I’ve been a personal trainer for over 7 years and although I can see why it feels expensive.
It’s actually not…
a single session with me would cost between 50-100 depending if your in a contract or paying as you go.
As a lifetime trainer you can charge 90/hr or more which is easily $500+ for 2 sessions a months not including the membership.
Once I tried the machine I was amazed by how it is smart technology.
As a trainer I can only customize based off what I see and you tell me (like if clients pretend it’s too heavy but you really could do more etc. and the system adjusts EVERY single repetition.
There’s no need of changing the weight between sets let alone reps
If your someone that is already committed to a trainer then you’re absolutely saving thousands of dollars.
If your someone that just wants a membership then sure save the money and go to your neighborhood $10 gym.
Great feedback and perspective. Going to pin this to the top for a while! Thanks Janet!
But your comment is a tier system. Tonal subscription is all or nothing.
Don't justify scummy practices by comparing costs to a completely different service. A home gym is not the same as hiring a personal trainer. They want customers to pay thousands of dollars for the device and still have the audacity to lock them out of some of the most basic features. This is similar to a car manufacturer charging a monthly fee for a seat warmer (BMW). Not cool.
@@adrenaline1320 I am with you C T. There is no reason for the price that the exercises are not available, plus the dynamic weight system. You want to charge for your live sessions, video library sure, but to turn off things that should be built into the computer of this system is just silly. If they have to charge more because they are selling it for a "loss" or whatever since they know you are going to get it made up in the sub so be it, but dont try to hide the price of the system behind a sub model.
apples to broccoli comparison, honestly.
The $50 bucks a month AFTER you pay the $3k for the machine itself is a total deal breaker for me. I was seriously considering getting one of these but not now. That sucks.
I do hope they improve the cost model over time. I hate seeing people pushed away because of it as it is a great product.
@@Learnwithtravis It looks like a great product for sure. If they would include what ever software/videos with the purchase price I would jump on it. Maybe charge a fee to update new or specialized workouts. The way it is now it's like an exercise machine timeshare with a forever maintenance fee attached to it.
I hear ya.
Can you have multiple profiles and keep stats separately for them? So the 50 a month would cover everyone in the household? Doesn't seem that bad to me.
Unlimited and yes, multiple users help justify the cost!
The $50 a month is literally the only reason I will look elsewhere for a home gym. Tonal is going to lose a LOT of potential sales because of this. The tier system is an awesome idea. Personally i would only like the features where it remembers your weight, the chains and those type of training features.
The basics you described seem like the function a smart trainer should have built in, WITHOUT a subscription. What a fucken joke by this company. Cannot wait to see what future companies offer.
I mean, it's only required for a year so basically just add $600 to the price. If you are already willing to pay 3k that's not terrible
I really wanted this system. I might just wait for a competitor to come out with a similar product and a teared subscription at a fraction of the cost.
I'm sure by next year the Chinese will do just that.
@@whatthetech7647 that is a very valid point. I could certainly aford it and do want it . But I am getting fantastic results on my total gym but my goal right now is weight lose and conditioning. But per my other comment amd to your point this is for people that have cash to burn.
I really want to get in on a Tonal, but the initial cost and subscription model is brutal. I currently own a Peloton and have been paying that monthly fee since 2017 or so. I completely get why they have to charge, but at least Peloton doesn't completely gimp the product if I choose to not pay monthly. Cost and reading tales of woeful customer service from Tonal are holding me back from taking the plunge.
Thank you no tonal for me too.
You're welcome!
Kaliyayah
$3000 for the Tonal and $600 a year to use it nope.
At a max of 200lbs resistance. I'm good
More than $3K. The "optional accessories" aren't actually optional and cost $500.00, and then a couple hundred more for shipping and installation and then there's tax.
I was thinking the same thing.
@@ajcfactor Yeah, for where I am the total is a few bucks north of $4k
And it’s videos like this that validate my hesitation and with more reason I will NOT purchase a tonal! Thanks for your honest review!!!
Sure thing! I just want people to be able to make the best decision for them. 😀
All , or nothing ? I think i’ll pass
You’re absolutely right, they even strip you from using the weight modes like smart flex and eccentric modes, which are features that should be basic, and not part of a membership.
