the way you carry yourself and speak so articulately gives you such an intelligent demeanor. not relevant to the video but just something i noticed HAHA
Lol I suppose this one of the nicer comments I have received about my eyes! I am visually impaired so my glasses are quite magnified. I mostly get mean comments about it so that’s for saying something nice.
Thank you so much for this video. I never thought I would be a bird dad. I went to a pet store today with the intention of buying a pair of hermit crabs, but I absolutely fell in love with a cockatiel that I met. I knew the moment that he pressed his head against the cage, asking me to pet him, that we were meant for each other. Due to a big purchase earlier in the week, I couldn't afford to pay for him and his essentials outright, so I paid part of it and I will be picking up my little friend at the end of the week. I've already decided to name him Winston. He doesn't know it yet, but he's about to be welcomed into a loving home with a companion for the rest of his life
Such a good review. One of the best I have seen so far. I did subscribe as this lady deserves it. I wonder how to deal with bird droppings on our shoulders? I will be getting my cockateil next week (a hand fed one) and I was just wondering if the droppings were will be an issue if I leave her free to fly everywhere in the house? Can someone help me on this subject?
I have two cocktails in a large aviary outside they are both turning 30 years old this year they are both males and are very healthy they dig in the grass at the bottom of the aviary and are very close to each other I live in Newzealand so the climate suits them perfectly I love watching them flying about lovely pets.
Every future Cockatiel owner needs to see this video. Informative and honest. This gives the exact understanding of what to expect and how to care for your bird. I took some additional notes for our bird's diet. Thank you 😃
@@jyotsnachristi990 we feed twice a day - my video ‘what my conure eats in a day’ which was very recent shows this (the cockatiels get a very similar meal schedule!)
This was the first video I watched when I was looking into getting a bird! I now have a girl cockatiel named willow,I've had her for two years and she an abosulte angel! I took all ur advice and recommendations and she is the happiest girl! Thank u💗
we got 4 parakeets but it didnt really work and now we are trying to sell them but we cant just sell cuz we need to give them to someone who will care and not separate them.
I love everything you said in the first few minutes :: do your research, no matter how many times you read or hear birds are a mess it doesn’t sink in till you’re in it. It’s a revolving cycle of a messssssss 😮dander poop cage linings the floors water bowls your walls lol :: but we love our tiels, so we put up with it.
Thank you so much for this information! My birthday is coming up, and I am currently getting ready to get a cockatiel as my gift. I've taken care of a small sparrow rescue bird for a week, and don't know too much on how to completely take care of a bird. This is really helpful, and I can't thank you enough.
I’m so glad I stumbled upon this video. One of my birds had “night frights” for the first time the other night and I’ve been wondering ever since if I did something wrong. Glad to know it’s not abnormal and that I can do things to try and prevent them from happening. Thanks!
Thank you so much for the info! I would love to have a cocktail one day and I like to keep up on knowledge so that when the time comes I am prepared. Your birds seem so sweet and I can tell that you have created such a beautiful bond with them!
Good to see that these beauties have some issues as well as the wonderful things. Too many people get pets without knowing the tough things and then try to get of them....super great video.
Im a new owner of these Cockatiels so I'm trying my best to learn what is good for them and what is not. And this Video is Really helpful!! ❤️ Thank you ☺️
