The SA acting like you could never afford a certain item and if they know you are the kind of person with a strong ego/something to prove you/easily offended, you end up buying the item so you 'can prove them wrong' and prove that you are rich/capable. For me and other budget shoppers, the big sales especially right before the gift-giving holidays! And the free shipping after a certain amount. Used to be free shipping after $35-50 but now I see more $75-100.
I pray for the day women all over the world say 'No thank you' to all these ridiculous overpriced items! You watch them squirm and bring the prices down!
TBH I think it's already happening, which is why Caitlin has timed her selling out of much of her collection so well. The times are becoming much more serious, they just are.
I wouldn’t even call it a white lie, I would call it a full on manipulation tactic. 1. She becomes convinced that the only reason someone hasn’t come in and snatched this very desirable bag is because it’s been on hold for her, and so this activates the scarcity mindset 2. She develops confidence in the sales associate since he apparently knows his stuff and has seen these buying patterns before. It creates the illusion that he is very experienced. 3. She develops trust in him and affinity towards him because he did this for her, and she will likely feel flattered and special. 4. She then feels a sense of obligation to purchase the bag since she has further inquired about it. She believes the associate has gone out of their way and possibly lost the opportunity to sell to someone else in order to reserve it for her, so this can invoke a small sense of guilt and she is more likely to buy at this point
This year I paid off all my debt after struggling with it and bad shopping habits I’ve had since high school. Part of my mantra has been “there will always be more.” THERE WILL ALWAYS BE MORE. Literally. There will always be one more “it” item, one more beautiful bag, one more whatever. There will always be more. I have to remind myself of that all the time because even if I miss getting one thing (or in my case a whole year of things), there’s always going to be more! I don’t need to buy everything out of fear that I’m missing something. You’re totally right about the myth of scarcity. Brands aren’t suddenly not going to have stock. There’s always going to be more! (Lol have I said that enough?)
Years ago in Chanel an SA said the floor model was the last one available. When I said I didn’t want the floor model he magically had 3 in stock 😒 Left such a bad impression that I never did get the bag.
Great video! I’ve noticed now when browsing online some stores will tell you how many people are currently looking at the item, how many have added to cart and how many are left. Definitely makes you feel like you need to hurry up and purchase. Got me a few times.
yup and on ebay some chinese sellers always have LAST ONE but it's always on sale after you order it again. jcp lets you know when stock's low. Only 9 left but sometimes they sell out before the website updates.
At the opposite end of the spectrum, I am an op shopping 'addict', I think other countries call it thrifting. But almost everything is the only opportunity to buy that thing in an op shop because it depends on what is donated. So if you see something you like you 'need' to buy it.
The markup on those "big label" designer bags is getting known to be not for quality or exclusivity, but for "whatever the market will bear" especially since the pandemic. I agree with you that the sales associate at Chanel was telling your friend a little white lie to build a relationship and gain her appreciation and trust. I wouldn't waste my money on bags like that because 1) they are just asking to be stolen and 2) my limited financial resources are better spent elsewhere.
This video has really triggered me haha. I'll never forget when I moved to Sydney from the UK and I was having major visa issues, no income and I was inbetween jobs. I went to Gucci and saw a backpack that I had to have. I spoke to the sales associate and I was told it was the only one in Australia. I bought it there and then. I went another 2 months before I could start working and In that time I had friends borrowing l money and I fell into areas with my rent. ALL FOR A GUCCI BAG! Within a few weeks not only did Gucci have the backpack back in stock there was a whole line of bags and clothing to match! I can't believe how much I fell for the "limited edition" "rare" comment and I fall for it every time. That's actually THE ONLY time I end up buying a bag is when I'm told I can't get it again. 😵💫😵💫. If you truly want “unique” and “rare” find artisans that will design/ customize item only for you. That’s the only way, everything else is mass production with maybe 0.1% Still being handmade but the design is still replicated a thousand times

