our old Rottweiler was probably sick of me pulling his ear and poking him when I was a child but he never growled at me or anything he was so patient and well behaved, he was also very good around our cats never had any issues

My male rottie LOVES children. He likes people to begin with but if there are children within a group of people we’re saying hi to, he ignores and dodges the adults and goes immediately to the children to say hi. And not an energetic or obnoxious hello, very calm and smiles. Makes me happy and proud.

That's great! Ours does the same but being a pup he does it in an energetic manner still. Was yours always calm or did it come wirh age?

@@gabib.1780 With age but we actually got him from the shelter at around a year and a half, almost two. So we had a short window of spazziness. Once he got to be two years old he mellowed out, as I feel most dogs do, and now he just kinda lounges about the house. He’ll have his moments of play but mostly just hanging out. My niece will drape herself over him sometimes and lets her dress him up. He just takes it.

And as long as the kids are taught how to treat and respect the dog there will be no problems. More times than not family dogs bite the kids that aren’t taught how to treat them especially senior dogs.

As a little kid (5yrs old) I tipped my little four wheeler over on top of me and I remember our Rottweiler grabbed my shirt and pulled me away from it. My mom seen out of the kitchen window and came running with a big knife only to realize that he was just helping me. I use fall asleep with my head on his stomach all the time!!

My sister had 4 Rottweilers a huge garden in Jamaica, and my nephew who was 4 at the time who is an adult now and he was always alone with the dogs his whole life. He use to ride their backs like horses, pull their ears, smack them with small sticks even though he was told not to smack them, and they never once lashed out. My sister is only 4ft11 but they knew she the boss she only has 3 left now, 1 got sick and passed a year ago. All she had to was say listen me puppy in Jamaican ascent , but obviously not everyone Is thsr fortunate to get such well behaved dogs so please be mindful leaving children unattended with any dog
To add to that when I first went out to visit them from Uk they barked at me every time they saw me at the window I could not go out to the garden for about 3 days alone they would have eaten me for sure their trained to eat strangers on the property. After a few days. I was able to go out their push my nephew on the swing they started licking me but everytime I visit it’s same thing they forget who I am. Once they are okay with u they absolute joy and actually big softy’s just doing their job

Will, we love you and your work! After a long search and 2 months of preparation, we are going to choose our rottweiler puppy! We have decided on a female who's parents are in the 80 lb range.
We have had large breeds for the last 30 years, rott, gsd, boxer Pitt mix, pure boxer, and a gsd lab mix.
This will be our first AKC dog.
Looking forward to getting the Perfect Puppy program.
    Thanks again Will!

I was afraid of big dogs growing up but never a Rottweiler funny enough. When I was 12 years old my friend and I befriended a poor rottie that was living outside of the house rain or shine. We would visit him all summer and stick our hands thru the fence and pet him. Plus they don’t bark often and their barks are so low which I love

I brought my wife and young son to meet the Rattie I met in our neighborhood liquor store . My son took one look at Victor and threw himself on the dog. The dog looked up at my son as if saying," Another one of those " , then went back to sleep.

We have an 18 month old male rottie who gets really over-excited whenever my partner's grandson, who is 4, comes over. We try really hard to teach him to be calm and non-boisterous around the little one, but he doesn't stay with us often and so each time is like the first time and it's quite stressful. Rocky is, under normal circumstances, really well behaved, affectionate, well socialised and friendly. But he's like a bull in a China shop and has previously knocked Ollie over because he doesn't know how to be careful around him. Any tips would be much appreciated!