I also asked them for a tiered membership and they don’t offer it. Not every member will use all the programs that come with the membership.
Yeah… I keep hoping for improvements, we will see.
I agree. It's absolutely ridiculous that they wouldn't allow for eccentric modes without subscription. When you buy a piece of machinery it should do all of what it's capable of doing, not lose functionality. You've already paid for the equipment itself - so it should at least do that.
@@andrewmackey9945 The sad part is, that as automobiles (d)evolve to include more electronics, they are starting to do the exact same thing where you'll have to pay a monthly subscription to use certain features. Do you like heated/cooled seats? That'll be $15/month then. They're getting away from letting people actually own the things they pay money for because they can make a lot more profit that way. And the more people go along with it, the more prevalent it will be.
Spot on. I will not pay 35 dollars for home gym membership. Insane. Would drop 4000 grand in a minute for a device I like, but extortion is extortion. What they take with the membership is border line illegal. I even wonder if a lawyer looked at this, if their would be an argument for a refund.
I'm so glad you posted this video. Because of the pandemic, I've been looking for different weight training solutions that don't take up a lot of space. I totally understand not having access to the instructor-led classes, but crippling the functionality that much is ridiculous for a machine that costs so much. At a minimum, it should still show the pictures of the exercises and remember the last weight you used. I can definitely cross this one off the list.
Agree. While it does sound like the perform product for what you are looking for, I struggle to understand the all or nothing approach. Heck, have a 10 dollar base tier that still is minimal but has enough to make the machine useable.
Not only that, what happens if Tonal goes bankrupt?
Basically this video.
@@kcuhc84 exactly my immediate thought
@@kcuhc84, going bankrupt is possible, but the biggest issue I have is that monthly subscriptions WILL increase at some point.
I agree 100%, this is not worth it. Companies today are doing their best to get you to pay a lot for something and then lock you into a payment that you can't get out of. Sure you can cancel however there goes what you paid your money for. Then after a while they just up the cost a few bucks here and there but don't look so bad at first until 3 to 5 yrs later you noticed the huge increase. Don't get trapped into these subscriptions, they will drain your bank account over time. Go buy something else or wait a little while longer until someone builds one that is cheaper and better. Thanks for the info on this product, I was just getting interested in the product and now thanks to others comments I have found another one that will work out better for me and no sub. cheers
The subscription should be only for the stuff that is linked to with trainers and expert advice. The manual selection and configurations should be always the same, always the complete one. Otherwise it is plain better to just pay for a gym, there you will have trainers, you can do cardio, you can kick and punch some bags, and you have a crap ton of equipment to do an extremely diverse training.
Hopefully they will improve their pricing and tier levels over time!
Travis, you're the best! Appreciate the honest feedback and going thru all options, even what happens when you cancel.
Thank you so much Nelson! Trying to share as much info as possible so people can make the right decision for them! Hopefully it is helping! Congrats on your channels success BTW!
Thanks. This is the video weve all been looking for.
And got the answer that made up our minds.
My pleasure!
Great review!! I think you answered a lot of my questions. Thank you man!
Love hearing that! Thanks Robert!
Thank you for making this video! My husband wanted to get the tonal for our home but we just can't see paying $50/mo every single month when our nearby public gym costs $25/mo for both of us... definitely a bummer to learn this!
No problem! My goal is to help everyone make the best decision for them and glad this helped you!
The Chinese will have a rip-off that costs 1/4th the price, with no monthly fee, by the end of 2021.
@@fiftyshadesofurban shut up
@@fiftyshadesofurban
Everything is made in china so why would it be shitty
@@twistedsd because it would be a knock off
The "real" Tonal is probably made from chinese parts anyways.
Still waiting
This helped me a lot. Thanks Travis
My pleasure! Glad it helped. Have a good one Curtis!
Great breakdown of features with and without subscription, thank you!
Thank you so much Rivzy!
It''s a shame. I was seriously considering the product till I found out how stripped down the software is without the subscription. I would expect the basic functions to be at what Travis wanted at the $20 level. Perhaps they may offer it in the future.
