    Thanks for sharing...yes I agree with your comments...I upgraded to D500 from D7100 & now looking back I don't think I made the right decision...yes the D500 in magnificent but I won't get the best out of it...I just love using my D7100 ....I should have spent the money on better glass... cheers from Victoria..😀

      Well said! Like I stated, ifI wasn't so into Wildlife Photography, then I would have stayed with the D7500 and spent the money on more lenses.

    Great to hear you're back up and about Charles. I can echo what you said about the D500 - it is an amazing camera and I advise people getting serious about their bird photography it and the Nikon 200-500 are a stellar combination and the best value around for that sort of photography. Have a great time up at O'Reilley's, I must get back up there and stay a night soon - some awesome birds to be found there.

    Thank you so much for this video, I have watched it more than once and it’s a great reminder to work on your skills first and upgrade when the camera becomes the problem between you and your best. I have a 7500 and I keep thinking that I should upgrade. That’s when I dig this video out and re-watch it!

      Glad it was helpful! The D7500 is a fine camera and unless you're wanting/needing the faster frame rate and slightly better auto-focus then the D7500 is still great in 2023

    Sir nice comparison, is nikon d500 (upgrading front d7100) worth buying in 2022, as there is many full frame mirrorless and DSLR are available at almost the same price range.
    Thank you

      It really depends on what type of photography you do. If you shoot a lot of wildlife, the the D500 is still good.
      If on the other hand you mainly shoot landscapes or portraits, then the Z6ii is what I'd buy

      I had the D80 and it was a great camera in its day, you'll love the D7500, and once you've got the Nikon 200-500mm you'll have a great time taking wildlife photos.

      The D500 is a great camera, but it's aimed at sports and wildlife photographers. I would just buy another D7500 or go mirrorless and
      get the Nikon ZF-C

      The D500 is very good for all types of Photography, and is very good in low light and you'll find that the auto-focus work great in low light. Much better than the D7500.

    The D500 is using setting banks in the camera instead of U1/U2. You get 4 different sets of custom banks.

    • @CharlesNPhotography

      Yes, the D500 has Data Banks, but they aren't easy to use, unlike the U1 or U2 modes on the D7500

    hi Charles watch all your video but jut a few thoughts after watching this video I used the d7500 like your self and not long got the d500 and my thoughts maybe am wrong but the d7500 is better camera in low light as u can bang up the iso with no grain where I know the d500 is supposed to be a better camera but in my view from using it about a month or so now the d500 is more of a shutter camera cause in bad light if u bang up the iso to much its very grainy would u agree and forgot to say I use same set up as u with nikon 200-500.5.6 lens keep the video comes as always watch them all

    • @CharlesNPhotography
      @CharlesNPhotography  3 роки тому +1

      Hi Alan and thanks for taking the time to watch my videos and in a way supporting my channel. Yes, many others don't agree, but I have found that the D7500 was better at higher ISO from ISO500 >. The D500 on the other hand has less ISO Nosie in the ISO1000 > ISO3000 range. This in a way is not surprising as the sensor in the D7500 is much newer than the sensor in the D500. But in my opinion, the D750 which I owned a while ago was the best Nikon for low ISO noise at ISO3200 and up

    Would you reccomend the d7500 image stabilization over the lenses ?

    • @CharlesNPhotography
      @CharlesNPhotography  2 роки тому

      Image stabilization really depends on the lens for these two cameras unless you're taking video, has they don't have in-built stabilization like the new mirrorless Z6 and Z7 cameras

    It's a shame when you posted this video you hadn't got to use the D500 in the field. I've also got the D7100 and the main advantage of the D500 is it's customisation and ergonomics. Being able to have numerous AF Areas available by pressing a function button or the joypad button without taking your eye away from the viewfinder is an absolute game changer. Charles what happened to the D500 Review?

    • @CharlesNPhotography
      @CharlesNPhotography  3 роки тому

      Gary, I posted this video when I first got my D500 and just before selling my D7500. The D500 is unreal for wildlife especially birds in flight which is what I shot a lot of these days.

      @Charles N Photography That's very wise Charles. I see too many reviews where the host has not had the equipment long enough to fully understand it. Tony from Tony and Chelsea is a prime example where he did a review of the Nikon 500mm F/5.6 PF and totally slagged off the VR without getting to understand it. Should I buy New Nikon d7500 or Used Nikon d500?

    • @CharlesNPhotography
      @CharlesNPhotography  4 роки тому +2

      Hard question to answer, but I normally like buying a new camera instead of a 2nd hand one, but will buy a used lens if I can test it out. The big difference between the 2 cameras is that the D500 will focus lock much quicker. But the D7500 is still a great camera for wildlife. If you're just taking wildlife photos for fun and to share then the D7500 is a good choice, but if you're serious about wildlife photography, then buy the D500.

    • @sheepshit666

      Save up, buy a new one. There is no comparison between 7500 & D500; In every way better.

      @@sheepshit666 Im interested in that comment as I am also considering the d500 but how can it possibly be in every way better when it has the same sensor. I understand that the focussing and speed is much better and it is clearly more rugged with 2 card slots but how would it take any better pictures apart from more keepers with fast moving objects. Im seriously considering it and often hear that its better in every way but there is never any evidence apart from focussing and burst which is only one use case. I need a better business case lol. eg how will it get me better woodland or landscape photos where focus speed isnt an issue. Any help appreciated

    • @sheepshit666
      @sheepshit666 4 роки тому

      @@chrispharris2768 Better autofocus, better target acquisition (same thing really) 10fps; which equates to more keepers.
      Even go as far as to say better than the D850for wildlife;
      I own one & dont use it cause it is too unforgiving on moving targets with 46 mp;
      I can hand hold the D500 with 200-500 in low light shooting 1/30sec & get sharp images.
      I have recommended this to two other people & they love them; One was a Canon shooter.
      Dont get the Tamron or Sigma lens; They suck compared to the 200-500!

    The D7500 does 8fps, not 7fps like you said to be clear.

    • @CharlesNPhotography
      @CharlesNPhotography  2 роки тому +1

      hypothetically Yes! But in real life shooting I have found that it averaged out at between 6 to 7 FPS. I came to this conclusion after looking at over 10,000 photos shot in "Continuous H mode". If shooting a static object you'll get 8fps, but shooting birds in flight you'll find it hard to get 8fps.

      @@nickreid5939 They have the same sensor. Dynamic range is the same. Noise is the same. The D500 is better when you want to start doing more professional things with it, especially moving wildlife (or people). The standout features of the D500 come in different ergonomics and more autofocusing features. For a NEW photographer - D7500. The scene modes are there (and takes them in RAW), some flash. Save the money and get a good walk around lens like the 16-80mm. I am upgrading from a D7500 to D500 to step up sports photography. I never used the scene mode, and do not use onboard flash of the D7500 (well only to trigger other flash)