Omg Hi thanks for reading my comment! My dad actually bought these Cockatiels as a gift for my mom since it was their24th Anniversary! ❤️ And mom always wanted a cockatiel bird
The Last Time I Had a Cockatiel on my Shoulder Was When I Went to a Butter Fly 🦋 Farm With One of My Friends and There Were Cockatiels There One of Them Landed on Me and Wanted attention 😊 Can't Remember if it Was a Boy or a Girl it allowed Me To Stroke it it Was a Really Cute Moment and that Was a Long Time ago
i swear I have been thinking about getting a cockatiel but have been looking LITERALLY almost everything that say Cockatiel, until I found this and I gotta have to say YOU are so informative and specific, I also like how you explain the consequences about certain objects for your bird like (Dowel Perches), and how the cage, toys, diet, etc help your cockatiel have a nice healthy life.
This channel is great for my research before getting myself a cockateil! My dad highly recommends them; says they were the loviest birds he's ever had. The only one he ever had to rehome was Keystone, and that was because he got SUPER jealous when they brought baby me home and would always land on my face, bite me, pull pacifiers out of my mouth, ect. Keystone had been totally free-roam for years before, and they felt it would be too cruel to cage him when he wasn't used to it, so they gave him to my dad's friend so he could still visit him. He lived a full and happy life, but my dad still misses him.
Underrated channel ❤️ thanks for these tips; I have a flock of budgies and I had to take responsibility to raise a cockateil due to some reasons .. and I had very less knowledge about them.. thank you so much ❤️
You both rock and roll! We just got our first fella and are clueless. This video is exactly what we needed. The whole family has watched it and now we are rewatching it to catch everything. Thank you so much for sharing your expertise!!
I am also trying to breed them. Frankie, the American male is very talkative. Golds, the female lutile,is not as talkative. I have a wooden breeding box and try to entice them to enter,so far no luck
Thanks for an excellent video. I used to have a budgie when I was a child. Now I decided it was time to have a long-coveted cockatiel. I've had him for a month. Absolutely adore him. Very helpful advice and insights
Thank you! They can be naughty when they want to be but they re just so cute! 😍 If you look in the video description at the bottom, there's a link to bathing training by Birdtricks which might help to get your little one interested in baths! My boys never liked the spray bottle but with time, patience and a little training, they usually accept it now. They seem to only prefer it one a week (because they are smelly little boys haha!) but I also respect when they just aren't in the mood so I don;t force them! They sometimes self bathe in their water bowls but not often!
Ohhh god thank you so much you beautiful such a gorgeous big eyes they look like two big diamonds I am in love , I really was needing this video it’s been week since the idea of getting a cute pet pop in my head and I finally found your channel 🤍.
This was super helpful! I'm getting a Cockatiel soon and I've only ever owned Parakeets, so this video helped a lot! Thank you, and I'll make sure to subscribe to you!
Thank you very much! I’m getting two cockatails tomorrow. It’s good to know that the attachment and ignoring me is just a myth. I have a cocktail that I inherited for my grandmother. My parrotlet passed away a month or two ago and I’ve felt empty so I think getting two cockatails would definitely be the way to go. I appreciate it. I will definitely be watching more of your videos. :)
@@BirdNerdSophie I’ve had them for a day now, the previous owners were very neglecting and rough with them and they had quite a plain cage so I am working on gaining their trust and I have ordered a bunch of things off your Amazon list for them 👍💕

