Keith black used to bury the early hemi's in the ground to age them .. I took a 67 hp 383 that was rusted like that and after a bit at the spa .. it's still running today .. I'm your dad's age .. we didn't throw things away .. we made it better
I'm all about fixing broken stuff. But I also have to weigh the costs, and sadly this 383 isn't in the cards right now for us financially to rebuild. So the 413 fits the bill better. If you can't tell I like collecting broken stuff and fixing it, so the 383 is in safe hands unless someone else wants it
I wish I could plant 392's and grow new ones !!! I have a 354 on a pallet that has been under a tarp for 20 years . I check on it from time to time , tarp and pallet are still in tact .
@@ScottsSpeedShop I agree cost effective wouldn't be in the cards unless it was a # matching for the car, but I was looking at the " they don't make them anymore" angle still a lot there to work with and not from a " your full of @#$& angle lol .. back in the 80's they were talking about the death of all big blocks .. I buried a ford, Chevy and Chrysler, greased them all up heavily wrapped them and buried them, I've tried finding them but I had my mini junk going so metal everywhere.. they're still down there
Who doesn't like HP surprises? I think the 383 block is salvageable and i would go for new pistons in that 413 to up compression to 10:1. That engine in the Polara will be so much fun to drive. Power to weight ratio will be fab.
I have thought about that over and over and the cost of higher compression pistons, wouldn't result in enough of a horsepower gain to make it cost effective. The 1964 HP 383 made 330 horsepower gross with small valve 516 heads, whereas the 1972 industrial 413 made 265 horsepower net, and that was with the junk flowing truck heads. So technically, this 413 with the 915 heads and the 426 street wedge manifolds, it should produce the same gross horsepower as its original 383 but make more torque, and it'll run like a sewing machine. Trust me, I always over-research and over-complicate everything I do haha
You know the 413 super stock engine's were truck engine's,they used them because of the high nickel content in the blocks.i just found that out recently.
I about blew chunks when I saw what was in the 383's oil pan. Did Cody leave it outside? I could understand if it had been a 351 W, but MoPar engines deserve better. Thank goodness the 413 is in better shape.
Unfortunately Cody's collection of running big blocks got left outside and most of them suffered a similar fate as the 383 sadly. But the price is definitely fair with the potential gamble
As hard as it is to believe both had been sitting outside in the same location and conditions of S.W. Mo. for literally 20 years... 413 was sitting up on a tire and wood blocks coverd by a rubber mat, the 383 with no intake or manifolds was sitting on wood blocks flat on the ground covered by a half barrel... It's still shocking to see the difference in condition knowing they both sat in the same location together, just the difference in the valley pan rusting allowing moisture and the rodent to set up home inside..
Hey Jed it’s been a long time, nice to see the channel growing. I have some questions if you have some time. Also might have something for you to shoot a video of. Let me know
Most all older big and small blocks are drilled deep enough the automatic cranks have a slightly smaller diameter bushing . Mopar had a bushing to fit but discontinued it . Pioneer might still have the undersize bushing . You can turn down the bigger bushing to fit . No need to drill crank or cut imput shaft on transmission p.
I need that block it is just a matter of rebuilding it 30 or 60 over. I would like to buy the rotating assembly and rods/ pistons! Are the valves junk...?
The 383 would definitely need bored, but I imagine those bores ought to look brand new at .060 over. The most wear is from the ring ridge. I'd be happy to hook you up With the entire 383, just send me an email and we can talk about it More. Chargerjezebel70@yahoo.com
I have a 66 383 R thats it’s in excellent condition and it was totally gone thru in 2014 with the 727 transmission and I found out I had cancer so I never did anything with it if y’all would be interested.
I'm very sorry to hear about your cancer man, I know what that is like to be diagnosed with it. It's no fun, I hope you get out as lucky as i did, please email me, id be happy to pay you for the engine chargerjezebel70@yahoo.com

@@ScottsSpeedShop what rear gears you thinking? I like 3:55s, grunt and good road gears.
@@mikestackhouse9001 something like that probably, I'm not sure just yet, I got to get a sure grip
@@ScottsSpeedShop Have any 906 heads?
@mikestackhouse9001 I am using 915 heads which are closed chamber 906 heads basically. I don't have any good 906 heads
Cool trick with the portapower!👍
👍 👍 👍 👍
Just seen Tony Angelo from Stay Tuned just got a '74 Polara w/a 383 in it.
Cant wait to see how this turns out, nice find🤘
Looks like that 413 will be a great engine to build
Cool , be good to see the build 👍🏽

383 hp steel crank shaft,as least the 69 super bee I restored was a steel crank.
The road to resurrection!

I’ll do that after work today!
Drop that rusty bottom end in a tub of molasses for a week and try and find rust. Cheep at feed store.
Be interesting to see how it would clean up with electrolicis
That it would
One out of two isn't bad. Almost sounds like a song.
Vinegar works the best ,thats how i do it for last 50 years all the oils never worked for me
Vinegar is excellent at removing rust indeed
A little WD40 she will be good.
I got me a nice otc Porta power air/hydraulic power unit. It's about $1000.
That 413 might be valuable to a racer. The NHRA Stock and Super Stock racers will overbore 413’s to use as 426 Max Wedges.

I'm a 383 or a 413 freak 😅
We have an 75 400 big block in our girl put your 505 in the van brother lol
👍🏻🇦🇺💯
Hey guys are y’all going to the NNN? If you are I have a gift that make you feel better about your 383😎
We are indeed going again this year, I'm trying to get a video done announcing it

Take it apart just for fun
I have a pile of big block timing chain covers. Do you want some?
Haha I don't really need any, but if you got any cool old ones or chrome ones, I'd be interested in buying those
Bore that 413 .060 and have some nice flat top pistons made and it will make a nice 426
That'll be down the road for sure
BOOST!!!!
Can you put the HP heads off the 383 onto the 413? If so, that would be pretty epic.
The 915 casting heads are considerably better than the heads on the 383, I bought the 915 heads for the 413
Yeah, I'd say so. I commented before i got that far in the video. 😂
How many people you reckon I could piss off, if i go out there and get that 383 from ya, build it, buy an old Ford F100 and drop it in? 🤣🤣🤣
@@1980bwc I think that would be rather cool actually
Wow soooo annoying he acts like he is 8 yrs old
Thanks for taking the time to leave tell me that, I'll take it into consideration.
