    DUCT TAPE is great to put on the bottom of ceramic palettes, to keep them from scratching the desk, other palettes, and stops that awful scraping sound.

      I hate the feeling of the bottom of ceramic palettes! I actually layer a coat or two of school liquid glue on it. It dries super fast and turns clear.

Let’s see… Turner’s Gouache, then DaVinci watercolors, then Kristi Rice brushes and paints and water cup, then the soft pastels, then the Amazon pencils, then the fountain pens(I’m addicted) and please show how to fill them… I already got the set you recommended that have a lot of ink… I love them!!

    I'm looking forward to seeing more about the DaVinici watercolors and the cheap fountain pens. So many options for budget fountain pens, it's overwhelming. I have two budget Shaeffer and one Lamy Safari pen, but switching cartridges is a pain. Having more preloaded colors while sketching without breaking the bank would be great. The Lamy is far better than the Shaeffer, but they cost quite a bit more.

      Check out the Platinum Preppy! It's a super cheap refillable fountain pen. They come with a couple of fairly large cartridges, but you can easily make it an eyedropper pen for fewer cartridge changes. All you would need would be a pipette or eyedropper and a bottle of ink. (For cheap ink, check out Diamine inks. They have a great color range!)

    • @bookishindian
      @bookishindian 7 місяців тому

      what's an eyedropper pen? @@Rebecca_English

    • @Rebecca_English
      @Rebecca_English 7 місяців тому +1

      @@bookishindian a pen that holds the ink in the barrel of the pen (the long part). It requires an eyedropper to fill it. An eyedropper filled pen holds the most ink compared to any other filling mechanism. The nice thing about the Preppy pen is that you can choose to use the cartridge or directly fill the pen with ink. The cartridges are also refillable using a blunt syringe or a pipette.

    Do the Turner Design Gouache! Then Da Vinci, great paints! I was looking for good reviews for the Turner Design Gouache and there was no good ones just some old ones. I want to buy it as an alternative for Shinhan and Holbein since those are very pricey! P.S. I am in Love with the Mijello Hybrid Gouache, I have 2 pallets one dry and one fresh. Only the shine comes through the fresh one otherwise both are highly pigmented! Thanks Maria

    Hi Lindsay! Looking forward to your reviews. I was wondering if you could do a review on the glass dip pens, please? I bought 2 with ink, but I opened the ink up and they had a no leak stopper in them, it didn't leak, but OMG when I pulled that stopper out, I had green ink everywhere (and it took forever to get it off...I'm talking days). 😅😂
    Heck, I'd be happy to see how to take stopper out...just kidding...love a review. So funny..."did you get your dishes washed? So proud of you!" Love your show and you for keeping it real!

    I had one of those shark pens and it leaked every time I opened the cap 😢 hopefully I just had a faulty one. I know this wasn’t in your haul but if you want to use ink but your pens constantly dry up, try a dip pen! Sailor recently released a dip pen with a feed that allows for significantly longer lengths of time between dips and it’s super easy to clean 😁 It’s called the Hocoro. I have them and now I use my inks so much more ❤

    DaVinci Watercolor is my favorite brand. It’s so vibrant and so easy to rewet. I have been a bit disappointed in the DaVinci Gouache though, as I find it sticky and transparent.

    I'm torn between the oil pastels and the Turner Gouache! I just got a bunch of Turner Japanesque Gouache paints. Haven't used them yet. I know tbey're a different line, but will be excited to see how you like the ones you got! The Kristi Rice products have such a beautiful presentation! I hope the quality of the art materials is just as lovely! The silicone brushes will be great with stencils, applying Glimmer, Solar, Lunar, Grit, etc. pastes.

