we had a beautiful baby boy less than a week ago and we were so excited to take him home and everything was going so well and then we had some issues arise and life flight ended up taking our baby. Things get pretty emotional in this video, it was hard to experience and harder to edit...

I know this is old news but for what ever reason it b brought me to tears in the first 2 minutes> I am so happy that I know now (in Jan.2022) that everything is OK. There is a class action lawsuit for baby formula with fortifier that causes that condition in preemies.
To bad her doctor was unaware of the risk of that formula.

For whatever it’s worth to document this, I can’t help but think it would reduce the stress if they put the camera down and just comfort each other.

My niece was a premie (5 weeks early) and had necrotizing enterocolitis. She did great and healed fine. My prayers are with you all.

I was born 13.5 weeks premmy in 1983, i'm now 38 and thriving. I know it's terrifying, but please take my life as a sign, everything will be ok. Leo will be ok, he will grow into a happy, healthy and thriving beautiful man. And remember love heals tremendous things, so hug him, love on him and dote on him, he will trive because of it.
I read a quote soon after my daughter was born. It basically said when you have a child your heart begins living outside your body.
My first baby was admitted for severe complications related to prematurity (from pre-eclampsia). One of the best things the NICU told me was that “this feels like a lot right now, and it is…but you will look back at this as a very small part of your child’s story”. My “baby” turns 15 years old next month. And that nurse was 100% right. You guys will get through this. ❤️
My youngest daughter was a premie due to pre-eclampsia, she just turned 28 yesterday! She's still a tiny thing but has thrived!

I am saying a prayer for you all. I know what you are going through. My son had necrosis of a portion of his small intestine and had to have surgery on day two of his life. He was transported by lifeflight from Corvallis, OR to Providence Hospital’s NICU in Portland, OR. The entire staff and Surgeons were blessed by God and the best people I have ever met in my life. Kyle is now 27 years old and living a good life. 🙏
Couldn’t transport our son in helicopter because of severe storm. The air force willingly did the transport for us through the storm. So very caring and brave. He was able to have his open heart surgery the day after he was born. He developed a staph infection and spent 5 1/2 months in NICU. The care and love was phenomenal. Without the air force we wouldn’t have our son. Without the doctors, the same. And the NICU nurses. We thank each and every one of you. They survive and turn into wonderful people. Supposed to be not normal….teaches physics, has a PhD in physics, and a wonderful wife and daughter!
He might be sleepy and not as aware but he knows he's being held by his mama. Your smell, your heartbeat, your voice, it's all home to him. I cried many tears for you during this video, sending you strength. In the long and happy life you will have with your baby this is but a tiny (albeit painful) blip.

One of my grandsons had the same thing . He spent some time at St. Judes Hospital in Arkansas. It takes a little while to get better, but he did! He is now in 10th grade and is 6'5" tall! Have faith and pray 🙏

Primary Children's is one of the Best! Our son spent his first 2 weeks of life in their NICU. He is now 31 yrs. strong! I have so much empathy for your love for Leo and your fears. I believe he is going to be strong and healthy and he has the greatest of parents!

I was an EMS pilot for many years and have flown hundreds of flights for our two children’s transport teams. I guarantee you that those teams and the children’s hospitals are absolutely awesome. Leo is in good hands.
Trent and Allie, as someone who HAS walked in your shoes I cried and laughed though the video. Twenty six and a half years ago, my precious oldest son, Nathan had the same diagnosis. Our journey was rockier and lasted longer than 4 years. Children’s hospital in Denver saved his life and now he is a strong young man who is loving and kind to everyone especially his younger brothers. All the emotions of that time hit me like a Mac truck as I watched little Leo being loaded into Life flight. Know that he IS in the best place possible. Like you said, they caught it early! I had to argue and fight for anyone to listen to me for a whole month while Nathan struggled to survive before he got bad enough for the doctors to do anything! Love each other and be there for Leo, everything WILL be okay! ❤️ Like Leo, Nathan was my first so I could concentrate on him and not have to split my time with other children at home. God bless you and your family. You will never be the same but that is a good thing. 😇
I had NEC as a new born and was treated at Children’s hospital in DC. They saved my life. When each of my kids were born it was one of my greatest fears that they would have it as well. It made me appreciate and relate to my parents on an entirely different level. Your video is window to what my parents experienced on that day and I’m grateful that you shared it with the world. My son had it 1983 no help has problems. It great they caught that. Lay him on you bear stomach don't know why but my son is part of family history of stomach problems.

