Hey Rob. If you ever need wheels redone, check out Wheel Covers Unlimited in Windsor, ON. In the summer I worked there we took care of a ton of insurance claims on Cali and NY wheels, as well as most of a "recall" on certain GM truck/SUV rims that corroded about 3mos after you bought the truck. I watched the guy in the back of the shop fix a chunk taken out of a lambo rim with the tig welder before he threw it on our CNC lathe to cut it back to original spec. Once we painted it, you couldn't tell we worked on it and it cost the insurance like 1/5th the price of a new wheel.
Rob, I've done composite repair for an aerospace company that sounds like boring, minus the r. Carbon Fiber can be repaired, not exactly easily, but it's been my job to do it and make it able to fly at 40k+ ft without breaking for 3 years. It doesn't cost 100k$ if my wage is anything to go by. Sand it down to where the break ends, re-lay those graphite layers, cure it, sand it smooth, fill in any defects, paint. Takes me like 2-3 days. With exposed graphite like on most cars, that's just a top lay to basically make it "look" like graphite, all the integrity and repair work would be under that. Super simple.
Rob - you have EXTENSIVE knowledge about car insurance. As an insurance agent, I am impressed with how much you know. That being said, why don't you have them deal with your car insurance company and let them weed out the fraud? This is too big of a claim and too easy for them to win. Just like you, they know in order to go thru insurance they have to give the insurance company the ability to inspect the claim. If they really just fixed the car without allowing you the chance to inform your insurance company then its on them!
I thought it was weird that they had parts to fix the car that fast. I always hear about how it took x amount of days to find/receive basic repair items
Hi Rob Where I come from in Canada the basic insurance is part of the provincial government and you have the option of private insurance for any insurance over that. As a vendor I have to follow there rules that are usually fair. When I submitted a bill to the insurance company I had to have copies of the receipts for any parts I replaced on a claim. The only exception to that was if say I’m a Yamaha dealer and I supplied a Yamaha part. Also about twice a month they sent a guy around to collect the old parts regardless of condition and they would sell them along with the total write off cars at auction. You should be allowed to have copies of the bills for parts and the right to the old parts. That would eliminate that whole situation. Just my 2 cents
2:27 Honestly the truest statement I've heard. But just like any other job, there are those who are clean and honest, and there are those who scrape for every dime and nickle.
Yup, at work we are required to give back all old parts back to the collision shops when we do repairs for them. Also for regular customers we save parts until the vehicle leaves, as it is the customers legal right to request the old parts.
Could you possibly verify new part numbers on an old car to see which parts have been changed out or do they use the same part number so you can’t tell the dates?
We told ya last video, it was sounded sketchy, when he was able to get parts in days for a company who usually spends months to send. Imagine this happens a to a naive person with no following and sources like rob,.
I’m sure they already burned other people. This is how the semi truck trailer rental business works. Company a rents a trailer and returns it. Rental company charges for brakes and tires and other damages. Company a pays and moves on. Rental company re rents trailer and domes t replace anything. Then charges the next trucking company who rents it. It’s a common scam in semi truck trailer rentals.
Just checked the adventure drives site. Didn't realize $6,500 didn't include a car? Realistically a $15,000+ vacation. That's a down payment on most mid -upper level sports cars. Love the channel, but wish it'd be more affordable. Even if it'd be something like a Supra. It would be awesome to get a car included at that $6,500 price tag, I feel like it'd open the market up a ton too. Hope you're doin well, Rob!
Doesn't work quite like that and it depends on what insurance company you have. The one I work for, we'll write the estimate for what needs to be done to get it back to the condition it was prior to the loss. If the bumper is repairable than we write for repair, not replace. If the insured wants to replace it instead, they are more than welcome to but the difference will be out of pocket. Also, if the customer chooses to cash settle instead of repair it, we don't care and doesn't matter if we wrote for repair or replace.
all parts a catalogued with serial numbers? that can be validated from McLaren, payment receipts etc and also ask for video evidence from body shop doing that repair.
In my country (Poland) some car rental company sign agrement with costumers if they drive faster than 90 mph then they lost deposit. Of course agreement preview on their website doesnt contain that line. Owner od that rental company is alredy arrested for that.
