bought this one, till now I have used leatt 3df airfit (but old version with CE level 1). You can feel that Alpi give you more protection but I am wondering if plastic shield will absorb energy as good as 3DF foam. What is more, in Alpi, mesh material is not "skin friendly". If you wear it without any undershirt, it is rough:/ I bought M size (174cm, 70kg) and it fits tight.
Great review! One question tho, did you go a size larger on the jersey to accommodate the armor ? I go with Large for the jersey ( kini) that goes well with a chest plate without shoulders. I was wondering if i have to switch to an XL jersey because of this armour . Thank you !
Do you think this protection jacket would be suitable for women as well? There isn't a version for women yet and I feel like the chest protection is better for men's jacket than for women's because is removable and can be tightened
Been a long time since you review it, after 2 years, do u still recommend this this model? Do u still use it or replaced it with other? Thank you. Keep up with your videos and progression!
They are little bungee cords with tethers on them to hold your neck brace down. Most braces have small clips on the side for the bungee to run over and keep the brace taught
I am split between this and the Leatt 6.5 Protector Jacket. Do you have a pros /cons comparison? I like the slimmer look of the ASBT over the Leatt but the Leatt has the added advantage of the protector and jacket being separate, plus it looks like the Leatt has better protection on the sides. Thanks, liked and subscribed.
As far as I know the Leatt offers more protection particularly around the kidneys. But, it’s bulkier and because it has harder surface I don’t think it is as breathable. They also make a lighter version similar to this one by alpine stars and my wife uses it. She loves it I think it’s called a 3-D air or something. Honestly, I don’t think you can go wrong and I think it’s more about your priorities. I’m willing to sacrifice some protection for breathability and better manoeuvrability and that is why Prefer the alpine stars or the 3-D air but if you want Max protection then go for the hard ones with kidney protection
@@BigIronMoto Thanks good advice. I went for the Leatt 6.5 with jacket, Leatt dual axis shin and knee protection, Trilobite 661Parado jeans, HILLBILLY "FULL FINGER" GLOVES with wristgaurd and Alpine star boots. A low speed faceplant into asphalt on an electric unicycle yesterday and didn't feel a thing.
Why don't most of these have side protection? The only one I see with that is the high end Leatt 6.5, why is that, is side protection not really needed?
I’m not sure. There is some protection but it isn’t as much as the Leatt 6.5. Always a compromise between protection and light / cool. If protection. Is paramount the 6.5 makes the most sense
Great review! Looks like the chest protector is removable via the top/bottom clips. Is the back protector also fully removable? I’m hoping to use the jacket with shoulder/elbow protection only for tame MTB trails and strap the chest/back protector on for the gnarly stuff.
Unfortunately not. I don’t think it would be ideal for mtb. The back protector is permanent and substantial. You could wear it but you might find it a bit restrictive for mtb.
I've been using it while riding my ninja past few months, it's more responsible to wear as apposed to no protection(on hot days), but I feel it would be best to wear a Kevlar/leather jacket over it, weather permitting
Great video! Sorry for the late comment but is the Bionic Tech suitable for riding on the streets? I‘m thinking of wearing this with just a hoodie over it but I wasnt able to find and info on the material. Does it protect me when sliding on asphalt?
Did you wear this two weeks ago at the Chloe's Kingdom XC? (And the previous weekend at Gopher Dunes?) Do you still find it comfortable and not too hot? Thanks!
@@BigIronMoto Thanks! I think I'm going to get one also. I was kind of on the fence between replacing my current gear with that one or the Leatt 3DF AirFit but your feedback and two others have helped me decide on the A-stars.
@@maxlocke1 I think either you are good with. My wife has the Leatt 3DF AirFit and I have to admit, it is very nice. I would say try them both on and see what you think.

Are the seams itchy? I bought the Dainese Rhyolite 2 and the stitching is nasty if you don't wear a base layer. Your helmet looks very loose, do you get a big head when your out riding?
Hi Sir, I am considering to buy this product to wear under my Alpinestar jacket by removing its own protections and couldnt find any info that may work or not.. Did u have a chance to try it under a jacket for adventure ride?
I don't ride ADV bikes so I don't have a very informed opinion on that. However, I wear it under jerseys and it fits fine so I don't see why you could't wear it under a jacket.
I was told that it’s mostly for impact protection, but if you want abrasion resistance you need to wear something else over it. I’m trying to decide on body armor, but it’s a tough decision when you ride a dual sport in adverse weather conditions...
@@airadaimagery692 i`m thinking of getting this to wear under my oldschool leather thick cowhide jacket .. yes i`m past 40 so :D . reason i have that jacket haha
Yes, still wearing it. Probably about 150 hours on it now. Overall, I am really happy with it but where the mesh fabric connects to the back spine armour it is starting to rip. Same with under the arms. Considering how rough I am on my gear, I can't complain. If it can't be fixed, I would likely get the same one again new. It has saved me from some serious injuries for sire.
Not sure. Probably because protection is not really on the thigh area. I wear high end knee braces and boots. I wouldn't want any protection on my thighs or anywhere else on my legs.
Someone said this jacket is ok for crossbike and no good for street bike cause its very veak if you fall ok asphalt at 60miles /hours Im not sure it is right or not
I'm 6'1 185lb lean weight lifter, got an XL. What none of these review videos talk about it that the back protector is WAY to big, irritatingly sticks into your lower back and is very annoying. When you bend it catches the floating chest protector and juts it up into your adam's apple practically choking you. I returned mine immediately.
I guess it fits everyone differently. I am a lot shorter at 5'8 and don't find it digging in my back at all. I still love mine 2 years later. Which one did you end up getting to replace it?
That's true. After wearing it for over a year, the material under the arm pits and back is coming off the armour. I still really like it, but this is a downside of the jacket. I am going to try to stitch it back but it may not work
Nice thorough review! Definitely a good reassurance of buying this. Thanks!

Thanks for the continued updates through the video. How is it holding up?
Ok. Started to disintegrate over a few years. Still wearable though. I moved to the Leatt 3D Air which I like a bit more. Both are great though.
I wonder if this would work with a leather jacket. Say wearing it underneath for the road.
Would give a good level of protection
