For anyone coming across this channel in 2024, the information and teaching techniques are still relevant. I had actually skipped over these videos earlier in the year when I started my courses, but now they're done and I'm lost, I've been digging into anything I can find. Thank you so much for these videos!
I'm glad these are helpful for you, and thank you for validating these lectures. We will be putting out a new series in 2025, but not too many changes in the general guidelines.
Same, penn foster was basically confusing from start to now, I’m on my exam review before testing and this channel was a blessing.
@@AMCIMedicalCoding Look forward to the new series! Found your channel through recommendation by Shamyra. Great introduction indeed! God bless.
@@FromThe7thFloorme too I was confused with Penn Foster courses
And now I feel lucky to have those videos
@@AMCIMedicalCoding
I'm confused as to the Bubblegum Phobia.
F40.8 is unspecified Phobia.
The doctor specified the Phobia.
Wouldn't F40.298 be the correct code?
F40. As the boss code follow it down
F40.2 Specific (isolated Phobia) red box go down
F40.298
(Other SPECIFIED Phobia)
Sorry I don't have any books yet so trying to remember what was on the screen.
But F40.298 also fits the NEC of 9 being the 5th character and 8 being the 6th?
This is the best teacher I have had in all my years of college and/or getting certificates. God bless her!
Thank you very much!!!
agree to this
I agree these videos are amazing and extremely helpful‼️
So true.
Hello do you have online courses@@AMCIMedicalCoding
I'm learning so much here compared to the actual course I signed up at AAPC. I have a learning disability and your videos give me an amazing learning experience. I was afraid I won't pass but your teaching techniques are giving me so much confidence. Will there be a part 4? :) Thank you so much
I agree with everything you said! I pray there’s a part 4 as well because she is one of the greatest instructors I’ve experienced.
Well said i totally agree she is best
Same!
Hi frances
I totally agree! She is a fantastic instructor! I just viewed this to see if I could possibly do it and she has given me the confidence I need to sign up for the course and take the certification test. I wish she could be by my side throughout my learning experience as I move toward certification.

I took a course AND i even passed my cpc-a BUT the information given here is soooooo digestable and well paced and comprehensive!!!!!!
Great work Miss Jay. You make the course way too easy to understand. My paid classes are more of a formality now. Your teaching skills are top notch. Thanks a lot .
A lot of vlogger are annoying, u are straight forward and clear
I took a course, but I gained more valuable insights from you than from the course itself! Thank you immensely!
You're very welcome!
Agreed... I love the slides and detailed explanations, much easier to comprehend.
OMG, you saved my life with your videos! I was on the urge of giving up until I ran across your content. I was so frustrated and confused because I'm taking self study online courses through AAPC. I work at a hospital and looking to get promoted within from a CNA to a CPC! Thanks so much!
You are the best. I love your teaching greatly. You explained more clearly than my paid classes. Thank you Mrs.
I was almost in tears a few times with my online course! You made it so clear. Thank you.
Glad it was helpful!
Wow.. You are a great teacher! I am thinking about switching into a coding career. I have a medical records background. Your enthusiasm definitely makes me feel confident that I should do this! Thank you for your time and dedication Ms. Jay!
I feel like many others here, I’m learning so much here compared to the actual classroom with a coding professional coder. Thank you for the great video you created and are sharing with us.
Glad to help!
I have studied guidelines for almost 3 or 4 months but didn't get any valuable knowledge but after listening to your videos I think I am professional coder now 😂 your way of teaching is outstanding and awesome ❤
We are so glad to help!
You are absolutely made for teaching this course. you can tell you really love what you do. You want others to get this and you add extra, helpful, well thought of things that just stick with you and you remember because you explained it well or thought of a nifty way to be always sure of ourselves and especially love the three parts that show you what the main category. I was already in school for Medical Coding and Billing in 2011 and a mother of 3 daughter when my father passed away unexpectedly while i was in college about 3 in the morning with my children right there i woke to trying to save his life and get medical help to us with my kids right there. I was 75 percent done but left trying to save my home after losing my Daddy to Ventricular Standstill. So now, I am going to go on back and just bringing what I can on my credits. You make the course more interesting because you are passionate, thorough and encouraging. You inspire me. i have sat through a few of your vids and subscribed as well as successfully took the quizz
es.
I'm sorry for your loss and I hope you're in a better place. We try to encourage everyone to complete the course. Mrs. Jay teaches to all facets of learning! I'm happy that you enjoy our content, and we look forward to helping you on your coding journey.
Ive watched part 1 and now part 2 and I will say, the way you teach help me to actually understand ICD 10 coding better than the course I took. Thanks so much!!!
We're glad we could help!
Thank you for this. I'm currently doing the self paced CPC course through AAPC and not even half of this information is even discussed in the modules. You break this down perfectly!
Thank you for watching! Glad to hear that you find this video helpful.
"The amount of time you spend on getting rid of the "Apprentice-status" is better spent getting the CCS® Credential. "
I couldn't have said it better. Recruiters are rushing me to get the "A" off my CPC and COC- certifications but they don't understand I don't have experience and employers refuse to train like they should so I have made it MY job to master this stuff so I can ask for my time's worth in compensation.
I couldn't thank you enough for the time & effort you put into breaking down this heavy content with such astounding clarify. I know it cost you tears we don't see. God Bless you
Thank you for your kind words. We are so happy to help!
What an absolute gift this channel and Mrs. Jay are.
I haven't enrolled in school yet but I was only researching a possible career change and with your great ability to teach I will be changing careers. Thank you
Thank you so much for your kind words. If you are thinking go enrolling check out: amcicoding.com
You are the best teacher to teach Medical coding everything comes so clear to me. It is giving me so much confidence to take my AAPC exam
So happy I found your lessons here. I was feeling extremely stressed and discouraged about the current course I’m taking Through the AAPC - finding the teaching not especially helpful or geared toward how I best learn and process information. The way you explain things and Methodically go Over example's just makes learning this information so much easier & enjoyable.
Your teaching techniques are outstanding, such clear instruction, you are my favorite instructor now. Thank you.
Such valuable information, great teaching as usual. Thanks, can't wait for part 3.

