Anybody else wondering about the effect of the mechanicus worshipping the omnisiah which is both the void dragon and the emperor will have on the relationship since psychic energy on a massive scale can have a huge effect on the warp
The result might not have an effect on the actual void dragon but could result in a new entity of sorts a mechanicus demon/minor warp god An „order“ version of vashtorr if you will as manifestation of the mechanicus beliefs
Personally, I really hope it's Valdor. I think that would be even better than having Russ or The Lion coming back. There is also the theory that Valdor is a 'proto-primarch', that's physically similar to the other primarchs but lacking in access to free choice and the warp related abilities.
If it is Valdor (Im pretty sure it is) Then Greatest ally. The Custodes are literally incapable of betraying the Emperor. They are incorruptible, its mentiones many times, even bt their enemies, like Drach'nyen and the chaos gods. Drach'nyen - "All the stars in the universe will die and fade before a golden one (Custodes) betrays their father (Emperor)" It was also an inner monolog, so its notnlike it was "Second hand" experience, like many innacurate poetions of the lore are (Grey knights bathing in Sororitas blood anyone?) But side note Would be cool if somehow Eisenhorn allys with Valdor and enters his pocket dimension. Would love to see Eisnhorn in the Era Indomitus I believe The Novels take place a few hundred years before Guilliman and the Era Indomitus
I could say that it’s possible the spear he gave could have backfired on the emperor. He didn’t want valdor to lose his humanity and the spear was there to remind him those are people he is killing But seeing all these different perspectives overtime could have possibly undone some of the brainwashing.
@@woodlefoof2 Naw man Its in the lore many times. Custodes cannot turn againat the Emperor...even if they wanted to, they cant. Id say them not being able to vetray the Emperor until the literal end of the existence of reality, would encompass Drach'nyen
@@adrienwatson2179 I mean, I like the idea of valdor being an enemy. Just the whole, first and greatest becomes an enemy thing is just neat to me. But! one that 40k might do if they are going to make valdor an enemy. Is the mind control sub-trope of perspective manipulation. Essentially he would be working against the emperor in his actions, but in his mind he is working for the emperor, this one would make the spear he received from the emperor a far sight gift. Big E knew valdor would eventually fall for a great illusion. So he gave him that spear which would repeatedly show him the truth of things and eventually break the illusion when he saw what he had ACTUALLY been doing.
@@woodlefoof2 Ill 100% agree it would be a cool idea Especially since Valdor is Primarch level. I cannot wait for that last Bequin novel.
I’ve been learning about a lot of 40k lore through your channel (thanks for that, a lot less reading to fit in on my part). I’m absolutely fascinated by it and think you did it fair justice :) Though I’m also a fan of Chamber’s ‘King in Yellow’, so slightly biased
I am a fan of the idea, that the name-dropping of Valdor is a ruse to conceal the identity of the King in Yellow. I hope he will turn out to be the AURELIAN with yellow being the traditional heraldic substitute for gold
Just a thought: I would love to see Jaq Draco, Meh'lindi, Captain d'Arquebus, and Grimm "collected" by The King in Yellow. That would be an epic precursor to an apocalyptic grim dark war!
My guy! Another second edition soldier?! Inquisition war trilogy, space marine (Lex's Necromunda back story), deathwing, O.G G.W epicness! Abnett is awesome, Watson is the G.O.A.T.
