I don't agree with how you handled this review. It seemed more of "why I like the Galaxy and iPhone better" rather than a review. Just doesn't seem like a full review.
Why wouldn't you compare it to the best phones in the market, if they have a similar price? If you can get something better than this phone at the same price what does it have going for it? Keep in mind the S7 and 6S were released a while ago.
Justin Yea, I understand that. But it just doesn't feel like it's a real review. Hard to explain. Rather than (for example) "the camera's performance is..", it's "the galaxy's does this, so this is why it's worse".
To me it seemed like he was comparing it to the iPhone and Galaxy as if they were one phone not two separate phones. "This phone doesn't have this features so it's worse than the Galaxy," but the iPhone didn't have that feature either, then would swap it around again in another comparison.
When a phone does something better you can point that out. Nokia went out of the smartphone business because of that fact. And I have a nexus5. And will most likely never buy a samsung.
Your Average Black Guy he is telling people that it is a bad phone and they shouldn't buy it because of his subjective opinion. It is not a better or worse phone because it has a removable battery and is not waterproof. And some people like to listen to music and will like using the optional dac. Not everyone cares about it being waterproof. Everything he faulted the phone for is completely subjective.
He lost credibility when he hated on the camera and completely left out the wide angle camera. Know what you're actually reviewing. It's one of the top cameras in the market.
yes the camera takes great wide angle shot in well lit condition but not many people will use it and its weak in dimly lit atmosphere. Moreover did i say that this is the ugliest phone after moto g4
+Redowan Nafi Manual mode ftw. Solves all those 'problems.' And so what if it's ugly. If I wanted a piece of jewelry I'd get that instead. It's a phone and people have put an insane amount of stock into looks. It's ridiculous.
I find an easily removable battery is a lot more useful than a phone having water-resistance. Most phones nowadays (2021) are built with planned obsolescence by the manufacturers, i.e. when the phone's battery dies - Time for you to buy another one - Keep giving us lots of money. Who cares about e-waste anyway, not us, we just care about your money.
+Col. Twang333 It's a good phone, linus just doesn't like it because he likes waterproofing more than removable battery. (Me personally would take the s7 over the G5 because, well, it rains where I live and I love shooting photos in the rain). The G5 is in NO WAY a bad phone. Just wait for someone to release some good modules for this phone.
+•TэssэłłдtэdGцy• This. Linus usually does very subjective reviews. The moment I heard lack of wireless charging and waterproofing kind of confirmed what I thought about the review. No matter. If you like the phone like I do then there's really no reason to feel disappointed in your purchase.
Are you happy with it? I mean, this is linus opinion, I'm sure you have a different point of view... I wasn't able to locate LG G5 in my country to test it, so I just went for the S7 Edge, and I must say, it's a beautiful phone, 4 months already since I bought it and it's still as fast as it was the first day!
Smart phones in the same bracket offer water resistance or some feature that is equally useful. Linus has pointed out that he doesn't think the features on this phone / the implementation of these features are good enough. Furthermore the addition of tech products (that we may choose to use) doesn't make it better.
What he's trying to say is that the G5 has nothing special (yes there is the removable bottom, but there honestly is no use for it.) With the same price, you could get the S7 that DOES have waterproofing.
stop with this custom ROM bullshit pls, once and for all. I used to flash ROMs daily a few years back but it's not what it used to be and secondly, just not needed anymore. A ROM won't give this phone a better camera, better video recording, better battery, more useful modules, hot swappable modules, better build quality, or waterproofing.
I honestly love the rear-mounted fingerprint sensor, whenever I'm holding the phone it's so quick as my finger usually rests in that location. I admit I do run into the problem when the phone is flat on a table, but to solve that I use LG's knock code to unlock feature. It takes only a couple seconds longer and is much quicker than typing a pin
First LTT video I've disliked. This came across like a whiny blog post rather than a professional review. Your personal taste should be part of it, but not most of it. Reviews are for consumers, but this review wasn't. None of the issues Linus had sound like common preferences, and none of them were well-supported. (the camera comparison with the iPhone was laughable...I liked the LG shot better. It just needed a white balance tweak.) At the end of the review I felt I learned nothing other than the specs and that Linus has weird deal breakers for phones That's not very useful...
That would be useless. People who review things professionally are supposed to help people understand what the thing is like, whether it's high quality, etc... so they can decide if they want it. It has nothing to do with making viewers happy...that isn't what "Reviews are for consumers" means. Of course he should be honest, but he presented several aspects of the device as if they were objectively flawed, when actually they just weren't his personal preference. He normally doesn't do this, and is clear about comments that are a personal preference vs. those that are a real issue. Since usually he does a better job of this, I felt like I should point it out.
Your complains don't make any sense. Double press the volume down button to launch the camera. Voila no kick in the balls now. (Moto has twist to launch.) You say you love the double tap to wake phone, then you complain about the power button placement. You can just double tap, and unlock the phone through knock code or PIN! (who uses his phone on a desk anyway...) You say removable battery vs water-resistant, but iPhones has NONE of these features. You are THE FIRST to say the camera is worse than the S7 and 6S!!!! It's miles better with more details and no crazy software sharpening on the S7. Even Nova Launcher (probably the best launcher ever) has no drag and hide app feature. Bonus: The speaker is stunning. S7 has a crappy one due to being water resistant. I compared side by side with my mum's 6P, and frankly I prefer the sound depth/clarity of the G5 despite the 6p being Stereo.
The iPhone 6S is actually water resistant. It is not advertised as such, but it has a gasket inside, and has withstood many water tests. Most people figure they were going for water proof, but didn't quite get there, so decided to ship it without mentioning it. Which is not a first for Apple.
Yeah. I was understanding until like 6 minutes in. I came from the G3. The speaker on the G5 is like twice as loud and twice as clear. Yeah it doesnt have the best placement, but it's better than the back of the phone. The camera takes surprisingly decent photos in the dark as well as in bright lights. The stabilization is a nice touch. The colors could be a little better, but I'm sure a third party camera app or even some post processing could fix this issue. The phone is water resistant, obviously up to a point, and not as far as a fully enclosed phone. (There are tons of videos where this device is drowned for long periods of time). Gah, so many problems with this review.
