      Elizabeth Debicki also deserves it, she became Diana like no other actress before. I hope these actors will get some recognition, even if Judi Dench started this "trash The Crown" nonsense, just because she's friends with Camilla and suddenly they got offended... by the truth.

    I think Phillip drew on his own personal experience. He was forced to walk behind the coffin of his beloved older sister and the Nazi government had used the occasion as a huge state event, with cameras and banners everywhere. To Philip, his sister’s funeral, which should have been a private and solemn affair (in his mind) was turned into a spectacle.

    This is perfect. In real life, Charles did mourn for Diana and regret failing her in life. And this scene did a perfect job in capturing that grief and guilt as Charles wanted to hold a public funeral for his ex-wife and pointing out to his parents, mostly his mother, that they need to be the face of a nation for grieving someone who was loved by their entire country.

      Please. It’s all about Image. CHARLES cared about how hard the People would make his Future Reign (and plans with CAMILLA).
      ELIZABETH II was less a grandmother, and more a person protecting the Heirs; as she knew that CHARLES’ reign would likely be shorter than hers.

      I read an article that said King Charles was at odds with Queen Elizabeth regarding Princess Diana's funeral arrangements...and put his foot down regarding a public funeral...whereas the Queen wanted a private one...in my own opinion I think that the unprecedented public grieving for Princess Diana's loss left no choice for Queen Elizabeth in the long run...I still remember the citizens of Great Britain getting upset that the Queen hadn't responded as fast as the people had wished...but I think she did the right thing in ensuring that both Prince William and Prince Harry were to be the priority which is why she felt remaining at Balmoral was best for them...again this is just my own opinion..

    It shouldn't have been about what the British public wanted. It should have been what was the right thing for the boys. Who were still children, and very sheltered ones at that. It's clear that walking behind that coffin has had a lasting traumatic impact on both of them. They were offered up on the sacrificial alter to gain sympathy. And I think Diana would have been appalled.

    • @AnnaBellaChannel
      @AnnaBellaChannel 9 місяців тому +1

      Remember Prince Philip walked behind his sister's coffin in Nazi Germany. Diana's boys had no choice but to walk behind their mother's coffin as they both inline to the throne. Being a senior member of British Royal family means living in goldfish bowl for life from birth.

    • @michelletodd4893
      @michelletodd4893 9 місяців тому +9

      They could have "removed" the boys from walking behind the coffin. Just have Philip, Charles, her brother. The rest was expected by the people. A proper public, royal funeral.

    • @carriew5106
      @carriew5106 9 місяців тому +11

      @@michelletodd4893 I remember that time well. Most people were unhappy that Charles and Philip walked behind the coffin at all. It would have been even worse if they did it without the boys. They were only tolerated for being there because they were there for William and Harry. Remove the boys and remove all reason for them to be walking at all. Charles Spencer wasn't supposed to walk but insisted on it as a blood family representative. But he was against it and argued for it not to happen. He has spoken several times about how he was told repeatedly that the boys wanted to walk and that's the only reason he went through with it.
      It's a complete myth that the British public specifically wanted anyone to walk behind the coffin. What they wanted was a state funeral. What Charles wanted was to not be the bad guy and he used his kids for sympathy and his ex-wifes death as an opportunity.

    To be honest given earlier in the series Philip was the one who gave Charles the talk telling him that the family wanted him to marry Diana whether he wanted to or not and pushed him into it when he was clearly reluctant, not sure he was the one who ought to have been finger wagging him at that moment.
    Really I know that they're some of the most popular moments in the series, Elizabeth and Philip chiding Charles over his marriage, but I could never stomach how horribly hypocritical they were. They famously dug in their heels and insisted to George VI and the political establishment that they wanted to be married and would have no one else, then the second Charles and Anne got into relationships, they firmly shut down any relationship they didn't approve of and pushed them both into marriages neither wanted that would inevitably fail and leave them riddled with scandal.
    They could really be awful parents sometimes.

    The people would've respected the decision of a private funeral. Charles was more concerned about the backlash and used this as an opportunity to gain sympathy.
    Even his own father blames him for the unfortunate outcome. 25 years later and people still blame him for the outcome.

    • @AnnaBellaChannel

      At the time people would not have accepted a private funeral. The UK was at stand still and was not functioning. The public would have felt that Princess Diana's memory was being disrespected and not being honoured. A private funeral would feel like she was being hidden away. If your the Princesss of Wales it means something.

    I can see the necessity of having the funeral in London and on TV. I don't understand the whole walking behind the gun carriage carrying her coffin though. I lost my mother in my 30's, I gave a speech at her funeral, it wasn't easy. If I'd lost her 20 years earlier I really couldn't have done what they did, and it is the kind of 'tradition' if that's what it was, that most people aren't aware of. They could have just stood with the Queen and gone to the service.
