  • Celtic Folklore doesn't just include magical creatures and various legends, but also tales about elements of the everyday life of the Celts like animals. One of the animals, that found it's way into Celtic Folklore, is the fox. 🦊
And maybe the irish foxes are even responsible for the creation of the word "Shenanigans".

So so wonderful. A sick fox showed up in my yard a few months ago. I was able to save him with medicine. Recently he brought his family to our house who were also sick and I am helping them now too. I feel a deep connection to foxes after this special experience. It has taught me that even though the world can feel overwhelming around us, choosing kindness and good can change the life of others. They symbolize hope and resilience to me.

We have Grey Foxes here in No. California redwood forest. The breeding couple brought their pup to my deck for peanuts from the birdfeeder. Read about Kitsuni.
Looked to Irish myths. Surprised at common elements. The Japanese Fox goddess is depicted w 9 tails. I love the tale of St Brigid. The foxes climb trees. Remarkable little beings. My favorite animal. Along w the Raven. Love myths, too! Thank you!

"Welcome back to my channel." This is the first time I've been here.
That aside, that "shenanigans" fact is quite cool if true, or quite the funny coincidence if not.

Hello my friend, the animal that I personally like is the white wolf. The attributes of the fox are that of cunning in my area of the world too. Loving your channel and I am glad that I was given the link.

      Thank you very much 😊
Wolves are also beautiful creatures with a lot of fascinating legends all over the world. I hope they'll be reintroduced in some areas of Europe in the future.

Nice tale and video, did you ever explain the other two aspects from your channel picture? The base looks like a chess piece to me, and the tail perhaps a tad feather like?🦊 Very hard for me to choose a favourite wonderful non human animal, I'd imagine a Wolf/Madra firstly but was always fond of Hamsters and Stags as well.☘

I didn't explain it, but you are quite right, it's a chess piece and a feather, for I studied game Design and I love to write stories😊
So I basically combined my live for games, stories and mythology in my logo😊
Isn't madra dog though? I know madra rua is Red dog/ fox and i only know Mac tír for Wolf (son of the land). But I only recently started to learn irish😅
A beautiful language and I hope i'll be able to speak it one day😊

I'm wondering if there are resources out there on the Celtic fox. I've only been able to find articles and UA-cam videos on it, and the occasional UA-cam comment on it being a part of Irish/Celtic mythology. It seems pretty obscure, but from what I've seen it has a few similarities to the Japanese Bake Gitsune aside from the shapeshifting. For instance its supposed to have a pearl that if found, grants the finder good luck. They're also supposed to be able to see the future, especially in regards to the weather. It's quite fascinating. Shapeshifting foxes seem to be common in global folklore.

I'm not sure. I read a lot about Celtic Folklore and foxes are my favourite animals (apart from a fascination for the japanese Kitsune and the Shinto God/Goddess Inari) so that played all into the making of this video, but I couldn't tell you any specific place to look for. Foxes are more like side notes in folklore. But not just in Celtic but in most european folklore as far as I know. It's a fascinating topic though, since you are right they seem to have similar attributes in many legends.
