Nice information! I want to suggest knowing the tides- currents and winds! When I spearfish I use a 5 liter bottle half filled with wtr- reflective tape on top . I can survive for 3 days on what I carry with me.
I unfortunately started with a Walmart US Divers set and 3-prong. My mask failed during a dive and filled with water while I was on the bottom, straps on fins eventually broke and lost them in the current, and still struggling but perfecting technique using the 3-prong. Highly recommend spending the money first instead of just having to replace gear anyways a few months down the road like I did.
Thank you for the tips in this video and others. I’m excited to try it in April while visiting. I’m a total rookie with the spear fishing but have done some abalone diving here in California before the close of it a few years ago.

Do you know any decent spots for beginners near hilo or Puna? Trying to get into diving and have no idea where to start. Also love the vids they really help
As I don’t spearfish as much as I would like to these trips are really helpful for when I can/do. You should come fishing with me sometime so we can catch some more handline mahi🤙🤙🤙

Can you profile the different species of gamefish and techniques you use to hunt them? That would be interesting.