Exactly my hope. As they grow, I hope we see them offer more options and make their product available to a larger audience.
Great video. Completely agree that tiers/choices at different costs would be ideal.
Thanks Nick!
I have had the Tonal for a year, and I love it. I agree with you 200% I don’t use the instructor led classes or programs.
Glad to hear you love it Reggie! Some room for improvement but overall amazing!
Honestly they'd be better off not dumping money into that and hiking up the subscription price to pay for that
For some of yes, but the magic for a lot of people not comfortable with resistance training is having this machine and personal trainer always ready to go in their house. That is why I wish they had tiers to pay based on how you use it.
Thank you for bringing all this information out.
Me just watching the ads > had NO IDEA it required a continuous ongoing monthly subscription to continue to be fully functional.
Knowing that now > the Tonal is definitely OFF my list of wants!
My pleasure and glad the video helped!
awsome job thanks for the information.
You bet!
They should keep the core smart features free and build long term value for customers to retain subscribers. Include live classes, ability to get 1:1 training at a discount, enhanced social features. Be a real tech company. Innovate. Look towards other innovators like Peloton, whose subscribers are happy because they get live classes and so many more social features.
Just got my tonal yesterday! Love it. But yes I fully agree. Really needs a tier system. Only makes sense
Congrats and hope you are loving it! Hopefully Tonal listens and see some of this down the road!
I was so close to purchasing this. This is the first review in this manner in which I have heard. This is a purchase I will not make now. Thank you for your review.
Glad it helped. Hopefully they improve the subscription model someday because the Tonal is a very neat solution.
THEEE most realest (is that even a word?) video about TONAL I've yet to see on UA-cam... congrats on the honesty!! I left a like on the vid, and you deserve it! By the way, TONAL execs reading the comments? Fix your damn subscription! $50 a month is ABSURD. Add tier levels like the video reviewer suggested and MAAAAYBE then I'll consider buying it for a $15-20 subscription tier plan.
Haha. I will take it either way. Thank you and I hope they listen!
The gym industry wants to sign you up but they don’t want to let you go. It’s pretty shady, this looks no different.
Good Video. I agree with the Tier Package. I hardly ever use the guided workouts, but have to have the Chains, Ecsentric, and Smart Flex.
Thank you! With the subscription price increase they just announced, I feel like this is even more critical now.
I was considering a Tonal before watching this vid. Thanks so much.
No problem and glad to help!
Wow. Thanks for this video. I was very curious about the Tonal and on the verge of getting one, but haven't been able to get all my questions answered. I've been trying to find the specifics of what specific functionality remains w/o subscription for a while with no luck. I was already on the fence because I don't agree with the subscription model for anything beyond trainer videos or live stuff, at the cost of the unit all of those other features should just be part of the onboard software IMHO. Their subscription model as it stands (particularly at that price) is a deal-breaker for me
No problem at all and glad the video helped out!
Awesome video... Everyone was asking the same question but I think you are the first one to actually answer that and show us. Just like you, I will continue to pay. I think that is exactly what tonal is counting on. They have a great product and once hooked on it, it is very difficult to not be able to use it. Am I happy about it? Absolutely no and think 29 dollars rather than 50 is more reasonable. But it's not like I have a choice. Plus, I think the content will continue to improve to make it worth 50 dollars. I do not foresee a lot of people stopping the subscription once they become owners. Just my 2 cents! Thank you as always for your wonderful content!
Thank you! I appreciate it! We are very much on the same page!
I agree with adding tiers of pricing to fit each individual needs.
Hopefully someday!
Great review. My friend at work just purchased the Tonal. He’s had it for 2 months and has been trying to sell me on it. But your right that monthly subscription at $50 a month is more than what I want to spend let alone the price for the whole unit.
Thank you! Still waiting for them to improve that pricing! Great product and love it, but really hope they improve that.
Good to know. I’m going to cancel my order tomorrow. Thank you for the information
My pleasure. I just want to help people make the best decision for them. To be clear, I absolutely love my Tonal and am so glad I have it. But, their is a lot of room for improvement in the cost structure.
First I love your videos! Look forward to seeing your content regularly and find your Insight to be excellent.
