This is by far the most informative video not only on Lithophanes, but general 3D issues that I’ve seen. Thanks so much for sharing this. You earned my sub.
I've had the best luck with detail by turning my photos black and white medium tones and then converting to stl. I've always printed them upwards on the z axis as well, not laying flat. I'll try my next one along the Y axis
Unless you are running an unusually heavy direct drive, the heated bed is MUCH heavier than the X axis. You could argue that the Y axis imparts a lower moment of inertia as it is closer to the bottom of the machine, but I've always found minimizing Y axis moves to improve quality on bed-slingers. Even the original dev of the lithophane site recommends printing minimizing Y movements on critical surfaces. Did not even stop to compare the two results.
I dont mean to be offtopic but does anyone know of a way to get back into an Instagram account..? I was dumb lost the login password. I appreciate any help you can offer me.
Hi, that is a very good question. The main idea is to print in the axis direction where the printer is having least vibrations. Beside the heat bed, the movement of the hot end will also contribute to the vibration. But for your case, Ender 5 (core xy printer) because the movement structure is almost similar along both x and y axis, it will be less difference in effect. Thus this tip will be not effective for you. Good luck and happy printing.
Guys I’m not trying to be rude- but I was pretty distracted when I put this on…… and started REALLY wondering why kept referring to the print as “your little friend” Thought it was cute but really strange after the 20th,30th time Then when I started paying attention it hit me. Great video thanks
The ones I have printed flat have actually printed pretty well but everytime I try to do one vertically it fails, it gets like 20% or so and then messes up everytime. Any suggestions for me?
use a brim. you need to keep it from wobbling as it gets higher. make sure you have good bed adhesion. If you are printing on glass, try some glue stick.
do you know if you can make lithophanes using resin? Have tried and cant get it right - and if so, vertical or flat for printing? Great video by the way
I'd say try it yourself. It probably wouldn't waste but a teaspoon of resin, if it didn't work. You'd know within the first few layers if it will work.
If you are printing with extremely slow speed, the overall vibration become negligible in both axis, so the effect might be not observable. Hope my answer help to explain🙂
@@azaharuddinsk100 For our testing, we implement both 100% infill and increase the number of walls, the quality is good. If u want slightly lower printing time, u can try 99%infill, the quality will still be great but u need to choose the infill pattern.
I cannot get these to print all the way. Last one I tried was an estimated 10 hour print and about 8 hours in, it spaghetti'd everywhere. I have tinkered with the settings but I can't figure it out. Last settings I tried .16 layers 45mm speed 200 Nozzle Temp 97% Filament flow rate
Hi, in our video, we mentioned white and light colour filament(light grey, light blue). We are very sorry that you are being missleaded . We will still try to improve time by time. Also we think that you have a great finding which can help others to prevent printing lithophane again using transparent filament. Thanks for sharing the experience here. We hope you can enjoy your future 3DPrinting project🙂👍
@@gravity-less3dprinting624 I didn't buy the filament under your guidance it's not your mistake It's totally my mistake I am angry with that filament and not with you😅 Thanks for your reply😇
There's a website that converts your pictures and adds a frame to it for you and prepares it and all you have to is bring it to your slicer and add a raft and print
This video should be first when searching for lithophane. Best one I seen so far.
Thank you! I just started printing lithophanes and this video is great!!

This video is incredibly helpful!
Outstanding Sir!
Excellent tips and overview! Thanks!
I have a coreXY :) but found the tip about printing along Y particularly smart and valuable for who has an Ender3 or like most printers out there!
Thank you very much! Very helpful
Thank you for making this video. I was about to start my first one and was about to make a few mistakes. Just in time for Mother’s Day!
This is a really good video that goes from basic to complex tips which many other channels don't cover on lithophanes! Thank you. : )
Thanks for the comment, we will keep it up😊
New to printing lithophanes; your tips and explanations were VERY helpful, thank you! This was excellent.
thanks friend , it helped me a lot.
Great Lessons! Exactly the right amount of Facts and explainations 😊 Awesome Video! Will definetely try out some of your tipps 😊😊

Great to hear that, enjoy the printing 😊

Thank you for posting this. You had some really great tips that I know will help me produce better Lithophanes.

Thanks, good tips for 3d printing in general 👍
Thanks for the tips.
GREAT VIDEO!!!!!! This really helps thank you!
Would transparent color work better or worse than simple white?
Great video. Very helpful info! 👌
good tips, thanks
Why filament? Wouldnt this be easier with Resin?
Instead of a raft I often use a brim. Works for me
thx, great video.
Is the tip about printing along the Y axis still true with a printer like an Ender 5 where the bed only moves in Z? Thank you.

More importantly, tighten everything
Can you use black filament to make a Lithopane
Spirts bless, dude! Great vid
amazeballs

That was really helpful :)
Nice
What about PETG Lithophanes? Are there any optical differences?
very good!
Thanks.
good idea flipping it 90degrees so the bed does the most movement.
You can add your profile from Cura?
What nozzle size did you used!? That's just what I want to know

Resin is better for litho thanes though isn’t it?
Yes, it is because resin can print with greater resolution(smaller layer height)
Thank You for this ... Simple & Easy to understand ... but - where are the Promise Links ?! ... (LOL)

For shapes like circles and hearts you most definitely will need strong supports if printing vertically. Ask me how I know!