Since that’s the only brand that offers watercolors in 37 ml tubes, I’d love to know your thoughts on what’s the typical shelf life of those big tubes, how do you store them, do they harden faster than the rest (cough… W&N cough) 😂 but definitely everything looks so ❤❤❤

    DaVinci gouache, please, and then the Turner gouache. I bought the Holbein mixing set and I’m pondering buying a few additional colours because I just signed up for your “30 days …” course. I was browsing the DaVinci site earlier today and put many of the colours you have in my cart. I love DaVinci watercolour. It would be great if you review their gouache and watercolours close together so I can get what I “need” all in one order.

    Oh my, you do have a lot on your plate. Once you have a chance to take a breath and destress after the holidays, would like to see the DaVinci watercolors and gouache. I don't have any of their gouache (yet) but I do have a number of their watercolors but I haven't really used them a lot. Not sure why. DaVinci is such a great deal for those of us who live in the states.
    Also intrigued by the vessel stamps. I like that they are larger size. If these don't rank high on the priority list, I might have to give those stamps a try on my own. Ahhh, and there's my Want Monster replying.

    I’m interested in your thoughts on the Turner gouache! On another note, I couldn’t help but think that the Creative craft brushes you got look and feel exactly like makeup/beauty brushes (like how you mentioned with the face mask tool) 🤔 the blending brushes look like a certain kind of foundation brush that was popular a few years ago.
    Rather than spending art supply prices, any one interested could find comparable brushes for a lower price at dollar tree, five below, or any other store with a beauty section. But perhaps this brand found a bristle blend that’s better for paints and inks hmmm 🧐

      I'm fairly certain they are coming from the same factory as the makeup brushes. Stamp companies dont have the buying power to order in bulk and a smaller customer base to sell to so they are pricier. I like the white bristles and color handles, tho!

    Wow! What a lot of goodies! On the disposable pens, I thought I heard you say that you bought the fine point and then afterward the extra fine, so I wanted to make sure which was the recommended one. On the Artisto Multi-media sketchbooks, my computer showed the paper of the larger of the two to have much whiter and brighter paper than the smaller one. I had returned the 72 regular Artisto pencils, because several of their points broke when sharpened enough to fill in small detail parts of the picture in the book. Some of the pencils tended to crumble during use, and the crumbs would also stain the paper unless brushed off immediately with a very soft brush. The brush that came with my rechargeable eraser was too stiff, and it left stains when trying to brush off the crumbs. I just used an extra unused, very soft Blush On brush and it swept off the crumbs without causing them to stain. I think that the smooth paper on the swatch sheet and in the coloring book might have caused some of these problems. Some of my swatched colors often were not looking very close to the colors on the enclosed, printed in color, booklet swatches. The booklets are very nice with extra information on how to hold and use the pencils. I am inclined to think the problems I had were more likely to have been caused by the paper than by the pencils, but not the differences in the color from those in the enclosed colored swatch sheet. I am too inexperienced to know. I tried buying Liquitex clear gesso to apply it to smooth swatch sheets and smooth color book pages that don't have any tooth to pull the color off of colored pencil leads, but I was too confused by the many applications of the multitude of the clear gesso products offered under Liquitex alone in Amazon, to figure out what to get. Some of the clear gessos were offered as laydown over several surfaces, including new canvases or those previously painted on, but none for laydown over art paper to add tooth or texture. Is there any way to figure out which one I should get for my purpose? My budget is tight and many coloring books from Amazon had to be returned because of page edges and binding cutting off parts of a very large number of pictures. Also, because they had very smooth paper, even Basford and Morotta. I wanted to follow some coloring tutorials done in the original books, but I would never be able to use enough layers on smooth paper to try to learn the effects they are trying to teach me. I am so sorry. I know you must always have dreaded seeing my name on a comment for over 15 years. "Help! It's that awful proverbial bad penny showing up again with another Great American Novel! Somebody tell her I'm away in France and completely tied up for a few years."

    • @thefrugalcrafter
      @thefrugalcrafter  6 місяців тому

      Liquatex makes only 1 clear gesso, but it comes in different sizes. I always link to the exact product I mention. The pens are fine point. Computer screens can be off so it can be hard to tell.