Have you considered doing a video showing or comparing many of these online programs, cost and value. I know looking at just some of the videos you have compared with fight Camp, tonal, Peloton, iFit and I'm sure there are many other programs, it can add up quickly. I'm very curious to know which you feel are the best bang for your dollar and knowing money doesn't grow on trees where you think the best value is with the best content.
Thank you so much Rich G! That is a very good idea! I plan to branch out and test even more so once I have a better balance of program knowledge I will look into that!
Crazy over pricing, especially when you pay so much for it initially. They pretty much strip it down so far that it has none of the benefits you may have originally wanted it for. Why have a computerized machine that forces you to pay a “Gym Membership” payment. The whole point is to have a work out at home. 600.00 per year defeats the purpose of having a home gym system. The price per month should be more reasonable. I will pass.
I understand why they have a monthly cost. A lot goes into making this "interactive". Cloud hosting fees, onscreen personalities, programming team, video creation.... these all add up. My problem is with the lack of package options and top package cost. Bring that cost down and offer tiers and I will call it good.
@@Learnwithtravis Hell I can setup my own cloud and have all of my personal data go there and still save a ton. That monthly cost is retarded. They eventually will have to do a tier system after they realize new customers are slowing down.
I really enjoy your videos. Great quality and content. I’m a huge peloton guy but am looking to getting into rowing. Any chance you’d do a video on the Ergatta?
Thank you so much Tony! I have been strongly considering doing the Ergatta. It probably would not be until the summer or later depending on shipping times but I do have my eye on it.
Great video. I agree, 50 is way more than my current FULL gym membership. I’ll wait as others have said.
Thanks Paul! I'm hoping the price comes down!
Wow Excellent review. I have the iFit on my treadmill and I never use the social workouts. I love to do things manually. I was hoping that Tonal would be the same. Maybe in the future that will be the case as well. Thanks for your video.
Thank you so much Raymond! We are very much on the same page. Hopefully someday!
Great review. Really made me think about whether this is a good purchase for me or not. $50 subscription is way too much, when like you, I just want a "basic package"
Thank you. You have to fully understand all of the costs before you get into it. I absolutely love mine but if the cost was too much and made me resent it that would take away from the experience. Hopefully someday they have better tiers\packages.
Excellent caveat. So I practically have a brick if I don't want to pay... and who knows when they'll increase the cost. Thanks for the guidance.
No problem! It still has function but without the subscription I personally can’t justify the purchase price of the unit.
I will hold off on buying the tonal for this reason. Thank you for the video.
Glad it helped!
Thanks for posting.
No problem!
Thanks for answering the question every prospective owner was asking!!! That loss of basic functionality is disappointing.
No problem at all Mario! One of my main goals is to make sure everyone has enough information to make the best decision for them. Understanding that without the subscription this machine is not worth it is important.
@@Learnwithtravis I would not go as far as saying the machine is not worth it without the subscription. You can still do anything you did before with it. Except it will be like using "dumb"bells" but you can still get the exact same workout. You will have to set up the weight and what not. honestly it would look boring but you could still have a full gym at home that's compact and nice looking.
@@courthan1601 Very true. I think what I would like to see is the free version today, a basic tier that provides the manual mode of a paid subscription today at 20 dollars, and the full Tonal all bells and whistles at 35 to 40 a month. Let people pick the plan that best matches their usage.
Thanks for the info. I have a tonal and was curious what would happen if I cancelled the membership. I don't use the coaches but I LOVE the music. I guess I'll have to keep the membership 🥲 I agree there really should be tiers.
No problem at all! Glad the video helped!
Great video I was thinking about buying one myself but thanks for the info my LA Fitness membership looks real good right and it come with a hot tub and pool lol.
Haha! Don't blame ya there. Thanks Jevon!
Dude...killer vid, thanks. I'm exactly the minimalist type. Would have just wanted the bare bones machine and settings/weight retention.
My pleasure and thank you! Sounds like it could be a great match for you! They do make you pay for the subscription for the first year which could be a downside for you, but after that it could be just the Tonal.
@@Learnwithtravis
Hey, cool and honest review here, quite rare to see these days.
