- The head of a charity combatting antisemitism said the Metropolitan Police is allowing “no-go zones for Jews” after footage showed him being threatened with arrest close to a pro-Palestine march.
Gideon Falter, chief executive of the Campaign Against Antisemitism, was wearing a kippah skull cap when he was stopped from crossing the road near the demonstration in the Aldwych area of London on Saturday afternoon.
The video clip, which was posted on social media, showed Mr Falter being told by police that he was “quite openly Jewish” and causing a “breach of peace”.

I have watched the entire video and would like to share my opinion; Mr Gideon Falter performance could be nominated for an Oscar in 2025.

He wasn't going to be violent.. the hate-marchers were. This is why he was politely disagreeing with the police. @@pumpkineater23 At the beginning of the video, the police are seen respectfully requesting at least three times for the procession not to be followed. At 3:30 seconds into the video, Mr. Gideon is seen attempting to go behind the procession, ignoring the police's advice. The police were able to stop him physically. Any law-abiding citizen would never accept such behaviour towards the police. It is extremely provocative.
Saw the full video.. He was causing trouble at the protest and then asked to move on. But played the victim after that.. Typical 🙄🙄

It wouldn’t take much to cause trouble at these marches, which seem to be happening ALL THE TIME now! I’ll bet if you asked those marching about the intricacies of the Isreal fight back they would be clueless! I've seen the full clip and he wasn't being provocative. A jew has the right to walk anywhere they want, just like black person in a sundown town in the USA, just like a muslim man in rural Alabama. If simply his presence causes violence, then the issue is not his it's those that turn to violence.

If the police with reasonable suspicion decide in the interests of keeping the peace it is better for an individual to not be allowed in a certain place at a certain time they can lawfully deny them access. I believe yesterday a man named Tommy Robinson was in court for a similar incident when he was arrested with the support of Gideon Falter. Unless you think Gideon is somewhat above the law you are wrong.
I have just read witness accounts and it looks like this man and a small group deliberately tried to provoke trouble. The policeman was within his rights to arrest him for trying to cause trouble.

The comment misrepresents a potential danger felt by the police officer that he as a known agitator could potentially provoke trouble that could end with harm to him or others. The intent of the officer seemed to be good. Offered to help the man cross elsewhere with his safety in mind. We can throw around should this be necessary and all that, and in a perfect world, no it should not be. But things arent perfect, the man did seem to be observed walking against the crowd, he was possibly putting himself and others at risk at changing a protest from relatively peaceful into something more dangerous.
If he truly just wanted to cross the road, accept the officers recommendation of crossing further down, with an escort if he even desired, and go on with the day.
Why is there any issue of his safety from this mob if they can easily identify him as Jewish?

I remember when the london riots were going on a police unit were marching down to stop the rioters and looters from blazing up north, and there were a few police officiers 50 metres ahead who kindly instructed people to step aside so they can pass and for us to head home for our safety. If a police officer determined from a Muslim that his actions were spurious and he intended to provoke trouble then the same thing would happen. He actually asked to be arrested and the officer refused. But should he be detained for breach of the peace he would probably simply be released at another place or time.

He didn’t want to go anywhere. Channel 4 has a video, here on UA-cam, with footage of him arguing with police on both the south and north pavements of the eastern branch of Aldwych. The western branch of Aldwych was actually shut down with a group of pro-Israel protestors stood there facing the larger pro-Gaza march coming down Kingsway and turning left towards St Clement Danes church. Falter could have easily crossed where the pro-Israel group were standing and continued on his way.
Whenever I have to cross the road in St James area and London Marathon or something similar is taking place- the police are clear - there are specific crossing points and so one has to detour a bit further to cross. One just does it. You DONT argue with the police. They are there to create law and order and I respect that.

It was clearly because of the safety concerns and he should have listened and let the police to keep him safe also not to make the situation escalate. His personal feelings took over and as much as I can understand from what it seems like well educated man I would expect the understanding of his and public safety as a priority not his fragile ego! 🤦♀️🙌🙏 in this case the police was right to make that decision and was trying to simply explain to him the reasoning under the occurring at this time situation and it should not be difficult to comprehend, I would assume?!
