We got a bullmastiff when I was 8 and my sister was 6 and we regularly had other kids around. Our bullmastiff was so gentle and affectionate with us and other children, always really excited to meet new people. They really are wonderful dogs and I hope I can have another one some day! RIP Cassie ❤️
I wasn't even looking for a dog but I started following and the way you present everything is so enunciated and crystal clear whilst at the same time friendly and opened. Kudos for all the time and effort you put in this material.
I've had 4 bullmastiffs over the years, still have one, they are without a doubt (in my opinion) the best family dogs, they couldn't have been more gentle and affectionate around kids, one of my sons now has one himself, they're an amazing dog, they are very needy in terms of needing affection, they need to be treated accordingly, wonderful family dogs
We have a beautiful 6 month old female.... She is 39kg and loves kids , us and other dogs. She is like a silent alarm to. She will stand her ground but make no noise.
They’re a great breed! we got a rescue first then 2 pups before she passed and ha a pup from their litter. And are the most beautiful animal. They also pick up on moods, if your sad they’re general and loving when your happy they’re happy with you. The best!!!
Our 5 month old bullmastiff loooooves kids and since we've socialized since day 1 he has gotten along with many other dogs. He does love chasing butterflies, of course he hasn't hit full maturity yet so I'm sure that will die down lol.
I could not agree more with your video. When I had one, it was perfectly fine around the kids, although, it did take up a lot of room on the couch, and many a wrestling match ensued for a spot on it. Plus when the kids played in the front yard with the 200 plus pound behemoth, most people walked to the other side of the street. I would add one thing. Being a massive animal, you need to make sure that you instill yourself as its leader early. You don't want such a monster to even think about challenging u, even if it is ultra rare with this breed. It happened only once or twice, but never again.
Accent is my favorite when you say perfect. Had a 8 1/2 year old bullmastiff. Just rescued a 2+ old bullmastiff wondering how to let a year old hyper little girl that’s staying with us for a while interact with him. Kept here away for this first week but slowly have let her interact with him keeping her high pitch nature down not doing face to face interaction of course not letting her be on the floor with him always standing and never bothering him while eating though I have rub him etc while eating no food aggression as I’ve seen. But want him to see her and her mother as family and part or his group to protect. He is sweet and hasn’t shown any danger signs from my non professional assessment. Of course we never Leave him alone with her just need to know what the best way to move forward. Thanks

i grew up with a bullmastiff for over 8 years and he was the sweetest, most loving boy ever. beautiful too, a bullmasty x bulldog who only ate flies XD
The two I owned (both females) were great with cats and incredible with people in general. If that person was welcome in your home, the Bullies were more than willing to allow that person to love on them for their entire visit. Very, very social to the point they considered a trip to the vet to be a party.
If you don't mind my asking, do you feel that female Bullmastiffs are more gentle than males? I notice you mentioned that both of yours were female. I am particularly interested in which would be more gentle with cats. Including one senior kitty and one young kitty who will try to get the dog to play.
Sound like my bullmastiffs. All three were great with people and they also loved cats, two of them in the standard way and the third (my first bullmastiff) in her own way. She used to chase them according to my mom. My third bullmastiff was a real gentle giant. She would not fight anything. She even tried to make friends with deer.
@@anyascelticcreations just saw this. The only male I have had was a large male we fostered. He was fine with cats also, but was much more protective in general. Very aware of what was going on. Not aggressive, but fearless!
@@robersonclan4879 Thank you for the nice reply. 😊 I actually ended up adopting a rescue Boxer. She looks and acts a lot like a very small Bullmastiff. (Well, like a rescue Bullmastiff maybe) Only thinner. I know what you mean about not being aggressive, but being very alert and aware of everything. My Boxer had a pretty bad life before me, so she's scared of most people. But she's fearless with dogs, though not aggressive. And she doesn't look scared, so people see her alertness and her guarding stance and they assume that she's guarding me. Maybe she is. I'd still love to have a Bullmastiff someday. But I was pretty fortunate to have this sweet Boxer just fall into my life. So, right now I feel contented with 2 kitties and her. 🐾🐾🐾

Our Bullmastiffs were super gentle with other dogs. Our 1st bullmastiff had several tiny poodle friends and was very careful around them. Our children were raised by Bullmastiffs...perfect breed for little children, as well as big children, adults, other dogs..... They are super smart and will guard when needed, but their default behavior is to love everyone. Our bullmastiffs loved cats...1st bullmastiff liked to chase neighbor cat when he came into the yard at night but also liked to snuggle with the cat. Some of them will go after rabbits, mice, etc...some could care less.
This is exactly the information that I was wanting to know. I have two beloved kitties who are my life. So, I will want my future dog to love and protect them with me and be extremely gentle with my cats. I would also want my dog to protect me if needed, but otherwise pretty much just be chill. And I love the size. From this and everything else I've learned about the breed, it sounds like the Bullmastiff is the breed for me.
@@SolidGeddoe I actually didn't. I realized that I can't afford all that goes into having a dog that big right now. I went with a Boxer who I adopted as an adult instead. This was a great video. I’ve been looking for the perfect breed to keep an eye on my small dogs while they’re outside in the yard but not to hurt them. Does anyone know how to contact Will? I was hoping to speak with him.