Since Tonal came out I've been thinking of designing a new machine, was already working with some gym equipment manufacturers. In my opinion it can be improved drastically by going a different direction. It would help a lot if people like you who have been using Tonal could answer some questions:
*1*
How do you feel about its versatility? Would it be a huge plus if the smart gym was modular with several attachments such as pullup bar, dip bar, step platform suspension trainer anchor...similar to a power rack or a training rig?
*2*
Is the 200 lbs of digital weight really that much for an experienced lifter?
*3*
What would you say is a good price for the membership? Around 20-30 dollars / month?
Thank you in advance!
That’s exactly why I sold mine. When I learned I still had to pay $50 a month for manual workouts, I got rid of it as quickly as I could and switched to Tempo...where they actually have instructor led, live classes and you’re not glued to your wall with pulleys. It’s also $10 cheaper per month...and I can use the same weights with other workouts.
I think I am going to test that product out. I love my Tonal and I doubt I am going anywhere, but I would like help people understand the differences and identify which product might be best for them.
@@Learnwithtravis I am addicted to my Tempo. The classes go by so quickly and I’ve seen really great results. Going back to real weights made doing things like squats a lot easier.
@@Hanoveur Sounds great! I most likely will get one!
I have a Tempo also, and wish I’d selected Tonal.
@@TheLillianYoung until you want to sell it or move it. Then you get to pay the Tonal Tax ($300) of paying them yet again to uninstall and install it. They also have to be involved if you want to sell it. Biggest pain I ever went through. Which is sad because the technology is incredible. I agree with you, they need to have tiers. Bench Training isn't the same as a class. I don't need the guidance every week if I'm doing the same thing as the previous week.
excellent idea; different subscription choices. that would also benefit Tonal with less people cancelling
Thank you!
Totally agree...I want a machine like this but not anchored into a monthly fee...charge me $200 more for the machine and include the manual mode options.
Awesome video. Answered the most important question, what features are stripped away when you don't have the subscription (literally everything). I went from about to pull the trigger to completely uninterested.
Thank you! So glad the video helped you make the best decision for you!
Thanks for the video, it was very helpful. Basically without a subscription you’re getting a space saving, hang on the wall in any room, inside your house, Digital weight functional trainer for $4000. Verses the huge garage hog, dumb weight, functional trainer, which costs you anywhere from $3000-$9000. As you pointed out with the subscription turned off, neither will track your workouts, Allow you too hook up a smart watch or heart rate monitor or any of that other stuff that Tonal Charges $50 a month for. Between the two, a dumb Tonal is still a better option than the garage hog. The 1 pound incremental weight adjustment, and smart handles that turn on and off the weights, gives you more tech than the other.
Good point. When you forget was you are missing out on and just compare the stack machines or other options, it still has a lot to offer.
@@Learnwithtravis this is all true but you'd think the company would still allow access to the exercise database for liability purposes if nothing else. It doesn't seem intelligent to remove access to instructional videos that could easily be implemented as part of the package whether you are subscribed or not. I'm a master trainer of 25 years myself and I can tell you I wouldn't purchase this or recommend it to clients if they aren't offering to supply those basics with or without subscription. An expert or a beginner could just as easily forget a movement and want to look back on it to brush up before performing it. They should have that ability to do so, no matter if they can (or want to) afford the subscription or not.
Great review
Thanks Sonya!
Agreed on the different memberships.
Hopefully some day!
I was just about to buy one today. Not anymore. Thanks for this.
Glad the video helped!
I was on the fence about buying one of these I’m glad you showed stood because now I will not purchase everything in life is a subscription now days might as well pay for a real gym membership at that point
The membership does offer a lot and all in the convivence of your home but I completely get where you are coming from. I don't mind a subscription, but I don't like where the price is.
@@Learnwithtravis I hear that and I’m all honesty I’d every single thing in life wasn’t a subscription now days I’d probably consider it but a gym rat like myself just wants a one and done system with the features you and I can agree upon that should be standard like you said in the videos
However that being said I do like your idea of a tier system I hope tonal sees this and agrees to it
@LearnWithTravis Great video! I read the majority of the comments posted below and more people think the $50 membership and stripping everything once you cancel the membership is so ridicules. I think you should share the link and for your video and the comments with TONAL. In addition to the subscription, what warranty included in the machine is not clear. It would be devastating if the warranty covers one or two years and the machine breaks down.
