What I got from this song/vid is the constant need for humans to want more of everything, which while good on the one hand, could lead to the detriment of society in the long-run (which is shown in the post-apocalyptic ending).
Now as far as this song growing on people, it definitely grew on me personally. My first listen I was more stunned and taken aback than anything, and because it was so weird I didn't care for it. But after two or three more times it grew on me because the strangeness of something I'm just not used to wore off.

Devil's advocate, the most replayed part is the biggest difference in the musical style of the song with the worst/ most jarring musical transitions, not just that its the "heavy" part. The heavy part starts before the top of the curve. Definitely some people are just listening for the heavy, but i song think that fully explains it
As a prog metal fan, i often need a few listens for a song to really appreciate some songs, especially lyrics. There are definitely songs im not a fan of on first listen but by 3-5 i love them. And sometimes skip other songs on the same album. Everyone is different though.

I don't know that the "I didn't like it and then I listened a million times" people don't like it per se, but I don't think they super enjoy it. I mean, at least for me, whenever I listen to a song that's different and not what I'm normally into, my first thought isn't normally "I don't like this" its more of a "this is definitely different, I owe this another listen." Now one thing that I'll say, is I don't think A7X should have just given the fans exactly what they were expecting, because the fans are expecting more of the same, and I think that's just artistic stagnation. I think everyone is free to like or dislike whatever for pretty much whatever reason, but part of that, I don't think there's any objectivity in music or any art. I have people who I think are talented and I see why people like them, but they aren't really for me, like the Beetles, I don't really like the Beetles all that much, but I do get why a lot of people really like them.
Another point in comparing this song to previous songs, one of the fundamental truths of music, is that repetition legitimizes, repetition legitimizes, repetition legitimizes, repeti... We have gleaned every bit of meaning we can after 100 plays of Afterlife, or Nightmare, or The Stage. 1 listen of this song is not the same experience or a similar level of understanding.

I remember watching the making of the self titled album (white album) and one of the members said something about one of their songs, "how will the fans like this music...wait...we're A7X, we can do whatever we want!" That statement is still true today. They can put out whatever you want as a band, it's up to the listeners to decide if they like it or not. Personally, the last few albums have been a miss with me. Maybe i am in the crowd of "make moar metal!" As that's how i knew them years ago. This song...i guess after seeing the music video, makes more sense. The audio alone was like tripping while being stone cold sober and i hated it (except for the most replayed part at 2:30-ish).
Here's my full take; i really didnt listen to anything off Hail to the King (even though i saw them in concert on that tour) and The Stage. Just thought it was too generic, and lost interest at the time. My friend is a huge A7X geek...hes the one that had me listen to this song in his car over the weekend. After it was over, i just looked at him, basically told him "dude i wanted to turn it off halfway through." He agreed with me, even as a massive A7X fan. You can love a band but not like every song and that's okay. It's what music is all about, it's a form of self expression, auditory art as i like to call it sometimes. The song definitely isn't for everyone...although i am curious to see where it's placed in the album, if they had made it into some type of concept album.

This song has good parts to it but the "more more more build build build" shit just ruins it completely for me. It sucks because it could have been a good song but they insist on being weird just for the sake of being weird, where in the past it felt like they were a way more "thought out" weird.
I'm glad you mentioned the Stockholm syndrome thing because it's definitely true rn in the a7x fanbase. It's been so long since we got new music from them so people try to desperately convince themselves it's the best thing they have ever heard and that they aren't disappointed.

People are perceiving the song in a weird way because they are expecting the same song template you would get from any average metal/rock song. You can generally guess when the chorus will come in or guess when the guitar riff will come in. But they specifically made the album in a un traditional fashion. They are keeping the listener on their toes such as in Nobody ending the song on a guitar solo. It's also very odd to say that someone doesn't like something because they gave it multiple listens before forming an opinion. Having to go back to a song multiple times to really get a feel for it is exactly what music should do when we listen. I love what they are doing with the new Album. Avenged is literally known for never making the same music. These guys have been giving us non stop hits for almost 3 decades, they don't have to give us WTF 2 or COE 2 we know they can make those style albums. So A7x is my favorite band. And I love this song and Nobody. But I think it makes a lot of sense if you don't like it lol. But my ADHD brain loves the randomness too it lmao. And i hope for more Shadows screaming on this album bc that was the best part. Keep up the great vids Chain ❤

I appreciate your honestly and honestly could care less if you like it or not. I think you’re totally entitled to that. However having to listen to a song multiple times before it clicks doesn’t mean you don’t like it? When The Stage came out I was confused and listened to it a lot. Now I play that album front to back sometimes daily. Hesitation is fine and I think once you listen to the song enough to memorize the jarring tone switches, it’s perfect.