Fashion retailers really play up the whole FOMO thing!! The thing is, when everyone has the new IT bag, it's not special anymore! I would be sick to spend $7000 on a bag that goes out of trend so quickly! I spent $4000 Canadian on a classic LV bag, and I hardly wear it because I'm scared it will get wet, damaged or stolen. I think the SA put the bag on hold, but that he would have sold it to the first person who asked for it, because that's the nature of the game!
My thought it that the 'put on hold' was just a sales tactic. It sounds like a way to get someone to think you care about them, thus helping develop that SA-customer relationship.
I think the design bags look nice but I can't bring myself to spend thousand and thousand in a handbag..... as most the time, I use the Lululemon belt bag 😆which is more than enough for what I usually do. I do agree with you regarding the luxury brands to be solely focus on profit and the creativity is non existent so for this reason the brands are releasing old models with minor changes.

The elgance , integrity and culture of having a relationship with an SA of your favorite brand is a relic of an era that is gone now. It's the era of creepy fake-integrity and vermail culture. The whole thing is vermail and it quickly detiriorates into somehting you can no longer trust or enjoy.
he could have put it on hold and if someone else wanted to buy it, he would have called your friend to let her know. he wins either way. your friend accepts to buy and is thrilled, or declines and is thrilled he asked. the other person will respect that it has been spoken for and will feel lucky to buy if it's declined, and thanful to reserve in advance if she misses this opportunity. fomo works both ways and always benefits the seller.
He wouldn't have made the other person wait while he contacted Caitlin's friend. What if he couldn't get in touch, the client is waiting there willing to part with cash? No it's all just lies. They try to make you feel like they're your best friend.