Thank you so much Zelalem! If I am able to build a relationship with them I most definitely will share! Honestly, I think they are already very aware of this. They are a newer company that is probably battling a lot of upstart costs. The question is, as they mature do they do the right thing and make tiers while reducing subscription costs or do they keep it elevated to maximize profits. Time will tell!
I was about to buy this thing! Jeeeez! Thank you for your video! For 50 a month I can go to a real gym plus get full membership benefits. It pretty much becomes a bunch of wires and a useless screen without the membership. That is a horrible business model.
Glad the video helped out!
Agreed. The point was to spend the investment to get away from a gym membership not to enter a virtual one.
Agreed. I think there should a tiered pricing for different access!!! like $25/mos for keeping the modes of Eccentric/ Chains but lose the AI for tracking your specific weight needs?
Yeah, something along those lines. I could see losing the guided programs but keeping all manual mode features at a better rate. Potentially tiers tied to single user family usage as well. Hard to say how to do it well, but some sort of tiered option to pick the right structure\cost for you.
“I love it so much, I’ll still pay the 50$” and that’s why it will likely stay the same.
It’s crazy expensive subscription! I’ll just invest in under sun bands and save me the money. Thank you for this review🙏🏼
You're welcome!
Tiers! I love it! All I want is eccentric mode with the spotter setting. I’ll do my own workouts. I want Tonal to save my progress still. So, yeah, tiers at $20-$30/month sounds reasonable for what I want to do with it.
Still waiting for them to listen to this idea! 😂
you're right on the money! the upfront cost is ok with me If I can cancel my gym membership, but to pay 4K and still HAVE to pay 50 a month? no way bucko
I have decided it's worth the $50 a month to buy this. My local park district gym was 25 a month with very little equipment and many classes only offered when I am working. The next closest gym is over 130 a month for family. They also charge extra for the "premium" classes. Don't forget that I have become somewhat a germ a phobic with this pandemic and just can't see myself working out again with strangers at close proximity. Or even trust equipment is wiped down after each use. Thank you for this review!
My pleasure and glad to hear the video helped you figure out this was the right option for you. It does sound like it will be a good fit for you! While I wish the monthly cost was improved, it is still a fantastic exercise solution and I thoroughly enjoy. I hope you do as well!
I like the tier idea
I just ordered a Tonal…. I personally can’t wait!
The wait is so hard!!! It will be worth it though!
Wanted to see this mode (no subscription) setting
I don't need nothing but that machine and accessories. 👍🏿 Great
Thanks
No problem!
well done!
Thank you Ann
Thank you. No Tonal for me. If it's subscription driven, they should definitely reduce the price of the unit.
Glad to help!
Awesome honest transparent review! I will cancel my membership in March 2023. And use the basic bare bones mode which is sufficient for me. Don’t need all those metrics, programs etc…
Will the bar tilt, spotter mode still work?
I think spotter goes away. Been a while since I made this video. Basically, you can move the arms and change resistance to do whatever you want.... but that is about it. Oh, and thank you!
@@Learnwithtravis hey Travis, my neighbor wants to sell me one for $1200 in the box brand new, how would I install it and would I need a subscription
Great video. I wish I had watched this before purchasing it a couple of years ago. I have really enjoyed my tonal, up until now. I decided not to continue the subscription afterwards, as I only use it for weights and not the programs. The bare screen is an insult and an embarrassment. It's a big FU from tonal to its customers to make it so basic after spending 3.5k on a piece of equipment. A tiered system would be a resonable option. Sadly I would never recommend tonal.
Don't blame you for this. I love my Tonal but a tiered system would be so much better. Keep the current setup and what you get for not paying. But have a 10 dollar a month level that has tracking and lift modes. Still basic but don't completely strip out the features of the machine. Maybe a middle tier that has everything but trainers. And a top tier that has everything. Let people choose the level of service they want instead of all or nothing. Would show they are looking out for their customers a well.
