I was afraid for the cross but the filter specification is from ND2 to ND400 so..... between this interval you dont have cross so the filter works well. If you need above ND400 you need another filter. I dont see where is the problem
It should be okay just don't focus on the dots because it is annoying to keep checking the side of the filter where the dots placed. Focus on your lcd screen with zebra.
This is a great ND. I was looking for variable ND can pass the normal 2-5 stop range as 5 stops is not really enough for sunny day. This one let's be safe. let's just stop at ND128/7 stops. That is still way better than only 5 stops.
Actually, it depends on the camera. For instance, when using an ARRI Alexa or Red, they recommend increasing iso to gain more stops in your highlights. Sounds super counterintuitive, but it does in fact work
Great filter. Makes it extremely convenient while shooting video. Works like iris control without changing f-stops which is very visible if need to change in middle of shot.
Well at 4:04 theres a huge color difference.Everything is green/yellowish with the filter. Shouldnt you adjust the White Balance after putting the nd filter , just to show a more reliable result ?
Thanks for this video! I was considering a variable filter (I already have a fixed ND1000 filter from K&F), but I think I'll hold off for now. I'm just shooting stills after all, so the variability is truly just a convenience. Also, there's definitely a warmer, yellower color shift with the filter on. Probably nothing that can't be handled in post processing, but it's there.
Thanks for the review, it's cloudy and rainy here for the next two weeks and was wondering if ND400 was going to be enough for me. And looks like no for me, my cameras log is ISO 800. So in the sun at 2.8 I would never get it down to 1/50th. I also saw a warmer color shift from using the filter.
I think im going to put a dot of glue on the "400" to stop it when it reaches it, so it wont overextend it. It would be better if it was done by manufacturer, but ah well.
I watched your video and if you follow the directions from the maker of the filter you would know not to turn to the filter to the extreme left or right past the markings and then you would not see the x or cross pattern you mention. I have several of these variable nd filters and pair them with a step up or step down ring and then you don't need individual filters.
This POS VND has a massive problem, I used it once in the morning mist over a lake, 3 weeks later I found haze inside, in between the glass and the coating was coming off with spots all along the edge of the VND.
OMG, one can see an honest K&F filter review on youtube?? :O Thank you for that. Is there any VND filter (with at least ND400) that can be recommended? thanks!
Any ideas how to know at which stop are you in the middle dots? I'm going to use it in film photography, so don't want to experiment with exposure (that would be expensive)
Just yesterday got my K&F ND8-2000, but mine doesn't have such fancy pouch and no orange knob, I'm not even sure if it's made of metal in my case. Didn't have the time to test it for real yet... In your case, I see pretty big color shifting. When I ordered mine it was before I knew and ordered the Freewell magnetic system, can't wait for mine to arrive!
@@Romafedorov Can't wait, but for now wanna here something funny? We went for a photo shoot (birds mostly) with a friend today, I took some gear, took the K&F ND to test it out, decided to add a mini tripod for long exposures, and when we met I realized I took few lenses that non of them at the correct filter thread size of the ND 😂 Didn't have any step up rings with me and my friend also had no suitable lens with him... Another day I guess... (But still got some nice photos today!)
I just shot with a K&F ND filter stacked with a Teffin Black Pro Mist 1/8 stacked at an outdoor function with my Nikon D3200 camera. You guys can come check it out so you can see this filter in action.
Thank you for the well explained review! Can i ask the difference between the different series of ND filters? (N, D, B, K, nano...). I bet it's about the glass but I can't find the real differences. If anyone knows, thanks in advance
Im afraid to get this one cos i see it on cheap sites.. does the filter affect the sharpness of the image? I see some other filters are cheap that the photo doesnt look as sharp
@@Romafedorov oh you're right!! Damn i just saw this listed on a local online store and it's even more expensive than the cpl-nd filter. I wonder where it really sits in their line up with the lack of hard stops. they really should've added them
Thanks bro for the honest review. looking at some online photo reviews, they have all said no X , but it has in fact. I can clearly see from my experience. Hoya is much better that K&F

@@tuckerparsons9182 if you plan to buy any lenses in the near future then get a bigger size filter thread. Otherwise just get exactly what you need now, which is 55mm thread.
you are not going ABOVE the nd400 mark, you are transitioning back to nd2 😂 that’s common sense if the filter has no hard stop 😂 does anyone record while actively adjusting the ring? 😂 that’s dumb
Барахло, короче. Это эффект двух поляриков. Спасибо за видео, буду знать. А то, видел эти фильтры в интернетах и думал брать, Рома показал, что это фуфло.
I mean it does makes sense that there's crosses at above ND400. It is advertised to be ND2-ND400. So you are getting what you pay for.
And he say nothing happening between nd2 and400 😂😂😂 he has no eyes? 😂😂😂
I was afraid for the cross but the filter specification is from ND2 to ND400 so..... between this interval you dont have cross so the filter works well.
If you need above ND400 you need another filter.

Not a big problem if you are aware of this, but i think it wouldve been nice to have a locking mechanism to prevent the crosses from ever showing up.
@@Romafedorov Yes, a stop would be nice. Manufacturers would be listen our commentaries

For the price i also think that this is a great one.
You should always reset your white balance no matter the ND filter brand you are using. Also, your ISO should be at the lowest when shooting outdoors.
I think 640 is the lowest ISO for F-log
@AyoolaBoyejo he's shooting in LOG format as he mentioned. Most cameras are between ISO 500 and ISO 800.

So if you use the product incorrectly you get a bad result. Got it. Great review bud... Never would have figure that out with out your help.
ofcourse its going to have X if you go above its specs.. lol
yeah that's what I was thinking. Between 2 a 400 it's fine. above 400 until it rotates back to 2 ofc it has Xs... :

After using Variable ND's I have to agree; Using ones w/o hard stops is a real pain.
Literally could have been a 2 second video.
I think im going to put a dot of glue on the "400" to stop it when it reaches it, so it wont overextend it. It would be better if it was done by manufacturer, but ah well.
why go beyond 400 if the spec says max is 400? i really dont get the point..
I thought it was a 2-400 VND? Why would you go outside of that?
Thank you for such an awesome presentation. I just want to mention, though, that I think you have the shutter speed and the ISO numbers reversed.
It’s warmer I like it. Minor adjustments

the coating, means the more coating applied (ex 18,24,28,32) the less the reflectivity occur from the filter itself, that's all i've been read from
been almost 2 month still finding out which nd filter do i realy need, is it 2-400 or 3-1000
With nd looks more cinematic
Obviously.
That's what I was thinking. The colour was more cinematic.
Thank you for clear explanation..can you please guide which one will be good...

Good job
If you got the product for free from K&F in return for a review, your video IS sponsored even if you didn't receive money for it.
What nd would you recommend
FREEWELL
With ND it the sky is a bit greener
Tbh why would you set your Iso at 640 … trying to preserve the natural grain and over exposing? Big L
Hoya variable nd filter is better than k&f?
Don’t know, never used Hoya before.
What’s the different between the b series and k series?
You're using it incorrectly.
Can i mount more filters on top o the K&F VND?? does have threads for that?
So if you use it the way it's intended there are no issues? Just stop going over 400 then. :p
can you recomend better variable nd filter ?
There are so many good ones now. Check out NISI or FREEWELL..
The nano x series is the ND with no x. This is still the cheaper one

he is above 400 and below 2 that's why x appears, its the edge of 2 polarizing lense meeting. its pretty normal for a budget nd filter