Need some help!! Former marine and dog trainer. We took on a rotti as a rescue. Working on his dog aggression and its going amazing. But he is extremely protective of our grandkids 4 and 7 are thier ages. When you hug or pick 1 up he circles you and nudges you until you put the kid down, I have videos of this behavior. He isn't aggressive with the kids at all. Super loving to them, but I'm worried this behavior will continue. And after a week we are in love with him, super gentle and very loving. Can this be corrected and how the heck to I do it

This is probably my favorite breed ever, and my dream dog. It is beautiful, I love that is a protector and an amazing guardian that is fiercely loyal. I do have reservations when it comes to making a Rottweiler my next dog though, and want some guidance from someone who will obviously have more insight into the breed than I can ever hope to get on my own.
I work at a care facility home for adults with psychiatric diagnoses of different varieties, and currently bring my current dog to work with me as a sort of therapy dog that the people we care for loves to be around, to pet, give treats, and see her do her many tricks. I am unsure whether a Rottweiler will be able to fill that need, and wanted to know whether or not the Rottweiler coming to work with me from the time it is a puppy, is enough to make it safe for the people in my care. Or is the breed too guarded, and it's protective instincts too strong, for it to be safe in such an environment?
Further more, my current dog is used to my parents or friends having her when I need them to, and even for them to let themselves into my house to pick her up, or simply to let her out for a walk and a pee on the very rare occasions when I feel I will be gone so long that it is needed. I live alone, and only work part time, 5 or 6 hours at max 3 days a week, so the dog will not often be alone for too long, and it isn't a thing that happens too often, but again I worry whether or not the breeds natural instincts to protect and guard will make it able to accept even the people it knows very well to let themselves in when I am not there.
I am a big believer in the idea that a dog can be well raised and socialized no matter what breed it is, but I also know that it is important to be smart about what kind of breed you choose in order to set both yourself and your dog up for success, so I hope you will give me an honest answer to help me decide whether or not it is realistic to consider this amazing breed as a potential option in the future.

@@willathertonrottieshow1721 Already watched the second video, and found it so great that it came so soon after I commented about it. I think a Rottweiler is amazing, but I also love the Bullmastiff. I am probably starting to think that a Bullmastiff would be the better choice for me, but I will continue doing research on all the breeds. Hopefully I still have years ahead with my current girl, and will have a lot of time to research and think before needing to make that choice.

Look at a good breeder there are breeders that breed therapy Rottweiler I had them for 30 years and there a big diffrence when it comes to temperament stability between a 500$ Rottweiler and one that will cost you 3 or 4 times as mutch. Research tge breeder before you make a choice. Most good ones will want a few reference ,will question you and have done it for a while. If the breeder is breeding for Shutzhund champions and you want a family dog his not going to sell you one. The rest is your training there not dogs that will do well if its no one time and yes the next

Hi I wanted to ask something very important so please answer me if you know about this. ❤️I have a 16kg female un-spayed rescue dog which is now 2 years old. She is very submissive but friendly with all dogs females and males big or small. I plan on getting a Rottweiler puppy (another female for various reasons) Do you think it’s dangerous? I have had various dogs before (including a female Maltese and a female boxer both unspayed which lived together perfectly even with a 4 year age gap between them) And I wanted to know if it is dangerous for my rescue dog? Will the Rottweiler be a danger for my other dog once it grows up? Or will they live happily together like all my other female dogs did? I wanted to know your opinion since you know the breed well. Thank you so much in advance for a response. ❤️

A female Rottweiler can be fine with another female if introduced as a puppy. However, I would suggest if you want to get a Rottweiler, get a male. They are a bit easier to handle and should be fine with your female.

We have a golden retriever - rottweiler mix, he's our 1st dog and amazingly friendly, obedient, intelligent, just a dream. His father is a golden retriever and his mother a rottie, he looks top to bottom like a rottie, except for the golden marks, he's pitch black. I don't know if all golden retriever-rottie mixes are the same, but this particular one and all his brothers this breeder has produced are just amazing based on owners' reports.

She is the most trustworthy and bestfriend i have to this date. Even if i just wanna lay on the couch she follows me. My dog and i connected in a special way. She got my back,. i got hers. The rep for rotties are to bad that it have to be.. Well yeah you need a strong alpha. But mostly you need that for the most. You just have to be stubborned asf.