Linus, allow me to review your "review". I'm a fan of most of your content, and I'm subscribed, but unfortunately this video goes to show you cannot seem to objectively criticize products properly, and comes off as an _excessively fanboyish_ and salesman-like promotion of the S7. First off, I don't even _have_ this phone (I currently have a Galaxy S4 but I'm planning on upgrading and haven't decided yet between this, the S7 and the Pixel). I've seen your S7 review and while you've mentioned somewhat equivalent negative criticisms of it, you've arrived at _suspiciously polarized_ conclusions to both videos. You've lost all credibility in my eyes (and apparently many others) when it comes to mobile reviews, and I'll be paying more attention to other reviewers. "For me personally" should not take effect on your final rating in a proper review if you're well aware that a majority of others may hold the _opposite_ opinion. You've praised the G5 for many of its features, but neglected to even mention the _second wide-angle camera_ on the phone (one of its most prominent, most obvious, and most useful features), and called the camera disappointing _without even providing an analysis of why it's bad_. Why is this analysis necessary? *Because **_damn near every other reviewer_** (through not only first impressions but in-depth comparisons and detailed observations) have said the exact opposite!* You've only complained about shortcuts to _reach_ the camera, but failed to mention that double-tapping the volume down key is its shortcut. You've spewed complete hatred towards the speaker (which most reviewers claim is the best bottom-facing-single-speaker setup they've heard on a phone), while on your S7 video you've simply brushed aside the fact that the S7's speaker is so terrible that you need to cup your hand around the bottom of the phone to be able to even hear anything clearly. _At the same time_, you've complained that the G5 wasn't waterproof. You're a tech guy - you should be well aware that *making a phone waterproof effectively **_butchers_** the sound quality of the speaker* (the S7's speaker is _understandably and unsurprisingly terrible_). This is one of the reasons why many people don't care at all for water-resistance, especially when waterproof casing is available. Your claim that this phone is expensive is _an outright lie_ when considering the equivalent competition! It's _much_, much cheaper than the rest given its hardware and features. You only need to come across another video that talks about 15 ways the G5 is better than the S7 (and another video from the same channel that talks about the opposite) to realize how many _outright lies_ there are on this video. Simply stating sarcastically that you may have been paid to do a bad review _doesn't_ make it any less probable that you _have_ been. Considering that your conclusion to this review (and the title of your video) suspiciously _contradicts_ the observations you've made about the phone, makes it seem likely that you were only sarcastic at the start of your video to make the truth seem less probable. You've literally provided ZERO good reasons why anyone shouldn't buy this phone over its competitors. The majority of negatives you mentioned _are irrelevant_ UI problems (easily fixed by using any of the vastly popular UI options on Google Play), and the lock button being on the back is negated by the fact that *quickly double-tapping the screen unlocks the phone*, which is even easier than using a side lock button while it's on a desk. This is NOT a review, it's opinionated slandering with no analytical reasoning for it. I'm unsubscribing since I can't trust the opinions of a reviewer with a fanboyish bias _so ridiculously obvious_ it puts Apple fanboys and Fox News to shame (it's either that or you're simply a sellout). While your other content is seemingly good, I can't seem to take you seriously about any product. _"Some people are just gonna buy it, just for the IR emitter."_ LOL! Oh? You don't think it's for the easily-swappable battery, the modular design, the _much_ better sound quality and loudness for not only the speaker but the headphone jack and the 32bit/192kHz audiophile module, the 360-camera module, the tougher build (even given its non-water-resistance), their probable display preference for IPS Quantum over AMOLED, the much cheaper cost, the _empirically_ better (just check analytical comparison reviews) and more detailed camera that includes a third for wide-angle pictures and video? It's obvious that the only "true disappointment" shown in this video is the integrity of your channel.
Can't agree with you enough. But I think it's been pretty evident that Linus does/has been doing many paid reviews/negative videos for a while now. It's pretty obvious from this video that he had ulterior motives(whatever they might have been ) that influenced his "review" significantly. Inspite of that, as you can see, comments like yours which would have gained a lot more likes and hence exposure don't seem to have enough likes. I was a subscriber to this channel from pretty much when it seriously started happening. I even made my youtube account just so I could subscribe and like his videos and even bought my, at this point, 5 yr old G55VW which is still my main computer and is still a beast solely based on a single Unboxing video by Linus when he was on NCIX TT. But unfortunately for us folks, there seem to be way too many adolescent idiots amongst his subscribers which was made evident when he was "forced" to put silly and stupid thumbnails and video titles as opposed to the elegant, professional style he used to have. So, criticism is a meaningless thing here. I still try to stick around but it appears my patience is running out too. Hope things change around here soon :/
You don't deserve to be on the internet, just another cheapskate fanboy typing against Linus, go work and earn your money to buy a better phone, stop whacking on normal realistic people who work hard doing what they love you pleb!
Vytautas _ no, but it in this case it does. its visibly sharper compared to the s7, 6s and the htc 10. and its better in low light. imo it also has the better colors - but thats just a question of post-processing. also: it has a wide angle camera.
This wasn't a review, this was more of a personal rant. Most of the issues linus had have easy fixes. This also failed to show any redeeming qualities of the g5 which any good reviewer would have shown.
how? a review is inherently an opinion of the reviewer. what were you expecting? were you hoping he'd jack off while holding the phone? or did you just want your purchase to be validated by the best tech channel on youtube? lmao
Drancks ehmm, let me correct you a bit, you are mainly correct, but not 100%, a review means showing the full potential of a product, good / bad and giving also your opinion. Because only giving opinion about a product that you like or dislike or etc its not called a review, but an over-view or just personal opinion. But hey you can't please always everyone
+Rifat Ferati bullshit, the G4s camera beat out the iphones, no way the G5 is worse. tbh, G5 has the best camera. i used to have it till i switched over to verizon. now rocking the S7 edge. generally, the S7 edge is a better phone, but ill take the G5 cameras.
some people have their phones rested flat on their desks a lot, and when a phone has bad viewing angles, it's noticeable and seems cheap. when you're paying upwards of 600 bucks for a phone, the screen better be fucking awesome, because you could argue phones ARE their screens these days
people wants to have a premium looking and feeling phone. people defining of being a premium phone should made out of metal or glass. BUT PEOPLE wants a removable battery. now LG made this G5 a metal and glass phone and yet removable battery but people doesnt like it and call it UGLY. people are crazy
Just bought one for $400 CAD. It's amazing so far. I do not understand your camera complains, it's amazing. I absolutely love the button at the back as well
What the hell? Are you serious about the camera?! Nearly every other reviewer has said it is THEE best camera you can get on a flagship smartphone to date! Same as on the G4, Better than Samsung or I-Phones, are you using it wrong or something?! I-Phone especially isn't anywhere near as good in low light!. And Im a Galaxy S7 User so I'm not a LG fanboy but I have seen a friends LG G5 camera and it's amazing!
GaLoS He complains about the button placement on the back when it's easy to access and if it's flat in the surface then pick it up or use knock knock code. Bearing in mind if place an iPhone flat on its screen it cannot be accessed. It also far easier to access the button the back when it's held in the hand. He conokains about the camera but does a complete shit review of said camera. He hates the speaker yet it's in the same place compared to most iPhone and Samsung's but when they do it he praises them. Compliance about no water resistance, yet most people don't take there fucking phone in the steering and would take removable SD, Expandable Storage and removable battery any day over water resistance.
He also complains about the app Drawer, when all you have to do is enable it I feel like this was a hurried review, as it really was surface level besides the camera grip.
Zephyr-Z51 Humans are inherently biased. The thing is, a good reviewer will be biased, but will be open to other points of view. Linus himself has been surprised about products in the past, putting aside his bias to recommend a product that, while not for him, might be good for someone looking for something different from him.
+Christopher Pilcher I've been following Linus for years and this is one of the rare chances that I disliked one of his video. Too nitpicky and biased towards LG. Anyway, I'm not gonna elaborate more on why I hated this review since you can pretty much see other comments and other's point of views on why this was a terrible review.
Im still rolling with the LG G5... easy to repair, easy to replace batteries and I have an LG monitor that I use the RF blaster with ;) so its worked out great for me :)
We had a workshop in my university class recently where we were divided into groups and asked to bring an old device to disassemble. I brought my old G5 and the rest had some old iPhone's, Samsung's and Sony's. My group were finished in about 15 minutes while the rest took between 45-60 minutes or more. The teacher got really interested the second I popped the bottom and removed the battery lmao
+Jellyblob When you realist how much shit PC players talk and most PCs aren't Eben stronger than an XBox One and you realise the will be strongest and best of both worlds.
+Rahul Chaudhary Sorry, the S7 images are lacking detail. The sensor is 4:3 which sucks..you only get 9.1MP when taking full screen images. The sharpening is out of control on the S7. No wide angle. So.. yes, the S7 has better focus speed but images look better on the G5. I tried both BTW.