This is so simple to solve, ask garage who repaired car for invoices from Mclaren for all parts.....his paint and labour you can judge if that is reasonable and check invoices with Mclaren to make sure the parts have not been returned. If someone wanted 100k for job, insurance company would want invoices and may not pay out as wasn't approved in advance. Is garage even a Mclaren approved bodyshop as they wouldn't probably even be allowed to oreder parts as other Mclaren owners have experienced.
@5:07 Incorrect sir. If you own the vehicle outright, you are NOT obligated to perform the repairs with the money the insurance company compensates you with. If you negotiate a higher reimbursement than their original offer then that is just called good negotiating and being an advocate for YOURSELF!
Pay that company nothing for now. Make them prove their case. Get your insurance co. involved maybe. Insurance company's don't like cheats or being cheated either. Get his insurance co. involved. Those wheels definitely looked repaired, I could see the orange peel in the black. OEM black wheels are smooth from the factory like mirror smooth, You can tell it was resprayed in the small clip you showed. Look at the lip of the wheel as the sun hits it.
Should be simple take to court. They will ask for the parts or if got “thrown away” order numbers and see that parts were never ordered. Get the bill from the shop and make you pay for that.
The tactic could be relatable. Rental companies likely pull this on a smaller scale. I think there's a video where Rob rented a BMW in Europe and they charged him to replace a rim that he curb checked and was clearly only scratched and could easily be refinished at a fraction of the cost. I can't remember if he got the original rim because it was going to cost a ton to ship.
Carbon fibre can be repaired as long as the damage is just in the clear coat epoxy and it can just be filled in. If the fibre/fabric is damaged then yes it does need to be replaced, damaged carbon fibre is exponentially weaker even with a small chip (assumed the chip damaged the actual carbon fibre not the epoxy coating. But unless the rock was the size of your fist, a pebble won't dig deep enough to harm the fibres.
You should do a video on trust worthy companies to rent cars from in markets you aren't in. I've wanted to rent a car in Vegas, don't know where to rent from if people scam you.
Hey rob where you recording that McLaren clip if that was filmed in Balboa beach today may 30 then I think I saw you because I saw a car exactly like that McLaren and if it was then it’s a cool coincidence that happened
Hi Rob, like I told you on the last video I work in F1 and contrary to popular belief we don't have an unlimited budget. We try to reuse bodywork as much as we can and we repair it when possible. If that's good enough for a championship winning team, surely it's good enough for a rental car company. If they still go ahead with their fraudulent claim that the wear and tear damage is unrepairable, you can send me pictures or tell me what it is they said so I can try to assist you and give you a professional opinion.
Oh baby I want to see the complete video from your mate who rented the car, & wasn't the renting company idiots for telling you the body shop phone number, talking about you to another customer, can't wait to see where this goes, Rj in Oz
I am in bodyshop business and we do fix exotic car takes us about a week to write an estimate sometimes on these cars lol. And months and months to get parts. Andddd you don’t throw away McLaren parts lol. Especially with some stone chips parts:)). Do you think this guy let body shop throw away perfectly good parts😂. Also bodyshop should have pictures of the repairs and all the invoices:). Plus dealership keeps records of all the parts bought for that car. If i were you I wouldn’t pay them a penny at this point, burden is on them to prove, let them try:)).
Rob, unrelated to the video question. I just moved to "the south" (Alabama) and everyone here is way more in to distilleries than breweries like where I came from (Colorado). I've been trying different places to humor my coworkers who are all in to whiskey. Is caramel, like a chewing caramel, a positive flavor in whiskey? A distillery here makes the only liquor I've found to be truly drinkable and it smells and tastes like chewing caramels (aside from the alcohol burn). Are there any big name whiskeys you'd recommend that have a similar profile?
Carbon fiber is not that easy to fix, especially if it is bare/overcoated only. But in other parts really agreeing here: give the parts, that were replaced, if those were replaced. Otherwise the bill has to be tuned down significantly.
@@mikapeltokorpi7671 ...replaced whatever...plumber swaps put your sink for a new one he owns the old one...contractor tears down a shed he gets the lumber...auto shop replaces your bumper they get to keep the old one...
