Just a quick and dirty video of me playing some of my sounds on the Korg KROSS 2. I got it for a month now and didn't use it every day. But at least I wanted to give a sign of life. New music is in progress. Just stay patient.

This is the kind of demo Korg should have been doing at NAMM 2019 when trying to appeal to the electronic music producers. I'm all for knob per function synthesis but I've always loved romplers. This one sounds so good, well done! EDIT: subbed!

I own a Yamaha MOXF, very good sounds, but a terrible workflow for sequencing or simply to play as an arranger (with accompaniment or arpeggiator). I think Korg with this Kross 2 has just nailed it. What helps at creating tracks and music is the WORKFLOW.

It sounds very good, but some people say that the Kross sounds bad. What is your experience after 2 years ?
Well, I have mixed feelings. It can sound very plastic-like and cheap but also warm and powerful. I wouldn't use it for dominant leads but everything else it doesn't fairly well. Especially electronic drums are great on this machine. And sidechaining is a neat feature when doing complete mixdowns.
Wow, these sound amazing. Just bought a Kross2 a few days ago. Any chance you'll be making a video on how to upload these tracks any time soon. Also cant seem to be able to utilize Kross2 sounds in Logic. Can use it as a midi keyboard controller but can't access the Kross sounds inside the DAW. Thanks so much.
Hi JayB, amazing work! Unfortunately I am a bit stupid and without reading the instructions well, I deleted all my combis and favorites when loading the sound bank ... do you know if it is possible to recover them? I imagine not, maybe you can you help me. If it is not possible I will have to work a lot, but at least I have your sound bank that will be of great help. Thank you!

The inevitable question. Will these patches be available for download and do you think they will be compatible with the Korg TRITON LE, as I think the KROSS 1/2 and the LE are the same synth engine?

It's mainly a matter of EQing and some filter and amp envelope tweaks. The samples are still the same.

Awesome sound sample vid Jay, thanks for posting this. Impressed with what I hear. Seriously considering getting one of these, but I really want something that can pretty closely replicate orchestral instruments like violin, cello, etc. and brass/woodwinds. How are those sounds on here, if they’re featured at all? So far I’m hearing a lot of modern sounds, which is awesome, but I’d also like the versatility of those other sounds as well. Thanks in advance!

@Dave Rucci: Did some comparison (hours) on the Kross 2 , FA-07 and MODX and couldn't make my mind up just yet!
Pianos and most sounds on the Kross are usable and very good. On the FA and MODX they are just a little deeper and sound more professional. When playing the Kross 2 on its own or it a band you'll sound great. Just when comparing it side by side with the FA and MODX the Kross 2 will sound a little cheaper, which it actually is. And price does matter to me and does keep the Kross 2 in the race.
All in all: FA-07 sounds more natural in individual acoustic instrument sounds (guitar, strings, flute) and of course in the synthi sounds. MODX sounds fantastic but especially in the pianos, and the orchestral acoustic ensemble sounds. MODX absolutely excels in dynamics and adds the FM engine.
But, the Kross-2 has this audio recording and overdub, which really appeals to me. The FA has the looping sequencer and pad recording which is also usable. These features are not available on the MODX.
What I learned from this video is that you can't combine effects on the Kross 2, which is really a drawback for me: The FA and MODX provide individual multi FX on each audio track. Usually I don't care about that, but when you have a multi track sequence going with organ and leslie, guitar with delay, reverb, distortion where the FX are an essential part of the sound, it is important.
Bless these days, when there is so much awesomeness in all price ranges to choose from!

That was really excellent thanks, before this didn’t know much about these synths but you certainly made this Korg seem pretty awesome for live performance. Really great job on the track at the end to ! ( although I guess you’re at a level you can make any equipment seem pretty amazing) enjoyed watching your technique as well:)

You can have up to five inserted FX on each sound. Pretty sure you can combine delay as an insert with reverb as a master effect.
Unfortunately you can't... There is no delay for an insert effect. The sound engine has so much potential but they really messed up the FX section. Actually I'm sure some things can be fixed with a OS update.
As far my knowledge goes, it´s a limitation by Korg, because the processor is not as powerful as the one of Krome, which can use the master effects as insert effects, too. Did you use an external reverb, Jay?
@@JayBmusic And it only gets worse with Kross2 versus the Kross1, I'm now finding out, probably compromises that had to be made to add USB audio and the sampler.
Oh yeah, I see, but if you have a look at S69 in Master MFX 1 it is a chorus/multi-tap delay it may not be a Pre FX insert but it can be chained to MFX 2 Reverb @@JayBmusic

I think, You can add reverb and delay at the same time. You must use master efect and internal efect. I have Korg TR and do this. Please try and answer.
Except there's no delay or reverb in the insert effects section. Or at least no real delay.