Thanks for another great video, Will! So, I'll be bringing a Bullmastiff pup home in several months. Given that I have a year old male Mini Schnauzer/ Mini Poodle mix (neutered), do you recommend a male or female Bullmastiff? Does it matter? Thanks!
Females are more temperamental and moody, and are more about protecting you. Males are more goofy and affectionate and focus more on protecting their property. It honestly doesn't matter which one you get, but females are more about being a lap dog, and males are about using you as a bed if you're on their couch if that makes sense
I have an intact male, and sometimes small neutered dogs can be aggressive towards him, but he ignores this. However, he won't tolerate a larger dog trying to dominate him, and my understanding is that most Bullmastiff males to tend towards dominance (not aggression) - he just assumes that he is the boss, but he is not a bully, if that makes sense. I would guess that the "safest" option is the opposite gender, but if your current dog is not dominant, either should be fine. If your current dog is dominant and tries to boss large male dogs, then introducing a large male (and likely dominant) dog could be tricky if they didn't find equilibrium. PS I'm not an expert, these are just my thoughts. As I understand it, the most difficult situation can be two females that don't get on.
Anthony Kammas That should be fine - mine gets on fine with other males, intact or not, and he’s very calm. Several breeders have told me that BM’s aren’t very “typey” - that is, there is quite a range of personality. I made it clear that I wanted a family dog. He still has plenty of untrained guarding instinct - he insists on checking people who walk behind me at night!
Where are you located Sir? I'd love one of your puppies once I purchase my new home. I've been studying guard dogs but they all seem very intense with their energy and the need for constant Stimulation mental and physical. I think I have landed on the perfect family Guard dog❤ I do enjoy training pets especially dogs and cats. What I love about the bull mastiff is their temperament. They seem so lovely.
We have a male 3yo mixed Chihuahua of 5kg we got 1.5years ago. At home he's very chill but barks at EVERY stranger dog when I take him for a walk. I try to socialize him the best I can but he will actually try to bite the other dog when I let him approach one. He will also let no stranger pet him ( took 3months for my mother to touch him, seeing her once every weekend) I have a friend who has a very calm ~20kg neutered male dog, he really gets along with him. Everytime he sees him they play for an hour, he'll try hump him all along but my friend's dog is ok with it and will let him know when it's really annoying. My chi is very cool once he gets to know the other dogs. So, having always wanted a big dog I took interest in the bull mastiff. Do you think it would be safe for the chi ? What kind of training does the bullmastiff need ?
Great video! I was researching English bull mastiffs. We may be getting a puppy but it’s a English bull mastiff mixed with German shepherd. I have a two sons 4&2. I was worried about how the dog would act towards them. What would you recommend. Thanks.
Hi ! Just got a wonderful 8 week bull mastiff! It's almost been a week (we bought and have been going through the perfect puppy course) but my question is what to do when you have friendly dogs come over.. and puppy tries playing with them but the other dogs don't want to. . And they don't get the hint. So do you stop it , since sometimes he is still even bigger than the other dogs? Or do you let the dogs create their own boundaries
I know it's been a while since this was posted. I am looking for advice on owning a dog. I work typically 8 hours so I'm gone 8-10 when factoring in commute. I also live in an apartment with my 6 yo daughter so I'd need a dog ok with a smaller space and good with kids. I have always loved the Bull Mastiff but didn't know if my circumstances made the breed a good choice. Any advice or recommendations would be much appreciated. Thanks!
I'm looking to buy a bull mastiff I've experience with raising dogs I've owned a wolf dog an akita and have experience training dogs but never owned a bull mastiff do you know a breeder that's reliable reputable and trustworthy thst I can buy from
Really smitten with the bullmastiff and wanting to get a pup but was worried about it because my girlfriend has 2 cats in the apartment and everywhere I look online says about their prey drive etc and how they can't be trusted with cats and other small animals even other dogs... wish other sites had this insight, thanks will 👍
@@anyascelticcreations haven't unfortunately, possibly in the future but for our first dog together we're now looking at a getting a bernese at some point or bernese cross 😊
@@TheMaineMonty That makes sense. They can be wonderful dogs, too. They have their issues too, especially as inside dogs, but there is a lot good about them, too. I wish you guys the best with whoever you choose. PS, I had what I believe to have been a Bernese cross. And she was way too interested in "playing " with my cats. Though, that could have been the Boxer in her. She did try to "box", but she also really wanted to herd and nip at them. And chase them. Bernese Mountain Dogs have been a favorite of mine for years. But I don't think I'd get one with cats again.