Just got mine, i like it but $50 is pricey!! Thanks for the info! They need tiers!
Glad you like it! Keeping my fingers crossed for tiers. We will see!
I 💯 % agree on the tier pricing !
Fingers crossed!
wow. You just saved me this purchase. I’ll stick to my gym membership for $22CAD a month.
If they offered a lesser tier with those basic functionalities you mentioned, I would not mind paying $15-$30… no tonal for me
Glad to hear the video helped you make the best decision for you. Hopefully they improve the pricing model someday.
NordicTrack Fusion is my final pick. I just feel that I need something basic. No worry for maintenance. No messing with my wall.
Nice! I have not tried that one out. Let me know what you think if you don't mind!
Don't get it..half the time it does not work..it has connectivity issues..I owned one and spent half the time getting replacement parts or having a repair guy come out or with customer service and their customer service sucks
Thank you very much for putting out all this information. You may he the most transparent person reviewing Tonal. I would still pay the $50 IF there was no limit to the barbell weight. If it's "digital weight" why can't they have much higher weights. I want tonal to be a long term investment and I plan on lifting more than 200 lbs (or aspire at least). I'm still tempted to buy it. Thank you for the great review!
My pleasure Shalini and thank you! Keep in mind that the 200 lbs. weight limit is probably more than that. Also, I don't know this for sure but I think this system is only designed for 200 lbs (not a digital limitation). Maybe someday they will come out with higher capacity unit! Have a good one and hope you love whatever you do decide to get!
There is basically not a limit to the tonal weight. It is 200 lbs of Digital Weight. If you bench press 185 lbs in real weight you could only do about 105 lbs on the tonal because the tension is on going and there is no help from momentum or anything. Look at any other reviews about how much resistance it really is because if that is what is stopping you from buying it then you are missing out.
I do agree. You get a lot more than a 200 lbs. free weight comparison.
@@shanepopieluch5305 I actually followed the advice and ordered Tonal. I'm soooo excited. Thank you for the clarification guys!
You will enjoy every minute of it.
Thank you very much.
No problem!
100 percent right. I want to buy it for myself but i'm almost positive that I won't use it anywhere near as much as imagined. 50 bucks a month is hugely overpriced
Hopefully things change at some point and this becomes more available.
Thank you for your videos, they have been very helpful for me to know details about Tonal. I agree with you that they should have a tier system in the subscription, but I have a feeling that they will eventually do so. Btw I finally made my order.
I do have a question, in this video at time code 3:02, you have a monkey bar which I’m sure you modified to work for Tonal. Could you please inform how I can get/make one of those? Thanks!
My pleasure and congrats! I hope you love it! I actually created a video on that so I will link it here: ua-cam.com/video/zzviYSUGLmY/v-deo.html
So glad "AL" showed me this video before I made this purchase.
Automated Learning? If so, I know what you mean and glad it put the video out there to help you out!
Mine is scheduled for 3/22 hopefully the Texas blizzard doesn’t backtrack it more...but I agree the subscription is a tad bit over priced and the free mode should let you remember weights lifted and basic movrs
Getting close! Hope it comes in on time. We agree on that price but the product is awesome! You are going to love it!
Thanks for the video. I purchased my Tonal last week and I'm scheduled to receive it on May. So excited. I agree that the subscription is a bit over priced, I think it may be worth it in my house if my wife and daughter use the programs as much as i will. i really like the different modes that are offered and the tracking is what i have been missing in my regular workouts( that's my fault, i get lazy). Really looking forward to more content.
My pleasure! Having multiple users would help justify the cost. The Tonal does have a lot of amazing features and keeps getting better.. You are going to love it! Thanks Geo!
Interesting review on monthly cost. I was looking at it as today is last use for 90 days and return. Based on this video..I am not getting it. Good Bye Tonal!
good video
Appreciate it!
This is good to know. Thanks for the information.
For some reason, I didn't get a notification that a new video was posted. Wonder what happened.
My pleasure! That is odd... I saw another UA-camr post about people not getting notifications so maybe something is going on...