Hello, I am planning on getting my own cockatiel and this video helped me a lot! Thank you, I wish luck and good blessings to all future bird keepers! ^^
Thank you so much for taking the time to make all of these videos, this one is especially helpfull for me. I'm very much a noob when it comes to keeping birds, I started in October last year :P Now perhaps I heard wrong...but I think you said "people being apprehensive" about feeding fresh vegetable and fruits, if one can't do this...then one is unfit to keep the animal in question. I fed my finches seeds exclusively, but that was from a point of not knowing any better. Now I do, and there is no way I will ever go back to just feeding seeds again. Granted I can only speak from experience (short as it is) with the finches, but they seem more vibrant, more content and I feel the flock is just happier overall. I just got 2 cockatiels 5 days ago, and abviously this is a completly different caliber of bird. I spend time with all my birds, I sit and talk to them, maybe eat fruits or veggies while I also offer chop to the birds. The idea is that I eat what they eat, unsure if this makes a difference...but the idea is thatthey can watch me do my thing, and not be on full alert and attentive to the birds every second. Pretend that I'm busy with my own stuff, so they get to watch me a lot. I will leave the cage door open to the cockatiels, so they can come out if they want to. So far, things have gone well. Or at least as well as can be expected, perhaps in a month or two they will be fully setteled in here. I think the fact that I already had finches helps, they are used to me now and do not scare as long as I move slow and gentle around them :) Now I have a few animals, but I think perhaps the birds are on top of my list if I had to pick a favourite. And this is mainly because they can do what I always wished I could do....fly :D
Thanks so much for watching! I'm doing my best toe educate owners on the importance of a fresh diet, but there's so much misinformation out there that it can be hard to break down barriers!
@@BirdNerdSophie Indeed, most people really know little to nothing about birds and their needs, and so we go with the "package deal" from a local pet shop. I learned early on with aquarium fish that I usually knew a lot more then the person selling, and ever since then I try to do my own research. I find a few good and reliable sources, and then I brows others now and then...but I am looking to find my "go toos", it takes a while to plow through the bs. I would say my learning curve in birds have been rather steep, but I'm willing to go above and beyond to learn and understand. And I like most people dislike to be told I do things wrong, but sometimes I do...and don't even know it. So yeah, we need people who know, who has the experience and the guts to let us now we are failing when we do :)
Well that was a very good video. I previously had a Cockatiel but really didnt remember all the different things that were going to wear me out. I was contemplating taking in a pair that someone just doesnt have time for. I live alone with my one kitty that is not a problem for a bird, so I do have time , so to speak to spend with them. I just dont know if I'm adequate enough for them. Thank you for the video.
Thank you Sophie, for this thoroughly informative guide on Cockatiel care. Having two Indian Ringnecks and one African Grey, I would love to welcome a Cockatiel to our flock in the future. I greatly appreciate your honesty and insights and I know that I will be referring to this guide again. Also just realized that you have a Cockatiel playlist on your channel and I am so excited to check them out :) You're the best, Sophie! Appreciate all you do in the bird community ❤❤❤
Great video. I'm in this birds for about 30 years and know the discussion parakeet or cockatoo. And I recently saw a documentary where they did DNA testing. It came out that it is a very own type that does not fall under the other 2. I can live with that, because they are really unique!
Thanks for making this video, it's been very helpful, I've had my two boys here since they were eggs, they are about 3yo now, I do give them a good variety of food, but they tend to be very difficult when it comes to trying new food like different types of vegetables or some other cooked soft food, they will not touch if it's not familiar, they also do not like to bath! They will never get in a water bowl no matter how many times it's made available to them, they don't like the spray either, If you have any tips, it will be highly appreciated. Thanks very much. Hadi
Hi Hadi, thanks for your comment and kind words! Have you seen my video on how to get you bird to eat vegetables? ua-cam.com/video/QbVzyFt8ZY4/v-deo.html Have you ever heard of play sinks for parrots? Great video ! Very informative ... Recently I got two baby chicks (male & female) ... Can u please comment about them being kept in an air conditioned room during night ... If not when chicks can they be kept after they develop feathers ?
Thanks for your kind words! If they are without feathers they'll need to be kept warm, when they have feathers, they can be kept in an air conditioned room as long as it's not too cold, not blowing directly on them and the system is checked regularly for mould!
Excellent information, thankyou, I look forward to watching your other videos. I got my first cockatiel three months ago, he's 3, the man who owned him couldn't devote enough time to him anymore, so we re-homed him. He's lovely, he won't let me stroke him but I'm hoping that'll come in time 😍
My roommate got a very young, rescue cockatiel, but within a few months, got a second appartment where he couldn't keep him. Now, I have a fluffy boi who loves his good morning song, and requires daily kisses, and I have no idea how to take care of him. But, his feathers have grown out, and he hardly ever screams any more, prefering to sing, and he's learning to enjoy fresh foods and not just seed. I definitly need all the advice I can get to keep my sweet friend healthy and happy
Question;im getting a cockatiel soon and I was wondering if they were particularly sensitive to sound? Like if I played piano next to my cockatiel would it damage their ears?
I'm assuming you've got this sorted already but personally my bird loves piano, I have an upright and he loves to yank the music off the piano too while I'm playing hahah
Also birds regenerate the cilia, the hairs inside the inner ear, so they really never have hearing problems. You can check out this study if you're curious about it, kind of an awesome phenomenon: scopeblog.stanford.edu/2018/06/06/birds-never-go-deaf-why-do-humans/
Lol thank you for the voice comment! 😂 I follow you guys too on mine and the flock’s account! Love seeing your flock and your tiels free flying! Ours are scared of their own shadows so I can’t see that happening any time but they fly around the house at speed lol! 🐣
I want a cockatiel so bad but I'm a dad of 2 cats. One question, could cockatiels live in a cage with a wooden frame? And what kind of cage bars should you avoid?
Cats are awesome too! I wouldn't get a wooden frame as they'll be able to chew it and it'll be hard to keep clean! Stainless steel bars are the safest if you are making it yourself, otherwise go with a reputable cage manufacturer! And the bar spacing should be 5/8"
My young cockatiel is beginning to "nest"/sleep at the top of her straw (woven narrow) toy. She looks comfy and is not 'of age' yet. Just an observation. I studied yesterday, all day, and she also took mashed banana with seed for the first time. I have organic tangerines to cut up also. thanks for you passion for our sweet birdys. Plus today she started singing, I'd say that's the beginning of trust, have had her almost two mos.So excited