There is a video of an employee dropping the car off in a place call Elite Audio Customs and Collision, and the same employee shows the damage, the youtube channel is call Rafa Leon
You are entitled to be compensated for the repairs, if you have to negotiate and ask for more money that makes no difference. Once both parties agree you’re good. Insurance pays you for a bumper and you fix it, no problem. A good body shop doesn’t have a contact with the insurance company, only with the car owner.

I am confused and late I‘m sure. 😆. But why would there not be PPF on all super cars to protect from rock chips??
Let em have it!!! We'll wait for a part 2......See how the company works...sucks man..u sound like your gonna come out on top 👍🏽👍🏽
Why wasn't the car PPF seems logical or at least it reduces the damage ?
I can't believe we're all following a $100k paint chip problem like we can relate. LoL
Hey rob where you recording that McLaren clip if that was filmed in Balboa beach today may 30 then I think I saw you because I saw a car exactly like that McLaren and if it was then it’s a cool coincidence that happened
this is pretty crazy. hope to see some follow up videos on this, id like to see where this ends up
Was there ever a final outcome to this?
Hi Rob, like I told you on the last video I work in F1 and contrary to popular belief we don't have an unlimited budget. We try to reuse bodywork as much as we can and we repair it when possible. If that's good enough for a championship winning team, surely it's good enough for a rental car company. If they still go ahead with their fraudulent claim that the wear and tear damage is unrepairable, you can send me pictures or tell me what it is they said so I can try to assist you and give you a professional opinion.
Good luck my dude! This is very entertaining
In this episode we see nice guy rob still has his meatballs and is prepared to open another can of sauce
Oh baby I want to see the complete video from your mate who rented the car, & wasn't the renting company idiots for telling you the body shop phone number, talking about you to another customer, can't wait to see where this goes, Rj in Oz
i think Diplomat Exotic Rental out of Nevada would appreciate several "reviews" came from us on their page..
All the paid good ones they have its going to need more then 7 one* reviews
Let get more likes on this comment and make the same amount of one star reviews towards that rental company
Also, that dude doesn't appear to have any video of him renting that car, not sure if he took it down, or what, but I sure can't seem to find it.
So why wasn’t the car PPF wrapped?
Dude the lights can be sanded and buffed the fiber can be repaired as long as it not ripped and the bumper can be repaired and re-sprayed.
I do like your view of if I pay for it I want the old one, it saved me on "buying" a car rental a new rim.
No way he got parts that quickly. I waited 3 weeks alone just for a one plastic/rubber interior trim piece for my 600LT.
Why didnt they PFS (protective film solution) their expensive car?
you know, the clear film that completely protects the car?
Protective film solutions is a company that installs protective film...
800K strong! Almost 2 months now! No back to 799K for a 5th time!!
I think they deserve a shout out.
Carbon fiber is not that easy to fix, especially if it is bare/overcoated only. But in other parts really agreeing here: give the parts, that were replaced, if those were replaced. Otherwise the bill has to be tuned down significantly.
...that's not how it works in most contracting...demolished materials belong to the contractor...
@@dericanslum1696 "demolished"
@@mikapeltokorpi7671 ...replaced whatever...plumber swaps put your sink for a new one he owns the old one...contractor tears down a shed he gets the lumber...auto shop replaces your bumper they get to keep the old one...
Carbon is very easy to patch and repair
There is a video of an employee dropping the car off in a place call Elite Audio Customs and Collision, and the same employee shows the damage, the youtube channel is call Rafa Leon
You can repair carbon fiber I do it all the time on aircraft let me know if you need some help rob !
Shouldn't rock chips be normal wear and tear?
Lucky lopez time for 1 star reviews.
Why don’t you guys put expel on all your rental cars ?
You are entitled to be compensated for the repairs, if you have to negotiate and ask for more money that makes no difference. Once both parties agree you’re good. Insurance pays you for a bumper and you fix it, no problem. A good body shop doesn’t have a contact with the insurance company, only with the car owner.
Robs in the right
Congrats on 800k too
I really would have like to see a comparison between what it looked like before and after
