First tip was a great way to introduce a positive change to a consistent issue in gaming

I want to take a few minutes to sincerely and honestly, from my heart, thank you! There are great videos about Grim Dawn and arpgs, but THIS exact video here is THE one that gave me the motivation and the mindset to actually finish an arpg for the first time. I was always creating alternative characters in arpgs without investing in a single one or in the game itself. The tip that got me going, for me, was to "associate" or "relate" to my character. To have a character that fits the lore and that would be fun to play as if I was the main character of a movie. So Ive had this idea of having this kind of demonslayer like Keanu Reeves in Constantine or even Blade, but with a crossbow. And I never thought I would play the Occultist, but I did. As soon as I got the Raven and the Hound, I knew I was going for a very fun ride. Im actually starting Elite difficulty now and I would never have thought so. Ive bought Grim Dawn many years ago. Ive always loved arpgs especially since 4 or 5 years now, as before that, I was addicted to LOL for ten years. Grim Dawn is the game that I keep coming back to but Ive never been able to finish, actually Ive never finished any arpgs before finishing Grim Dawn. Now I have finished a few, and now I feel like I want to deelply invest myself in GrimDawn for a longtime, and who knows, maybe even modding. So thanks again, sincerely, your video was deeply helpful! Now Im more invested and in love with Grim Dawn than ever!

@TheEmpryon That's absolutely excellent! This is one of the best games around to engage that creative drive while still letting you breathe and have fun. The newest expansion is coming next year and they're still updating the game to keep it fun and interesting beyond all the awesome stuff they put in. It's a really great place to put your effort. :)

@@WinbackRpgRad Yeah I was watching a few videos today about the new animations for the spears and all the AMAZING updates, mechanics, items, etc that they will be implementing. So hyped for this! :) I know theres a mod for 4k textures but Im also thinking about if upgrading the 3d models with ai would be possible in a few years!

Hey man, great video! I have been playing a ton of GD lately, (have almost 700 hours into it) and have been looking for more content for it.
Great tips too, all very helpful for progression. I don't know if you mentioned it and I just missed it, but one HUGE thing that needs to be said: Resistances!
Before going into Elite and Ultimate, your resistances need to be close to or maxed, it will make life a lot easier, with less deaths. But also, you need to be able to reduce enemy resistances too or else they just wont die. Either through devotions, class skills or passives. (Good example is Archon (Oathkeeper + Shaman) they have Wind Devil and Celestial Presence). I am playing a ranged Vindicator at the moment (Shaman + Inquisitor) and he is absolutely crushing Elite and about to hit ultimate. Great video man. Cheers

So far my favorite play-style is ping-ponging between mobs as a Nightblade with 2 dashes and the new dodge-roll mechanic.

One of my first builds in this game was wrecking everything in epic (and i suck at arpgs) thought i was kicking ass, jumped to ultimate and quickly realized my build was shit.

haha, same here. My first char was an apostate pet/caster hybrid build, looked good on paper, but in reality it wasnt great in ultimate level.

You haven't mentioned a thing about components they play a huge role in Grim Dawn. Like augments they can help your character with extra stats, add skills or just add raw damage to your character. Plus a tool that can help you plan out your build easier is Grim Tools build calculator.
I have a Dual Wield Cold Cadence Blademaster that I planned out using that build calculator. I started leveling using Cadence (single target) and Forcewave (AoE) putting only 9 points into Forcewave and pumping the rest that was needed into Cadence. Until I choose Nightblade to get the early skills in nightblade to make the build dual wiled. Then I dropped Forcewave to get blade burst from the nightblade along with turning Cadence into a bit of an AoE as well as single target. I can hit up to three enemies with one swing of cadence. Then since Cadence is can be used to replace the default attack. Then all things that can trigger off of the default attack that is both dual wield and either from the soldier will be useful to me. The cold comes from the nightblade and coldstone in the weapons. Then later on I will get gear that will back up that damage type.

The point where you say „enjoy what you play” is by far the most important - bottom line. Personal enjoyment is crucial to enjoy any game.
I’ve never understood why so many people call Shaman their fav class, he’s not all that great to me, but hey, everyone has a different opinion and it’s fine against what modern society says 😂
As an additional tip for theorycrafting your own build I’d say watch the videos and look for an inspiration. For example I myself play as a cold caster Spellbreaker which is my personal starter build and the inspiration from this build comes from Malagant’s series in which he reseted his account and went from Rags to Riches with that exact build. I’m just tweaking it to my personal liking but I do not hide that my build is heavily Malagant inspired. So do yourselves a favor and look for an inspiration. Arcadelife has a ton of Fresh start series’ as well. Don’t limit yourself to only one content creator
Great vid btw, I love the points that you make there. Great work!

It's funny you'd mention arcanist as your least favorite. I love that class for the support skills it can add to other classes, like the barrier, , dispell, and freeze cc, as well as the crit and energy passives.
Most of them only need 1 point to work too

Thanks for making this vdo. I am a fan of Shaman too. I am really support your idea of having fun while playing any games not to show how good you are.

I agree with what you said, just have fun. There are specific Amor pieces that I am looking for, for a build to try out. Maybe create a build using the Vilescorn Armor pieces, but I don't know how many pieces there are. Plus, not sure if all the Vilescorn pieces work for the same dual-class builds. I don't want to focus on Vilescorn and all the pieces are for 3 or more different classes.

Is this a joke or are you confusing leveling with playing a fleshed out build?

    1. it is a stupid first tip because I have no idea what to enjoy. 2. wasting time at 2:13 3. stopped watching at 4:22 learned nothing

Start by playing that you would enjoy thematically, level up and test out the skills, choose a skill you like, then go and look through secondary classes that have synergy.
For example, you want to play a summoner necromancer? You play that with skeletons and bile zombie and you can get pretty far just doing that.
When you decide to invest in another class, you can choose Occultist or Shaman for more minions support.
You want to play a dual weilding gunner? Pick Inquisitor and level with you guns, then when you are ready, you can pick up a class like Demolitionist for big shoots damage, Aracanist for more hybrid with spellcasring, or Soldier for more tank.

If you want an easy build that dishes out tons of damage, I recommend Aether Ray Arcanist/Necromancer.