I agree, normally I wouldn't bother commenting but some of the things he had problems with I see zero issues with. IE the button placement. That's what double tap to wake and double tap to sleep are for. And he complained about the camera mod but didn't use it to take pictures???? wtf? lol
Luchico638 yea same here. And the g5 has been praised to have such a awesome camera (which it does) and even beat the s7 in most reviews. I'm telling you man, something is up with this video lol
yep, mine too. i was waiting on the g5 to upgrade, but i too was rather disappointed with all the changes. front-facing speakers on a g3 would make it a near-perfect phone for me. lookin at the v10 now...
The G3 is a great phone, but I wasn't too impressed. It's really nice, and has pretty great all-round specs, but it failed to excite me. It could be because I got it after I got the G4, which is an utterly amazing phone, so I guess I'm biased. I'd definitely recommend the G3 though, it's fantastic bargain these days!
Thisath Ranawaka specs-wise g4 is clearly better (esp if u like taking photos in manual mode), but imo the g3 feels much better in the hand. its rounded edges make the g3 feel smaller than it is despite being almost Note3 size. i couldnt get used to the harder edges on the g4 after using a g3.
+steve j I really have to agree there. The G4 is quite big compared to the G3! Considering the pack the same screen, I don't know why it's this big. The G3 us very similar in size to the Galaxy A5 for example, which is a 5" phone. Still, I really love the leather back on the G4, and the curved screen!
Same here, I chose the v10 over the G5 for various reasons but there are a lot of great features on the G5 that he didn't even touch on. It's just poor form for someone who's supposed to have such a great objective opinion.
First off, I have a G5 and I love it. So there's my bias. Arguing that a phone is bad because it doesn't have a feature another camera does is wonky. The real question is 'is this phone functional at a level that works for you?' If that missing feature is a deal breaker for you, buy the other phone - but symmetrically, user swappable batteries is a big thing for me.. and none of the others you cite have that ability... so to me, they suck (in comparision). 1. The UI skin. Hate it. Replaced it with Google Now and did a little tweaking and voila. Almost standard Android. There are a few things LG removed though - like guest accounts - that are hard to excuse. Fortunately, I don't share my phone with anyone and most of these aren't big issues. 2. The removable tray. Sorry - but I think this is far, far more useful than Linus thinks it is. Not for the devices - that turned out to be a joke - but to allow me to carry four battery blades and quick swap them. I just came back from DisneyWorld and I was taking long videos and tons of photos nonstop and the ability to quickly swap batteries was a godsend. Ironically, my iPhone toting friends were having to battery manage all day. They also charge very quickly. LG makes a charge case which can also be used as a power brick. "You could have just run it off an external battery". Yup - true - if you don't mind your phone tethered to a brick while you're trying to use it. Which leads me to... 3. Waterproofing. Seriously - what are you people doing with your phones??? I don't shower with my phone. I don't go swimming with it. I don't remake scenes from Flashdance with it. If I want to put it underwater to take a picture of something... which has literally never come up as a thing to do, I'll put it into a waterproof bag... Guess what - ZipLock freezer bags. Cheap and they work. 4. The camera. This was my first phone with wide angle. I don't do selfies, so I don't care about the front camera - but the back camera is fine and the wide angle mode is awesome. I love that their app has a 'manual' mode that lets you tune every aspect of a shot. And a con... 5. FM Radio. Not on North America models except the Sprint model. Which is a pity because having an FM radio is surprisingly useful, especially in an emergency. Are there better phones? Sure. Well, depending on what you define 'better' to be, of course. But for me, the G5 does what I want and does it well.
I 100% agree with one thing you said... We're going to buy it for the IR blaster but in my case the IR Blaster and the removable battery... I love the LG phones and I am definitely saving up for a G5 keeping my G4 👍
High price? This is nearly £100 in my country. Quite a big difference if you ask me. I'd chose this over the S7 because I have no use for water resistance, I'm barely going to use it in the rain or water, and if you need a new battery for the phone you can do it yourself really easy. Also this is much better for me as it is much easier to root than the Galaxy S7, as people say. This looks like a great phone, I don't see this phone as a disappointment at all, except for the lack of modules, which I'll only use for replacing the battery if I need to.
+ganraj kelkar it's cheaper than the 1+3 here in the philippines online, expensive on malls though.. which would u buy though? considering they're both $400?
ganraj kelkar Thanks. I'm leaning towards it too. The reason I was considering G5 against Xiaomi mi5s, Zte axon 7 & 1+3 is support if something breaks, they don't have service centers here shipping them would be a hassle. LG has one in my city.
I dont get why LG G5 is not a popular phone, I just bought one and it is clearly superior to S7, I mean, it has removable battery, faster speed (benchmark tests proove it), have a wide angle camera lens, 8mpx front camera, the IPS panel has great color accuracy, and bright enough. It has SD card slot too, and the battery is enough for 1-1.5 days usage. The looks are subjective thou, I think it looks great. The only thing the S7 has over the G5 is the IP67 waterproof thing, but even then, you can check youtube video about a G5 being put under a bowl of water for 2 minutes, and it does not fail, so it definitely has some basic water proof sealing. Oh and one more thing... If you drop your S7 edge on its sides you will break your front glass because of the curved design... G5 is more sturdy.
if you are considering to buy it you should, its best overall out of any phone currently. Also if you rly like games and want higher frames you can downscale games to 1080p and get a huge boost in performance(that makes it pretty much future proof because in 2-3 years when it starts to struggle with games you can downscale and struggle is gone.Speakers are great(there is 1 front speaker for higher frequencies and 1 side for bass).Android is stock and has no bloatwere ,fingerprint scanner is fast and camera is one of the if not the best currently this year. Its all metal so you cant get more premium
This has to be kind of awkward now that basically every smartphone manufacturer puts their fingerprint reader on the back just like LG. And no one has an issue with that cause everyone realized that it's way more ergonomical. Edit: Oh and let's not forget how almost everyone are including wide-angle lenses now. LG was ahead of everyone on both those parts but Linus gave them literally zero credit for the camera and stick for the fingerprint reader? And no mention of the Quad DAC either that makes LG the only option if you want really good sound quality in your headphones.
Got S7 in March, crushed it when I fell, I was a bit drunk. Got 6S Plus then but I left it in the school toilet, it was gone when I rushed back. Great phones both Samsung and Apple. Now bought the cheapest with Snapdragon 820 and this is a great phone. Even better pics than Samsung, is this guy in need of prescription glasses?
Just bought a brand new LG G5 about an hour ago, Still rocking it in 2020. Love it! The previous one I had earlier this year had an issue with the motherboard
***** You're acting like the wide angle camera has to be set up or something. It's something you just use when you want to take a picture, and the amount of stuff that's added with the wide angle is unprecedented. For the average person, the wide angle camera would just be the equivalent of zooming out; something that LG has taken into account. Of course, you wouldn't know this from this review, but if you zoom out of the normal camera, it'll automatically take you to the wide angle camera. A small feature, but an important one since it does much in terms of making the wide angle feel seemless.
***** Which takes more time and reproduces inaccurate pictures. I find it funny how you're completely fine with recommending using panorama mode while you act like the wide angle lens is something that most people won't use.