6:30 probably it was not lie. The first one was a trial edition. Then Fendi saw high demand and decided that people want more alike bags and now they did it a regular collection with many colours. Exclusivity can not be reached with a brand that has 1000+ stores on the whole 6 сontinents. Has Fendi already opened a store in Antarctica?
Example 3, the sales person knows how to emotionally manipulate customers for commission. That's it. It happens in cheaper stores to a lesser extent because they have a less personal relationship with customers. He put it on hold for whichever of his customers bought it first. When I worked at Mango, there were affluent regulars who would easily buy copious amounts of clothes. Sales staff would purposely show them items from the back-store and chat them up, shortly after, those customers were on a first name basis with whoever sold them a bulk of clothes. From then on, that was their commision ticket and there were fights to be had if anyone else approached said customer. It's a sales tactic.
I hate the pressure limited editions and scarcity put on people in the first place, but to call something limited edition or the last one when it’s not just to take advantage of that is even worse! I actually think employees shouldn’t have to pay at all for clothes up to a certain point since their opinions are often valued by customers and the brands want them to wear their clothing as an employee, so they should provide it for free like a uniform. But I still think that employee discounts affect the judgment of salespeople and can end up manipulating consumers. I don’t think the employees do this on purpose!! But it’s easier to think something is great when you’re not paying as much for it. And if you always get a discount at one store, you’re way less likely to shop elsewhere so you don’t have as much to compare with either. This probably varies from store to store, and idk if it applies outside of cheaper fast fashion, but I have definitely noticed it!
I think, that that sales person felt that special affection that your friend has with that bag. So he was feeling she will come back to buy it. The rest is unimportant. The worst trick to sell is when sales associate lies:"It looks so beauuuutiful on you!" But in fact it is not. That's the most upsetting
I'm a realist, and I think there's a chance that the sales associate just wasn't showing that bag to other customers AND no one was asking for it. People are particular with bright pops of color, and it may not have suited other patrons. Not to mention, in Sophie Shohet's videos, Chanel is always empty. "Hold" may be a strong word, but I couldn't tell you unless I was there
I’m almost 95% sure that he understood from her reaction to the bag that she would return, so to prevent someone else from selling it, he put it aside, under the pretext that she asked him about it if another buyer appeared with him, then he would sell 100%, but if another manager appeared, then he could manipulate him to wait for your friend
I agree. He took it out of circulation so that he could sell it and get the commission, not another SA. If your friend came back, great. If she didn’t, he had a secret bag for a couple of days, to pull out of the back for his next likely buyer. Would love to know what former SAs think.
Hello! You look great in this video! Now that I’ve gotten that out of the way…😂 No way did that SA put that bag on hold, and if he did, he will probably become the least successful SA in history. Who would remove stock because he had a “feeling” about a complete stranger? Nope, didn’t happen. Also, when did it become the norm to want to be besties with an SA? I’ve seen videos about how to address an SA, how to dress to impress an SA, how to pay off the mortgage of an SA (ok, I made that one up). Sorry, but fostering a fake friendship to get a bag just isn’t something I’m going to do. Now, if I meet an SA and click with them, I will always seek them out and a friendship may develop, but let’s keep it in perspective.
Great video Caitlin :) - I appreciate ur videos as of late. I am trying to only purchase bags a few times a year that fill gaps in my wardrobe as well as just clothes too. Recently purchased an LV bag that is functional for winter time ❄️ and such instead of the “it” bag they were telling me they never have in stock aka the new mini neverfull. I love bags always will but having a useless collection no longer interests me. I want to be able to use my things all season (for most part if appropriate) and not be afraid and have a few special night out bags etc. I have SA’s txting me weekly and have said I will be in touch if I want to shop but thank you for the heads up. It’s a hard circle to get out of but knowing I’ll actually use this new bag(bday gift) makes me excited cuz it won’t sit there. That absolutely was a tactic used. No way Chanel put on hold a bag just in case a feeling lol. I am a half full kinda gal but lately I am a realist more n more with life in general. There’s no way he put that bag on hold, why put a bag on hold if your friend didn’t ask him to? It just didn’t sell & it was something to say, I think we’ve heard it all by now. I completely agree you, there’s no exclusivity anymore, these items are everywhere (both real & fake). I’d rather purchase a beautiful handmade item from a small family business or sole trader, just feels better. And you’re more than likely going to be the only person wearing/ using/ carrying that particular item at the next social event you attend. My friend & I like to sit at one of the upstairs bars (with a cocktail or two) in the Queen Street Mall in Brisbane & bag watch, designer bags (or knock offs) are everywhere in cities.
When I bought my prada re-edition bag back in 2019 when they first became available, I was told that it was very limited edition re edition launch! Now of course they still sell the re-edition bags in loads of colours (at almost double the price I purchased at in 2019!).

Plus hijacking your frontal lobal cortex with alcohol is also very manipulative as is telling you that you're "having the ultimate luxury experience" but you actually you pay with the colossal prices! Just buy a bottle of Bolle, or Verve Cliquot or similar it's a lot cheaper than going into hock for $8k! BUT I'm also very concerned at the undifferentiated level of addiction going on especially influencers who get half tanked, meeting up with their influencer friends in a shop for a high powered luxury experience and then finding in the collective madness they've overspent. That's hardly surprising It's pernicious. IMO. A lot imagine that drinking champagne in a well lit shop with bags on display is the ultimate luxury experience ....but is it? Alcohol is a huge cancer risk and feeds into loss of restraint and nobody talks about it. If nothing else, try taking an alcohol break at the same time as going on a no buy few months and you'll see what a crucial role the alcohol has in forming the supposed friendships and fuelling the buying. I'm very cynical at the whole thing, and don't do Instagram. I have an account but stay away from handbags and fashion in there and hardly ever there anyway.
The entire ruse of this thing, the reason people pay thousands of dollars for a bag is that they sell the glamour and high-class lifestyle associated with the brand but idk about you but if someone gifted me a chanel classic flap bag and I started carrying it around that doesn't change the fact I went to a public high school in a low income area of Sydney and it certainly doesn't change my income level. But most people certainly act like getting a chanel bag will be complete fulfillment of their lives and make them high class and 'old money'🤢. Better to put that money into their superannuation or salary sacrificing or investments property/ETFs, then you can actually afford to go on holidays to Europe, get etiquette lessons, afford organic/healthy food, better and large housing environments in prime locations, and then you can have a high-class lifestyle without Chanel.
Sad to say this, but having a nice bag can be an ice breaker to start conversations, make women feel good and deserving of more than bare minimum while dating ( it is signaling im not for free vibes, i need to be vined and dined ++) and it could get you access to be in social rich circle until they get to know more about you...but that might be the time you need to get contacts that could propell your career that further your chance to get that bag.