This is a great video. I’ve been thinking of getting a Cockatiel and this has only made me more aware and should I get one, better prepared. Many thanks!
Hi Sophie! Thanks for pointing out that they're NOT s.c "beginner birds". I personally find it a lot more challenging to look after a cockatiel than say for example a cat or dog. I have a couple of questions! We have a rescue cockatiel that was sadly separated from another cockatiel. She has become extremely attached to me over the past week (baby noises, no longer afraid of my hands, super clingy, requires HOURS of active interaction daily) and she's so responsive to training which is lovely! I am worried about how she'll feel once i start my graduate return to work. I really want to adopt a new bird for her to bond with. How soon can I do so, in order for her to safely accept the addition? To avoid breeding etc, i'd like to get another female. Is this a good idea, or does it make it harder for them to bond? Is there a video you'd recommend about how to introduce a new bird? You and David have been incredible in our journey and Bibi enjoys responding to the calls from your beautiful boys! Much love from Australia.
Oh yes I don't believe any bird is a 'beginner' bird! You could introduce one now, and yes the same gender is usually best if you are worried about breeding! You'd need to quarantine the new bird in another room for 30 days to make sure it doesn't have any health issues that could be transferred to your current bird, then you can follow the tips from David's video here: ua-cam.com/video/0BFsUGcppk8/v-deo.html
I got a 4 week old cockatiel and i dont know what like what time do i feed him everyday how do i tame him to not bite me do i feed it water or just formula does the formula have to be watery or goey what type of temperature does it need in a room when do i start giving it seeds and do i keep him in a smallish cage right now that its a baby and when do i upgrade its cage and when will it start flying do i have to help it learn to fly do i stay with it alot or do i give him space?
Hi Jackie, I have never hand raised a cockatiel before so I can only direct you to other sites. Here is a link to hand reading: www.cockatiel.com/handfeeding.html You can start the weaning process now by offering spray millet, a bowl of seeds and a bowl of finely chopped safe vegetables - if you offer vegetables at the weaning stage, it will be more likely to eat them when it’s older. You can keep it in a smaller cage until you see it start to climb the bars and explore and that will usually be when it’s almost fully weaned. At this point it will also be able to learn to fly and it will instinctively now what to do. You can spend time with it but make sure it has a chance to rest too - 12 hours of sleep is a must! Here is a video on how to bond with your bird: ua-cam.com/video/-P_RD7PFJMc/v-deo.html
I’m looking to buy a Cockatiel, so I decided to search up in titles for “Cockatiels” and found this video highly recommended. I started scrolling through comments and got only positive reviews about the video being informative and helpful, so I started watching the video. You really know your cockatiels. And the little Cockatiel in the background is so adorable. I’m looking forward to getting my- what will this be? Sixth bird! Perhaps my sister and brother would like a Cockatiel as well! Three cages is a lot though..
I have a question... one of my budgies flew away a few days ago (he was male). my cockatiel and budgie seem sad. (the cockatiel is male and the budgie is female). There both tamed and very nice and get along with each other. is there anything I can do to cheer them up? Should I buy another budgie? Btw your such a great owner!
Hi there, thanks for your kind words! 😊 Have you tried any of these tips to see if you can locate your bird? www.herebird.com/lost-parrot/ It will take some time to adjust to their flock mate being gone if you can't find him. The best thing you can do for them is act normal and keep them busy - plenty of safe toys, training and treats! If you'd like to introduce another budgie to your flock, make sure you quarantine it for at least 30 days elsewhere in the house in case it starts showing signs of illness as you don't want your current birds getting sick from a new one! Also be prepared that it might not get along with your current birds, so you'll need to make sure you have enough space to have another cage to house it in if that's the case.
Great vid! I have completed all my research however I’m still concerned because I have a younger sister that’s 2. Is it harmful to the cockatiel or my sis for it to be there? Should I have them separated at all times and slowly give them time to bond???
Thank you! It’s definitely worth keeping them separated and having supervised interactions- a parrot bite for a child can hurt a lot, and equally a two year old won’t know not to grab etc! You can teach her from a young age how to behave nicely around birds 😊🦜
Is a badgie a good companion for a cockatiel for when i am not home (work in the mornings) or should I get 2 cockatiels? Also i found that video very useful because you also told the difficulties of keeping those birds
@@BirdNerdSophie also I never had a parrot before, do you recommend on getting something else that is easier for a beginner?( I always wanted a cockatiel but i don't want to get too excited and buy one and then not be able to maintain it)