Would be awesome for him to be Valdor, and knowing the influence Alpharius' first meeting had he could pull off this. After all, he instituted the Blood Games after Alpharius infiltrated the Palace, wouldn't be so far fetched to see him go the extra mile
the king in yellow was a collection of short stories written by Robert W Chambers and published in 1895. the collection is spooky and interesting, and for some reason the title, "the king in yellow," keeps getting picked up and used by authors. It was also used in the first season of True Detective the HBO series
It’s worth noting the King In Yellow is also a very famous book. Which references a “city of dust”. I don’t know too much about the original per se, but I’d look into it
In the beginning you mentioned a triumvirate. We now have gulliman the lion, we are missing one more to create the triumvirate and that could easily be valdor
I think it’d be really cool if he turned to seemingly attack the imperium with his forces and makes his way to terra, could even have some things where it gets tragic since he has to cut down some custodes, and he gets to the throne room, and it turns out (be it something we knew already or just learn at that moment) he was trying to awaken and revive the emperor with his true name, and thus had to be in person or something, and it could have a really cool scene with Valdor standing before the emperor, stretching his arms out and saying “NOW, AWAKEN, JIMMY SPACE(or whatever else the emperors name is)” and it being followed by a burst of power, either that or he gets there in some other way, possibly if terra gets attacked again like when guilliman cam back, and he could come in to save them and as all seems lost he does the thing and the power surge could banish all the demons, IDK I just think it’d be a cool scene
I don't play the game but love the lore, hope it continues forward rather than just spinning its wheels with everything about to hit the fan but nothing comes from it.
Really great video! I have never actually read a single 40k novel (just seems too intimidating to get into at this point) but I love 40k lore and get all of it from UA-cam videos. This has been one of my favorites. It focuses on something really interesting that very few people are covering, gives the perfect amount of context and background and tells an interesting story with opinions and guesses on how it could unfold in the future. Couldn't ask for more. I was already subbed for your shorts, but now I am going to watch through your videos to hopefully find more like this.
Would he be creating a strike force to stabilize the webway? Maybe close it up with cooperation between Cawl and Eldar, allowing Big E to regenerate, potentially also creating a different astronomicon copying the Pharos? I’m probably confused about it all, as it’s 3am and my brain is scrambled 😂
So as a completely off the wall theory, I like to think it's Dorn and that the book with his true name is a red herring. Part of this is me being a Dorn fan and wanting him to return and I know this is out in left field and definitely not going to be what actually happens. So assuming it is Valdor and he does return in some capacity I think he will be in opposition to the Imperium because of the whole worship of the emperor thing. It's also shown in a lot of books that the custodes don't really like the primarchs and think they were a mistake so he will probably not side with Bobby G. I for one can't wait for the third book, but am guessing it will be a while because Abnett has to finish the last two siege of terra books if they aren't done already.
@@SandmanofTerra agreed, also Dorn has already returned as Tyberos the Red Wake so him being the Yellow King is impossible 🤣. That is an honest joke theory that I 100% hope GW runs with. I just hope they do justice to Valdor, his storyline deserves it being such a dedicated loyalist ✅
Constantin Valdor is one of my favorite 40K characters. Iirc isn't he also the custodes that beat Alpharius in a duel when he was pretending to try to assassinate the Emperor to show how easily it could be done?
The big question is "what does he intend to do with the Emperor's True Name?" The three answers that immediately come to mind are control, kill, or revive. If it's control, I could see a number of motives, including that he has turned against the Emperor, or could be acting to repair the Emperor's damaged soul . If it's kill, again, the possibility exists that he's turned against the Emperor, but he could also be acting on some sort of secret order of from the Emperor to end his pain. If it's "revive," I could see him using Radical Thorian Inquisitors, such as Horusians or Casophilians, as agents of his will, which has not been shown so far, though I would not presume to constrain the mind of Dan Abnett. And slight correction, Graels are "reverse daemonhosts," being human flsh coated in the Warp rather than daemonhosts which are Warp entities coated in human flesh.
I an curious to those much more versed in the lore - When the Lore makes reference to a work or cultural reference outside of 40K, how much does it try to mirror that work? If it does try to mirror usually, then the play The King in Yellow would def have implications as it touches on what in 40k terms would be a fall of a great man to Chaos and the masks we wear around such a man to preserve ourselves.