I have never liked luxury brands. I don’t have the money for them so I just never developed the taste for them. Also, I don’t like that everyone carries those brands. I enjoy finding smaller brands that are high quality but appropriately priced for what they are. For me, I used to always get sucked in by the special sales that happen this time of year. Now, as a minimalist and not wanting to have any clutter in my home, I am much more careful about what I buy and don’t really pay much attention to them anymore. Here in my area in US the bait is," Its the last one in the Company". Believe me I fell for that one in the beginning of my shopping history. The other I realized, I have stepped back buying buying, and im being more particular and the SAs now dont text me as often as before, maybe they touch base once every couple of weeks, when before was every other day. I think in my case I gain weight at a certain pace after coming back from a starve - from Brazzers and Dallas Film trying to traffick me. It sometimes gets a little out of hand, but I am keeping all the sizes.
This sounds sooo familiar: a few months back I went to LV store to check out a scarf I saw online. Guess what? They only had one in store (it's always available online though). I also asked to see alma bb in epi, just the regular one but I was showed the LIMITED EDITION guitar strap that's supposed to be there for a very limited time. You can still order it online in case anyone's interested ;)
I have never tried to foster the SA relationship. I go in, have a smile and pleasantries to the SA who is “next up” and gets assigned to me. I have a look around, and before I know it, the SAs switch around and I am with the one who sold me a bag previously. To me, they all will perform the same functions for you if they want to sell you something or build their own clientele. The whole SA role is for their benefit, not yours.
I don't even understand the concept of "putting something on hold" in that scenario. Even if the SA lied about it being the only bag in stock, wouldn't you at least need a name and number to follow up with someone? If your friend showed up days later, would he have said, "Oh, you came back. I kept the bag you looked at last week on hold for you!" It's all a bit sus.

I would have been livid if a sales associate told me what she told your friend. That is straight up unethical manipulation to get someone to drop 7k. I once had a sales associate in a jewllery store ask me if I had Afterpay. I was super mad and uncomfortable, made a formal complaint and went out of my way to get the item at a differnt store so he wouldnt get comission. This sales associate assumed because I'm young that I dont have money to spend in the store, gave me all these payment options when I never asked or event hinted at it being an issue/concern.
It doesn't make sense to make a really purchase-worthy bag an exclusive unless you handle it the way Hermes sells Birkin bags. You can't just say it's exclusive, you have to make it so. Sweating it out for a month or two usually reveals the truth.
This is going to sound messed up, but I sometimes like how fast-fashion just drops a collection and there's only a certain amount and when it's gone it's gone and the FOMO panic is not really used as a marketing point (partly because who can claim such a bulk quantity is going to go fast). It sounds weird, but I do appreciate it when companies don't try to pull that card because we know and they know that they get their profit once it all sells and if it's a popular item then it will just sell without gimmicks. Maybe that's something we need to ask more; why do certain products seem to "need" gimmick marketing to sell you on it? Why is it that designers like Elieen Fisher (modern-minimal-loose cut clothing for 150 - 300 usd) can just release seasonal collections and they just sell, but a 3k handbag needs a gimmick?
I don't buy that Chanel SA story about putting the bag away for your friend for a second! I am sure that they have targets to work to and who is going to lose a sale from someone else because "maybe" someone else would return for the bag? That makes zero business sense. Your friend could have taken weeks or months to come to a decision. To pay that money for a bag that isn't even leather is enough of a con! Im so glad that I have never been into the Chanel aesthetic.
1000% that Chanel s/a not put the bag on hold for your friend. It was smart on his behalf, though . Additionally, I know someone who sells cars for BMW and he does the exact same thing and I will say this model in electric is Limited edition with the red interior or whatever we only have one in Canada, etc. lies lies, lies, or if someone calls to ask about a car he’ll say oh no I think it’s sold. Let me check for you though …. (knowing full well it’s sitting on the showroom floor) … They say things like prices are going up next year etc. it’s just sales 101 but sneaky nevertheless! think these tactics are transferrable so buyer beware on all accounts !
If your friend really thinks that sales associate was being genuine about putting “The only Chanel bag of its kind” on hold for her without even her asking, then she’s beyond naive and needs to correct this type of mentality IMMEDIATELY because she is easy prey. I am not trying to come across as rude but in stern earnest this needs to be fixed. I believe it was the serial killer Tex Bundy who preyed on women with such a naive mentality. Yes this is an extreme example, but regardless she needs to think more like you in the sense of being more skeptical. It bothers me to hear tragic things happening to good people because there are assholes in the world that won’t bat an eyelash at taking advantage of someone.

