    Keep going and do a V16. The sound of a V16 is utterly sublime. Cross plane V8's are good, V12's well they just sound like a couple of inline 6s really, but a V16 has this inimitable quality - brutal, guttural, visceral and most of all menacing.

    • @Desmouffe

      As far as I know a flatplane V8 is also easy to balance, when the crankpins evens out eachother. A crossplane V8 needs more balancing. Thats what I have read, but I´m just a happy rookie. I made a flatplane crank and only removed the weight of the pistons, pins and the weight of little end of the pushrod.

    • @Desmouffe
      @Desmouffe  Рік тому +5

      I had problem with the carburetor. It flooded and gas pour in to the front cylinders. I also had ignition problems so I ran it quite some time on the starter. When it started the front cylinders where washed cleen from oil and after ca 10 sek it stopped. Only one cylinder damaged. The cooling is no problem for now. I run it only minutes and after I can hold my hand on the cylinders. In the future I will fix something.

    • @Initial_Gopnik
      @Initial_Gopnik Рік тому +2

      @@Desmouffe Have you thought of slightly opening the oil channels behind the oil control ring, they can be pretty rough sometimes on small engines, and extra lubrication on the cylinder walls for the inboard cylinders on each bank would be beneficial as those are always going to see the most heat if you do plan on running it for an extended period of time, perhaps you can come up with an oil squirter that can spray directly into the underside of the piston, for a man of your caliber I have no doubt you could scale this hurdle.

    • @Desmouffe

      @johnalexander4356 Рік тому +1

      @@Initial_Gopnik I was also thinking of the issue of cylinder lubrication since those were designed as horizontal and splash lubed. Now standing up there isn't any oil splashing on the cylinder. And there isn't forced air cooling now. I know you're only doing short runs, but it won't take long to heat up. It might help to mix a little 2-stroke oil into your fuel.

    Did you find the cause of why the original piston seized?

    • @Desmouffe
      @Desmouffe  Рік тому +1

      It was a series of very unfortunate things. When I was working on the pulley change the tractor was jacked up in the rear. I saw a little puddle on the floor but didn't do anything about it fist. It was petrol. The carburetor was flooding despite it was placed higher than the petroltank. The ventilation hole on the fueltank was clogged so when the temprature in my workshop was rising a pressure was created. Since the tractor was jacked up the petrol followed the intake manifold until the last cylinder and there it found it's way down in the cylinder.