If it is Valdor, then he could be seeking the true name of the emperor in order to revive him. In many mythos where beings have a true name, the invocation of a true name can give the speaker absolute control over the being in any extent, including bringing them back from death or recovering from mortal injury. In Egyptian myth, Isis uses Ra's true name in order to heal him from a snake's incurable venom. (the snake was make by Isis using Ra's saliva, that's why it nothing else would work. Because Ra was the most powerful god, a snake made from some of his essence would be stronger than any medicine or healing spell.)
Since you reference books, do you have a reading list that would introduce and better solidify the knowledge of these characters? I've loved the 40K universe for years and am just now deep diving into the books, characters & stories. Any help is greatly appreciated.
Eisenhorn is a great starting point just generally for 40K reading imo! Those books are just great sci crime thrillers. After the Eisenhorn trilogy, you have tthe Ravenor trilogy and then you're into Bequin, where the truly crazy stuff happens! If you want to learn more from there, Valdor: Birth of the Imperium is a great stand alone book and then you're onto the Horus heresy pretty much. Which I do recommend it's just very long! You can skip to Master of Mankind if you'd like, it would mostly make sense even still (there are some parts of that book that are unbelievably epic), but there would be a few things you may be missing context for.
Constantin Valdor coming back could be foreshadowing something GW confirmed for 10th. When the Codexs that they put on their timeline are released, they're getting some form of new models. If it does have huge sweeping changes to the lore, and knowing Eisenhorn who's related to this also got release (albeit unrelatedly), it could be that we get something like it when the Codex drops. Especially since a lot of people think the actual models for them would be porting over Forgeworld, and since it's a bunch of Heresy-Era Custodes, Valdor heralding their release would be pretty kickass. I know I'd pick it up as soon as that stuff comes to the table if it ever does
I think the biggest development that no-one is talking about would be Kaldor Draigo and the Terminus Decree. Isn't he free of the warp now and en route to Titan to tell his men to open it?
As a lover of the lovecraftian mythos, and Hastur being my favorite eldritch God. I would honestly be willing to try plating 40k if I could use the army of the king in yellow.
Imagine valdor returning to the throne room. Thrusting his spear on the emperor then saying "return to us (emperor's true name) then the emperor reforms as a true God.
I wonder if the emperor intended for the king in yellow to become his vessel? Just food for thought but if the emperor were to shed his mortal coil those like the king in yellow or those like whoevers behind the legion of the damned have massive potential and their capacities revealed much despite how little overall is given in general detail.
Constantin Valdor, the most loyal guardian of The Emperor. He would and could do anything at all for The Master of Mankind, including things that would be considered heresy or things that would bring ruin to humanity. Leman Russ, the most loyal dog of the Emperor's and a very good boy. He will do Almost anything to safeguard and watch over mankind as a whole. He acts vicious and he is but like any dog, he's essentially perfectly moral and will always do what he feels is the right thing to do..
@@SandmanofTerra that’s cool. I’m just barely getting into warhammer stuff. I have a buddy who is super into it, but I wanna know the lore stuff before I get into the tabletop stuff.

It's unclear what part of the 41st Millennium the Isenhorn/Ravenor/Bequin stories taken place, but I think it's all before the fall of Cadia, so I wonder how this will shake out.
He can be the greatest servant of the emperor and at the same time the greatest enemy of the imperium. The king can see the empire as a disgusting shadow of the dream of the emperor and he could want to destroy it to build it a new.
Great video. You mentioned graels have been used elsewhere. Where and when did that happen? Do you mean the daemon in service to Eisenhorn? Aren’t graels something less inherently evil?
I hope he is on the side of the Imperiam/Emperor. I feel like the threats are becoming overwhelming and some balance needs to be restored. Having the return of 2 primarchs so far is a good start. If that didn't happen then the whole thing would feel completely hopeless. I know it is kind of the theme but having some parity makes it more interesting than complete doom and gloom.