Loved your video...thank you! We have 6 year experience with a Parrotlet and recently got a baby Cockatiel. I had been watching videos and reading about them before but still learning. Right now we are doing quarranetine.Trying to be good bird parents. 🥰
I have school but I have 4 budgies and I’m getting a cockatiel soon, I’ll be keeping them in separate cages but would they be fine if I just move the cages next to each other?
This is the very first video I've watched to help me decide if I'd like a cockatiel eventually. You are so informative and caring! I learned a lot and thoroughly enjoyed :) I hope Fish and Chip are doing well!
I have a question! So my baby cockatiel had his wings clipped and doesn’t know how to “fly” he does flap his wings and goes from place to place but he isn’t successful and will just float to the ground. Will he ever be able to fly again regularly when his flight wings grow back ?
Yes he will be able to fly once he has moulted out the clipped feathers but there could be a few crash landings whilst he finds is wings! You can also work on the exercises in my flight training video here to build up his flight muscles and get him used to controlled flight - good luck! ua-cam.com/video/CgZAFpzr2rk/v-deo.html
Yes they will grow back in a few months, but you want to keep them cut because they can fly out the door very quickly. My friend had one and did not keep the wings clipped and she opened the door and away he went, never to be seen again. Good luck 👍
hey so i really want two cockatiels but i have two cats and a little sister with whom i share a room. what’s your advice on my predicament? also i love ur vids
Hi Drake! Thanks for watching! Cats can be an issue with birds if they are out of their ages - if the birds can have supervised out of the cage time without the cats being in the room, that would be fine. How old is your sister? Can she be trusted not to let the birds out unsupervised or grab them?
We are currently harness training our birds and we have a carrier for them as well. If you wanted to take them outside unrestrained, you would need to take a free flying course with a professional trainer - even clipped birds can fly away!
@@BirdNerdSophie there’s harnesses for birds? I’m just now doing research as I might be getting a cockatiel in a few weeks, so I’m fairly new to all of this, it’s great to know that taking the bird out with me is gonna be a possibility, but one other thing, you mentioned clipping their wings in the video as well, and I’ve seen other videos that mention it also, what is the reason for this? Is it mandatory or a personal choice and what exactly does it do for the bird?
@@nejx8711 the best harnesses are the aviator and leathers 4 feathers! I have never and will never clip my birds wings - I highly recommend watching this video on it: ua-cam.com/video/iaihjhodOp0/v-deo.html
@@BirdNerdSophie thank you for the video, it was very informative. From the moment I first heard about it (clipping wings) I already thought that “well if it’s a matter of personal choice, I think I’d prefer not to clip my birds’ wings”, but I had no idea just how much of an impact it actually had on the bird, so this video only solidified that sentiment, I’m gonna let my birds keep their wings unclipped
What are you looking to buy? Cockatiels themselves? If so I’m sure there are breeders or rescues in Brisbane but I don’t know any personally - if you have Facebook, there’s a group called Cockatiel Forum which has a lot of Australian members who might be able to help!
This video is very helpful!! I just have a question, I'm getting 2 cockatiels,a male and a female and wanted them to have babies. So I'm planning on putting a wooden hut(it's like a happy hut but different) so is that ok,oh and what does "get hormonal" mean?
Hi Sara, that’s so cool that you are getting two cockatiels! If you are hoping for them to have babies, will you have enough space to keep them? You’ll also need to be prepared to hand rear them if the parents reject the babies. The recommended nest box size for cockatiels is 12x12 inches. Being hormonal is when they are displaying breeding behaviour 😊 Have you thought of some names yet?
