That comment about 27 land and sometimes not hitting the third hit real hard. Was playing golgari ramp before we lose citadel and kept getting stuck between 2 and 4. Switched to an aggro deck and as consistently hitting 5 land by turn five.
CGB/Anybody have thoughts on Witching Well vs. Omen of the Sea? Given the slow curve, having a 1 drop has been useful for me, and the card sac+draw on the well (though expensive) is "cheaper" than burning a low X Gadwick, especially if you were screwed out of a Nyx. Also, adding a couple "unnecessary" scry lands was helpful and fabled passages (to shuffle after the owls/Oracles shunt things to the bottom) Other thoughts?
This is going to be my second rotation since first playing standard. I always liked the narrower standard the best. So I jump on rotation proofing as soon as possible.
No reason? I mean idk about you but having 5 lands and 2-3 creatures down with no board wipes does not equate to having your nuts speed bagged by a surprise 10+ creatures and like a 50000000000 mana pool lol.
I was playing your Simic Adventures 2021 deck last night and I came up against this Mono-Blue Devotion deck. I knew enough to bounce the Lotus the first time I saw it, but didn't think about it too much. On turn 5 they went off and won the game. I immediately came searching for this video (I had skipped it the first time around) because I figured I would want to try this deck for myself. Gonna be fun!
I swear I haven't watched hour long videos unless they were from an all time favorite Creator.. but I have watched CGB for about a week now? And easily watched 30 or so hour long videos.. love this guy lol
Ever since you first played mono blue devotion, it's been one of my favorite standard decks. Also, I'd definitely enjoy more 2021 standard videos. Keep up the great content!
I love magic it’s an amazing game! And you play in a fun way and it provides fun for us viewers, I’ve only recently found your channel but I love it! Thanks and keep on tapping lmao
Yesterday, I had a match against someone who was trying this deck. A few hours before, i had watched your video, so when I saw my opponent playing the Nyx Lotus I knew what I was going against. I obviously had some previous knowledge on what cards were the engine for the combo so i dedicated myself to deny them and sqeeze some damage whenever I could. I won but it was really fun and challenging to play against it and in my opinion it's a pretty good deck for standard 2021. ✌🏼
The mono black 2020 standard deck you posted a year ago is a list I slightly modified and still has success with to this day. Especially now when Teferi 3 is out of the picture. Thank you CGB :)
I definitely enjoy the idea of the 2021 standard, to get away from the...general drabble we've all dealt with for two years basically. Lol. Ultimately, metrics aside, you're the vector I come back to watch every day.
CGB, I just want to thank you for all the valuable content you've made. Watching your videos taught me a lot and helped me reach my goal of achieving mythic rank for the very first time... with mono-red. :)
I only started getting really into MTGA this spring. Kinda sucks because I missed out on all those amazing GRN block cards. I'm just happy you're finally showing off a deck I can actually make myself in its entirety!
Just want to say I love the idea of making decks for the standard 2021 queue leading up to rotation, althoughI think it would be best to do a mix of both standard 2021 and normal standard videos so you can appease the people who want to see normal standard decks. I know I would be fine with just a few standard 2021 videos. Anyways, I love the idea and think it will be really helpful to help me and others with getting ready for rotation. Keep up the awesome content!
I remember a very fun deck almost exactly like this back during the streamer event I was in for Beyond death. Seems like this deck finally has a format it can do well it. Its a amazingly fast deck with the right draw
I was hoping you would have shown our match! Mainly to hear your commentary against me when you played Azorius Yorion :P must have been the livestream vs recorded play
Hey man, you looked kinda burned in the video. Personally, i love your content, and it would still be ok if you took a break every now and then, i would keep on clicking whenever you came back. Maybe misread totally, but take care :)
I’m gonna splash Uro if I play more then 25 lands. I like the deck but flooding makes me tilt. I will swap a single island for an Omen. If I flop I will come back and admit it. One question though, does Wishing Well seem good as an additional target for the owl? Or maybe some Folio of Fancies?
I think gemrazer is the best card in the 2021 standard right now. It is at least a 4/4 body with reach and trample, but it destroy lucky clovers, yorion decks, anax, embercleave, Lotus, stonecoil serpents, auras... And it cost 3 mana but it's converted mana cost is 4, wich is a big deal in the current standard.
CGB, on the only match that you've lost, against the mutate deck, you were afraid that the opponent could use Mystical Dispute, but you forgot that he runned Umori, so he could only play creatures.
I love S21! I'm experimenting with a crazy monowhite go wide deck, using heraldic banners to help ramp into the dude that spawns humans for devotion white, and the archon that makes dudes and also all non archons into 3/3's. Depending on how you build the board before that you can make some pretty massive swings. Also, blinking them is something I want to try but I also want to survive and haven't found the space for that yet. So far it smashes.
I love blue devotion with gadwick. The m21 ageless insight works great by doubling gadwick's draw, making it easier for the oracle to win the game for us as well.
This deck looks so much fun!!! I think you should do both regular standard and M21 standard videos, maybe do one one day and another format the other day, that would be great!
Just want to indicate that the new leaked land card from zendikar, seems like it would go very nicely in this deck. As you have alot of mana, you could pumpup the land and go for a killing blow quite effectively. That would serve as a mana dump (what this deck is sometimes missing) and an alt win con.
Love this deck. Thoughts on throwing in a shark typhoon. Its more of a gimmick really but I think it might be pretty decent the cycle draw plus the thought of like a 20/20 flying shark. Def playing this deck post rotation thank you.
Question for those who are good at mana base math: why would we have 25:2 Island:Vantress and not 23:4 or 24:3? Is there that much risk of getting an opening hand with only Vantresses and not being able to make a play on turn 2? (We have no 1-drops....)
I lost to a version of this deck that ran Sea Gate Restoration, Witching Well, Emry, and the new Jace from Zendikar in place of Brazen Borrower and Thassa.
I prefer wishing well to the omen. The well is a one drop which might help on a nut draw and otherwise it add has much devotion than the omen and if the combo doesn't work it's an emergency draw 2. For the same price (5 mana) you get scry 2 draw 2 vs scry 2 draw 1 scry 2
I basicly play this deck since Nyx Lotus was released. It is basicly the same list, but I play less lands and Brazen Borrower and add 4* WITCHING WELL. Adds to devotion, lets you find lands in early game and draws you cards in your combo turn. Trust me, it makes the deck much more solid and run much more smoothly.
CGB, I'm not exactly sure how you got this deck to work, but I just lost a WEEK'S worth of progress in mythic (96 - 86%) trying to squeeze ONE frikkin win out of this. Using this engine I made a pretty awesome kraken deck with a secondary mill win condition. It’s still got room for improvement I’m sure but I’ve only lost with it once so far. So thank you.
CovertGoBlue Thank you! I’ve already changed it slightly, I realized it was easier to draw my entire deck than it was to mill theirs. So new win cons are swarming unblockable krakens, or drawing my entire deck for the win in mid game. I’m only in gold 1 now so I’m not too sure how it would hold up at higher levels but it’s been one of the most entertaining decks I’ve ever played.
I've been playing Temur adventures in the m21 ranked standard at high mythic with an 80% winrate. I am convinced that it will be one of the top tier decks next meta.
I just tried it (replacing a few copies of cards I was missing with some Teferis and his tutelages) against an Azorius constellation / all that glitters deck. I had a blast
If you like Standard 21, try playing Simic Adventures and cram 4 Stormwing entity in there. It's still super grindy and can play the long game, but has better options early and can win a couple of turns earlier
Honestly eldraine is worse than war of the spark. So many powerful block decks there. Temur and Golgari Adventures, Jund sacrifice, various knight decks, particularly with embercleave, and of course, Oko and the colour green. How did they not realize this?
One actually fun blue deck, incredible I remember one old version of this deck you play before?!,it is just me or it is true? I remember one old video with some version of this deck, maybe immediatly after the new Theros came out Anyway awesome deck really
Love the 2021 rotation proof decks. Been working on a few myself. My favorite is Izzet Terror of the Peaks + Experimental Overload. Dump deck full of instants and sorceries into graveyard, get Terror on field and punch face with Overload for 20 in one blow.