Hey Jay, i just found your video here and wanted to know if all of those sounds are right out of the box? I noticed you said you were using a yamaha reverb because there is no reverb on here? : / I also enjoyed your sound samples and musicality, and wanted to know if you would like to talk more about possibly playing synth on 3 full albums of 80s freestyle music that i am remaking and bringing my own sound to... Hi! These sounds aren't there from factory but selfprogrammed. You can download them and transfer them to your Kross 2 without needing any modifications. The Kross does have Reverb, but you cannot use it at the same time with the delay. And delay for me is more important with some sounds.
I'm from Germany so I guess the whole "playing together" thing won't work after all.

@@JayBmusic Im an all around musician, multi instrumentalist, singer, writer, producer. Im remaking some 80s synth music but bringing more ROCK sounds to it.

Marble Red is an official color version of the Kross. You can't officially change the color afterwards.

It's mainly tweaking filter and amplifier envelopes and some EQing. I took my Yamaha S90ES Grand Piano as reference.
Nice demo Jay, wonder if its worth dumping the Kross 1 for this new version ?
Good overview of, some of, the sounds. What really struck me is that apparently the Kross-2 does not provide multi FX on a single sound, let alone on a multi track performance. What annoyed me is that you used another device (a yamaha keyboard apparently?) to add the reverb. I would have preferred to hear the Kross 2 by itself, and have heard some other videos where it really shines without add-ons.
Also missing an, at least overview, of some of the workstation capabilities like the audio recording. I do realize it is impossible to cramp that up in 10 minutes and, when I understand you correctly, there'll be more videos to follow. Looking out for those!
It was not my point to make a general video about the Kross. It's rather a teaser for my soundset I'm working on. If you're looking for pure Kross demonstrations look elsewhere.

I'm afraid it doesn't. You might be able to reprogram the patches 1 by 1 if you can open them with an editor.

No, and in fact I really like the drum samples in the Kross. However, it's really easy to import your own ones and use them in a drum kit. Just lay them onto the sample pads and convert the sample pads into a program using the function menu. This way you can select these samples in the drum kit area inside the Global menu.

Can u say - is it possible to do hear a own sound from init, or it's going from recorded .wav sample? i mean - like INIT saw(in Serum, Sylenth1, Minilogue and etc)
All my sounds are based on an INIT sound (in fact the whole user bank is full of INIT sounds). However, it's not a saw but a piano since this is the first of the multisamples.

Could still be from some previous editing. When you load a new patch those knobs are ignored until you twist them.

btw the engine of this synth sounding remind me Yamaha An1x or Roland V-synth..so clear, if you can compare it - do you hear a difference between this synths, what you choose for now?
Igor Leus That's like comparing apples to pears. V-Synth and AN1x have virtual analog engines. The main differences between Roland and Yamaha is that Roland uses linear envelope curves while Yamaha uses exponential ones. The Kross is based on multisamples and lets you pick out of 10 curve shapes steps from linear to exponential. So in theory you can indeed emulate both the AN1x and the V-Synth. And yet you can do so much more while being limited at the same time.
yeah, of course comparing a different synth sound-engine is maybe not right, i meant just about the final HQ sound result. Coz i hear here a very clean sound, that just reminded me thos two old guyses)

Hi JayB, first of all, awesome performance and awesome video.
I wanted to ask you for help. I seem to have bricked my Korg Kross 2 trying to update it, and I can't seem to unbrick it. I discovered that if you hold FUNCTION and GLOBAL/MEDIA while the keyboard is plugged by usb to a pc, it triggers USB Storage mode, and you can see and copy the files from the synth. I'd like you to try this with your Kross 2 and send me the files if possible, so I can copy them and try if this unbricks my synth... The most important file seems to be KROSAPP.BIN, i tried to search for it but I don't find anyware... so my only hope is that some one with this synth can do me the favor to send me those files....

Only if you have an external reverb unit. The Kross's reverb sucks and can't be used together with delay.

this one, MX can't do deep editing on board has to go through a software editor to take a deep dive
MX doesn't compete, unless you prioritize acoustic sounds and Cubase AI integration.

Apparently a limitation of the processor. I rather think it's bad programming. The reverb doesn't even sound good.
JayB Well korg as usual .... i used Korg arrangers for the past 20 year's .... they keep repeating the same issues every time ... Nothing like Roland ...
