    Donna's "mm-hmm" at 4:45 is perfect! It's so simple but elevates the scene and her character so well. Love her.

      It's a little less funny knowing multiple state governments are doing exactly that today.

    I mean… so? They’re funny gags. Comedy serves as a way to talk truth to power… so if something is true the only way to exposed it is by making it a joke and it makes you think about the issue rather than ignore it. They’re hilarious.

    It's definitely not a perfect show and has elements that haven't dated brilliantly so I love that Leslie called out the MRAs/anti-feminists for their ignorance and sexism and Leslie and Ben calling out how sexist the Pie Mary was in that episode.

      Genuine question: what do you feel hasn't aged well?

    • @uncreative5766
      @uncreative5766 7 годин тому

      @rubystein I love Parks, but as a born American citizen to immigrants, I never liked the "Tom's parents conceived him in Libya" joke. It just makes me uncomfortable because it reinforces bias that minorities aren't born in America, which leads to people looking down on us and treating us as second class citizens.

    • @delta8126
      @delta8126 4 години тому

      @@uncreative5766 I think you are misunderstanding the joke. The joke actually making fun of the exact stereotype you are talking about, they are making fun of politicians and people who believe that anyone who is not white must be an anchor baby, this is reinforced by the fact that Tom really was in fact conceived in America.

    • @heatherstephenson3559
      @heatherstephenson3559 3 години тому

      @@Rubystein It's aged significantly better than most other sitcoms from that time and people may disagree on certain points but some of the slightly fatphobic parts, the lines about Tom and Libya and some of Tom's kinda sexist comments are the things that come to mind for me but compared to other sitcoms, it's pretty progressive, especially regarding feminism as it calls out the misogynistic councillors and MRAs so I still really like this show.

    there are some parts of parks and recs that have aged terribly, from the incessant bullying of jerry by some of his co-workers (especially tom and april - a large reason why i really hated those characters) to ron swanson essentially being groomed from birth by his first wife!

      Or maybe things that are meant to be comedic should just be treated as comedy. Getting offended by comedy is probably the lamest thing on the planet.

    • @nl5828
      @nl5828 Годину тому

      traditionally comedy always “punched up” to ridicule the oppresser/the establishment, with which i absolutely have no problem.
      the difference here is that the comedy is “punching down” and ridiculing the oppressed, in this case, the bullied co-worker and the s**ually groomed ex-husband! if that makes you laugh, that’s your call, but it does not make my view invalid!