I call BS, he wasn't holding that bag for her. You have said Australia have minimal stock, so why would he hold it this one item for someone who he has no SA/Customer relationship with yet. Either it's BS or they had five of these bags in stock. I also like what you said 'Do you think he told her this white lie to build trust'. Which says it all really - I'm going to lie to that women, so she trusts me 😄. We wouldn't accept that in a love relationship, so it shouldn't be acceptable it a SA/Customer relationship.
Well, funny how Chanel tries to justify the price increase- one of over 50% and it was outrageous before, apparently because of the materials, I wonder and this goes for the plastic too, and ofc there is this brand that have built the empire out of the plastic, I will put the initials that happens to be a logo, LV, and I wonder, because I was told that LV has the highest quality French artisanal plastic. The design houses con women into believing they are your special friends, that only they get you and they see you as worthy. This is so seductive. I mean, the champagne special VIP treatment? The frontal cortex gets hijacked by the alcohol and you give in to impulse. No wonder the fashion houses love to treat you to champers...it works for them! Save buying the bag, and buy yourself the champers. Win/win. I totally agree that it was not a genuine interaction for the very obvious reason you stated, he would not pass an opportunity to sell it to a third party. They try to let you believe you're being specially treated. I hate it all TBH because most of the time overspending is some kind of displacement of an emotional need that's unexpressed and unresolved. JIMO. I never feel guilty about trying a bag on and not buying it, because it's alll just a game. I test myself to see how much I really want a bag and nearly always I don't need it that much at all. Somehow I get it out of my system by watching and reflecting and also reminding myself what bags I already have which are under used. That one always saves me and my wallet. Oh...yeah I do need a new wallet but I will get by with what I have: a black quilted Bally long purse that is beautifully made, just the piping is looking a bit sad. But I will cope...lol!

At the opposite end of the spectrum, I am an op shopping 'addict', I think other countries call it thrifting. But almost everything is the only opportunity to buy that thing in an op shop because it depends on what is donated. So if you see something you like you 'need' to buy it.

The markup on those "big label" designer bags is getting known to be not for quality or exclusivity, but for "whatever the market will bear" especially since the pandemic. I agree with you that the sales associate at Chanel was telling your friend a little white lie to build a relationship and gain her appreciation and trust. I wouldn't waste my money on bags like that because 1) they are just asking to be stolen and 2) my limited financial resources are better spent elsewhere.
This video has really triggered me haha. I'll never forget when I moved to Sydney from the UK and I was having major visa issues, no income and I was inbetween jobs. I went to Gucci and saw a backpack that I had to have. I spoke to the sales associate and I was told it was the only one in Australia. I bought it there and then. I went another 2 months before I could start working and In that time I had friends borrowing l money and I fell into areas with my rent. ALL FOR A GUCCI BAG! Within a few weeks not only did Gucci have the backpack back in stock there was a whole line of bags and clothing to match! I can't believe how much I fell for the "limited edition" "rare" comment and I fall for it every time. That's actually THE ONLY time I end up buying a bag is when I'm told I can't get it again. 😵💫😵💫. Thanks for sharing this, I am a NIGHTMARE with all the collabs and I've had to reach a point where I will only buy another bag of another bag dies or I sell one.