Glad to help!
Ma’am you are truly doing the lords work with your courses. I’m understanding everything clear as day. Thank you SO much.
So happy to help!
1:19:20 I'm confused at your given example on Sequela. Isn't the M12.572 is the late effect(traumatic arthritis) which is the present condition and not S82.892S(fractured left ankle) which happened in the past?
Agree. Fracture happened first and then the sequale is arthritis
Me too confused here
I was thinking the samething.
I continued watching, I think that is what the 7th digit is used for.
me too - got confused here also
I have learned more from these video's than I have my whole Coding1 class. Thank you!!

You are the best.. thank you for helping me with your class is amazing how I learn more with you....then with my class
Thank you so much!!! We at AMCIMEDICALCODING appreciate you
I start classes this fall and this is so helpful I know nothing about coding. thank God I have some med term and anatomy and physiology knowledge. I would be so lost.
You got this! and Thank you
Thank you for making this easier to understand. In reference to coding the sequela, you stated the the sequela is coded after the original condition, however (1:34:24), I noticed you coded the arthritis due to the fracture first then the fracture. Please clarify. Thank you
You are very welcome....The Tramatic arthropathy is the sequelae...It gets sequenced first followed by the injury (with the 7th character S)
@Yujin Yes, the fractured left ankle caused the sequelae so you would assign the sequelae indicator to that accident code. In essence. You would sequence the late effect illness/condition being treated first, followed by the sequelae of the injury second. When you think about it, it completely describes what happed.
@Yujin The chief reason for the encounter should drive your sequencing and the red instructional notations. Why is the patient at the encounter? When no other guideline drives your code selection, always remember to sequence the chief reason for the encounter first for outpatient visits.
It can be read as traumatic arthritis as a (sequela of)ankle fracture, so that the sequencing makes sense. The term sequela is connected to the cause (although it would make better sense if it was connected to the late effect instead). But the guidelines appended the sequela to the cause so thats how we code it.
@@AMCIMedicalCoding so TA is the reason for the encounter, so it is coded first, even though it is the real "sequel" or sequela to the Fracture...the "S" at the end of the Fracture code signifies that the Fracture is not the sequela, but has a sequela (the TA). But TA (the actual sequela) is coded first bc it caused the encounter. Is this right? Thank you!
This Lady is absolutely wonderful!!!!!!!

