Your deft touch and technique, really made this a timeless gem, Mike - love how velvety smooth your style is on acoustic. Your journey, growth and dedication has been an inspiration, ever since the Liphook days.
Well, Periphery, maybe it's time for an unplugged tour with 7 and 8 string acoustic guitars. We would sit on small tables, smoke cigars and drinking whiskey. I would come to an event like this! 🤘🏼
That sounds like a time!! I don't do it as often these days, but years of experience has taught me that there's seldom a better way to enjoy good music than in the company of good people and while partaking in the consumption of nicotine and alcohol. And whiskey and cigars sounds like they'd be just the ticket here!
It's kinda cliche ambient. I understand when people who don't smoke and drink got the feeling that they had to stay outside of this. But they are wrong. The question is if they can live with that for specific time. If you would throw a party without alcohol and nicotine, I can restrain myself. Accept and Respect, that's what it is all about! 🤘🏼
That's actually a good idea. I remember one time back in the day, I forgot to do my laundry. So I went to a metal core concert in a band shirt and a tuxedo pants. At club everyone was like "that's so god damn heavy metal"!
Holy shit, my wife might actually let me listen to Periphery in the car with her now. UPDATE: I GOT HER TO TURN OFF NEW TAYLOR SWIFT FOR PERIPHERY HELL YA!
This song in particular helped me deal with the death of someone who was very close to me. I can never thank this band enough for the beautiful things they create. Periphery fills me with hope. Remember lads, Don't you dare go hollow.
My condolences. I lost my best friend in September last year and this song, both the original and this version, have been instrumental in helping me deal with the grief.
This is my favourite song by Periphery. P4 came out over a year after I lost my best friend, but it still felt so fresh, and hearing It's Only Smiles felt like Spencer was sitting down with me, having a private conversation about loss. It moves me in ways no other piece of art has. Mike Dawes happens to be my favourite guitarist, and this treatment is absolute perfection. Seeing Spencer outside a show and getting to tell him what this song means to me, knowing what it means to him, was immensely therapeutic, and honestly somehow really helped me heal, even though it was a 15-second conversation. I'll always cherish that moment in the alley behind The Palace Theatre.
There is definitely auto-tune/pitch correction, but it's layered with a vocoder to simulate the backing vocals from the original - also provides a fuller sound.
Experienced a lot of loss the past few years. Saw this live the first time they performed it, and I was quite moved by it. So happy to know they sat down and recorded it fully for all of us to enjoy whenever we feel. Thank you, Spencer. Thank you, Mike.
Not much can make me sob like this did. Being in the fire service you learn how to always be stoic and "tough". Thanks for being a light in the dark! Beautiful!
This song helped me cope the loss of my beloved grandma last year. One of my favorite track from P4 but gave a deeper and personal meaning during my grief.
This song always breaks me. I lost my best friend to cancer in December and the lyrics and melodies can't NOT hit me straight in the heart. Bless you all especially Spencer and Mike for such a beautiful rendition of a beautiful song. Cheers!
Same, I lost my best friend to cancer in September last year. I can sit through listening to this one now, but if I try and sing along I become a mess.
Saw Spencer and Mike perform this live for the first time at the Wildfire tour kickoff in Anahiem. Spencer's younger sister was in the audience. Was incredible and gave me the deepest chills. Love you guys ❤
My goodness, Spencer's vocals are always magnificent to say the least but in this track the level of beauty in his interpretation is just out of this world. The feeling that's given to the overall interpretation plus the vocal production is just mesmerising! Congrats on this folks! It's awesome!
Loving you guys so much, it sounds killer smooth and I'm glad to see Mike nailing this wonderful piece. Spencer sings to my heart like any other day, but this time it's really different. Now excuse me, gotta listen to this a million times.
We've all got those things crawling Under what they perceive We know sharp fangs and they Chew in the tide alone My gut is telling me, oh, it's telling me why She'd rather see a man up than me under Rip a hole in my life, but No matter the things I do, never get over it I said goodbye from a place so far I'm under the truth Because words mean nothing to fleeting youth Rip a hole in my life when It's bringing me back to you I've been trying to work it out Gotta get away Get away from the sights and sounds Keep it on the ground i don't wanna be But just carry on and smile on through it Death is true and I'll be missing you (I'll be missing you) Advice is not always right So I've gone to tread my ways The path I've laid out is tied We're always meant to shine You left a lot of grief Now it's bleeding out my teeth Shot holes in every stone heart, oh The tones are on repeat Yet nothing's filling me It's on my chest and you're in this art My gut is telling me, oh, it's telling me why She'd rather see a man up than me under Rip a hole in my life, but No matter the things I do, never get over it I said goodbye from a place so far I'm under the truth Because words mean nothing to fleeting youth Rip a hole in my life when It's bringing me back to you I'll work it out gotta get away Get away from the sights and sounds Keep it on the ground i don't wanna be But just carry on and smile on through it Death is true and I'll be missing you Death is true and I'll be missing you (Death is true and I'll be missing you) I think I'll just smile through It all for you I've been trying to work it out Gotta get away Get away from the sights and sounds Keep it on the ground i don't wanna be But just carry on and smile on through it Death is true and I'll be missing you
So glad yall recorded these. The most recent tour with these in the sets were just phenomenal. Easily rhe best shows ive ever been to. Hop you guys do more like them in the future.
Oh my god this song is good. Beautiful. Where the hell has this song been? Love the heavy stuff, but this song is testament to the diverse song writing. Way to go for it guys.
This last time I saw you guys i REALLY enjoyed Mike. He was way funnier than I expected and seeing this collab live was absolutely unreal. You guys should feature him on the next album!!!
Seeing palm reader at trees this year was so awesome but i was so sad they were splitting up, so happy ive found this! And also made up to see black peaks guys back in the mix! What a tune!
The Prog Metal "Bono" has returned to bless us all

These two tracks turned out insanely cool. You guys write the best music. Cheers lads 🍻
I'm a huge fan of you Sir, as well as Periphery ♥♥♥
I like this acoustic guitar version ❤

Everyone dressed in suits and dresses. Some Classy shit.