Fashion retailers really play up the whole FOMO thing!! The thing is, when everyone has the new IT bag, it's not special anymore! I would be sick to spend $7000 on a bag that goes out of trend so quickly! I spent $4000 Canadian on a classic LV bag, and I hardly wear it because I'm scared it will get wet, damaged or stolen. I think the SA put the bag on hold, but that he would have sold it to the first person who asked for it, because that's the nature of the game!

he could have put it on hold and if someone else wanted to buy it, he would have called your friend to let her know. he wins either way. your friend accepts to buy and is thrilled, or declines and is thrilled he asked. the other person will respect that it has been spoken for and will feel lucky to buy if it's declined, and thanful to reserve in advance if she misses this opportunity. fomo works both ways and always benefits the seller.
He wouldn't have made the other person wait while he contacted Caitlin's friend. What if he couldn't get in touch, the client is waiting there willing to part with cash? No it's all just lies. They try to make you feel like they're your best friend.

Example 3, the sales person knows how to emotionally manipulate customers for commission. That's it. It happens in cheaper stores to a lesser extent because they have a less personal relationship with customers. He put it on hold for whichever of his customers bought it first.
When I worked at Mango, there were affluent regulars who would easily buy copious amounts of clothes. Sales staff would purposely show them items from the back-store and chat them up, shortly after, those customers were on a first name basis with whoever sold them a bulk of clothes. From then on, that was their commision ticket and there were fights to be had if anyone else approached said customer. It's a sales tactic.

I hate the pressure limited editions and scarcity put on people in the first place, but to call something limited edition or the last one when it’s not just to take advantage of that is even worse! I actually think employees shouldn’t have to pay at all for clothes up to a certain point since their opinions are often valued by customers and the brands want them to wear their clothing as an employee, so they should provide it for free like a uniform. But I still think that employee discounts affect the judgment of salespeople and can end up manipulating consumers. I don’t think the employees do this on purpose!! But it’s easier to think something is great when you’re not paying as much for it. And if you always get a discount at one store, you’re way less likely to shop elsewhere so you don’t have as much to compare with either. This probably varies from store to store, and idk if it applies outside of cheaper fast fashion, but I have definitely noticed it!
I think, that that sales person felt that special affection that your friend has with that bag. So he was feeling she will come back to buy it. The rest is unimportant. The worst trick to sell is when sales associate lies:"It looks so beauuuutiful on you!" But in fact it is not. That's the most upsetting
I'm a realist, and I think there's a chance that the sales associate just wasn't showing that bag to other customers AND no one was asking for it. People are particular with bright pops of color, and it may not have suited other patrons. Not to mention, in Sophie Shohet's videos, Chanel is always empty. "Hold" may be a strong word, but I couldn't tell you unless I was there

Hello! You look great in this video! Now that I’ve gotten that out of the way…😂 No way did that SA put that bag on hold, and if he did, he will probably become the least successful SA in history. Who would remove stock because he had a “feeling” about a complete stranger? Nope, didn’t happen. Also, when did it become the norm to want to be besties with an SA? I’ve seen videos about how to address an SA, how to dress to impress an SA, how to pay off the mortgage of an SA (ok, I made that one up). Sorry, but fostering a fake friendship to get a bag just isn’t something I’m going to do. Now, if I meet an SA and click with them, I will always seek them out and a friendship may develop, but let’s keep it in perspective.