Thank you so much😊 and yes,I do have some name ideas 1.Harmony or Melody 2.Sunset or Sunny 3.Ray(sun ray) 4.Nibbles 5.Blossom 6.Joy or hope And I think I'm going to name them a name that suits their personality!😊💕
Brilliant video, thanks so much for a lot of detailed information! I work for an animal rescue, and just adopted a cockatiel for the first time in many years. I wish I had had all this info with my first cockatiel! My pretty girl is called Lucilla, and she is very tame and loving, which is amazing, considering it's her first day in our busy home. Thanks again, and my next stop is your sprout video!
Hey, thank you for the video. It was really informative. We were thinking of getting a cockatiel and a few questions arose. Are cocktails ok for intermediate bird pet owners (have owned budgie before) or is it too adventurous? And can the cockatiel be left alone for around 6-8 hours (school, work, etc)? Is it better to get a baby cockatiel or an older one? Thank you so much for answering and hope you stay safe.
Thank you so much for watching! 😁💙🦜 a cockatiel would be okay for an intermediate bird owner! However a single bird would not do well on it's own for 6-8 hours consistently. It might work if you can have 2+ cockatiels in a huge flight cage so they could socialise and exercise throughout the day. Babies can sometimes be easier to bond with, but they can just as easily be erratic and fearful. You could consider contacting bird rescue centres as many young cockatiels are looking for forever homes!
Just got my cockatiel and I'm so scared because I lost one before within 13 days so I want to do everything right is it Anyway we can talk through email so that you can help me a little better loving your info need help😊
I recently got a Cockatiel called Cooki and she does like a quarter of the listed things. I have watched her for a while but she acts like a Budgie for some reason. I guess she has grown up next to a Budgie all of her life. I've checked other guides and still not very much Cockatiel activity.🤦♀️😐
@@BirdNerdSophie (Same person on mobile) I don't know 😗. I've read books and watched programs about cockatiels and budgies and she goes upside down a lot. She also imitates my budgies movements a lot. Tons of head bobbing , she doesn't like much affection, she follows my budgie EVERYWHERE and helps my poor little budgie because he can't fly ( some of his flight feathers are missing). Idk she is just a rlly different cockatiel and does her stuff more like my budgie. She doesn't fly as much as she used to and she is not as naughty as before, she is also really clumsy as well.
We can't find any pellets in the pet stores and online that are small enough for her to eat so for now she is on chop with some seeds sprinkled on top. She used to get a little mustache of chop after having some which I found really funny
@@thesowsowgarden6520 some cockatiels do go upside down - it's uncommon but some do it! Were they raised together? It's likely that she has just picked up on his behaviours as a way of bonding - it doesn't sound like anything to be worried about!
@BirdNerdSophie she was raised by a breeder with some budgies in the same shed (sounds like horrible treatment to me ) and now lives with a budgie. So I guess you are right.
I really enjoyed this! My son who is on the spectrum just for a baby after about a year of planning and I keep going back and forth with getting another one because I do worry it won't be as bonded to him and but I have now seen 3 different people with birds that live freely and seem to still be bonded to their owners. The food we had half right bit the sprouted seed is a new tip! Thank you so much.
As long as time and effort are out in with both birds, there’s no reason why they can’t be bonded to both owners and another bird! 😊 sprouts are awesome / so interesting to see them grow!
@@BirdNerdSophie my kids are homeschooled so it's great both birds will get a lot of attention. I had to train my son to let his baby have cage time. So this video helped him understand why it's important.

