Rewatching the beginning of Penacony with hindsight makes me realize there were a lot of hints to the story from the beginning that I had missed.
I'm glad I started watching Mage playing star rail because I realized a lot of things and noticed stuff I missed.

everytime i watch penacony story, it leaves me shocked that this was aventurine's VA first role.. hes incredible, you'd think he has been doing this for years 😭 i love his and ratio's dynamic, they're so funny to me. aventurine is also veeery heavily implied to be romani,,, is what ''sigonian'' means in this universe

52:19 The guy who blew up the train into two pieces is Aha the aeon of elation. Back then when Akivili was still around Aha was best pals with Akivili and as Aha is a prankster, to troll the express Aha exploded the express into two pieces just for fun. This is lore you can find in the simulated universe if you encounter Aha. By the way, if you buy that dreambubble you get a side quest, you go and give the bubble to PomPom in the express and get jades for it so yes while 100k is a lot jades are still woorth it
At 50:01 the va was actually asked why she was talking like that. She said that they weren't given very clear directions and she was told to do some sassy type voice iirc
She was told that she would be speaking after having done something “very bad”

BTW beware some quests have optional dialogues/events, for example, you chose to talk to the bird right away, instead of doing the optional quest of asking Firefly to take your photo, so you missed that
Later in, there’s a MEGA lore drop that is only available in optional quests, and if you miss it, it's gone forever
Yeah, Penacony has some very "choice sensitive" moments where if you don't pay attention to the options you'll miss on a lot of stuff
Fun fact the Akivili Dream Bubble with Pom-Pom and All IS actually a reference to Kafka's Myriad Celestia Trailer The Jepella rebelión just changing the intergalactic warcrimes for mischievous deeds.

Just as a note/reminder of why Ratio and Aventurine know each other- Ratio is a member of the Intelligensia Guild, which is a Subsidiary of the IPC. So technically, Ratio is an IPC employee (albeit has nothing really to normally do with the financial side).
Also, "Penacony" is a contraction of "Penal Colony" (because it used to be a prison)

Its Aha, The Aeon of Elation who caused the Train to blow up, They waited for a year or more disguised as a nameless. Aha And Akivili has that Aeon To Aeon buddy Relationship where people ship them due to how Aha really cares for Akivili and tried to mourn for their death despite their concept not allowing them to.

Is aleady explained but not in a clear manner, penacony was a prison that part you know but the owner of the prison was the IPC that is the corpo aventurine works for, now penacony is a hotel that get a lot of money so the IPC want it back for them!

★The following text is not necessary for understanding Penacony and currently any future main quest. But because of its great impact in the story of Star Rail universe, I decided to summarize the lore of this event. (I used Lalody's Lore simulated universe videos as a base)
Simplified Summary of the Swarm Disaster Part 1
Pre Swarm/birth of Tayzzyronth:
Around the start of the mode, is introduced the Order and Beyond the sky choir, followers of Ena the Order (the choir is an allusion of the Choir of Heavenly Angels of biblical stories. I have a theory that they are likely the origin of the Halovians that appear on Penacony, like Robin and Sunday). The Propagation appears with depiction of cries similar to infants, which becomes more important later.
Aha messes with an unknown genius, and also a lot of people during this event, but it is going to be an even longer comment if mentioned. (Fun fact, at some point, The Elation wanted to trick Akivili so they pretend to be human, and blew up a planet and half of the express).
Ouroboros the Voracity is visualized for the first time, which is Qlipoth the Preservation nemesis, considering their fight to protect the universe from leviathans (cosmic beasts that devour everything, seemingly existing before the birth of Aeon. Also their remains were used by the Antimatter Legion to create the first boss of the game), and Ouroboros is both a leviathan and an Aeon. Around this time, Qlipoth warned his Architects to repair the barriers of star systems.
Images of shadows flicker between insects and Melchiez adopted sons (he is likely inspired by a Melchizedek, a christian figure, meaning they're from a civilization likely loyal to Ena). It's revealed that the Swarm originated from the Lepismat star system armies, essentially confirming that the propagation insects are actually transformed humans.
An elydichnan soldier witnesses the advent of the new age, the Swarm going to the sky, seemingly a colossal eye was also observing everything, being The Order.
We learn of an isolated island named Mandalan, the first world that the Swarm descended after their ascension, being their original breeding place. There's was great increase of newborn babies on the island that all turned into bugs, creating a swarm through the sk. An evacuation happened on Lapole major (I think it's a nearby city) but one woman refused to leave, her name was Melchidek, which lost her children to the swarm. She ended up raising an insect as her own child, which makes her house flooded with her new babies. We discover later that her home was destroyed by the Swarm and inside, there were 87 tiny garments and over 7000 pairs of small shoes, her children never returned and she finally cast herself into the dark cloud that enveloped the sky, the Swarm.
Now the Swarm Disaster finally started, leading to one of the biggest events in history.*

Excited to see you experience Penacony for the first time 🎉 Seriously this region is truly amazing. And you know, you're right about Inception! Fun fact but during Penacony livestream, devs even put a little easter egg with a spinner toy from Inception when talking about dreamscape 😂
Just a little side note because it's not explained anywhere in the story. In Chinese and some other languages Sigonian means gypsy/romani so when you encounter stuff like Ratio conversation and so on... It's basically ethical discrimination/hurtful stereotypes based on real history. Penacony story is really great about that, like you said the surface is really pretty but there are indeed weird and serious stuff going on.
If you buy the dream bubble you can replay it with different voices. I picked Trailblazer because I'll never pass up a chance to hear them talk, but Himeko is definitely the standout. Firefly wasn't kidding about the dream car thing either, you really can buy one from one of the shops.
And "The Tavern" Aventurine mentioned is where those Elation followers who Rickrolled you in the databank hang out.

Harmony Path is available to everyone after "Jarilo-VI - The Return" which is the Cocolia fight. You can select to have it enabled from the Events tab. If it's a matter of leveling up traces, you can do it way before getting to Penacony.
The more relevant part is that Harmony and Preservation TB do not use the same materials at all so you can use the Preservation materials if you want and it won't impact the Hamony ones. Can't say the same for the credits though.

So 1 as ppl said the one that blew the train was Aha the aeon of elation, 2 the Astral Express badge is on your upper chest it looks like a golden train ticket, 3 if you bring Pom Pom thay dream bubble you get an achievement and some dialogue, 4 yes she's Firefly and ihdk where you heard her name, but it seems you didn’t hear any spoilers or you forgot because of your reaction, 5 did you not get the Yamcha reference (I didn’t as well first but only because I hadn't seen anything of early dragon ball) and 6 there was a good stopping point "AFTER" the slot machines...I just hope next video uou make it extra large so we can see at least all the stuff that ends 2.0...

Penacony in general is supposed to represent the US, just as the Xianzhou represents China and Belebog…idk Russia or something. Hence the whole “land of dreams” as well as Acheron’s message of false realities (not everything is what it seems)

One thing they don't clearly explain when you start, is that in the Dream you can look like anything. Beastar isn't really a bear, just someone panhandling for hugs (I think). I mean, that's their idea of a good time I guess. There is, of course, a dress code of sorts so you can't be too wacky-looking or upsetting to other people, obviously.
There are several characters you meet who are not as they appear in the dream. :3
