As a physician and 72yo avid tennis player I appreciate all you said and did not say in the video. You are definitely not on the right track, you are the right track!! thanks for your approach. Now, I saw a Chinese guy do a one finger hand stand, do you teach that??? :-)
I don't feel so bad that I never joined a gym and I'm almost 60. I bought rings for my back yard 2 years ago - always loved the rings (at school). Mixed with boxing, running, dancing and a little cal, for decades, I find a beautiful balance. Resting heart rate of sub 40, and I'm not at the peak of any physical endeavour, per se - except perhaps punching speed. I love how you kept it short and succinct. I've always challenged the status quo - respectfully, it's healthy.
I've been working out for a while and as soon as you mentioned the tightness I was like.... yeahhhhhh..... I can bench a fair amount and can do volume of pushups, but as you mentioned, by bridge and such is abysmal. Can't wait to see future videos and ways to improve my fitness paradigm going forward!!
I watched your pulsing vid and put it into practise. My wrist for several years has been so weak and painful its been unbareable. In just a few weeks my wrist feel so much stronger and far less pain its a miracle for me thanks Lee means the world brother big oss
I have always struggled with building real strength, I am in my 60's now and had a long time off due to health problems, I am training again now, and damm it's really hard. I feel like it's going to take me years or never get there again. thanks for your videos, they are brilliant.
Just ran into this video. I needed this information so bad, cause my should is goin out. It pops when I do shoulder press. I was in the military and did a lot of pushups. But never heard of the reverse. Thanks so much you might have just saved me a trip to the op room. I've already been shot twice, stabbed twice in the head. I had 85% of my body burned. I was in a mortar attack and got shrapnel in right arm and leg. I've died 3 times in this life time alone on the op table. I've had 14 surgeries on my head by itself, much less the rest of my body, So THANKS again...
Good thing that Im on the road to master the Planche and after the planche pushups and the HSPU! ^^ Its because I want to become a superhuman and a great Martial Artist !
Thanks for the info. I have a tendency overdo push up and then my elbows get to the point where I need to lay off push ups for about 6 months. I will try these other exercises.
Thank you for the advice. I did every week hundreds of push ups. Really I had back pain. But I would never think about that this is because of push ups. Many greets from Germany 👍🏼
Last three days, I have been doing backbend pushups in place of regular pushups. It has been rough, but I feel my body thanking me already. When I stopped to think about it, I realized backbend pushups are a more accurate opposite to pullups. One reason is pullups require ab contraction, while backbend pushups require ab extension. And the same goes with every other muscle in there it seems. In contrast, regular pushups require ab contraction almost identical to pullups. I would say regular pushups and pullups are contracting many of the same muscles, despite their names. This breakthrough in calisthenics is giving me the motivation to get good at backbends. Before now, I always quit because they are just so difficult for me. I have a lot of hardened scar tissue that needs to broken up back there.
I am using TRX and exploring so many movements in a compound way. I'm 60 and feel like 30! For sure I complete all that with good sleep, keto, and so on. Thank you for sharing your great content!
Nice video with superior editing! - I used to work w/ weights when younger but now over 50 I mostly do calisthenics and they have really made a huge difference for me without even pushing myself hard. I'm actually shocked at the progress you can make with bodyweight exercises. Really seems like the way to go.👍
Bodyweight first definitely. Train for the goal, not the other way around. Glad you're making good progress. Here's another 50+ www.pacificrimathletics.com/vennie-story
I am just about done with mainstream work outs, so much conflicting information, one guy backed with scientific studies will tell you this, and the other guy also backed with scientific studies will tell you something else.
I’ve been hypothesizing doing various forms of pushups and movements for strength building in general as better for the body opposed to the same core exercises for a while now. The body craves variety for food and is better off for it. Why wouldn’t there be a similar effect with exercise?
My shoulders are fucked basically anything over head is not possible or lateral raises with weights. It would be cool if he knows some magic workout that would fix my shoulders but I am skeptical
Unfortunately I compound fractured my right elbow so my arm won’t go fully straight and I have arthritis in my left shoulder, I was a tree worker for most of my life so some of this is not possible😢
@@LeeWeiland very true. Not exactly an expert and I'm trying to get back in shape myself. Being that there's not a gym out here I'd agree the market is primed for it in Houston. But where would I start?
I do have a couple of questions sir. The support stand is largely an isometric exercise. Studies shows that muscle lengthening and shortning is important for hypertrophy. Won't that be equivalent to building quadriceps with wall sit than squats? Secondly, You said that pushup is a laying movement, but it doesn't matter whether the body is laying or standing as long as the direction of resistance is correct. I am not at your level of fitness sir. Please forgive me if i sound stupid. Thank you.
static support is isometric, except when you start doing ring turns and ad & abduction of arms...or dips into support, etc. etc. static support also develops connective tissue in elbows wall squat is bent legs...the the more appropriate analogy would be the leg iron cross (middle splits without hands) bench is laying movement try a support in rings with arms locked and hands turned out for 60s
Don't think i can do any of those exercises because i ripped both pecs had surgery. The first incident bench pressing in my early forties ripped major right pec off the bone!. I always lifted since a teenager then left pec again 54 y/o do HIIT pushup offset crazy dumb ass i was.
@@LeeWeiland My progress is great no more bench pressing any amount over 145 lbs. I can finally do pull-ups for about 10 reps 3 times. but can't fully extend down scared. I started to do yoga Man did I realize how tight the upper chest & arms. Stretching is the key that I never do to preventing injury.
Among others, I do yoga, calisthenics and gymnastics as a hobby. I am looking for sth. similar to this in europe, I mean a gymnastics club is a good address to turn to, however a trustable personal coach on-site is important but honestly how to know who to trust, everyone is convinced of themselves and their methods. Life span is too short to have too much trial and error ... why the heck should I trust you, for example? I know already pretty well which excercises are more or less effective. Still, it needs a long time with many failures to figure out how to integrate new exercises and how to speed things up without risking injuries and dead ends. I am looking for a solution ...
Right don't trust me or others online. Get connected. And you're right, it takes time, trial, and error, which can be avoided when working with a coach whether face to face or online, like the team we have.
Awesome channel. Thanks for your videos. But how do I resolve pain in wrist when doing anything on floor such as push up, it's really holding me back? Thanks
@@LeeWeiland I've been looking for something similar but I don't think anyone has built a gym like this here, focusing on bodyweight movements. It's all weight lifting gyms. Hi Lee, I discovered your channel. Wow, what athletes. At the moment the things shown are a bit hectic. Bam bam one picture, next picture etc. Maybe it is possible to present a bit slower? Especially the exercises that you should do instead of the typical ones like bench press, a bit more precise, slower presentation? Your videos shouldn't be stressful? Or is it on purpose to do a handstand right on the wall? Greetings from German Stuttgart - Joe

Wow this is super dope Karma. I know exactly what you’re saying is true. Because just doing basic workouts, without doing certain stretches and functional motor flexibility movements only titans the muscle and limits. Strength will definitely be limited. Just subscribe, notifications bell on!!!
I was actually just reading an article written by Todd Kuslikis addressing how to make pushups harder, then this video popped up in my feed. Either way, Lee, consider me subscribed and great information. I am actually going to start looking for a set of rings soon.