While I doubt they would do a full army for the tabletop I really hope we get a Valdor model and that he can still lead Custodes, how awesome would it be to have a proper primarch tier model for them. Maybe he could have his own sub faction that can have non Custodes units in it too or something. My major worry is he comes back and Custodes can’t use him lol
As a new observer of 40k I wonder if it wouldn't be fun to cast doubt on just how far in the future 40k is. What if it's just a few hundred years in the future?
If DA follows the literary tradition of the King in Yellow, then it's not a story that will ever be directly told, it's only ever referenced through other stories, also, traditionally, contact with the King in Yellow drives people insane, so there might not ever be a conclusion to this plot arc, just to drive 40K fans slightly mad.

It would be great if they gave him a army to play in 40k and we got a 3rd human faction beyond Imperium Vs Chaos.
From the Bequin books we already know he has Astartes with natural wings. As well as a clone army of Pariahs. As well as golden ships that sound like Custodes in spaceship form.
Genuinely one of the best Warhammer 40K lore channels I hope that revenue goes up bud
Thanks man! Really appreciate that!
Anybody else wondering about the effect of the mechanicus worshipping the omnisiah which is both the void dragon and the emperor will have on the relationship since psychic energy on a massive scale can have a huge effect on the warp
C'tan have no imprint on the warp
The result might not have an effect on the actual void dragon but could result in a new entity of sorts a mechanicus demon/minor warp god
An „order“ version of vashtorr if you will as manifestation of the mechanicus beliefs
Personally, I really hope it's Valdor. I think that would be even better than having Russ or The Lion coming back.
There is also the theory that Valdor is a 'proto-primarch', that's physically similar to the other primarchs but lacking in access to free choice and the warp related abilities.
Yeah, Valdor getting back to Terra like "What the hell have you guys done whilst I've been away?"
Oh boy , the future has some good news for you. The lion is indeed , back.
The moment Alpha Primus and Valdor meet
'Primarch of The Ten Thousand' kind of has a badass ring to it if it was true.
If it is Valdor (Im pretty sure it is)
Then Greatest ally.
The Custodes are literally incapable of betraying the Emperor.
They are incorruptible, its mentiones many times, even bt their enemies, like Drach'nyen and the chaos gods.
Drach'nyen -
"All the stars in the universe will die and fade before a golden one (Custodes) betrays their father (Emperor)"
It was also an inner monolog, so its notnlike it was "Second hand" experience, like many innacurate poetions of the lore are (Grey knights bathing in Sororitas blood anyone?)
But side note
Would be cool if somehow Eisenhorn allys with Valdor and enters his pocket dimension.
Would love to see Eisnhorn in the Era Indomitus
I believe The Novels take place a few hundred years before Guilliman and the Era Indomitus
Eisenhorn in modern 40k would be 👌
I could say that it’s possible the spear he gave could have backfired on the emperor. He didn’t want valdor to lose his humanity and the spear was there to remind him those are people he is killing
But seeing all these different perspectives overtime could have possibly undone some of the brainwashing.
@@woodlefoof2 Naw man
Its in the lore many times.
And forcing in new perspectives and memories until you don’t know who you are and whose memories were yours and whose were your victims… tbh is probably a little to cerebral for 40k having typed it out.
But! one that 40k might do if they are going to make valdor an enemy.
@@woodlefoof2 Ill 100% agree it would be a cool idea
Especially since Valdor is Primarch level.
It would bring a new Primarch level player to the table (Pun intended)
But yeah, i do doubt it, Valdor is a fan favorite and Custodes fans would be pissed.
Gaurd all the way for me, we get shunned and mistreated no matter what happens, so all good.
Valdor, the King in Yellow best line in the book is when he says to Bequin... "Don't eat yellow snow"
Oh man things are all coming together for a great war! Would like to see the Lion to wake up after Luther woke up.
He's coming I reckon!
And the return of Russ! "A great war" you say.... Sounds like The Wolf Time to me...
There's actually some debate about which of The Emperor's legs is cramping... Some believe it's the left and some are in the right leg camp and some whisper in secret it's actually Both legs!