***** What exactly is your phone. I don't really see much a quality drop if there is any at all. The wider camera isn't a better camera than the regular one, but like I said it's an absolutely seemless experience. I don't really see how people's wants are relevant to how well a product works. I also don't quite understand what you mean. Cause it seems to me that you're trying to use what you see on a daily basis as proof that people don't want a certain product. Weak and kind of creepy argument. Panorama takes more time, and produces inaccuracies especially with moving shots and the end quality are much more dependent on how straight you can move your hands. Not exactly just as good. The only thing the removable battery directly compromises is water proofing, and there are plenty of people who are fine without that.
***** This conversation started with the wide angle camera. It's nice to see that you've moved on to other things. I don't believe it's a sign of low quality at all. Somethings are just designed differently than others and unless you can prove the specific compromise, then it's just personal preference. I think you forgot fast charging, the wide angle camera, usb type c, IR blaster as well as the myriad of other standard phone features. You're not really supposed to have an "urge" you're supposed to incorporate and treat it as part of the camera in general. I mean, I can open my phone directly to the camera app and try to take a shot. If it doesn't have everything then I zoom out. Eventually I won't be able to zoom out with the regular camera anymore and the app will just have me use the wide angle automatically. You're acting as though it's more work than taking a panorama. It really isn't and it's fine if you don't like the G5, but you're really coming off a bit baseless here.
you didnt take into account LG's great durability w/ their phones. My G3 was still working fantastic (even after multiple drops) and now the G5 will last me many years to come
I would say my only gripe with this video, is the lack of any mention of the dual rear cameras, the ability to be able to effortlessly interchange between the standard and wide angle lenses to suit the situation, whether it be to capture a group shot or a countryside landscape is extremely useful and this versatility is what sways me to prefer the LG G5's cameras over any other in the market right now.
Lol I got a J7. ANYTHING will be better than that. I still have a PS3 that I play. People just seem to be so finicky and ungrateful nowadays for amazing technology. ITS AMAZING. Whenever it gets to ya.
Couldn't be happier with my G5. The camera experience is unrivaled, the wide angle camera is just sooo awesome and it was the best value in Snapdragon 820 territory.
I use my phone for communications, playing games, and rely on battery for commuting to work and back. The removable battery is still a major selling point for me as well.
removable battery is the best thing ever! I replaced at least three worn out batteries in the last six years without any risk or special tools. Not only it saved me much money but also much time.
fingerprint sensor *should* be kept behind the phone [as G5] OR at the side of the phone, else we cant have any beautiful phone with front facing stereo speakers and a front facing fingerprint sensor!! besides when you lay your phone near you and you just want to check the time and notifications, just tap the screen to wake it, if you want to use it properly, just pick up the damn thing, all i want to say is that you cant ask for optimal speakers placement [front] and complain about the fingerprint scanner location! [excuse me for my bad English]
The correct way to use a back fingerprint sensor is to use your index finger, instead of flipping your phone, pressing the fingerprint sensor with your thumb and then flipping your phone again.
Isaac Newton I'm not a LG guy I got one plus but this review was very biased and full of of contradictions and it being half price just means it didn't sell as much they produced the HTC 10 was more of a flop then LG g5
I understand where he is coming from but I think it honestly depends on what you need or want in a phone I think this would be a great upgrade from a g3 just simply because I like the button on the back
I believed the review until the camera department, come on Linus, even Anandtech praised it's camera, the 6S is no match for it there, the GS7 gets a good run for its money and in good light it performs better
Honestly I think the G5, 6S, and GS7 all have amazing cameras. I think we all just need to take a step back for a moment and realize how far smartphone cameras have come. I mean seriously, you can only do so much with such a tiny image sensor and if you compare one from a smartphone with one from a full-frame DSLR per se, you'd be astonished at the capabilities we have laid out before us. Odds are if you're getting one of these phones, it's probably an upgrade from what you have, so regardless you still have a better camera. And to conclude, keep in mind that phones like these aren't made SOLELY around the aspect of stunning photography, they are made to please every 'department' of people ranging from photographers and audiophiles to developers and those who need Snapchat and Instagram to load up within 0.2 seconds.
The LG G5 will always leave a bad first impression, but it will always grow on those who put the effort to enjoy it. I believe Flossy Carter when he notes all the cons of this device, yet reinforces that the LG G5 is worth being on the same tier as the Nexus 6P, S7 and HTC 10. LG G5 won't be loved by the masses; its popularity won't see light. But its true worth and functionality will resonate within those who own this phone. If you own an LG G5, please... take people's criticisms with a grain of salt.
Yeah... okay anyways one question : what about the knock-code to unlock feature ? Is it still present with the G5 ? I understand how the button on the back is sometimes a pain, but with the knock code feature it was unnecessary to reach the button when the phone laid on its back. (talking about my G3S) -> so is there a knock code feature present with the G5 ?
he's talking about the double tap feature at 7:08 ; as far as I know those two are different features right ? double tap is to wake up the screen without pressing the button and the knock code already unlocks it while screen turned off
not one to usually bitch about videos but seriously 1. if your not using a custom skin on android, your practically not using android 2. the power button on the back was just great, 3. the one reason i bought mine was for my Hi-Fi module, literally the only way to get 24-bit audio on mobile also id trade off waterproofing for a replaceable battery and SD card slot any day. over all lit wasn't as much of a hug disappointment as it was a push for out of place innovation that LG is accustomed to, and honestly Im ok with buying memes like these Edit The external DAC module actually gives 32 bit audio not 24, writing this shit at 3 am
lol your first point was so fucking dumb. not everybody wants to run a skin that slows down the overall experience. chances are, your Android phone isn't rooted and without Xposed, both which bring out the "real Android"
HTC 10 has 24 bit too 😂. Besides it's just a marketing gimmick. You'll find videos and tests everywhere that compare 16 to 24bit and there really isn't that much of a difference if you're already using super high quality files.
I've just got an LG G5 and you mention custom skins on android. How do i get those, this is my first android phone. And which skins do you reccomend? :)
Having owned it for a few months now I find the g5 is a nice phone. Quick, reliable and good camera. I love using the wide angle. Although only 8mp it's detailed enough to view on 50 inch TV. Iike LGs screen, very pleasant colours. GPS was fixed quickly and now works great. The selfie camera is actually good. Having a removable battery is very useful. The battery life with 1 battery is average at best. Will make a day usually but with 2 it beats flagships and changing over takes 2 mins thanks to fast boot up. I have external charger so can charge 2nd battery when first is in use.
On screen buttons are so much better. They hide while you don't need them anyway. I have a tendency to touch s7's buttons and they send me to my home screen.
since when did LG had a crappy camera? I have my g4 and its still has a better camera than any iphone imo, and the front camera of the g5 is mediocre? it is an 8mp camera! whats its really good imo
Nah I have it. Issues like the boot loop and lack of water protection are both problems that I have faced, and it has degraded on me and over all reminds me of the Galaxy S4
PRIME yep it’s a pile of shit, after a few months mine had the common screen burn in and the cameras were awful in low light even though it was marketed all over the place as a really good camera, it wasn’t the worst phone i’ve ever owned but it was pretty close, i sold it and bought an iphone 7
The G5 camera can compete with current android flagships. I tested the quality against the P20 and there was no difference (even in darkness) the G5 camera just takes more time to focus... It was really the best camera at that point on a flagship phone Screen burns (they are not permanent) ,bugs and glass that cracks really easy without protection are the main problems with the phone.
eu4eagle the camera isn’t very good, the low light performance is so bad it made me switch back to my iphone 6 for my main phone camera, and the burn in happens all the time when you have the screen above 50% brightness, and usually it stays on screen until you run a fixer app for an hour which is so annoying. i also found the camera had this weird affect where it would over-sharpen almost every shot i took with it to the point of unusable ness.