Thank you so much for your videos!! You are very helpful. I’m going to watch these videos over and over so I can pass the CPC Exam. Bless you! 🙏🏻❤️
condition- fracture ankle :sequel(late effect)-arthritis.
according to point 4 in slide at 1:19:19, the code must be
( s82.892s, m12.572 )
This is the guideline: s. Coding of sequela generally requires two codes sequenced in the
following order: the condition or nature of the sequela is sequenced first. The
sequela code is sequenced second. So the Nature is first ( M12.572) followed by the Sequela (S82.892S). We apologize for the confusion.
@@AMCIMedicalCoding Thanks for the reply.
@@AMCIMedicalCoding But how come the fracture is the Sequela? I'm sorry but i don't understand.
I’m sorry but this is still NOT clear. At 1:14:00 it states that the Arthritis is the sequelae. And it states that the sequelae (late code) is coded second and should have the S as a 7th character. Can you please explain this further? It is very obvious that the Ankle Fracture is NOT the sequelae so it should be coded first.
I now look forward to my future because of your helpful videos, thank you so much.
You are so welcome! Happy to hear that!
Awesome teaching technique hands down the best.
Glad you think so!
Thanks for the lessons Mr jenni
Thanks!

im learning so much! thank you so much!
Great videos. So helpful. I love Ms. J!
mam there is a mistake at 36:03
other specified is for NEC
un specified for NOS
QUESTION: Would F40.298 also apply, (9 is the 5th character and 8 is the 6th character), which also states "Other Specified Phobia" ? I am in training and just wanting to clarify if this could be coded in more than one way correctly. Thank you!
Please reach out to AMCI Customer Service for coding assistance. Their contact information is located in the description box above. Thanks

28:22 in the a.i. a manifestation code cannot be a principal diagnosis but has to be coded? I’m confused
Thank you so much for these videos! I signed up at my community college and they handed me books but that is all no teaching. I have to teach myself.
You're going to ace it! Thanks for joining us!
@35:39
Isn't it NEC at other codes and NOS at unspefic code??
Someone Correct me if I m wrong please
Great Instructor!!! THANK YOU
Thank you!
1:18:00 I'm confused on the sequela portion. You said sequela means sequel like a movie but you put the S on the end of the code for the diagnosis that happened first in the example. And You called the fractured ankle the sequela.
Great Question. Try looking at this : ua-cam.com/video/ihgwwSgPuGM/v-deo.htmlsi=NAxuj4E-20isfRWS
Hi, I don't understand the sequela. This is what is happening AFTER another acute event. So the Fracture of the ankle was the Original and Traumatic Arthritis happens 6 months later. I would code TA as sequela and fracture first. Can you please clarify? Thank you
If a person has an acute injury such as a fractured leg. Then they develop Arthritis, and they were being treated for the arthritis, you would code Traumatic Arthritis first, then the Fracture code with a S as the 7th character extender. I hop e that helps.
@@AMCIMedicalCoding Not much. The fracture was first and arthritis is a consequence of that (sequela). Arthritis is second, fracture - first. I don't get it why it is the opposite. Sorry :(
@@marinadanilina3275 thats ok darling thanks for giving us your opinion on it 😁
@@AMCIMedicalCoding Thanks Ms. J :) I am confused too. So here the fracture would be considered a sequela, even though it occurred before the TA?
This had been so helpful. Thank you.
You're so welcome!
This helped a lot thank you!
I went to school already back in 2016 and graduated, so im trying to re learn everything but all my books are from 2016 years like my cpt, ic10 cm and all, my question is are they still good for learning in 2021???
Not really, there are several new codes e.g., COVID-19 with a whole set of new guidelines. I hope this helps
Ms j do u teach a medical billing codeing class or a medical assist class if u do what can I look on for your classes if u do
We apologize we only instruct and exam prep for the CCS-P, CPC and CCS, however we teach insurance and billing ,but it isn't designed for real world coding.
HI AMAZING CLASSES AND I WANT TO KNOW ICD 10 BOOK WHICH ONE CAN BUY PLEASE GUIDE ME
Great teaching and information, however I was lost with punctuation, brackets and colons. I'll just have to go over it several times. Thanks for these wonderful teaching videos!
Check out our channel!
You are Amazing 🤩 thanks a lot!
You're welcome 😊
lost sound when it got to the part of SYMBOLS (49:56/1:34:24)
Please how can i buy a book for practicing more codes? I’m not a student at your institution. I need to practice more coding. Please advise?
Got confused with the Sequela (late effects). It says here - "patient fractured his left ankle 6 months ago, today, he has traumatic arthritis in his left ankle in which the Dr. Says it is related to the fracture"
Meaning, traumatic arthritis is the late effect or the sequela of the fracture he had 6 months ago right?
With that in mind, the code should be S82.892S, M12.572.
Please enlighten me if this is wrong.
You are amazing, thanks so much for your help.😃
Hi Mrs Jay I want chapter specific guidelines pls
you are amazing!!