As a pediatric nurse and lactation consultant, and a mama, i cried for you through this entire video from that opening scene. I expect all is well by now but I"m SO sorry you had to go through all of this! You are so brave and strong and I cannot imagine making it all so public. That takes real courage.
29:50 this blows my mind. When my baby was in the hospital I could barely go to the bathroom bc I didn’t want to leave her side. I can’t imagine being hours away. I know you have things you NEED to do and I know that the nursed and doctors are capable. …but my mama heart couldn’t have handles being away from my baby like that.

Leo is blessed with steady, loving parents. I know we don’t see all the anguish, but the way you two pull yourselves together again to talk to us, work on the house, or get Allie’s mother down the mountain is testament to your courage and stability. We can see that Leo is in good hands with his medical team AND with his terrific family.

I just saw a public service video on TV. It mentioned the syndrome little Leo had. It was warning parents to be aware of this if you you had a low weight or preemie baby. Just getting the word out. Praying for your family. Give Leo a kiss for me.

37 years ago, I was that baby. Technology in Healthcare has come leaps and bounds yet even then to now I'm healthy and I truly believe in Leo, on the other hand your emotions in this really hit me feeling for how my parents and loved ones must have felt. On the good everyone is behind you.

I had my daughter at 32 weeks. She was 2 lbs 12 oz and 11 inches. I was discharged a month before her. Leaving the hospital with empty arms was the worst moment of my life and I honestly think I have trauma from it, even 15 years later. All that to say...my ❤ is with you!!!

@@marianl3447 she is fine! I have lupus and developed pre-eclampsia. I was in the hospital on bed rest. I had the steroid shots before she was born to help develop her lungs then she was delivered by emergency c section a few days later after she stopped moving. My placenta was almost completely detached. But once she got up to 4 lbs she got to come home and you would never know to look at her that she came into the world the say she did. She is a competitive swimmer and sings in her high school choir and wants to be a chior teacher. She is strong and healthy. She is my only child and my miracle baby.
This triggered me when I heard those newborn cries. 38 years ago my premature son was flown out with me to a childrens hospital in Phoenix. But 11 days later he came home. He’s perfectly healthy at 38 except for his stubbornness.

I went through the same thing with my daughter. Like you guys I had no sleep. She was a week old and stayed in the hospital for 2 weeks. All she did was cry 24 hours a day. Finally a nurse said if you will not leave her and go home and get some rest then go find a chair somewhere in the hall or waiting room and get you a nap. She was in NiCU for several days I stayed in the waiting room going in every hour. Then we went to a private room that was still in the NICU area. So I did have a bed in there but I couldn’t sleep for all her crying. My heart was so broken for her. Finally the nurse got me a recliner and put it in the hall a little ways from our room and out of the way from people walking by. I could only sleep about an hour at a time and then go back to the room. Even when my mom came to help I could not leave so I slept on the bed in the room while my mom took care of her. It is so hard when you have a sick baby. All 4 of my babies were preemies and had different problems. Especially my twin sons. But today they are healthy adults with their own babies now. So I said all this to say Leo will be ok and will grow into a healthy boy. I hope y’all have a bed in the room where you can at least catnap some! Praying for sweet Leo! It’s so hard not to say Ginger snap. Lol! ❤️🙏🏻🙏🏻
Ya'll, my wife and I have been there. He's now 4, and as abnormal of a normal child as anyone can have. Babies are SUPER resilient. Praying for ya'll!
This video brought back a flood of memories of my own baby 14 years ago. Back then they were not so quick to understand the implications of allergies to protein or even conditions of the digestive system in infants, especially newborns. It took over a week of her in icu and things I can’t even go into without reliving the worst time of my life, for them to finally start to figure out what was going on. A month of hell back then and some major adjustments on feeding and 14 years later my beautiful daughter is healthy and thriving and amazing. I can’t tell you how relieved I was when I saw how incredibly fast they were identifying what was going on with Leo and the great team that you had supporting him (and you!). I’m so happy is home with you now and you’re getting to enjoy every beautiful moment!! So thankful for our amazing technology and medical teams!!!

