KLR650 bro here. I have both taken it on single track and commuted across state lines, all at a cheap price tag. It is by no means the best bike, but boy is it great at being below average at everything.
Hey I’m that ADV commuter. Well kinda. It a Tiger 1200. No side cases. In the winter with the heated seat heated grips tall windscreen it’s like luxury to ride. No way will I be caught dead in a car here in CA when I can lane split pass those fools. Great video though. Made me laugh
You forgot about a Honda NC700/750X guy (me). The most pragmatic bike out there. Economical, reliable, cheap, good quality and not to exiting, actually we wanted an adventure bike but couldn't afford it ;) usually we are over 50 (not me) and very upset if somebody calls it a scooter only because its an automatic haha
love your comment! i have a friend with a 750x (automatic) and i love to call that a scooter. i also love to see his face when i tell him his "so much fun" bike's revlimiter kicks in around the same range where my tdi car. exactly where my inline 4 starts to warm my soul :D ohhh, those "it's an eco friendly perfect beginner bike" guys :D
They don’t sell many NC700x’s in the US. So, they are like Panda’s in the wild, but a lot less cool. I rode a K1200GT for years and dropped down to the DCT 700x because, yes, I am having wrist issues from 36 years of riding and beating off. The Goldwing and Africa twin offer the same DCT transmission as well. So, i guess we’ll call them scooters along with anyone with a rekluse clutch or a quick shifter.
Bro im 15 and i have a 125cc dirt bike and i love it cause you have fun in a good trail ride in rocky steep terrain or muddy track with a good ramp to whip it up specially with friends i have a group of friends (neibors) 3 of us have dirtbikes and 2 of us have 4 tracks

@@terriblefurry Sure and the thing is the 250L is kind of more like a roadbike than a dirtbike. 250R is a proper track dirtbike. There is model called 250x which is a detuned version of the 250r.
So I’ve been watching these lists and have never felt like I’m in any of these groups. . . Until today! I fit In the crapbike category. You can’t tell what my bike is, but I love it and I honestly love all bikes. I legit don’t care what I’m on as long as it runs.
That ok I got. 99 rebel 250 with a dent in the gas can and a spray can paint job layered over the old paint with tears in the leather seat also a few missing screws and bolts but hey still drives somehow now if I could get the oil plug off this thing.
I don't care what you say, I love my 'RE 500. It's more fun to ride than any of the 'modern ' bikes I've owned - every time I ride it it puts a huge smile on my face and no, not because of the vibrations! but because it has no pretension of being anything other than what it is, a great old thumper with a heart of gold and a comfy seat. The only downside is that whenever you pop to the supermarket for a pint of milk, it takes you ages the wrest it away from an admiring crowd of older fellows who want to tell you about the o e they had in the fifties - so it doesn't just make me happy, it makes others happy too. What more could you ask out of a bike?😁
Well Mr. Yammie, thanks to you I am the SV650 starter. First bike and I love it. You are the reason I went after one. Got a blue 2007 and I can’t complain at all

So for the adv commuter... that's what I aspire to be. I'm a "one rifle man." I only want one motorcycle. I'm going to check out the "whatever" bike now since I still can't justify the Beemer.
I'll admit I love the UJMs, original or neo-retro. But, yeah, back in the early 2000's when I owned that '79 Honda that wouldn't start so easily, let's just say I now appreciate ANY bike that starts when you ask it to.

Ran into a true #7 a few years back on a group ride. The historic relic started life as a Goldwing, but was missing more than a few bits from life experience; the "Beverly Hillbillies" of motorcycles. Turns out the guy was poor as a church mouse and this was about as financially reckless he could be for a hobby. The dude was absolutely chill and a far cry from the pretentious Harley snobs that were too good to mix with the mere mortals. I wish I had snapped a pic of that bike, because that man understood the essence of what motorcycles are all about better than nearly anyone I have ever met. And I have to admit I made the list -started riding on a Kawasaki 125 when I was 13.
When I had a V-Strom 650, I rode that to work. When I had a DR-Z400, I rode that to work. Now, I have an Africa Twin. I ride that to work. I don't have another motorcycle. The Africa Twin is what I have, and you ride what you have. I ride almost every day. I have a truck that hasn't moved in four years. I started riding again about 13 years ago. It took about six months of riding to feel that riding a motorcycle was normal. It took about a year to really get comfortable on the bike. It took about two years before I felt I was truly in control. An adventure rider who only rides a couple weeks and a few weekends each year is not getting the experience needed to become truly proficient on the bike. Riding to work provides that experience. Plus, it you really love to ride, you ride what you have.
14 and have a 250, I'm alright I guess. Probably better than most American riders, those motherfuckers are afraid of getting on to dirt with their sports or riding in rain. I saw some dude almost go about a foot into dirt with his sport and say he almost crashed wtf?😂 clowns