Recently purchased an LV bag that is functional for winter time ❄️ and such instead of the “it” bag they were telling me they never have in stock aka the new mini neverfull. I love bags always will but having a useless collection no longer interests me. I want to be able to use my things all season (for most part if appropriate) and not be afraid and have a few special night out bags etc. I have SA’s txting me weekly and have said I will be in touch if I want to shop but thank you for the heads up. It’s a hard circle to get out of but knowing I’ll actually use this new bag(bday gift) makes me excited cuz it won’t sit there.

I completely agree you, there’s no exclusivity anymore, these items are everywhere (both real & fake). I’d rather purchase a beautiful handmade item from a small family business or sole trader, just feels better. And you’re more than likely going to be the only person wearing/ using/ carrying that particular item at the next social event you attend. My friend & I like to sit at one of the upstairs bars (with a cocktail or two) in the Queen Street Mall in Brisbane & bag watch, designer bags (or knock offs) are everywhere in cities.

When I bought my prada re-edition bag back in 2019 when they first became available, I was told that it was very limited edition re edition launch! Now of course they still sell the re-edition bags in loads of colours (at almost double the price I purchased at in 2019!).

BUT I'm also very concerned at the undifferentiated level of addiction going on especially influencers who get half tanked, meeting up with their influencer friends in a shop for a high powered luxury experience and then finding in the collective madness they've overspent. That's hardly surprising It's pernicious. IMO. A lot imagine that drinking champagne in a well lit shop with bags on display is the ultimate luxury experience ....but is it? Alcohol is a huge cancer risk and feeds into loss of restraint and nobody talks about it. If nothing else, try taking an alcohol break at the same time as going on a no buy few months and you'll see what a crucial role the alcohol has in forming the supposed friendships and fuelling the buying. I'm very cynical at the whole thing, and don't do Instagram. I have an account but stay away from handbags and fashion in there and hardly ever there anyway.
The entire ruse of this thing, the reason people pay thousands of dollars for a bag is that they sell the glamour and high-class lifestyle associated with the brand but idk about you but if someone gifted me a chanel classic flap bag and I started carrying it around that doesn't change the fact I went to a public high school in a low income area of Sydney and it certainly doesn't change my income level. But most people certainly act like getting a chanel bag will be complete fulfillment of their lives and make them high class and 'old money'🤢. Better to put that money into their superannuation or salary sacrificing or investments property/ETFs, then you can actually afford to go on holidays to Europe, get etiquette lessons, afford organic/healthy food, better and large housing environments in prime locations, and then you can have a high-class lifestyle without Chanel.
Sad to say this, but having a nice bag can be an ice breaker to start conversations, make women feel good and deserving of more than bare minimum while dating ( it is signaling im not for free vibes, i need to be vined and dined ++) and it could get you access to be in social rich circle until they get to know more about you...but that might be the time you need to get contacts that could propell your career that further your chance to get that bag.

I have never liked luxury brands. I don’t have the money for them so I just never developed the taste for them. Also, I don’t like that everyone carries those brands. I enjoy finding smaller brands that are high quality but appropriately priced for what they are. For me, I used to always get sucked in by the special sales that happen this time of year. Now, as a minimalist and not wanting to have any clutter in my home, I am much more careful about what I buy and don’t really pay much attention to them anymore. Here in my area in US the bait is," Its the last one in the Company". Believe me I fell for that one in the beginning of my shopping history. The other I realized, I have stepped back buying buying, and im being more particular and the SAs now dont text me as often as before, maybe they touch base once every couple of weeks, when before was every other day. Ha, you dont buy, they dont love you anymore.

I have never tried to foster the SA relationship. I go in, have a smile and pleasantries to the SA who is “next up” and gets assigned to me. I have a look around, and before I know it, the SAs switch around and I am with the one who sold me a bag previously. To me, they all will perform the same functions for you if they want to sell you something or build their own clientele. The whole SA role is for their benefit, not yours.

Even if the SA lied about it being the only bag in stock, wouldn't you at least need a name and number to follow up with someone? If your friend showed up days later, would he have said, "Oh, you came back. I kept the bag you looked at last week on hold for you!"