I heard he's got a bad itch on his nuts
Numerous worlds have been destroyed by the inquisition over the war this caused
Great stuff and Valdor is right there with the Lion and Khan behind Sanguinius as my favorites. So cool and hope Dan Abnett shows the power of Valdor and how he uses Enuncia to put the hurt out besides his physical power.
to be complately honest i really hope this actually changes 40k again like the great rift in 8th edition and what i really dont want to see is in the end valdor is stopped and killed off that is a huge waste of potential.
From listening to Dan Abnett in interviews, I think it's likely the storyline will tie off. However they'll go back to it at some point in the future of 40K
@@SandmanofTerra yea i just hope the do something big for the setting like returning valdor to the game or something to that scale and not have a important character die off without something big happening in return.
especially for valdor with so much build up even with the emperor saying hes important somehow but if dam abnet ties up the story and valdor just dies without achieving something big that will be very disappointing
@@YOGI-kb9tg Agreed
No way they kill off Valdor for no reason
There is some serious prophecy/Future sight around him
The Emperor thought he wad so important he moved all his armies across continents during the Unification wars just to look for him.. and the Unifcation wars were serious business, with Dark age weapons that the Emperor even banned his own Legions from using
So exactly what a contemporary GW would do, waste potential for a perceived short-term benefit.
@@adrienwatson2179 It's GW we are talking about, _of ccourse_ they would. Just look how they ended Warhammer Fantasy. Many beloved and established characters killed, so to say, off-screen or dying while behaving in ways they never would have. Then GW forgets that Gork&Mork are _two_ gods with _two_ prophets and simply forgets about one of them completely, ooops.
I would not be surprised if Valdor dies because he is stumbling over a rock and breaks his neck, in order to then release a new 'Warhammer 40K Chaos Rock' model that costs twice as much as its own weight in gold.
He’s definitely preparing to retake the webway. It says that bequin can see ships going off to fight chaos while she’s in the kings realm
I think the Sandman exists irl. He recently awoke from his stasis/dormancy. There are many variations of him getting about and spreading their ideas
It's great to see these long videos on lore appearing now. Keep it up m8!
Thanks very much!
@@SandmanofTerra no problem! I guess you could say, given you're called sandman that this is quite the dream come true for the channel! (Yes the joke is bad lol)
I've read all the books mentioned here and I have to say I am fairly convinced that Valdor is working some endgame scenario to rise up in support of the Emperor, but what form that will take and how he's been led to forming a huge secret organization that is using heretics and traitors is what I'm super interested in. I cannot wait for that last Bequin novel.
Me too!
They’re only heretics post Big E becoming a battery.
The Big E would work with anyone to achieve his goals.
I’ve been learning about a lot of 40k lore through your channel (thanks for that, a lot less reading to fit in on my part). I’m absolutely fascinated by it and think you did it fair justice :)
Though I’m also a fan of Chamber’s ‘King in Yellow’, so slightly biased
Thanks so much!
After watching amber kings channel and the : who is Constantine Valdor? Video. The possibilities of this have my mind racing
It's a very exciting time!
@@SandmanofTerra indeed brother
If the King in Yellow came, then even the gods of chaos would know fear
It’s worth noting the King In Yellow is also a very famous book. Which references a “city of dust”. I don’t know too much about the original per se, but I’d look into it
Yeah, GW has a habit of "borrowing" other ip at times 😂
With everything H.P. Lovecraft prepare for greatness but also rascism 😂
He might also be trying to revive or clone sanguinious, the winged blood angels being inferior clones.
I havnt seen "Penitent" and the king in yellow covered anywhere else on youtube, much appreciated!
It's unbelievably under explored!