Even worse is taking a cherry rolling chassis '71 Suzuki TS100 and doing an engine switch with a TS185.
better you buy a Honda MT 125 and put a CR barrel, piston, carb and expansion chamber on it. You blow off stock 250's no problem. ( spoken from experience. Do it with an MT250 and 400's will fear you.) You'll need new CR inlet and exhaust flanges too. You don't need to change the heads. Modern sport bikes all look the same to me, and I couldn't care less, but a nice cafe racer makes my heart flutter.
And I don't want most modern tech, with the exception of ABS. I don't even care if it's fuel injected, I just want a simple, unrefined machine that feels like it has some personality.
True, you don't need an ADV to commute, but what if you already own one for it's intended purpose? I'm sure as hell not buying a second bike just to get to work. Plus, when you ride every day (especially on 20 degree days), all the same comfort and amenities that make long rides enjoyable, make commuting a breeze. Whatever, enjoy your Datsun cager. 👍
It’s really just the GS and Multistrada guys who are weenies. The rest of 5he ADV crowd is actually pretty cool.
JA - when you roll up to the office on Monday and your bike is covered in dust or mud from you weekends adventure rides, you are bonafide ADV rider. But, under no circumstances can you roll up to a Starbucks on your bike. Even if your dying of thirst and starvation. You MUST roll on to the next gas station for some shitty coffee and a package of donuts.

Low key I'm the Neo Retro Dude for sure (minus the oppressive critique of contemporary music) and my dad is well on his way to being an ADV Commuter. He just hasn't bought a BMW yet! He's got that sentimental soul though.

Maybe get him one for Christmas xD
Retro bikes are hecka cheap. I'd love a 2019 motorcycle, but that's not happening
wait a minute.. im that ninja 400 guy
So am I! How are you enjoying your premium mediocre bike?
Lol what?! Me too mate😂
I was pretty 50/50 on either the 400 or a rc 390. Ended up with the KTM solely because of rebates and looks
I'll be getting a 400 as well. I like the look of it and the price is decent for my budget.
I just bought my 400 on Saturday as my very first motorcycle. I'm happy with it.

I started on a Honda CX500, but my "returning bike" after a 10 year break is a Versys 650, so almost the same thing

KLR650 bro here. I have both taken it on single track and commuted across state lines, all at a cheap price tag. It is by no means the best bike, but boy is it great at being below average at everything.
Half-ass SKWAD
Currently a crap bike guy, hawk 250 good, reliable, very cheap and fun on or off road!
Great thing is when you drop it you think 'hey i can fix it with parts from the local scrapyard' lol.
I have seen a lot more of those riding here in California lately. They look nice, but am not a big fan of the cargo boxes and the height of the bike.
Yea I agree with you on the cargo boxes. I just use a textile tail bag. As far as the height. I’m tall so it’s perfect
Hey adv actually makes sense, comfort, traveling , adventure and amenities.
My father has a KLR250
Perfect for offroad, not too heavy, enough power, not too high,....
I love it

You forgot about a Honda NC700/750X guy (me). The most pragmatic bike out there. Economical, reliable, cheap, good quality and not to exiting, actually we wanted an adventure bike but couldn't afford it ;) usually we are over 50 (not me) and very upset if somebody calls it a scooter only because its an automatic haha
Is there a manual version of it at all? I might get one once I get bored of my 125cc.
love your comment! i have a friend with a 750x (automatic) and i love to call that a scooter. i also love to see his face when i tell him his "so much fun" bike's revlimiter kicks in around the same range where my tdi car. exactly where my inline 4 starts to warm my soul :D ohhh, those "it's an eco friendly perfect beginner bike" guys :D
WolfFrags yes I have a manual one (see my videos) and I highly recommend it :)
Luy 909 hmm cbr 300? I don’t know anything about this bike :) is it like the nc?
They don’t sell many NC700x’s in the US. So, they are like Panda’s in the wild, but a lot less cool. I rode a K1200GT for years and dropped down to the DCT 700x because, yes, I am having wrist issues from 36 years of riding and beating off. The Goldwing and Africa twin offer the same DCT transmission as well. So, i guess we’ll call them scooters along with anyone with a rekluse clutch or a quick shifter.
You gotta do more "It Came from Craigslist" videos man, I love them!
Yea, I love those!

@@terriblefurry Sure and the thing is the 250L is kind of more like a roadbike than a dirtbike. 250R is a proper track dirtbike. There is model called 250x which is a detuned version of the 250r.
Just find something on Craigslist that cost very little money and your dad will probably help you out. At Least that's what I did.

Same to me. I already knew I ride crap .... it's better than nothing tho!
I'm Neo Retro, I drive a Triumph Thruxton, but the thing is I tear around canyon roads faster than my buddies on their supersports

I'll admit I love the UJMs, original or neo-retro. But, yeah, back in the early 2000's when I owned that '79 Honda that wouldn't start so easily, let's just say I now appreciate ANY bike that starts when you ask it to.
A beginner rider on a SV 650?!! That thing brakes so hard it spits you off the front!
Yep, that's a beginner bike in Europe. 😂
I can agree. Despite it's weight, that bike's front brake is too good, but the rear brake is useless unless you use it with engine brake which is also strong.

I am 14 and I have a 125. Nuff said👮♂️

Hahaha, knowing how things actually work and being able to do all that "wrenching" is part of the fun. I even hear that being able to weld isn't witchcraft, it's a valuable skill. Yep, I built a bobber based on my '78 SR500 and am currently working on restoring an '81 Honda CB125S.
All bolt on stuff but you'll run premix as CR's dont have the lil hole to bolt the oil feed pipe into. You could drill and tap one.....