Very disappointing that they strip it back to bare bones considering the price of the machine. I like everything about the Tonal, but that's a deal breaker for me, Thanks for putting out this video. Most reviewers gloss over the part about the subscription and now I know why.
No problem at all and glad the video helped! Hopefully the subscription model improves over time.
So sad to know that it’s all or nothing case. I want to love this so much and have it set on my mind im getting one until I came across this. $600 yearly membership is insane for a $4k equipment already when the whole point of having a home gym is to save (convenience too yes I get it.. but damn!)
I agree with the tier option, they may attract more people to buy this if they do that, like $10 to track your progress monthly should be good enough..
The monthly subscription fee really made me step back a little in getting it. I don’t think it’s worth it anymore.. 😩
Come on Tonal!!!
It is so tough. On one side, most people that have the Tonal and pay that fee end up saying it is worth it. Not that they like the price, but what they get out of it and how much they love the Tonal... they justify it. On the other side, as someone considering purchasing, it is hard to swallow all costs associated with the product. I get it, and it is a tough decision.
You can buy a top-of-the-line rack, bench, bar, weights and dumbells for less than this machine and the 12 months of subscription. Toss in a cable attachment for your rack and you have full-body capabilities with no extra fees and cab go up as high as you want in weight. The only reason someone should buy something like this is if they have limited space, but even then there are better options.
Completely agree that their are many options to reach your goals and the Tonal is not the only option. I don't necessarily agree that space restrictions would be the only reason to get this. Not everyone is familiar or comfortable with resistance training. Having the built in personal trainers, programs, and exercise demonstrations can be a huge assist for those intimated in this space but would like to work on their strength at home. The ease of use and how quickly you can fit in a large number of different exercises is also another factor. Space like you said is another.
thanks for the video. how would you compare the oxefit xs1 to the Tonal? do we see a comparison video in the near future!?!😜
Haha! That would be nice! I wish I could afford all of these products to create reviews and comparisons. Honestly though, toss them an email and say you would like to see a review by LearnWithTravis before purchasing. Sometimes it works!
Thank you. This just confirmed it to me, no tonal.
Kind of crap. You buying an equipment like this for $1,800 and they still want subscription. They should then do it like phone companies do.
Sign a contract for two years and pay the subscription. After 2 years is yours.
Sounds like a good price for all the smart functionality and plus the live classes launching soon. Let us know what you think once that’s active, it sounds great, and on par with Peloton, Hydrow, and other smart fitness brands that charge for a steady steam of premium content.
It is expensive, no getting around that. But I love the Tonal. Great workout, great content, love how easy it is to setup for different workouts. Outside of cost, no real complaints.
Tiers ....a great idea.
Thanks! Still hoping they do it! 😀
Almost bought this.. glad I decided to youtube it b4. Pointless to buy if I have to pay after 1 year. No thanks.
Glad the video helped.
WOW I didnt know about the $50 monthly fee and I almost bought it. I love gyms but hate to pay the monthly subscriptions. This sucks. LOL
Glad you were able to make the best decision for you! I don't mind monthly fees as I know what goes into these products, I just don't agree with how much they charge.
Travis, I agree that the toned
Sheesh, I had no idea that there was a subscription. Just saved me a ton lol.
Glad the video helped!
This let me know exactly what I needed to not purchase.
It’s too bad because it is a great product. Hopefully they improve the pricing model.
It’s a piece of worthless crap unless you’re willing to perpetually pay the price of a GOOD gym membership for the rest of your life. What’s up with the new generation and not owning anything. My dads weight plates still weigh what they did in the 80s. They will be in our family for generations
@@narutorandomness457 it’s called a convenience fee
I was looking at tonal as a potential replacement for the gym, however with the 50 dollars a month plus the 4K for the machine (tax, shipping, set up And 500 for the additions), this purchase would Never cover the cost of my gym at 24 a month (golds) and is not a liable solution on any count, replacement or supplemental.
Thank you for the video and this alone has stopped further reviews of tonal.
No problem and glad the video helped Tim!
This is what the plan for, which is for you to give in. I will wait until they provide more options before ordering one.
Not a bad idea. Hopefully they do that.
