- Yesterday they cut national insurance by another two pence. Today, the Prime Minister and his Chancellor want to scrap it altogether. How they would pay for it isn't clear.

Labour says the pledge is "more reckless than Liz Truss".
Meanwhile, after studying the Budget, the Institute for Fiscal Studies says most people will be worse off at the end of this parliament than at the start.

"The Ancient Vow Is Calling
We hailed from the furthest reaches of the heavens
Our hearts brimming with compassion
Bearing others’ entrustment
Shouldering others’ hopes
We came to this world to await the Creator
Who would remake the universe and save
each realm’s lives, opening Heaven’s gates wide
We came with this longing, though now buried
Our purity and honesty fade as the world declines
And we often give in to earthly temptations
Modern thought strays dangerously far from the Divine
The Great Way that saves now takes the world’s stage

Listen, for your Kingdom is calling
that you may take up the divine path

NI is not a hypothecated tax source anymore, it is just a general tax. Getting rid of NI and instead raising income tax to replace NI is much more logical policy from the Tories. It will also mean that older people who still working after they reach state pension age will not be able to skip out on paying NI anymore which is good, and instead likely just pay a higher income tax rate. This is good for anyone reason in that they are the richest demographic in society, and can afford to pay more.

Exactly. It doesn’t work like that anymore but that’ll be the line. They’re getting rid of it because they know public healthcare and pensions just won’t be sustainable for much longer.

@@SaxJockey Yeah pensioners will likely have to pay more tax but this demographic is the wealthiest demographic in society and we are also an aging society so tax burden for everyone will increase. Not to mention that pensions have benefitted a lot from the triple lock - they are getting an 8.5% pension rise this year after getting a 10% pension rise the year before that and these pensions rise cost billions in the context of already significantly stretched public finances and in the context of workers still suffering from over a decade of wage stagnation and decreased living standards. Bribery at its best.
Direct tax is actually thrice Rooshi m8. The grotesque abomination that is Council Tax which was birthed by the even more nauseating poll tax your feudal icon Snatcher introduced.
Bullsh*t ...so income tax would go up ....plus VAT ....plus fuel tax ...plus council tax ....Give with one hand take away with the other ,And there is it is PRIVATE HEALTH CARE just like America.
Wtf he is lying, NI is ringfenced for certain public services
He probably will, god help us, but I guarantee Labour won't reinstate it if they get in.
Energy wholesale prices came down which resulted in inflation coming down and Jeremy Hunt and Sunak claim they have bought inflation down same goes with interest it was the Bank of England not them
This shushi Sunaks party have lost the plot
*starts buying plain tickets*
😢😮😮😮
He’s a creep
Hands off the NHS.
Scrap national insurance and pay for your own health like in America that's the plan . Its obvious as for pensions you will work till your 70 if you're lucky. UTB
well then, i'm fucked
got a heart problem since birth, inm the U.S that's a ''pre-existing condition'' that forbids me from buying insurance, so if i had an operation i would have ot pay wholly out of pocket
heart ops in the U.S can exceed $200,000
do you have that much spare cash? i know i don't!
Prime minister is mentally unwell..
I hope this is remembered by the media when the tories start complaining that pensions are unsustainable. Btw, whatever happened to Boris' social care scheme? Y'know, the one that had a penny added to NI a couple of years ago?
No national insurance bye bye to nhs sunak only interested in privatising nhs and making him and his mates money.already wifey made millions
Splitting tax into Income Tax and National insurance never made sense anyway.
He will never be able to do it unless he joins another political party and none of them will have him - and at least that woman has worked it out - it’s another tax on the elderly - the people who have already paid NI all of their working lives
So no pensions then as your pension is worked out on NI contributions. What will they call your NI number, that they need for everything
Shows what the Tories truly are.Abolishing national insurance will lose the government billions, which means that public services will be screwed.Totally and utterly mullered.
No NI No NHS. Its a big con
Scrapping state pensions - he really thinks a good thing? Income tax & NI are supposed to fund different things.
We workers pay over half our income in tax, both direct and indirect - what are getting for it?
Stephen Hammond looks like his arms are not in the sleeves of his jacket. Now I can't unsee it.
He should abolish the BBC so no more tv license fees!
Council tax is wrong too. Everyone should pay the same amount.
desperate man, desperate measures. wasteman
