I was a super sensitive kid and definitely an introvert who felt a lot. Now over time all those sensitivities have been blunted and there's an emptiness where those things used to be. I'd like to reconnect with those things because I think I somehow over corrected and am missing a lot of beauty of life. Thanks for reading, looking forward to the cast.

I was soooo hoping for a very long time that this interview will manifest between you two. Susan literally changed my life with Quiet and put me on the path where I found Rich - and also the amazing Julie. Recognizing, embracing and leaning into my sensitiveness and introversion lead me to tune into my body, finding joy moving it, declining on numbing the pain of pleasing others to the detriment of my being has bought me so much peace and joy. Now I am on my way to to find how I could turn my pain into a creative offering while I feel immense gratitude of seeing these two human beings in one room, going with their magical flows of exchanging beautiful thoughts. One of the most ancient sad instruments is the Armenian Duduk. It was introduced into the film industry about 15 to 20 years ago because of its unique ability to articulate bitter sweetness and longing. Armenian culture, which dates back about 5,000 years, embraces this emotion completely, with most of her music and poetry distinctively in this vein. No Armenian finds this depressing, but uplifting and soothing, as ironic as it sounds. Rather, it is like putting a balm on a wound. I would add that depressed emotions lack inner vibration, whereas embracing bittersweet emotions possesses no resistance, but are welcome. Thank you for a fabulous guest and episode. I really understand Susan's loss in regard to her mother, the pain of it has no words to describe it. It's like the core of who you are, your early heart and everything that your heart has become since is shattered.

I am 47 now. When I was in my young teens I read one of Milan Kundra's books, where he desribed a feeling of sweet sadness and longing and called her Litost. It is a made up word.. or maybe a word in Czech, his language.. I don't remember. But it stuck with me, and I have never forgotten that it. It describes such a distinct feeling that we all know, but don't have a word for. Till this day I call it Litost.
Great podcast!! As an introvert who gets to go out to play and serve, and comes back to the comfort of her cocoon at the end of the day to re-charge, I so relate. I always wonder about the adaptiveness of melancholy and sadness. I used to be on antidepressants and always thought sadness needed to be dealt with. But I'm now wondering how those feelings can be used and "mined" to reach greater meaning and connection as described here. Still working through this at the moment.

All is the brain,mind which means all the body by giving signals both ways , human body cells and nervous system . AN EVER-ADVANCING CIVILIZATION
INTRODUCTION
Humanity, the Bahá’í writings explain, has passed through the stage of childhood and now stands at the threshold of its collective maturity. The revolutionary and far-reaching changes occurring today are characteristic of this period of transition-a time which can be likened to adolescence. In this period, thoughts, attitudes, and habits from humanity’s earlier stages of development are being swept away and new patterns of thought and action which reflect its approaching maturity are gradually taking root. ‘Abdu’l-Bahá explains: “That which was applicable to human needs during the early history of the race can neither meet nor satisfy the demands of this day, this period of newness and consummation.” He continues: “Man must now become imbued with new virtues and powers, new moral standards, new capacities…The gifts and blessings of the period of youth, although timely and sufficient during the adolescence of mankind, are now incapable of meeting the requirements of its maturity.”
The hallmark of this approaching age of maturity is the unification of the human race. Shoghi Effendi writes that, while unity “of family, of tribe, of city-state, and nation have been successively attempted and fully established” world-encompassing unity is “the goal towards which a harassed humanity is striving.” In another passage, he refers to “the inauguration of a world civilization such as no mortal eye hath ever beheld or human mind conceived.” He asks: “Who is it that can imagine the lofty standard which such a civilization, as it unfolds itself, is destined to attain? Who can measure the heights to which human intelligence, liberated from its shackles, will soar? Who can visualize the realms which the human spirit, vitalized by the outpouring light of Bahá’u’lláh, shining in the plenitude of its glory, will discover?”
The emergence of a global civilization prosperous in both its material and spiritual dimensions implies that the spiritual and practical aspects of life are to advance together. Through faith and reason, it becomes possible to discover the powers and capacities latent in individuals and in humanity as a whole, and to work for the realization of these potentialities. Recognition of the fundamental harmony of science and religion also allows for the generation, application, and diffusion of spiritual and material knowledge among all the world’s inhabitants.
