In regards to yellowing leaves; if your Rehabing a plant that has been over watered ect don't be afraid to hang onto any yellowing leaves that are showing areas of green still when you trim back the plant after a repot. The plant WILL continue to use those leaves until it grows enough new ones to sustain itself and those yellow ones will eventually drop off when the plant has recovered. I tend to get given/buy many rescue plants and watching them recover when the only leaves the plant originally had were mostly yellow is a joy and seeing how hard the plant works to produce replacement growth using the old damaged ones is quite interesting. I have one beautiful adonsonii I rescued from a supermarket brilliant root system but terrible leaf issues from over watering - two months after a repot & trim as soon as it came home down to the two most healthiest looking yellowing leaves (it didn't have many abd those remaining were VERY bad condition) it has come back with amazing green shoots and new growth. Watching the old leaves though for those two months was fascinating, as they followed the sun around the window taking up as much as they could to help aid it's own recovery. They're still currently on the plant as the new growth has yet to harden off and is far smaller than those two leaves but that plant has been such a star and really gave me an appreciation for rescuing plants that no one wants to take home because it might be too much work to save them.
They're usually the most rewarding and probably cheapest plants... and if something does go wrong you've only lost $8 or so and not something like $30-$200+
I live in Melbourne, Australia and plants here can be quite expensive, so rescuing cheap clearance plants and rehabing them has been how I got started with my collection. I have many beautiful plants now that probably would have been left out at the nursery in the compost 'left to die' trolly for pretty much nothing but a little bit of care and effort to bring them back.
Im just tight when it comes to spending cash and all but two or three of my plants are rescues. i enjoy the challenge so much i carry a bottle of water in my car and can often be found outside shops watering the plants ive brought. ive paid as little as 10 pence for plants about 18 Australian cents. im always amazed with the tenacity of poorly plants. Keep up the good work!

Aw I love this and I totally agree, reviving them is the most exciting part of having plants for me! I usually pick the poorest looking plants from the store to give them a chance but also my friends and family keep up a steady stream of plants they would’ve thrown out so I even get them for free which is nice 😅

I have had a few houseplants for a few years but am just now getting on board with "the deal." One of my plants was a jade. I loved him. After a few years I got cocky, tried to winter him in my kitchen.....he died. Locking for a replacement I was greeted with a variable cornucopia of beauty at a local plant dealer. Seeing what is possible has made me want to actually learn the ways of the green thumb adorn my home with exotic beauties from far and wide. You have been a vital help as I begin this journey.

Guilty of most of those to some degree! I think as my plant care gets more ordered and timely those issues get less but my biggest failing is buying plants then finding a place for them instead of the other way round.

I`m really enjoying my collection thanks mate. I`ve lumbered myself with a few new plants, Adonsonii, Stormanthe triostar, i know but it was a healthy and mature,(not my usual fair lol). I`ve been meaning to do an update vid but new job and life keeps getting in the way, and i was only moved to do the vid from watching your channel so i could record my success and my faith in your advice. I seem to have an addictive personality and a thirst for knowledge that i could not quench with other youtube channels.
I find your passion for your plants aspirational and your advice solid and correct. I like the way you deliver the information. Please keep up the good work.

I recently bought a moisture meter and I have found that it helps me
a lot! I also use a mix of 1/3 succulent soil mixed with 2/3 good potting soil for my non-succulenta. It helps them drain better and has saved some of them.

You are a plant saver. I had brought snail to house from nursery as I didn't check bottom of the pot. I always either over water or underwater my plants. Please please guide through this and also with the soil mixes.

I received a Norfolk Pine as a Christmas gift. Brought in an infestation of fruit flies/gnats that I finally got rid of with mosquito bits.

New subscriber! I bought a Cat palm online. Wanted it for a corner next to a north-facing window. Bought an uplight to put behind it. Palm arrived in good condition on May 5th in a 10" grower's pot. Started reading about the plant & found out it's fussy--needs distilled water & likes high humidity. I live in Florida & the air conditioning vents in the ceiling blow in this direction. Due to medical problems I was unable to repot it right away. One day I saw what looked like spider webs between the top of some of the fronds; the webs were very closely woven, almost like a cocoon. I think they might be spider mites. The plant had started getting dying fronds and I was cutting them at first then decided I should probably just trash it as I can't lift the pot to take it outside to spray it with Neem oil. After I used up the gallon of distilled water I started using Miracle Gro in gallon of tap water that I left uncapped overnight. It seems to have perked up. Can I spray the Neem oil on a rag & try to wipe the small fronds? I'm glad I watched the video about not misting the plant to try & increase the humidity (42-48%); I only did it once. So here it is 4.5 months later. Do I buy the Neem oil, new pot (12"), distilled water or trash the plant?
Welcome! If it’s perked up if definitely keep at it. If you think mites are still there consider giving it spray down. Neem oil is good for pests so yes wipe the fronds with a cloth. It’s always nice to save a plant from death!
