I was able to obtain a carton! Unfortunately, my local store sells based on market value, so I def overpaid. I'm coping by telling myself I saved on shipping and got it sooner :( Going to try harder next time not to get suckered, sigh

Sadly i gave in. My daughter and i really wanted the carton and i ended up buying 4, one for her, one for me and 2 to keep sealed for the future. My reasoning was its now never because its marnie and the price is just gonna go up. LGS sells everything at scalper prices so i cant count on them. Idk if i made the right call on it but im happy i have my darn cards lol.

Couldn't have agreed more with this video. Many of us are here to actually enjoy the hobby, not see others hype things up from a purely monetary standpoint and not be able to get product lol (or just waste an exorbitant amount of moolah). Thanks for your thoughts JLuv, this is the kind of content many of us need right now when Pokemon products are difficult to obtain globally.

Edit: Not telling people to buy from overpriced resellers. Go buy from stores that sell it at SRP so we all win, especially the kids that should be able to afford Pokemon TCG!
I agree with every single word you said i legit saw a couple youtubers saying we should buy the marnie box at 2 to 3 times the price stating "yeah it sucks that it's more expensive but you still should buy it now while you can because the value is definitely worth it, remember this promo will never be re-released it's now or never." It amazes me how good they are at turning something that should be fun and exciting, to something so toxic in so little time. I like Marnie and I love that promo card but I was so turned off from buying the box a mere 2 days after its release.
Glad to hear you feel the same way ness. It just makes things harder for collectors all around, the best thing you can do is arm yourself with knowledge so you’re more aware of what’s going on. Stay positive!!

We finna start calling out individuals eventually if they step way outta line to hurt the hobby but I guess now is not the time... nice assessment of the situation as always man, nice to see someone like-minded in the hobby using their position online for good!
Someone ultimately has to address this. Turning a hobby into an actual commodity is extremely heartbreaking for the ones who genuinely love the hobby. I witnessed the rampage for the marnie tournament collection box and immediately walked away from the store without wanting to partake in any of these. Hopefully, as per all inflated markets, this corrects itself and weed out all the disgusting flippers.
Collectively if people call out the bad practices and refuse to support them, things will slowly change - it'll just take time.

Probably the reason everyone is hyping and buying out Japanese cards now is because they are, well were, cheaper than the english ones. Also, I have seen so many out of stock listings on every site, I'm convinced they aren't making Pokemon cards AT ALL!!
Yeah my local game shop is selling the marnie milk carton for $79.99 so if I want it I have to pay double the retail price and I'm an adult with a job I cant imagine how this is effecting kids who the product is intended for!! As adults we completely priced out kids from their product!!
Hey JLUV, I thought this was a really interesting video but I still feel as though you lack insight of what people are truly gaining from these types of videos, which is Marnie card go brrrrr.

hey man, i just recently found you on youtube. I have been having a problem with one of the "poketubers" you hint at in this video. I was finding it harder and harder to watch with the way he was fluffing up the market. Magically turning full art trainers into a high commodity over night, among other things. I think a lot of people lack the critical thinking required to see what is happening. I just want to say thank you for this video. You are doing an amazing job, keep it up!

Totally agreed on this! Same thing that rubbed me the wrong way with the crypto markets: if everyone is shilling their "top tier investment plan" that actually worked, they'd be rich and not shilling an investment plan on UA-cam lol. No one is going to give out their secret sauce.

I generally avoid products that's over hyped. Unless I really like that specific card or product... If that's the case I would wait for the hype and the price to calm down and that happens most of the time.
Solid and reasonable approach - there's always something better to buy while majority are fixed on an overhyped, single item.
I decided not to get the box because I’m just not a fan of Marine to be honest XD I kinda started because of the investment aspect but it made me sad collecting because I would feel super paranoid about missing out on something. Now I have found my true collector in me and I only buy things that makes me happy to add to my collection ^^ the stuff where even if tomorrow it’s all worth nothing I would still be happy to own it and see it displayed :D
Sounds like you've found yourself as a collector, and your place in the hobby. Just buy what you like, and you can't go wrong :D

So annoying. I have been a poke collector since 2003; sure it is nice if a card you own goes up in value, but the entire situation currently is just so bad for true collectors. I just want to open packs, but everything is 4-5+ times more expensive than msrp for japanese product. Its annoying. Are they even selling pokemon packs in center stores in japan for retail? Where is left to get packs for retail? Seems only the poke center, then when it sells out youre screwed. I dont live in Japan though so Im not going to be able to buy booster boxes for retail now.

New collector/hobbyist here. Love my Japanese cards and somehow embarrassingly I got arm twisted into being told why American Pokémon cards are so much greater. After spending hundreds on sets I didn’t even care for I’m glad I just discovered your channel. Gonna go back into collecting what I WANT. Thank you for this and for speaking out. Also I don't actually think the Marnie carton is really that much of a "good investment" anyway, the Marnie full art English card being a promo card means it isn't actually that rare in the grand scheme of things but all these pokeinvestors are acting like this card will make you rich.
That's the power of hype isn't it, when there's enough of it, public perception can change massively.