As both Trent & Allie were holding him & then Leo opened his eyes, looked up, saw who was holding him. He closed his eyes as if to say,
"OH my dad has me, mom is loving me. I'm ok now." I know at 5 days old none of these thoughts are possible but that was what I thought as I watched Leo with mom & dad. God Bless all of you. Keeping you in my prayers.

One day of rest, ok, but after they had a good night's sleep I was heartbroken for that baby that he had to do without the comfort of his parents during such a time. They even said how hard it is to see him suffer. At least take shifts so he is not alone. I just don't understand...

When my first granddaughter was born with a heart defect it was devastating. However, she now climbs trees and is normally up to her ears in mud. Leo will be fine you'll see. It's never easy to see a sick child much less your own. Lean on each other, have faith in whatever that means to you and things will be alright. Hang in there.

I left my little one I the hospital 49 years ago. I still remember how hard those days were..but she needed the excellent care of Doctor's and Nurses.

Flashbacks to when my daughter was born and was Life Flighted to Children's Hospital in Buffalo NY. She's 38 and mom herself.
The teams of Drs that work pediatrics are amazing. Kids like Leo who have a hard start in life are stronger for it.
I wonder if our kids were there at the same time? My daughter was in the NICU at Children's in Buffalo. She is also 38 years old! That's such a great place and I am so thankful for them. My son was also there for a long time when he was four months old for surgery.
@@janemigh2370 my daughter was born on May 5th and was there for 42 days. Then back four months later for an operation. She was full term so looked like a giant compared to the premies
My daughter was born on Feb. 1st and was there for about a month. She did have to go back in May for RSV.

In Trent and Allie fashion, Leo steps up to the plate with “content” you never wanted but leaves us so concerned and supportive of you. What a scary thing to go through as new parents to a preemie. Leo has hit the parent jackpot, though. Allie, you say Trent has been your rock. Well, I agree, but think he could have said the same of you. You represent the way it should be and your partnership will see you through everything. Since these videos are posted after the events, I am going to assume all is better, but keep you in my prayers.
I'm so glad that he's doing better! Him being in "sleepy mode" is a good sign that his body is doing what it needs to heal itself -- diverting all of his energy to the area that needs it most! Sending out prayers that Leo continues to improve in each phase of his recovery and that you have him home in no time! ♥️
That's exactly what I was thinking too--that Leo's body is sending energy where it needs to go.
It means he has no caloric energy. His body is using up its stores. If they didn't have that IV he'd be dead from dehydration.
They posted a Q&A video a couple days ago that is more present-time than this video - and Leo was home safe and sound. :)
@@keriezy he is receiving IV nutrition, not just water. He’s not “using his stores” and obviously any preemie would die from dehydration if left with no fluids for 5 days .
@@valarya I know what you're saying & he is obviously home & seems to be doing well but that doesn't take away from the fact that they still went through this very hard & emotional time very early on in his life. I couldn't even imagine!

As the mother of a child that spent time at primary and they saved her life, IMO you are in the best place you could be. With tears streaming down my face, sending you our love and prayers.

Okay, hearing Allie talk about how much she loves Leo brought tears to my eyes. "How does that happen?" It's called parental love. I once heard Billy Joel in an interview mention being surprised by that sudden unconditional love he felt at the birth of his first child. You are blessed. As a single lady, I never got to experience this, but am a loving aunt--it's just not the same. Thank you for your transparency of your life. Most people would have put the camera down and gone thru this privately.
What an understanding and wonderful comment. Parental love is hard to describe and the most privileged possession .You must be a very loved aunt .
My Mom always told me you will never understand how much a mother loves you until you have a baby yourself. I was like yeah whatever I know you love me & that kinda stuff. Once I had my child it didn't take very long at all to figure it out. You just instantly fall in love, it's crazy!

I was so thrilled when I discovered his name in the “birth video”. There was a shot of Trent in the hospital, just before you all went home and next to Trent was a board on the wall with your names and at “baby info” it said Leo. I thought, when they reveal his name, I’m gonna tell it in the comments. But now this news about sweet little Leo and I’m so sorry for you. Hopefully he’s doing fine now and you’re all back home together. Much love and strength 💙

I just can't imagine. You had me in tears the entire time until Mom reminded me of how we were taught to drive in the snow by doing donuts in empty parking lots :) Mom's a winner.