I am absolutely on the same page with you about people saying they like songs after listening 100 times...however, after listening to Nobody about 5 times, I went from really disliking it to loving it. I've never really had that happen before. I think We Love You is weird, for sure. It's definitely not what I expected from A7X, but honestly, I'm cool with a genre shift. I don't want to hear the same thing over and over again. I personally really liked The Stage, and it seems like they're honing in on the more esoteric style choices from that album.

Ill admit, i sidnt like it at first, it was odd, felt like scrapped songs were put together. But once the album came out and i listened to it all at once, i liked it more. Now its my 3rd favorite on the album. Theres a couple on the album that i dont gravitate towards, but this one, nobody, and cosmic are my top 3 (not in the order). The album as a whole is fun and great to listen to (for me). Its different, while retaining some previous avenged sounds.

Love the reaction, keep up the great work! A7X is very controversial in their music, and although I love 'em, Its cool to see people express the opposite.
After multiple listens I do like this song, but there are a lot of really fucking weird choices in it.
The prog elements A7X has been doing this album and the last is really interesting, but this time they pushed it to the absolute limit. If they go further, idk if i'll still like it.
I think objectively speaking it is more of a one time experience than a replay-able song, the 'chorus' and heavy parts are great, and the outro gives heavy "Tonight The World Dies" vibes. but that opening vocal effect is shit, and that "build" part should've been much shorter, or completely removed.
I don't blame people for disliking it, but you've gotta respect them for doing something no one else would dare to do.

unique doesn't always mean good, but this is boundary pushing in a weird way. this isn't radio hit rewritten trash, this is an attempt at cool art. I think this is meant to be seen as an experience. I really just like the creativity. Wouldn't put it on a playlist.

Listened twice because I had to digest. Thanks to bands not continuing the cycle of generic easy to predict shit. Avenged has always been experimental. If you haven’t been a fan, you probably won’t like it as far as new music from them goes. But the people who listen to a Avenged Sevenfold and hope and expect for something new are completely satisfied. When you wait for a new Avenged Sevenfold album and you listen to it for the first time, never expect it to sound like the last album and at least point out the musicality and the ability to make things that maybe you don’t like are being done in a cohesive, but not traditional manner.

I kind of discord of you when you say that who are listen to this song a lot of times to like it is because they love the band bla bla bla. I mean probably some people are doing it but the thing is music is between a lot of stuffs reconize and understand standards and when we can not do that we have the feeling that it's weird. In my case I had to listen to this song a lot of times because it was the time that I needed to understand this standard because, I think we all agree this, this is not a normal song, it's difficult to understand what's going on even to the best musicians. But once you get there this song becomes insane of good. Of course even doing it people may not like it and that's ok but I recomend you to listen to this some more times with your mind open and trying to reconize the standard

Good reaction! Really interesting to hear your opinion but I personally don't think you can tell people what they like or not. Maybe some people lie that they like a song because they want to feel like a "real fan" or whatever, but if someone needs to listen to a song 1000 times to like it, I think their opinion still matters.

    • @WatchSoup
      @WatchSoup Рік тому +2

Exactly, weird to try and say how people feel about liking a song just because they listened to it multiple times before forming their opinion. If anything it's a much more grounded opinion because that person took the time to really take in the music.

IDK, I like the song but I like Mr. Bungle too. People can change on music first when I heard Annihilator Never, Neverland I didnt like it because the the vocals, there was something in the music and after a few times i got really into that album. Back then we dont have youtube or spotify or even internet to instantly change what are you want to listen. We got tapes and shit. So yea I think people can hear it differently after a few times or find something in it why they start to like it.

I really like this song. It feels somewhat experimental, and at the same time has a lot of older A7X elements to it. But the thing that makes it bad for most people is probably that the song feels disjointed. There is not enough music to bridge the different parts of the song, and it makes the listening experience a bit harsh. It probably would have been better if the song either was longer and had more development/better arrangement, or it scrapped some parts of the song to develop more of 1 or 2 of the different parts. But I don't know that much about music production, and only primarily listen to music. And I think that all the parts of this song has a lot of merit, even the refrain(the more/build sections).

It sucks that insane avenged sevenfold fans have, in turn, created insane anti avenged sevenfold haters, and there's not a whole lot of room in between. So, unfortunately, there's an abundance of people who just won't give the band a chance purely because of a toxic fanbase. Some people aren't ready to accept anything but RIFFS in their metal music, and whether or not it's intriguing or something cool or different, it's immediately disregarded because of the stigma that's attached to avanged sevenfold. It's really a bummer because in a perfect world, I think everyone would dig this stuff without the aforementioned stigma associated with the band. Whether or not you mean to, you're feeding the hate side by calling it cringe and weird.