It would be a good way to get Ibanez to make another 7 string acoustic again too
Mike Dawes my favorite Periphery member
😂
Love the Scarlet video reference at 0:33.
Fuck mustard
If they sold those I'd buy them
4 people entertained the taste of the red.
Mustard is better. Misha agrees with em
Love the also pretty subtle reference to the rivalry between the 2 logos they’ve been back and forth on using. The 3 dots and the P
Holy shit, my wife might actually let me listen to Periphery in the car with her now. UPDATE: I GOT HER TO TURN OFF NEW TAYLOR SWIFT FOR PERIPHERY HELL YA!
Haha me too!
She wouldn't let you in the car while she was listening to Periphery, before?
could you guys share your acoustic metalcore playlist? I dig erra, VoM, periphery
Divorce her
That’s fucked up.
P4 single handedly carried us through the pandemic depression, can't change my mind.
Hard fucking agree there. That album carried me through the roughest of times.
Pandemic depression LOL
Carry the weight of a thousand worlds 💙
1000% 🖤
Oh hell yeah work from home while listening to P4

Once again proving that you need at least 4 guitarists in a band. This one has the feels in it. 😍
Mark's riff are always so transcendental....

Gf was good mates with him for years in his early 20's. He's a beautiful and compassionate man apparently, and I think this song proves it.
Im so sorry for the loss of your sister Spencer. This is lovely song in remembrance of her.
the part at 4:00 hits so hard because that stop drop and roll from the original is already in all our heads
Two questions:
1. What the hell is this?
2. Why isn't there more of it? This is incredible.
it's only tears after hearing this :'(
I love this so much ❤
This is a voice that does not deserve auto-tune ... but classic Periphery, just having fun with it.
I believe it’s more of a vocoder than full-on autotune
It's not auto-tune, but I get ya. The layers/effects were a little much. I'm sure I'll get used to it though, it's a great version regardless.
There is definitely auto-tune/pitch correction, but it's layered with a vocoder to simulate the backing vocals from the original - also provides a fuller sound.
This is some kinda robot chorus effect lol
It calms down over the course of the song but 0:40 is a little unnecessary, as well as dissonant/out of tune. Does a bit of a disservice to Spencer.
Thank you guys for your music. Im fighting bad depression atm, i needed this. This reminded that music is my weapon against this battle.
Periphery's refusal to confine themselves to one genre is a testament to their fearless musical exploration - love this.
Reminds me of queen. Nodoubt.
Experienced a lot of loss the past few years. Saw this live the first time they performed it, and I was quite moved by it. So happy to know they sat down and recorded it fully for all of us to enjoy whenever we feel. Thank you, Spencer. Thank you, Mike.
Did not expect Angel Vivaldi cameo!
hair and makeup. lol :)
We need a whole album of this
YES! Someone pin this comment! Make it happen :D
I agree.

@@MotoHikes I'm sorry for your loss, bud. May we find the peace and strength we need. 🙏🏻

Love you guys ❤
I was there man and recorded the whole performance, it was awesome
Was there for this as well, I literally cried while singing along. So cool they released a studio version because that was a magical moment
My favorite modern metal band, my favorite acoustic player, enjoyed every second!
My goodness, Spencer's vocals are always magnificent to say the least but in this track the level of beauty in his interpretation is just out of this world.
The feeling that's given to the overall interpretation plus the vocal production is just mesmerising!
Congrats on this folks! It's awesome!
Sing it Spencer, sing it...Truly a masterpiece, thank you for making the Acoustic Singles Album official...
What a beautiful song.
Thank Mike Dawes for your talent on the guitar. This was a great rendition of this song and having Spencer sing was special. Thank you guys.

Good performance Mike and Spencer.Thank you.
We've all got those things crawling
Under what they perceive
We know sharp fangs and they
Chew in the tide alone
My gut is telling me, oh, it's telling me why
She'd rather see a man up than me under
Rip a hole in my life, but
No matter the things I do, never get over it
I said goodbye from a place so far
I'm under the truth
Because words mean nothing to fleeting youth
Rip a hole in my life when
It's bringing me back to you
I've been trying to work it out
Gotta get away
Get away from the sights and sounds
Keep it on the ground i don't wanna be
But just carry on and smile on through it
Death is true and I'll be missing you
(I'll be missing you)
Advice is not always right
So I've gone to tread my ways
The path I've laid out is tied
We're always meant to shine
You left a lot of grief
Now it's bleeding out my teeth
Shot holes in every stone heart, oh
The tones are on repeat
Yet nothing's filling me
It's on my chest and you're in this art
My gut is telling me, oh, it's telling me why
She'd rather see a man up than me under
Rip a hole in my life, but
No matter the things I do, never get over it
I said goodbye from a place so far
I'm under the truth
Because words mean nothing to fleeting youth
Rip a hole in my life when
It's bringing me back to you
I'll work it out gotta get away
Get away from the sights and sounds
Keep it on the ground i don't wanna be
But just carry on and smile on through it
Death is true and I'll be missing you
Death is true and I'll be missing you
(Death is true and I'll be missing you)
I think I'll just smile through
It all for you
I've been trying to work it out
Gotta get away
Get away from the sights and sounds
Keep it on the ground i don't wanna be
But just carry on and smile on through it
Death is true and I'll be missing you