    • @deepowers3117
      @deepowers3117 6 місяців тому

      @@thefrugalcrafter I know you always link products, but I don't think clear gesso was used in this video. Just my fault for going off topic again. Found it! It was spelled Liqui, instead of Liqua. Thank you! I think I should apply it in my coloring books with a brush. Is there a brush that works best for this? I think there must be more people than I finding this coloring book and swatch sheet trending to smooth paper a challenge, especially with budget pencils. I returned a set of Artisto pencils and am considering doing the same with a 180 set of Soucolor budget pencils. Their swatch sheet is as smooth as glass, and at times a 3rd layer will try to lift up the previous one. How do I know if it's the pencils or the paper? Those are a lot of colors to give up, but if they won't work in smooth papered books, even those by the popular artists, I guess I should return them too, before it's too late. Sorry to be such a bother with this, because I know you don't use colored pencils a lot, but I also know that when you do, you make beautiful art with them. Any videos that you know of on how to properly apply the gesso? I usually do things that seem no brainers to others the wrong way.. You've been so patient with me and I really appreciate it more than you could ever imagine

    First I have to say, you only pay 5.5%sales tax in Maine? Damn! We pay 9.75% here in the SF East Bay Area! We are really robbed by our government out here. We have the highest gas tax, too. We’re paying $4.60 right now, but it was about a dollar higher not long ago. Newsome will destroy this country if he ever becomes president, God forbid!
    OK, rant over. I’m so jealous of all of your art supplies. What a haul! If I had your job I would need a warehouse for all of the stuff I’d collect😆 I’m so excited to see you use them. I’m curious about the Amazon Basics colored pencils. I recently purchased a set of 72 Markart pencils for my granddaughter for Christmas. It took me quite a few reviews and videos to decide which set to get her. Your review helped me make up my mind. I considered the MagicFly’s and the Amazon Basics, too, but ultimately went with the other set.
    You are so right about Amazon and their packaging as of late. I’ve had so many things destroyed when I got them. I’m wondering if products are so cheap to make in China that they don’t care if they destroy a few along the way? They also make it really difficult to exchange things. I just had to replace a water pik flosser that was leaking from every spot possible. I got the replacement today, and they didn’t even put it inside of another box. It was just in the box that would be on a store shelf. The driver had pinched it on the sides, probably because he needed to pick it up, I assume. He also just set it in the dampness on our porch stairs. It had just been raining outside. Fortunately, I saw it pretty fast. They don’t even knock on the door or ring the bell anymore to let you know it’s here. It seems to be working OK, but somebody could’ve saw that on my porch and just picked it up and ran off with it, or it could’ve started raining again and it would’ve been all wet. The quality of service and of goods has gone down tremendously in the last few years. There are so many products that look exactly like another, but their prices are different. You don’t know what you’re really buying anymore. And then while shopping for Christmas gifts this week, the prices kept changing so frequently it was making me crazy! I didn’t dare look at something closely until I was ready to buy it because if I did I know the price would change. I also don’t put anything in my cart until I’m ready to buy or the price goes up. It really makes me angry! Products where the only difference is the color of the item, cost more. It all makes no sense. I’m ready. To give up on them. Have you noticed the same things? I feel Amazon has almost become justlike Temu or AliExpress; rather shady!
    Anyway, I’d love to see all of those products, especially the gouache, the Seaglass DaVinci Watercolor (I adore seaglass!), the oil pastels and fixative, and the silicone brushes. I’d also like to hear about what happened to LUKAS watercolors. I’ve used some of them and loved them, but bought them years ago. I’m going to have to let my “want monster loose!”

    I love DaVinci watercolors, but unfortunately was disappointed by their gouache. I had heard this -- so I only tried a triad, and I'm glad I didn't get more. It's sticky and not opaque. I bought a bunch of Holbein which I like better, but my fave turned out to be M. Graham (except their white, weirdly, which I dislike.) I'm excited to see your take on DV. Might be better with added white. W&N is also great.