I have the G5 and love it. Added Google Now launcher for app drawer and really like the phone. Camera is great too. Also have a iPhone 7 from work. The LG is better at everything. But that's just my opinion
I usually agree with you Linus but you could not be more wrong here. You're bashing the G5 on points that make no sense, you're obviously only supposed to use the camera grip when you're taking pictures, and not keep it on all the time, that's kind of the point of the whole modular concept, and you're also bashing on the camera when it's on par with the S7 and iPhone (android authority even ran a blind pole where they took a bunch of pictures with different phones and the G5 came out number one) and you even said it doesn't have a gesture to launch the camera which just means you were just lazy enough not to look for one because double clicking the volume down launches the camera. Also when you have your phone on the table you can use double tap to turn it on, you don't have to pick it up. And 'high price'? If you're going to mention "high price" don't compare it to the much higher price of both the S7 and iPhone 6S. All this makes me think that you either rushed in making this review since you're already like 3 months late or you were paid to bash the phone and I don't even know which is worse.
You are crazy. I spent a long time weighing options and as a lifelong samsung user, I opted to try LG. This phone has removable everything, wide angle lense, fingerprint scanner (any direction) and lastly the IR BLASTER!! Everyone seems to have left the IR Blaster in the past but there is still some who want/need it! I love this G5. I can't speak to the modules- like you, i would imagine most ppl wont use them.
+CryztalBT Now that I remember, isn't it so that US models can't flash a custom ROM due to some lock or something? They have the 820. And TBH, I used both the 820 and 8890 version of the S7 and they're both pretty quick, although the Exynos was a little bit quicker in real-world use. I saw GB3 results on both and while the 820's IPC is higher, the 8890 isn't actually very far behind. I'd say both were significant improvements from their predecessors, especially the 820, which was a real breath of fresh air from the clusterf*ck that was the 810.
***** And I'm still wondering why LG only caters to the Europeans for bootloader unlocking.... I had an EU H815 G4. It died. Swapped for another H815, though this one is NOT from Europe. It coughed up more issues. Decided to just sell it and get the Note 7 when it comes out. *sigh*
***** The #BootloopGate issue that seems to be kinda common in the G4 community. And TBH, after Samsung released Good Lock and made some great updates for it, TouchWiz isn't really a big deal to me anymore.
Currently using the G5 right now. I actually quite enjoy it. But I do have to say there are some things here you say are valid but some that are wrong. I would recommend coming back to this phone since now it has improved recently. :D
I agree with what ropis said. The point of the review is to show why you should / shouldn't buy it and if there is a better product than that then he'll obviously say that it isn't the best. Not everyone can be a winner.
+Jellyblob The problem though, is that there isn't a right or wrong answer here. The G5 has the Snapdragon 820 and 4gb of RAM. As does the Samsung. They are the same in that. I have so far not heard of Samsung inventing faeiry dust that magically makes the same processor 1000x times better than in any other phone with the same one? It all comes down to personal preference. Samsung's screens trigger my migraines. I can't last 10 minutes with their AMOLEDS without discomfort. I want a USB C connection, because I have several other gadgets that uses them, and I like being able to take one cable with me on the go. Speaking of which, a removable battery is a must for me, it's a feature I've gotten used to, and can't live without. I often photograph larger pieces, making the wide angle lens a dream to me, because it means I can snap pictures of my work, fast and simple, without having to drag a separate camera around. The G5 is also substantially less expensive than the S7 where I live, around the equivalent of 2-300 dollars depending on the store. Do people genuinly think I should pay 300 dollars more for a phone I can't use more than 10 minutes every 5 hours, that has none of the features I personally greatly appreciate, because they themselves prefer another phone? That is just crazy talk. There should be room for everyone. The G5 is the ideal flagship for my needs, and preferences, the S7 ticks none of my boxes, in addition to literally causing me great discomfort and pain. That doesn't mean I think it's a bad phone, even if it is amongst the worst on the market for me.
***** it isn't an issue of reviewing something without consideration for competitors. It's an issue of reviewing something with heavily injected personal bias. The whole point of a responsible review is to neutrally approach a product so that consumers can make _their own_ informed decisions. All that aside, it was obvious that he was determined to be negative about it regardless of the flaws he struggled to find. Seriously: I doubt the camera is as bad as he made it out to be, and his crybabying about losing water resistance because of the removable battery was just...well, _disappointing_, haha. I would love to go back and find him "praising" the loss of removable batteries in previous reviews. The overall review was positive, but then he decided to title it "A true disappointment..." I am a fan of his and respect his opinion on a lot of things because he often speaks truth, but that doesn't mean I have to revere every single thing he does.
I"m actually using the lg g5 right now, moved from iPhone 6 and its a pretty big upgrade, had it for 2 months now and still loving it 😉 I recommend you try it for a bit ( I played with it on t-mobile, fell in love with it, tried the s7 and some others but for me this was the best one)
LMFAO same here..i love my g5, it took a ricochet 22 bullet it had a case on it at the time but at the camera and it still works perfect. I bought another one 2 months ago just haven't got around to switching to it yet. One of the best phones my wife goes through a new phone almost every year I've seen a lot of different phones. This guy is truly an idiot.
The issue you had with it laying on a table is negligence on your part, I'm afraid. There's a tap keypad mode that allows you to unlock the phone without fingerprint, while still being secure.
+DidintGiveAShit ButNowIGiveAFuck Bruh I am in the same boat as you. I jumped off the galaxy ship and had the g3. The best phone I ever had until the lcd broke. To have a working phone asap, I chose to get the g5 instead of replacing my g3. Worst decision ever.
Its 2020 and I still use the G5 as a phone over Wi-Fi at home, so I don't waste my cheaper Moto G7 play and Moto Fast ones as daily drivers. Fingerprint sensor went after 2 years, I'm on my third battery. Still like the camera for taking videos and pics. And im all for phones having bottom speakers,I find the cupping gives it better directional sound to the user. If it wasn't for a small battery and some serious overheating now, and finally getting a bit of screen burn.I'd still use it for a daily driver today. But I'm over flagships and non removable batterys,a $200 phone gives me better value and everything I need now. When I got it my friends all had S7's , but liked the G5 better, they're all about brand loyalty even if they are unhappy.
I don't agree with how you handled this review. It seemed more of "why I like the Galaxy and iPhone better" rather than a review. Just doesn't seem like a full review.
Yes, I said review 3 times.
And will most likely never buy a samsung.
really nitpicking this is why ill wait for MKBHD
Yeah, linus should leave the phone reviews to the professionals.
+Vegan MasterRace you don't need a professional to review a phone, it's his experience so he can nit pick as much as he wants
+Vegan MasterRace you don't have to listen to what he says though, it's just what he thought about it. It's still your decision
Only thing MKBHD is good for is the production value. all he does now is pretty much reading off the spec sheet and using some overused adjectives.
He lost credibility when he hated on the camera and completely left out the wide angle camera. Know what you're actually reviewing. It's one of the top cameras in the market.
It's just another gimmick, like this whole phone is.
+GU4RDIAN Bullshit. Use it and get back to me. It takes incredible photos. About 80% of my best shots come from the wide angle camera.
yes the camera takes great wide angle shot in well lit condition but not many people will use it and its weak in dimly lit atmosphere.
Hey man, if you like the phone and it suits your needs that's all that matters.
