    Pete, great video. I’m a former Honda mechanic. Not familiar with V8’s. Bought a78 Camaro Z28 and rebuilding a junk yard 350 to put in it. Thanks for giving me the confidence to rebuild it.

    Man great looking motor, I just reserfaced a new set of edlbrock heads and rehoned all the exhaust valve guides. From factory they require this before install. They are amazing heads after you fix them. They are just slapped together factory corporate push style with no love.
    The love comes from the machine shop get to know your local shop.

    Pete... I'm almost an engine builder thanks to you.
    question... im installing heads on an lt1 95' using gm 10105117 .028 gasket. I notice that the upper part of the gasket has one large triangular shape passage instead of a squarish divided passage... This triangle shape covers the large water passage AND the smaller square opening that goes into the rocker arm bay.... many ppl use these gaskets but that large opening is worrisome the original has a divided partition between the large passage and the open space. Whats up with that????

    • @PetesGarage
      @PetesGarage  3 роки тому

      As long as the gasket does not cover and existing hole or leave a huge open space somewhere it will be fine

  • @propellerhead9197
    @propellerhead9197 5 років тому

    wouldn't it be a good idea to install the heads together alternating heads while working the torque steps. Reasoning being the torque from the bolts slightly warps the block.?

    • @PetesGarage
      @PetesGarage  5 років тому +1

      Well...that is a potential issue. However, the block has a torque plate on it when it's bored and honed to make up for that.

    I installed a new set of Edelbrock Performer heads on my rebuilt 350 and it makes LESS power than the old cast iron heads , it has roller rockers. The compression with the old heads was 145 psi in each cylinder and then 165 psi with the Edelbrocks . Runs smooth idles good just LESS power . I am running an Edelbrock 600 CFM carb unchanged . I do need to get the correct push rod length could this be the problem ?. Could you give me some advice ?

    Hi Pete Thame fur the video. Last night i installed Edelbrock Performer RPM heads on my 327. The instruction sheet said 3 step increments but the final was 65 not 70. The ARP had bolts didn't have a separate torque value. Do you think bumping it up to 70 would be a good idea?

  • @mikefish4450

    Edelbrock E-Street heads say toque to 65 foot lbs. would it matter? I just built my 1986 Corvette engine with the e-street heads and I’m almost at the 500 break in mile mark and the #8 intake valve spring broke into 4 sections, and I noticed that the valve seal was not all the way down on the guide so I looked at the rest of the seals and half of them are not seated . Question. What would cause my spring to explode into 4 sections and the inner spring to break into 3 sections. Need help cause I have to be at the Turkey rod run in Daytona in two weeks and I’m driving it down there from Jacksonville Florida.

    • @PetesGarage
      @PetesGarage  4 роки тому

      The valve seal had nothing to do with it, unless they were positive lock seals. A spring will break if it's crooked, or not right for the cam.

    • @ChielScape
      @ChielScape 6 років тому +1

      ironhorse127 I noticed that too. Especially under the bolt head this is important because the friction there will eat a lot of your torque.

    • @PetesGarage
      @PetesGarage  6 років тому +2

      ironhorse127 No, because the threads are covered with sealant for the coolant. Silicone sealer is a lubricant so adding the Ultra-torque would do nothing.