I would have been livid if a sales associate told me what she told your friend. That is straight up unethical manipulation to get someone to drop 7k.
I once had a sales associate in a jewllery store ask me if I had Afterpay. I was super mad and uncomfortable, made a formal complaint and went out of my way to get the item at a differnt store so he wouldnt get comission. This sales associate assumed because I'm young that I dont have money to spend in the store, gave me all these payment options when I never asked or event hinted at it being an issue/concern.
It doesn't make sense to make a really purchase-worthy bag an exclusive unless you handle it the way Hermes sells Birkin bags. You can't just say it's exclusive, you have to make it so. Sweating it out for a month or two usually reveals the truth.

This is going to sound messed up, but I sometimes like how fast-fashion just drops a collection and there's only a certain amount and when it's gone it's gone and the FOMO panic is not really used as a marketing point (partly because who can claim such a bulk quantity is going to go fast). It sounds weird, but I do appreciate it when companies don't try to pull that card because we know and they know that they get their profit once it all sells and if it's a popular item then it will just sell without gimmicks. Maybe that's something we need to ask more; why do certain products seem to "need" gimmick marketing to sell you on it? Why is it that designers like Elieen Fisher (modern-minimal-loose cut clothing for 150 - 300 usd) can just release seasonal collections and they just sell, but a 3k handbag needs a gimmick?

I am sure that they have targets to work to and who is going to lose a sale from someone else because "maybe" someone else would return for the bag? That makes zero business sense. Your friend could have taken weeks or months to come to a decision. To pay that money for a bag that isn't even leather is enough of a con! If your friend really thinks that sales associate was being genuine about putting “The only Chanel bag of its kind” on hold for her without even her asking, then she’s beyond naive and needs to correct this type of mentality IMMEDIATELY because she is easy prey. I am not trying to come across as rude but in stern earnest this needs to be fixed. I believe it was the serial killer Tex Bundy who preyed on women with such a naive mentality. Yes this is an extreme example, but regardless she needs to think more like you in the sense of being more skeptical. Its not just the fomo for me its the price increases. Was gonna get the prada reedition crystal when it was £1250 but was waiting to get it as a birthday present to myself. I call BS, he wasn't holding that bag for her. You have said Australia have minimal stock, so why would he hold it this one item for someone who he has no SA/Customer relationship with yet. Well, funny how Chanel tries to justify the price increase- one of over 50% and it was outrageous before, apparently because of the materials, I wonder and this goes for the plastic too, and ofc there is this brand that have built the empire out of the plastic, I will put the initials that happens to be a logo, LV, and I wonder, because I was told that LV has the highest quality French artisanal plastic. So, I am really curious about that Chanel non leather material of 7,000 that must be some other highest quality French artisan other thing, as plastic is taken already, or now they are competing in the production of most artisanal and the highest quality of the - plastic 😂

It's very sad that people fall prey to this. No happy, sane person would spend thousands of dollars on a purse. I'm glad you've found your way out of this and love the content you're making now.
The design houses con women into believing they are your special friends, that only they get you and they see you as worthy.
This is so seductive. I mean, the champagne special VIP treatment? The frontal cortex gets hijacked by the alcohol and you give in to impulse. No wonder the fashion houses love to treat you to champers...it works for them!

I totally agree that it was not a genuine interaction for the very obvious reason you stated, he would not pass an opportunity to sell it to a third party. They try to let you believe you're being specially treated. I hate it all TBH because most of the time overspending is some kind of displacement of an emotional need that's unexpressed and unresolved. JIMO.
I never feel guilty about trying a bag on and not buying it, because it's alll just a game. I test myself to see how much I really want a bag and nearly always I don't need it that much at all. Somehow I get it out of my system by watching and reflecting and also reminding myself what bags I already have which are under used. That one always saves me and my wallet.
Oh...yeah I do need a new wallet but I will get by with what I have: a black quilted Bally long purse that is beautifully made, just the piping is looking a bit sad. But I will cope...lol!