Iam so mad that AUS didn’t get the milk carton we don’t even get the Pokémon online products but neither does Europe but they get product early and exclusive pre order items like posters and pokemon on the ball cards but we get NOTHING 🙃😤
Yeah, I've stepped away from it all. I'm not collecting anymore. All this crap has made me basically not enjoy pokemon in general anymore. Hopefully it all goes back to normal but I doubt it. The internet is just gonna make it worse and keep on going for a long time if not forever. If it does get better, I might come back. Otherwise, I couldn't be bothered to be apart of it lol
It’s chaotic out here at the moment but I do think there’s a lot of fun to be had still. Just need to navigate through the unsavoury elements. The hobby will always be here if you do decide to take a break. When I get frustrated at things I just make sure not to sell anything in the heat of the moment 😅
Yea, many poke youtuber talking about investing that investing this, might be themselves trying to hype for their storage , but still there is bunch of ppl cant switch off "the FEELING" 😢

Is the market actually crashing or not? Cuz some people say prices are low and some say they are still going up. And what exactly does it mean when it "crashes"? Prices up or down? Because it seems like everyone has a different definition with that. Plus, Why are we still hyping Pokemon cards? That was so 2019-2020 ago.

I think the kanazawa pikachu box will be my 1st and last japanese product I'll ever get. atleast for a while with how things are going right now, more than x6 for any of those types of products.

if you guys are just coming into the understanding of "fake hype" with Pokémon.......try to wrap your head around this happening in all other parts of life. cars are hyped, electronics are hyped, laws are hyped...its a lot darker than you think it is.

I managed to get two but I am left conflicted to open as questions like if they are worth saving unopened for years because there is a this overhyped trend with “invest” and “buy this now before price hike” and I honestly hate poketubers who brags about finding 10-50k cards with boxes behind them(no offense to you) just to rub in our face that we are too poor to get that. It’s honestly making it frustrating and not fun to collect cards at this point, let alone it’s so much more difficult to get anything.
No offense taken! I like to display my favourite collections or sets that I've already opened, the box art is too nice haha. If you want one of those Marnie FA in a binder, open 1 and keep the other sealed. I understand why people keep things sealed and there's no issue with it. The lines do get blurred when we're talking about cases of these things though.

Great video, and it really did need to be said. The sooner people realise that investing hype videos don’t benefit them, the sooner they start watching - and then hopefully the sooner the algorithm starts catering to that style of content.
Hopefully then we can return to a more enjoyable hobby - here in the U.K. I managed to find the Marnie box for RRP from a local store, but I know so many people are losing out from the insane hype around it.
Anyway - great video as always! I’ll be sure to share it if I see people buying into the craze.

Got back into Pokemon card collecting with seeing how great the modern sets have been and I am sometimes shocked at how much singles are getting sold at, let alone sealed products. Just wish people would see this hobby for what it is: collecting coloured cardboard. Too many think this is an investment opportunity to buy a house or for their retirement smh

@@okJLUV Yeah, I've limited my purchases from them to the occasional Japanese packs if they have any as they usually under-price them, and for empty ETB's as I use them for storage (which they sell for $2.) Other than that everything is marked up heavily.

I really wanted that Marnie Carton™, I was never truly able to buy the Japanese Marnie and I was watching it climb from $200 to $300 to whatever the hell she's now in now, 70000yen?
I could never buy it so I wanted the English one at least but you'll catch me dead before I pay more than a little over retail for it, I've done it with shining fates when I came back into the hobby and lost around €500, basically all I had at the time because of a store that promised me to deliver it at the release date, gave it to me 2 months late and made the return process so difficult that I just kept them. Why am I just venting now? lmao but right now I have like 5 boxes preordered at around €50 in 5 different sites, if only one of them goes through I'm happy lol
Haha sometimes you just need to get it off your chest, I understand mate. The Japanese Marnie FA is a totally different ball game, it's a tough card to pull from an expensive box that's ultra popular in Japan, so that boat has truly sailed. This product though...there's no reason it won't get reprinted, especially when there is money to be made (for the manufacturer, TPCi) - so don't be surprised if you can find it for retail a few months from now.
@@okJLUV Ah yes, shiny star V... Opened 10 box recentely that I paid around $70 a piece a while ago and got no Marnie and no Charizards, the secret rare was always something worth less than 10 bucks and I got 3 trainers, Rose, Gym trainer and Bird Keeper, not even a Skyla to lessen the pain lmao
I wish I was joking... Oh well, I have to boxes left, I'll keep them sealed for the next 20 years forgetting about them and maybe I can get some money back haha
In the meantime if the Marnie Carton gets indeed reprinted to oblivion then I'll buy 10 copies, at 50 bucks it's a damn good value to me even if the promo is worth 5 dollars :D

In general I wholeheartedly agree, but in the case of this Marnie box I will say that I understand the price increase. There's the valuable content with such a caliber of a full art card on the one hand, and the immense, hungry market on the other.
I guarantee if nobody was hyping this thing up, it would have come and gone. The second word gets out that it's "allocated", things change. It's a solid product and yeah, resell would normally be higher than MSRP. But 2x - 3x is quite absurd IMO.