I find an easily removable battery is a lot more useful than a phone having water-resistance. Most phones nowadays (2021) are built with planned obsolescence by the manufacturers, i.e. when the phone's battery dies - Time for you to buy another one - Keep giving us lots of money. Who cares about e-waste anyway, not us, we just care about your money.
watching this on my LG G5 :(
Lik if u cri everytim
+Col. Twang333 It's a good phone, linus just doesn't like it because he likes waterproofing more than removable battery. (Me personally would take the s7 over the G5 because, well, it rains where I live and I love shooting photos in the rain). The G5 is in NO WAY a bad phone. Just wait for someone to release some good modules for this phone.
ikr :(
+•TэssэłłдtэdGцy• This.
So you hate it because it isn't waterproof (which isn't standard) and because of a shutter button module you don't have to use? Ok then.
+ropisfun still most of it can be fixed with a custom rom
Smart phones in the same bracket offer water resistance or some feature that is equally useful. Linus has pointed out that he doesn't think the features on this phone / the implementation of these features are good enough. Furthermore the addition of tech products (that we may choose to use) doesn't make it better.
What he's trying to say is that the G5 has nothing special (yes there is the removable bottom, but there honestly is no use for it.) With the same price, you could get the S7 that DOES have waterproofing.
+Larry Yuan if you want water proof just get a case. plus no phone is water proof but water resistant
stop with this custom ROM bullshit pls, once and for all. I used to flash ROMs daily a few years back but it's not what it used to be and secondly, just not needed anymore. A ROM won't give this phone a better camera, better video recording, better battery, more useful modules, hot swappable modules, better build quality, or waterproofing.
does not even mention lg g5 biggest pro: dual lens camera with ultra wide angle! this is supposed to be a review?
+Ri5ux i dont have the phone otherwise i would gladly do a review
+Αντώνης Καλοΐδης i am still on lg g2
Yeah it's suspicious.. The wide angle is outstanding.
I too use lg g2 bro it works great and I think it can hold a year more for me other then front camera it have no other complaints
+Sukhjeet Pal Singh The only reason I got the G5 was the camera. My G2 is still awesome! Feels bad to sell it cheap.
It just needed a white balance tweak.)
At the end of the review I felt I learned nothing other than the specs and that Linus has weird deal breakers for phones That's not very useful...
Also note: I don't own an LG, Samsung, or Apple device. So, I'm not biased for one over the others.
Well lucky for you, there are other reviews about this phone. Now let's move on.
i totally agree. i love this phone. i believe this guy is too much
That would be useless.
IMarkovic1995 u r an idiot..clearly a glorified fanboy of linus...
Your complains don't make any sense.
Double press the volume down button to launch the camera. Voila no kick in the balls now. (Moto has twist to launch.)
You say you love the double tap to wake phone, then you complain about the power button placement. You can just double tap, and unlock the phone through knock code or PIN! (who uses his phone on a desk anyway...)
You say removable battery vs water-resistant, but iPhones has NONE of these features.
Which is not a first for Apple.
nice comment.
+Christopher Pilcher if it were really water resistant it's silly not get it certified.
I was disappointed by the review also. Through the whole video I was thinking of solutions, like the knock code. Oh Linus..
Should be called "LG G5 phone Roast Review"
LOL
Watch all the LG monitors in Linus Office gets confiscated by LG for saying that LG G5 is sh*t
+Samuel Lim
Haha that would be hilarious
+Samuel Lim don't forget the Linus figurine
+TeeCakes and the star wars dvds
It's obvious that the only "true disappointment" shown in this video is the integrity of your channel.
this deserves a LOT more thumbs up. fantastic work with this, truly.
Gex9z while you on the other hard clearly biased toward g5
Ivan Belic Working hard? By working hard you mean saying things about the phone which aren't true and not mentioning other useful features about it?
Linus, WTF! most of your criticisms are complete nonsense! also, everyone agrees the camera of the g5 is superior to the s7 and 6s
only in low light
Sèna Gangbè
umm, so what about everything else?
How's the camera better? (just because it has more MP doesn't mean it's better btw)
Vytautas _
no, but it in this case it does. its visibly sharper compared to the s7, 6s and the htc 10. and its better in low light. imo it also has the better colors - but thats just a question of post-processing.
also: it has a wide angle camera.
it depends kn u take the picture
This wasn't a review, this was more of a personal rant. Most of the issues linus had have easy fixes. This also failed to show any redeeming qualities of the g5 which any good reviewer would have shown.
yes your review is a true disappointment
ahahahahhaha, its always fun to scroll on the comments :D
hurrdurr opinions hurrdurr disagreeing with me hurrdurr
Vytautas _ Mr. Hurrdurr, please stop trolling
how? a review is inherently an opinion of the reviewer. what were you expecting? were you hoping he'd jack off while holding the phone? or did you just want your purchase to be validated by the best tech channel on youtube?
I guess THIS is why people say LG got fucked over by reviewers.
They did it to themselves
wow je didn't even mention the dual camera. biased af. seems like samsung payed good
IT isnt really relevant , yeah it is cool to have but the dual camera isnt really Good compared to iPhone 6s or s7 edge :)
I got a feeling it's as good as the P9
***** its auto mode isn't that great, but the camera shines in the manual mode.
***** P90??? I was talking about the P9 :D
why do reviewers always complain about viewing angles who the fuck looks and uses their phone at those angles
actually i thinkl screens with bad viewing angles are good because others can not see what you reading lol
+PassbyU 👀
"Why do reviewers care about the quality of the screen" - KY LE
I think you might be a little bit special.
+TangoSheep I'm very special
some people have their phones rested flat on their desks a lot, and when a phone has bad viewing angles, it's noticeable and seems cheap. when you're paying upwards of 600 bucks for a phone, the screen better be fucking awesome, because you could argue phones ARE their screens these days
people wants to have a premium looking and feeling phone.
people defining of being a premium phone should made out of metal or glass.
BUT PEOPLE wants a removable battery.
now LG made this G5 a metal and glass phone and yet removable battery but people doesnt like it and call it UGLY.
people are crazy
+MrHeadcrab12 The back is kind of ugly but the front is awesome
+MrHeadcrab12 yeah. maybe the htc is the worst camera of the 2016 flagship phone
+MrHeadcrab12 I can understand you dont like the design, as many other people dont either.
i dont care about looks cos i m always going to carry my phone in a cool armour case
It's ugly as shit and I literally burst out laughing at that sad attempt at a camera accessory plug in.
Just bought one for $400 CAD. It's amazing so far. I do not understand your camera complains, it's amazing. I absolutely love the button at the back as well
Completely disagreed with you on the fingerprint sensor, I have a Nexus 6P and love it being on the back. Great review though.
yeah I have an LG G3 and although I hate a lot about it, the only 3 buttons being on the rear is the best idea ever. it's always easily accessible!
+HazewinDog Yeah those buttons being on the back for the G3 and 4 were really unique and useful.
I really love the buttons and fingerprint scanner on the back of my V10! Much better than the sides
i think back or side is the ideal placement for the fingerprint sensor.. that way we have space for front facing speakers, and a more clean design
FiR3Dr4g0n Indeed!
Guys go to 5:11, turn up the volume and you will hear the module moan when Linus puts in the battery
lmaoooo
"uuhhhhh" xD
LMAO WTF
It's real
LMAO
Still more ram then the 970
nice one
amd master race
chill
my 380x has 4gb and is less money than the 970
How come more RAM? 970 has got 4GB.