He doesn't know it yet, but he's about to be welcomed into a loving home with a companion for the rest of his life
That sounds like how our Pickles chose us - asking us in for scritches! 💙 I love the name choice - what a lucky bird he is!
not anymore... I purchased him earlier ;D)

I have two cocktails in a large aviary outside they are both turning 30 years old this year they are both males and are very healthy they dig in the grass at the bottom of the aviary and are very close to each other I live in Newzealand so the climate suits them perfectly I love watching them flying about lovely pets.
That's very impressive! They sound very happy! 🦜

Hi Amber, thanks so much for your kind words - I’m glad you enjoyed my video 💙😊
This channel is great for my research before getting myself a cockateil! My dad highly recommends them; says they were the loviest birds he's ever had. The only one he ever had to rehome was Keystone, and that was because he got SUPER jealous when they brought baby me home and would always land on my face, bite me, pull pacifiers out of my mouth, ect. Keystone had been totally free-roam for years before, and they felt it would be too cruel to cage him when he wasn't used to it, so they gave him to my dad's friend so he could still visit him. He lived a full and happy life, but my dad still misses him.
Thanks so much for your kind words! 💙 Some birds really struggle with change, but I'm glad he lived a happy and full life!

Thank you, I wish luck and good blessings to all future bird keepers! ^^
Glad it was helpful! 💙😁

Hadi

Question;im getting a cockatiel soon and I was wondering if they were particularly sensitive to sound? Like if I played piano next to my cockatiel would it damage their ears?
It might be a little loud right next to your cockatiel - could you move them to the other side of the room whilst you play? :)
I'm assuming you've got this sorted already but personally my bird loves piano, I have an upright and he loves to yank the music off the piano too while I'm playing hahah

Sometimes birds will sleep on top of toys - just keep an eye on the overall behaviour situation 😊

You'd need to quarantine the new bird in another room for 30 days to make sure it doesn't have any health issues that could be transferred to your current bird, then you can follow the tips from David's video here: ua-cam.com/video/0BFsUGcppk8/v-deo.html
your birds are so cuteee 🥺💕

Love how they follow you around. That’s amazing

Here is a link to hand reading: www.cockatiel.com/handfeeding.html
You can start the weaning process now by offering spray millet, a bowl of seeds and a bowl of finely chopped safe vegetables - if you offer vegetables at the weaning stage, it will be more likely to eat them when it’s older.
Three cages is a lot though..
Glad you enjoyed the video :) Cockatiels are bundles of fun!
Have you tried any of these tips to see if you can locate your bird? www.herebird.com/lost-parrot/
It will take some time to adjust to their flock mate being gone if you can't find him.
BirdNerdSophie thanks so much for the advice ! I’ll definitely check out your videos!
MiguelXI no problem, good luck! 😊

@@BirdNerdSophie thank you a lot i think my cage is ok, i have a cage that is 6.3 feet tall and 4.11 wide that i used to keep canaries i hope that this is good enough, as for toys i will for sure do more research again thank you for your help
@@johnisftggg6795 That sounds like a very big cage so that's great! 🦜😀
Loved your video...thank you! We have 6 year experience with a Parrotlet and recently got a baby Cockatiel. I had been watching videos and reading about them before but still learning. Right now we are doing quarranetine.Trying to be good bird parents. 🥰
Glad it was helpful! Good luck with your little baby and let me know if you have any questions! :)