Hey CGB, I've been top 500 mythic for a while now but I'm not seeing my name anywhere on the MTG Assistant app, am I missing something I have to do?

Hi CGB, what local time are you on Twitch, as in NZ so just trying to line up the World Clock.

Don't worrry, there's going to be more nissa in Zendikar Rising.
KKKKKKKKK só os brazuca
I cant stand playing nissa
You are worried about Nissa when cgb is showing you nearly infinite Mana combos lmfao
I /was/ enjoying it . . . Now everyone is gonna be playing a version of my fave deck 🙁
I love Standard 21, especially since I’m new to the game. Less cards to worry about and collect. Still plenty of great decks to play.
Welcome to the game! I also welcome the rotation, as I didn't want to invest in the older sets

Meanwhile I'm drafting Amonkitties like crazy to add to my historic collection. That's what makes this game great! Welcome!
Yeah it's pretty much perfect for me, too. Haven't played a single Standard match in a week.
This decks main wincon is making the opponent concede for no reason.
Also known as winning!
i know, right
No reason? I mean idk about you but having 5 lands and 2-3 creatures down with no board wipes does not equate to having your nuts speed bagged by a surprise 10+ creatures and like a 50000000000 mana pool lol.
2021 standard or as I call it Constructed limited is by far my favorite content and format right now.
I was playing your Simic Adventures 2021 deck last night and I came up against this Mono-Blue Devotion deck. One more thing I love about playing CGB decks: 27 lands means I don't need to spend as many wildcards
This is some real combo, involving calculations and fancy tapping and untapping, and I love it!