@@anyascelticcreations Thank you 😊 Omg a boxer cross bernese! I'd love that! Bet she was gorgeous!!! we'll get our pup at some point and the waiting will all be worth it 😊
@@TheMaineMonty She really was absolutely gorgeous. Like a more muscular Bernese. Her markings were like a Bernese but dark brindle, so she had red mixed in with the black. And she had long fur like a Bernese, but held her head high and walked pretty like a Boxer. I couldn't take her anywhere without people stopping to ask what she was. I think she would have been a fantastic dog if I would have had a yard for her to burn off energy in. But it didn't go well in an apartment. She took to obedience training beautifully. But she wouldn't leave my cats alone. I ended up rehoming her to a family with land to run on and kids to play with. I hope you guys find your perfect dog! One who won't try to roughhouse with the cats. 😊
What would probably happen is what happened to me. We had a bossy shihtzu when I was a kid. She would rush to eat our other dogs food, nip at them etc. We got a bullmastiff and she put up with it until she was big enough to fight back. Well typically lady rushed to eat sheebas food, and sheeba picked her up and threw her across the living room and went back to eating. No one got hurt but I think lady was shocked and never did it again as sheeba became the alpha female of our 5 dogs.
the dude. My boyfriends little dog is a male and he bark to Say hi. And we want a bullmastiff male. We had an cane corso before and them was best friends.
@@knegg9333 they should be fine together but if the little dog tries to dominate the mastiff it's not going to go over lightly. Male bullmastiffs are very dominant, also don't fix him until after he's 2 otherwise it will cause all kinds of cancers
Will, I am another behaviourist. I adore your passion; however, the chop and change between Bm CC and Em are frustrating for the potential keeper; note, I never use the term "owner' to "own" implies everything Coppinger and McConnell ever cited against. It is your responsibility as a behaviourist to have a strong and convincing portfolio of information. Through selective breeding, the Bm is basically, in temperament and through physical confirmation, an energetic version of an Em being 60% so genetically; you said so yourself in a previous. Your energy is fabulous; however, I would prefer that, as professional as you are, you limit the advertising of the Cane Corso to strict consultations and not the general public on social media. I share my life with 2 Bullmastiffs, Bria and Seamus; I have previously lived with Texas, an English Mastiff. More and more Cane Corsos are ending up in UK shelters. Too much Dog for most people!. You don't need to present them here. Respectfully 😀
Hi Will I’ve been watching your videos for some time and I always said if I ever had enough room I would get a giant breed. I Love the Bull Mastiff and Cane Corso. I think I’ve narrowed things down to which is likely to be better with other dogs we come across on walks. I assume this will come down to socialisation. I have three older children, plenty of space, lots of people over a lot. My kids do argue sometimes also. Any advice from you or anyone else on here would be amazing.
I’m also going to sign up to perfect puppy. Should I do that before I get the dog or is it a step by step. I have always owned boxers, are there similarities between them and cane corso and bull mastiff

He will also let no stranger pet him ( took 3months for my mother to touch him, seeing her once every weekend)
I have a friend who has a very calm ~20kg neutered male dog, he really gets along with him.
Is it possible to safely have a bullmastiff with two small dogs (12 lbs and 7 lbs)?
I know it's been a while since this was posted. I am looking for advice on owning a dog. I work typically 8 hours so I'm gone 8-10 when factoring in commute. I also live in an apartment with my 6 yo daughter so I'd need a dog ok with a smaller space and good with kids. I have always loved the Bull Mastiff but didn't know if my circumstances made the breed a good choice. Any advice or recommendations would be much appreciated. Thanks!
Do you think a bullmastiff would make a good therapy dog? I have panic disorder and ptsd. Thank you
I hope you have found some healing and peace on your healing journey
I'm looking to buy a bull mastiff I've experience with raising dogs I've owned a wolf dog an akita and have experience training dogs but never owned a bull mastiff do you know a breeder that's reliable reputable and trustworthy thst I can buy from
I have a 1 year old female bullmastiff ... im planning to adopt a mongrel puppy ... which gender should i choose?
Really smitten with the bullmastiff and wanting to get a pup but was worried about it because my girlfriend has 2 cats in the apartment and everywhere I look online says about their prey drive etc and how they can't be trusted with cats and other small animals even other dogs... wish other sites had this insight, thanks will 👍
Did you get your Bullmastiff? And if so, is he good with the cats?
@@anyascelticcreations Thank you 😊
Omg a boxer cross bernese!
Hi. I have a small dog, and thinking of getting a Bullmastiff puppy. But is it safe? My 4 kg dog is bossy and dominant.
Male bullmastiffs are very dominant, also don't fix him until after he's 2 otherwise it will cause all kinds of cancers
the dude. It not allowed whit castrations there I live. Only if it’s a medical issue.
knegg9333 ...don't allow castration ? What place doesn't allow neutering dogs ?
Very strange indeed.

I have always owned boxers, are there similarities between them and cane corso and bull mastiff
love from india
My boy is broken because he has a massive pray drive for squirrels 🐿
That's all dogs lol
I keep mine on the lead in park because of this. Foxes, squirrels, cats - he goes "deaf"! Very high prey drive.
You talk to much. Better if you show us a video of dogs. Not only bla bla bla
Thanks for the feedback, we believe our approach allows us to educate as many people as possible on as many topics as possible but fully support other youtubers who take a different approach!
Damn dude, you're so rude and disrespectful. If you don't like his approach then watch another channel. Simple.