Wonderful video. We’re doing all of the research we can before getting our birds and this was incredibly helpful!
Glad you found it useful! I have a lot of other videos on my channel which you might like! 😊
I have school but I have 4 budgies and I’m getting a cockatiel soon, I’ll be keeping them in separate cages but would they be fine if I just move the cages next to each other?
Hey Kasey! You can definitely keep the cages near each other, just keep a gap between them so they can’t bite each other through the bars! 😊
This is the very first video I've watched to help me decide if I'd like a cockatiel eventually. You are so informative and caring! I learned a lot and thoroughly enjoyed :) I hope Fish and Chip are doing well!
I'm so glad you liked it 😊 Chip and Fish are great thanks - currently having an afternoon nap!
@@BirdNerdSophie okay thank you so much for the information
Yes they will grow back in a few months, but you want to keep them cut because they can fly out the door very quickly. My friend had one and did not keep the wings clipped and she opened the door and away he went, never to be seen again. Good luck 👍
Subscribed! Learning all i can before we delve into the bird life. Thanks for the info!
Thanks Macie! ❤️🦜 Let me know if you have any questions!
hey so i really want two cockatiels but i have two cats and a little sister with whom i share a room. what’s your advice on my predicament? also i love ur vids
Hi Drake! Thanks for watching! Cats can be an issue with birds if they are out of their ages - if the birds can have supervised out of the cage time without the cats being in the room, that would be fine.
How old is your sister? Can she be trusted not to let the birds out unsupervised or grab them?
Wow nice cage! That's what I need. We have 1 and I want another but boss lady has more say so :( Great video!!
Thanks! 😊
Do you ever take them outside with you or are you worried they might get attacked by like a crow or something... or that they’ll just fly away
Thanks for the video , i just got my cockatiel and this was very helpful!
Glad it helped! 😊
Can you buy it in Brisbane? And where did you buy them? Bc I really want a cockatiel they are very cute!
What are you looking to buy? Cockatiels themselves? If so I’m sure there are breeders or rescues in Brisbane but I don’t know any personally - if you have Facebook, there’s a group called Cockatiel Forum which has a lot of Australian members who might be able to help!
I have been wanting one for a while now but I have to wait to I move to a bigger home
It’s always good to wait to ensure you can give the bird the best life possible! ☺️
@@BirdNerdSophie tyvm for letting me know😁
This video is very helpful!!
Being hormonal is when they are displaying breeding behaviour 😊
Have you thought of some names yet?
Thank you so much😊 and yes,I do have some name ideas
1.Harmony or Melody
2.Sunset or Sunny
3.Ray(sun ray)
4.Nibbles
5.Blossom
6.Joy or hope
And I think I'm going to name them a name that suits their personality!😊💕
@@aliahossam6632 That's a great idea! I love Nibbled and Blossom though! :)
@@BirdNerdSophie thank you!💕
Brilliant video, thanks so much for a lot of detailed information!
That’s awesome! Good luck with your new feathered baby!
Hello from America! Great video! Very informative and you have such a lovely personality!
Hello! Thank you so much for watching and for your kind words 😊💙🦜
Just got my cockatiel and I'm so scared because I lost one before within 13 days so I want to do everything right is it Anyway we can talk through email so that you can help me a little better loving your info need help😊
Hi Janice, thanks for watching! Good luck with your cockatiel! 😊
Oscar is listening of all your podcasts xxx
I recently got a Cockatiel called Cooki and she does like a quarter of the listed things. I have watched her for a while but she acts like a Budgie for some reason. I guess she has grown up next to a Budgie all of her life. I've checked other guides and still not very much Cockatiel activity.🤦♀️😐
How does she act like a budgie?
@BirdNerdSophie she was raised by a breeder with some budgies in the same shed (sounds like horrible treatment to me )
and now lives with a budgie.
@@BirdNerdSophie what sprouts do you tend to sprout the most?
@@Rainbowgoth5 I'm glad to hear it!
@@Rainbowgoth5 favourites here are buckwheat, spelt, kamut, oat groats, mung beans, quinoa and radish seeds!
