceuticals to predator drones. Salute!

+kiddrizzl3 I hate when people tell me they've been mysteriously unsubbed from my channel. You are not the first to tell me that. Something tells me there's some youtube fuckery going on.
Anyway, thank you for your kind words. I appreciate the support.

Personally i don't The Family Friend is draped in bed sheets, rather, faded curtains. Anne, in one of the audio logs, noticed that the curtains in the upstairs room were faded.

I feel like the sculpture looks like a scene of death. Perhaps it is a symbol of how humanity kills itself by making themselves prisoners of some bad desires. that is what I feel.

Late to the party on this but really enjoyed your analysis. I thought the meme stuff was spot on, also worth mentioning that the girls position on the floor resembled planking.

The problem with stuff like "This House Has People in It" is that the people who need to hear the message of open-mindedness, learning, the scientific method, intellectual exploration, etc. are the very people whose ideologies prevent them from considering any of that valuable. The American Way of EZ Guns EZ Shoot Indians Life EZ Ever After had their belief system profoundly validated, only slightly marred with the "Allahu Akbar!" downfall of two key symbols of the American Way on 9/11/2001.
The victors not only write the history books - that's a side effect. What they really do is write their own minds in the image of their victories. Conquest is not just of the physical victims - it's of the very minds (and souls, for those willing to go there) of the supposed conquerors - the victory colonizes their own self-identity.
Some express bewilderment at the 300 million registered guns in the US, not recognizing the profound gratitude that a society founded on guns has toward them. While it's not as common anymore, there was a time when guns were mounted at key locations in American homes, acting as objects to be worshiped.
When a crime not only pays but one's entire existence is based on that payment, it can't possibly be a crime. Life cannot be imagined without it. The mind becomes warped - reality itself becomes warped to account for the new reality. The warping cannot be recognized as such, and a new psychological reality comes into being.

The Sculptor talks about prison alot and how he was in prison in the Sculptor's Clayground. He also talks about how he has Lynks disease. Am I the only one who's mind went to a horrible place when they put those two observations together?

The thought becomes even worse when one of the ways to catch Lynks as stated on the Sculptor's website is through sex.

That "trash" is one of the most balanced things you could eat. It has everything you need. If you had to live off a single food, hot dogs would sustain you with no issues. One man's trash is another man's treasure.
