FINALLY... someone acknowledging the technicalities & fun theory used in this .. After my first listen; (Which was filled with, "Wait, this is avenged?"), the 2nd listen through filled me with awe... the weird timings in the intro, the insane guitar solo, the weird chords and BEAUTIFUL acoustic decisions at the end. I'm glad I've finally found someone who was able to put my thoughts into words~ Thank you so much!!

And boy is it!
the stop in the intro section isnt actually an odd time signature! its just 4/4 (the tempo being every kick+ride hit, that would make the stop a dotted quaver (3 16th notes in length) which is why it sounds so unnatural cause youre hearing the beat come in again on the upbeat
I think that M Shadows said that the start of the vocal line on the upbeat came out of an accident while working through playback on Pro Tools. Mistakes can make the coolest things.
Best reaction of this song! Finally someone really appreciating the art of this band instead of trashing it and moaning cause they think a7x somehow let them down.

6/15/23 - The full album is out now and it’s a consummate masterpiece. It’s a symphony and is worthy of being incorporated into theatre (Broadway show?) It would be an amazing audio/visual experience.

for the intro/solo parts, the weird skip part is actually still technically in 4/4
in an interview, Matt said that the software they used moved the part by one 8th note, making it stop abruptly.
they decided that was pretty cool and rolled with it.
but technically, you could also say it goes from 4/4 to 9/8, then to 7/8, and back to 4/4

There is a lot of Mr bungle influence on this album. And given they covered retrovertigo on the last album I think it’s intentional.
That rap(pish) part was cool and those screams man, though the intro sounds a bit weird to me, im definitely giving the album a try. Nobody was epic, been listening to it everyday.
It is a really progressive intro you would normally here something like that later in a song , kinda like how that solo section came up

This is a goddamn tune. I recently did a tip to bottom rating of every song by a7x and this is fourth. Yes fourth. Absolutely one of the best things they’ve ever released. The composition of this is masterful. The more I listen to it the better it is. And yes those guitar chords are orgasmic.