^^^^^^^^^
he probably get the chinesse version tho
i agree
I agree when I saw this vid I was like WTF!
bruh frfr CARDI IN MY BED
I don't have an LG G5 but I have to admit this review was pretty shit.
how was it shitty? I want to be angry too, but i don't get why people are butthurt?
He also complains about the app Drawer, when all you have to do is enable it
I feel like this was a hurried review, as it really was surface level besides the camera grip.
He complains about the button because he uses the fingerprint scanner. It's in a bad location to have to rub your finger over.
Watch his s7 review, he doesn't like the placement of the speakers there either. He even mentioned that Samsung and Apple do the same.
you the only one that said the that lg has a crappy camera
exactly
***** complete idiot
my V10 has an amazing camera
+Nick Brindle I'm trying to find a good android but my parents hate their galaxy's
Jagger Freemyer get an LG. They may surprise you. The button layouts are a bit funky at first but you get used to it.
Summary: Just a nitpicky biased review.
The whole point of reviews is to be nitpicky and biased. Otherwise you could just look at a spec sheet and decide based on that.
+Christopher Pilcher nitpicky, not biased
In this case his job is to be nit picky you should draw your own conclusions based off what he and other reviewers point out
Im still rolling with the LG G5... easy to repair, easy to replace batteries and I have an LG monitor that I use the RF blaster with ;) so its worked out great for me :)
Same. I love it.
@@baverfjant hehehe fantastic
That moment when a phone has more RAM then your PC :'(
when your pc sucks
+Jellyblob When you realist how much shit PC players talk and most PCs aren't Eben stronger than an XBox One and you realise the will be strongest and best of both worlds.
The Realist When console fanboys don't know what they're talking about.
***** Yes my PC sucks :( But hey atleast I can play CSGO and LoL :P
Munakoor Dota is better :^)
This phone wasnt as bad as you make it seem. I'd personal perfer this over the s7 however moto x did a better mod phone
moto z my bad
+Rahul Chaudhary Sorry, the S7 images are lacking detail. The sensor is 4:3 which sucks..you only get 9.1MP when taking full screen images. The sharpening is out of control on the S7. No wide angle. So.. yes, the S7 has better focus speed but images look better on the G5. I tried both BTW.
you mean moto z?
I think samsung paid him to make this review lol
dude he's obviously blind
Lol yea he is.
+Luchico638
Isn't a fingerprint sensor there to bypass your password? If you double tap to wake, you need to put in your password
back button is the best placement for fingerprint sensor and its natural too
my g3 is still pretty great
Same here! I can play any high end games and the camera is excellent.
yep, mine too. i was waiting on the g5 to upgrade, but i too was rather disappointed with all the changes. front-facing speakers on a g3 would make it a near-perfect phone for me. lookin at the v10 now...
Still, I really love the leather back on the G4, and the curved screen!
here goes my first dislike in 5 years
Not going to lie, I find it interesting that of all UA-cam, every video it contains, you decide to dislike this one only, just funny.
Hey how do you feel about having 190m views
G4's camera is better than iphone 6s though. This review is so biased.
The lg G5 looks like the G4s retarded younger brother.
LG v10 camera batter than all
+Gavin Stanford yep
+Gavin Stanford took an amazing picture on a December morning from a bus in manual. looks better than some professional photos.
Gavin Stanford same here, my friends are amazed on how pretty the pictures are coming from my lg g4
anyone hear that moan at 5:12
lol

im wet now at work thanks
Linus forgot to mute the porno...

£100 cheaper than the S7 sorry
its 400$ in my country same as oneplus 3
+ganraj kelkar it's cheaper than the 1+3 here in the philippines online, expensive on malls though.. which would u buy though? considering they're both $400?
Franz Garvez well i would go for oneplus 3
ganraj kelkar Thanks.
Have you gotten an HTC 10 to review? I'd like to see your thoughts on it.
if you are considering to buy it you should, its best overall out of any phone currently.
+Marko Paunović great HtC ad
Ivan Cossio lol i had the phone in my hands and tested it out so yeah you are saying just plain nonsense.
+Marko Paunović You are a marketing guy in HTC
+Marko Paunović I got evidence
How the fuck do you leave a phone in a school restroom!?
Just bought a brand new LG G5 about an hour ago, Still rocking it in 2020. Love it!
The previous one I had earlier this year had an issue with the motherboard
did linus even know about the wide angle camera??
Probably not
*****
You're acting like the wide angle camera has to be set up or something.
*****
Which takes more time and reproduces inaccurate pictures. I find it funny how you're completely fine with recommending using panorama mode while you act like the wide angle lens is something that most people won't use.
*****
What exactly is your phone.
*****
This conversation started with the wide angle camera.
> Uses a photography module for everyday use
> Says its only good for taking pictures
THATS THE FUCKING POINT LINUS
you didnt take into account LG's great durability w/ their phones. My G3 was still working fantastic (even after multiple drops) and now the G5 will last me many years to come
same
Huh my G4 had the boot loop issue 6 months after getting it... I know many other people did as well.
Sounds like a software issue. Their hardware is great
LG and durability shouldn't even go in the same sentence. Bootloops due to hardware failures that span across several flagship generations is pathetic
That is completely anecdotal. Unless it has some sort of certification rating for durability there is simply no point mentioning.
You really had a lot of nice things to say about it, considering the title says "a true disappointment"
Disappointment ? it got better specs than my pc ;_;
Plus I got a samsung ad..
sellout!
I doubt lol

I can't trust this review with that steve jobs wanna be profile picture.
Lmao, Ikr
Steve jobs died before Apple started going shitty
macayo ikr
apple is not shit
Shane Horne iphones are like fisher price phones in my opinion.
removable battery is the best thing ever!
I actually disagree with you on this review today.
Pretty terrible review. Just say you don't like LG and save us all time.
Isaac Newton I'm not a LG guy I got one plus but this review was very biased and full of of contradictions and it being half price just means it didn't sell as much they produced the HTC 10 was more of a flop then LG g5
Isaac Newton And how is that? This is an awesome phone...better than the S7 crap. And better than all the other G phones in the series..
Still rocking G2 and its doing well even after 4 years of usage and now i stumble across this dumbass that craps on lg for shity reasons
Didnt even mentioned wide angle camera, makes this review pretty biased ,.
Price has nothing to do with quality. It could've been poorly marketed.
I understand where he is coming from but I think it honestly depends on what you need or want in a phone I think this would be a great upgrade from a g3 just simply because I like the button on the back
I believed the review until the camera department, come on Linus, even Anandtech praised it's camera, the 6S is no match for it there, the GS7 gets a good run for its money and in good light it performs better
the camera is okay in well lit condition but the dual lense shows its weakness in dim lighting condition
"In good light it performs better."
Night is a thing. I take pictures at night. I don't want To always have my flash on.
+ropisfun the one? not very "scientific."
It's good enough to see the difference.
I like my g5 just fine.
Sounds like a personal problem.

Thanks for your totally cared about opinion on the Internet, would you like a pinch of salt with that?
+Phoenix would you like a cookie for replying?
The LG G5 will always leave a bad first impression, but it will always grow on those who put the effort to enjoy it. I believe Flossy Carter when he notes all the cons of this device, yet reinforces that the LG G5 is worth being on the same tier as the Nexus 6P, S7 and HTC 10. LG G5 won't be loved by the masses; its popularity won't see light. But its true worth and functionality will resonate within those who own this phone. If you own an LG G5, please... take people's criticisms with a grain of salt.
Watching this on my LG g5 rn.
