  • Driving The Ashford Ringroad
A little drive around the Ashford (Kennt) ringroad. Plenty of lane changing, pedestrians and of course hazards to be aware of.
    Awareness and hazard perception

1:15 that blue bus to the right belongs to Kent Coach Tours, my favourite bus and coach company which sadly packed up after nearly 50 years last week
    4:45 there it is again

Watching this compared to the 1990s one and wow has the town improved in terms of getting rid of idiotic road design

I’ve been driven in and around Ashford only since it’s reinvention as a a’modern new town’. It confuses the F out of me?!! I’m not bad at map reading, at least I tend to get a feel of where I’m heading but Ashford still puzzles me?!

I first lived there in ‘83 and I was a taxi driver from ‘89-‘94 - back then the ring road was one way and actually easy to navigate. I drove around there this weekend (doing another video) and I nearly drive into a no entry - the road priorities had changed. It’s quite confusing

@@drivewithcare_uk I have to say my guess on your previous/current employment was a driving instructor due to your unusually good knowledge of driving and it’s hazards… All the things we should be looking out for on a drive yet… its pretty lacking in Kent unfortunately!

Never been a driving instructor (although I taught my 4 kids to drive) but I was a taxi driver for 6 years. They can be just as careless at driving so it’s no guarantee. I think I’m just a pedantic git and if a rule is in place then it should be adhered too 🤣

At the junction of Elwick road and Bank Street is a bleedin' lampost stuck in the way.
Approaching from Station road end of Elwick road, seems to me when turning right into Bank Street, one may pass either side of that obstruction so why do so many people treat it as one would trerat a round-a-about when 'tis so much easier to pass it on the right? (Ido)
Travelling further, the "rustic" round-a-about. No 'keep left sign' or any other sign so if safe to so do, why not also treat that obstruction similarly? (I do, when safe)
Speaking of round-a-bouts, you driven from Asford to Smeeth? Going is okay but the return jouney - took me three trips (all in the dark during busy time) before I got it secure in me 'ead which lane to use.
All to easy to be in the M-way lane and not realise until too to late.
I was driving in in Ashford before the ring-road and things were far simpler then.
Must be the only ring-road which they cut through a town rather going around the town.
BTW . . . you mention being a cab driver; if that was in Ashford, you must know that was one of the dirtiest games in town, overseen by a corrupt licensing authority.
    🤠

Interesting. I never thought about the “obstacles” and driving the wrong way around them.
Yeah the lanes at J10a are crazy as they are at J10. It’s shambolic.