In the beginning you mentioned a triumvirate. We now have gulliman the lion, we are missing one more to create the triumvirate and that could easily be valdor
sounds to me that valdor is simply making the mother of all bloodgames
I think it’d be really cool if he turned to seemingly attack the imperium with his forces and makes his way to terra, could even have some things where it gets tragic since he has to cut down some custodes, and he gets to the throne room, and it turns out (be it something we knew already or just learn at that moment) he was trying to awaken and revive the emperor with his true name, and thus had to be in person or something, and it could have a really cool scene with Valdor standing before the emperor, stretching his arms out and saying
“NOW, AWAKEN, JIMMY SPACE(or whatever else the emperors name is)” and it being followed by a burst of power, either that or he gets there in some other way, possibly if terra gets attacked again like when guilliman cam back, and he could come in to save them and as all seems lost he does the thing and the power surge could banish all the demons, IDK I just think it’d be a cool scene
00:44 wtf, you aren't made out of sand? 🤯
I can assume many forms
Where do I find out about the Daemons in the webway that the emperor is fighting back?
But are we ever going to find out what happened to those missing ONE HUNDRED BANEBLADES!?
Thanks so much man! It's really nice to read comments like that
Would he be creating a strike force to stabilize the webway? Maybe close it up with cooperation between Cawl and Eldar, allowing Big E to regenerate, potentially also creating a different astronomicon copying the Pharos?
I’m probably confused about it all, as it’s 3am and my brain is scrambled 😂
You have a very satisfying voice! i see henry cavill in my head geeking out when i hear your voice
Ah thanks!
It sounds cool, but I've read enough Dan Abnett to know he would never write a red herring like that
@@SandmanofTerra agreed, also Dorn has already returned as Tyberos the Red Wake so him being the Yellow King is impossible 🤣. That is an honest joke theory that I 100% hope GW runs with. I want Dorn to return but not 30k siege of terra Dorn. I want terrifying "I'm here to build walls and murder traitors, and I just ran out of bricks." Dorn.

Loving your theory and that’s the same as mine, he had a plan given to him by the Emperor to fulfil in his absence of power, perhaps even as a “cementing the way before my return”, it’s promises great things towards the Lore.
I an curious to those much more versed in the lore -
When the Lore makes reference to a work or cultural reference outside of 40K, how much does it try to mirror that work?
That's what I believe too!
You can skip to Master of Mankind if you'd like, it would mostly make sense even still (there are some parts of that book that are unbelievably epic), but there would be a few things you may be missing context for.
bro you did a really good job at explaining things
Thanks man!

I know I'd pick it up as soon as that stuff comes to the table if it ever does
Would be epic!
"Adopted Primarch" XD

I think the biggest development that no-one is talking about would be Kaldor Draigo and the Terminus Decree. Isn't he free of the warp now and en route to Titan to tell his men to open it?
So he is largely free, but not heard of his desire to open the box. If you can give me a reference I'll check it out?

As much as I'm dying to watch this, I'm midway through those books
Absolutely fair enough! Hope you enjoy them
Constantin Valdor, the most loyal guardian of The Emperor.
What if it’s actually Hastur?

It's unclear what part of the 41st Millennium the Isenhorn/Ravenor/Bequin stories taken place, but I think it's all before the fall of Cadia, so I wonder how this will shake out.
It is confirmed that it was the fall of Cadia, but the consequences of what happens in the books will have a vast impact on the storyline of 40k
Is it a coincidence that the King of Yellow is a name of an eldritch being in Lovecraftian lore?
We will see! Wouldn't surprise me if there's some cool connection
What if the Grey Knight's Terminus Decree contains (potentially among other things) the Emperor's true name.
If the spears, the Lion Sword and Vulkan's hammer are keys, most likely to the Golden Throne, what will they do to the Throne?
Would be incredible!
As a new observer of 40k I wonder if it wouldn't be fun to cast doubt on just how far in the future 40k is. What if it's just a few hundred years in the future?
They'd have to change the name I imagine
What a great video. I really liked it. Cheers.
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for watching
😂 I love it. I will say though he has said it'll likely change 40K