Andrew Yoo hows the battery life on the lg g5?
Is good have mine since january and used btw
@@frankierivers7605 I used it for 1 year (+2 years my brother used it) and the battery barely lasts
Im watching. Too on G5 and costs only 90$ at aliexpress. Good battery yet atleast one day of use

LG HAS GOT THE BEST UI, I AM USING LG G2 STILL WORKS LIKE A CHARM! AND ALL LG DEVICES DON'T SLOW DOWN OVER TIME.

EXACTLY MAN! Samsung always felt like a flaky stage play to me, they always work and seem good at first but after awhile they lag like crap
+Neil “Vaktus” Turner lol i am nkt indian nor Arab ... I am from Kurdistan ;) get your shit together :P
Every decide slows down over time, then you just reinstall the os
Yeah... okay anyways one question : what about the knock-code to unlock feature ? Is it still present with the G5 ?
I understand how the button on the back is sometimes a pain, but with the knock code feature it was unnecessary to reach the button when the phone laid on its back. (talking about my G3S) -> so is there a knock code feature present with the G5 ?
it is. I just think he forgot about it.
The knock code is still around.
+Ttomisabeast he mentioned it at 7:08
andreas backman why'd you tag me when I said it's still around?
he's talking about the double tap feature at 7:08 ; as far as I know those two are different features right ?
double tap is to wake up the screen without pressing the button and the knock code already unlocks it while screen turned off
not one to usually bitch about videos but seriously
1. if your not using a custom skin on android, your practically not using android
2. the power button on the back was just great,
3. the one reason i bought mine was for my Hi-Fi module, literally the only way to get 24-bit audio on mobile
also id trade off waterproofing for a replaceable battery and SD card slot any day.
over all lit wasn't as much of a hug disappointment as it was a push for out of place innovation that LG is accustomed to, and honestly Im ok with buying memes like these
Edit
The external DAC module actually gives 32 bit audio not 24, writing this shit at 3 am
HTC 10 has a built-in 24 bit that is better.
Kevin Scott Doesn't the v10 also have 24 bit
lol your first point was so fucking dumb. not everybody wants to run a skin that slows down the overall experience.
chances are, your Android phone isn't rooted and without Xposed, both which bring out the "real Android"
Stop using on screen navigation key... it's so lame. Here you have 5 inch screen but the bottom 0.5 inches are taken by a nav bar
And still, people like it... That's the only thing I don't like about this phone.
1. Deactivate Navbar
2. Use LMT or any Pie Navigation.
Problem solved?
Use immersive fullscreen.
On screen buttons are so much better. They hide while you don't need them anyway. I have a tendency to touch s7's buttons and they send me to my home screen.
Yeah, all flagships shouldn't have that unless they are +5.5"
since when did LG had a crappy camera? I have my g4 and its still has a better camera than any iphone imo, and the front camera of the g5 is mediocre? it is an 8mp camera! whats its really good imo
LG didn't pay u so you're giving it a negative and a bad review!
The LG G5 is a great phone for a very good price
Shame on you Linus!
Nah I have it. Issues like the boot loop and lack of water protection are both problems that I have faced, and it has degraded on me and over all reminds me of the Galaxy S4
its not a good phone.
It was really the best camera at that point on a flagship phone
Screen burns (they are not permanent) ,bugs and glass that cracks really easy without protection are the main problems with the phone.
eu4eagle the camera isn’t very good, the low light performance is so bad it made me switch back to my iphone 6 for my main phone camera, and the burn in happens all the time when you have the screen above 50% brightness, and usually it stays on screen until you run a fixer app for an hour which is so annoying. i also found the camera had this weird affect where it would over-sharpen almost every shot i took with it to the point of unusable ness.
I have the G5 and love it. Added Google Now launcher for app drawer and really like the phone. Camera is great too. Also have a iPhone 7 from work. The LG is better at everything. But that's just my opinion
high price? You mean cheaper than S7 + HTC 10 and a similar price to a OP3 for me
It was more expensive at the time. I bought the phone when it was new on contract for 300 bucks so that should give some perspective
its cheaper because no one was buying it, so they had to drop the price
the back fingerprint is genius
Sorry Bro but I prefer G5 over Samsung s7 or s7 edge just because of its price to performance ratio .
right!?
Never even talked about the Wide Angle camera...
All this makes me think that you either rushed in making this review since you're already like 3 months late or you were paid to bash the phone and I don't even know which is worse.
talks about how dbrand gave them the phone to review
sells out tunnel bear 😂😂
Chrustables and his code on Amazon at the end....lol
Ltt is a business. He has employees to pay and a studio to maintain. He doesnt run on charity.
Please review the lg v20 its the g5 but good. And wtf this camera is great.
HOLY SHIT 777777 VIEWS
o w8 777177
i have the g5 its fucking great. (originally wanted the v20 but going from a op3 to a 800$ phone is annoying off contract)
xXzeal123Xx i have the g5 from sprint and its good
SpecialSnowFlake i have the g5 from sprint and its good
You are crazy.
The lg g5 is my favorite phone so far but I guess that's your opinion that you don't like it, which is kinda odd this phone is awesome
No, the phone sucked because you're an Apple/Samsung fanboy Linus :))) Your phone reviews are a true disappointment.
when it comes to personal preference, people generally prefer the better option
I'm sure he's a... Apple fan? WTH?
honestly I'd get the 8 month old 6s over this
his daily driver is an Xperia Z4 Premium Compact
Sore ass.
What about Samsung's Exynos processors
they are actually better this year xD
***** Nova Prime.
I never start using my new Android-based device without installing it first.
That includes the Nexus.
Currently using the G5 right now. I actually quite enjoy it. But I do have to say there are some things here you say are valid but some that are wrong. I would recommend coming back to this phone since now it has improved recently. :D
Trying to compare the G5 to a grenade? Yea, I'm convinced this isn't enough for a valid opinion.
Ever heard of Exynos, Linus?
Of course he does, didn't bother to mention in a video about an LG phone.
the point is he mentioned Apple, but left out Samsung..
+Fred H Samesung doesn't use Exynos in every region.
Exynos 8890 has a weaker GPU than the 820.
+Shamoy Rahman But the cpu is much better
on what planet are you living man
Man, the linking part that Linus makes from the review to the commercials, is the best lol
Yet another poor review of an otherwise good phone because "it isn't other phone muh!"
9,000 people has never owned the LG G5.
14k now
This is the only review I've seen that said the camera was bad.
I find this video to be a bit harsh @Linus, like you have a personal grudge with LG,
G5 is not disappointing, has great performance and has one of the best cameras ever.
Watching this in 2019 on the LG G5 ;)
LMFAO same here..i love my g5, it took a ricochet 22 bullet it had a case on it at the time but at the camera and it still works perfect. I bought another one 2 months ago just haven't got around to switching to it yet. One of the best phones my wife goes through a new phone almost every year I've seen a lot of different phones. This guy is truly an idiot.
The issue you had with it laying on a table is negligence on your part, I'm afraid. There's a tap keypad mode that allows you to unlock the phone without fingerprint, while still being secure.
Omggg.... honestly i think you has paid by smsung right?
Shadow FlyerYT why i have to do that?
still using the G3 and i love it ... LAME REVIEW BTW !
My G5 SE broke so I ended up getting another one. Liked it though.
at 8:07 you made me go look for errors on my new LCD screen. 2 white dots gave me horror
oh and btw. that phone is so much cheaper than the competitor samsung atm. its a good deal in europe thats for sure.
