Right because in real life Ellen and Jesse are super close, I think she even calls him her little brother. Plus both Mer and Jackson have had a similar lifestyle and their love for Lexie
It is not Mer job to reach out to Thatcher. She is the child and he is the father. She did what she had to and she made it clear that she would be open to a relationship. All he had to do was make an effort, she was his responsibility. I am like Mer, my father abandoned me at 8. After graduation I sent him a letter telling how I felt about him and I gave him the chance to start up an relationship. I forgave him. He still hasn't tried. I am not gonna waste reaching out to someone who wants to be closed off from me. Even his wife tries to reach out to me, kinda how Lexie's mom reached out to Mer.
So she lost her mother, her step mother, her best friend, her unborn baby, her sister, her husbands best friend, her husband and now her father...my lord how the hell is she still standing!!!
Christina didn’t die, she left. So when i said best friend I meant George. Im sure i have missed some one else. I bet when it ends SHE gets killed off lol.
Mark was her friend too! Dirty Mistress club! She’s also drowned, got blown up, had emergency surgery (season 3), gave birth with no power and bled out, opperated through a miscarriage while her husband was being opperated on, told a shooter to shoot her, been in a plane and ambulance crash, watch her mother bleed out in front of her!!
Grey curse really works. Mer has her own long list of tragedies and even Ellis didn't have any better. And now Thatcher. ➡His wife Ellis cheats on him. ➡Leaves him & takes Meredith away. ➡Doesn't have a relation with Mer.(he didn't try) ➡Meets Mer again, who hates him. ➡2nd wife dies from hiccups. ➡He becomes an alcoholic. ➡Destroys his liver & gets new liver from Mer i.e. estranged daughter. ➡Midlife crisis in form of Danielle (his girlfriend). ➡2nd daughter dies in a plane crash. ➡Doesn't know his grandkids from Mer. ➡Now has cancer & is waiting to die in hospice. Grey's are really cursed.
I thought she was the second oldest after Meredith. Although I guess if you go by Meredith, Maggie, Molly and the Lexie was supposed to be the youngest.
First of all he was always an alcoholic, he just didn’t acknowledge it his whole life. Second he was a shitty father and doesn’t deserve to know his grandkids.
Why has no one talked about the fact that he smacked her across the face in front of the whole hospital? Like imagine abandoning your child, then saying you want a relationship after she shows up at your door, then blaming her for your wife’s death. He’s not a good man.
@@lisrod29 personally, I think everybody has to earn their respect, regardless of status or relationship. Just because he’s her dad doesn’t mean she owes him anything if he doesn’t deserve it. That’s just how I feel generally.
@@shanstergoodheart5177 He walked out and left her and Ellis. Ellis was planning on being with Richard but he wouldn't leave Adele. She then couldn't handle it, tried to commit suicide, found out she was pregnant with Maggie, and took Meredith and fled to Boston. Through all of that, Thatcher put no effort in trying to get even shared custody of Meredith. In season 2 when Meredith shows up on Thatcher's doorstep, she asks why he didn't fight for her and he responds by asking if she needs anything.
She said to jackson his response wasn't helpful. A little untrue. As the daughter of an absent father i respect his answer. You don't know because the feelings aren't strong. There was no encouragement for us as children. I was given the impression that I wasn't important enough for him to care about me. So were jackson and meredith. Her ambivalence about him has always been completely logical to me, as is jackson's response.
I don’t think she’s saying that his answer was wrong, I think Meredith was saying that wasn’t the answer she was looking for. She was hoping for something more concrete. I know I’m a little late with this reply but still. Also I mean no hate. Just looking to clarify
He calls her Meredith in every instance in this clip. However, when Richard says it, it blurs slightly and it can sound like he is saying Mer, but he actually typically uses her full name most of the time.
I’m waiting for mine to die because he is an actual deadbeat and chose drink and drugs. I wouldn’t even show up at his funeral to check he is actually dead. 😅
I mean poor Mer. She just has all these sisters that keep coming out of the woodwork. Granted the fact that she keeps accepting every one of them. But seriously.😢
Not fully true because molly literally was mentioned at the very beginning but other than maybe two episodes we never seen molly again. Which I always thought was weird they even had her in the story line if she was never and I mean never relevant
They better never touch her children - SHE OUT LIVES HER CHILDREN OKAY? This woman has lost EVERYONE in her life at this point - and she still stands tall and functions normally without being a mean biddy.
hmm...will we ever talk about the fact that Meredith also does not talk to her other sister Molly. Does she talk to Derek's sisters, you know, her children's aunts. Seriously writers!
She has close relation with amelia and with the one who gave derek her nerve so we could assume she does even if not derek didn't either. He always kept himself at distance from his sisters
Also Thatcher did try a few times...just sayin. I mean I'm not a Thatcher fan by any means but he definitely did try to reach out to her more than she did to him.
okay I have a few problems with this but the main one is comparing Thatcher to Jackson's dad,umm no, like him or not Thatcher has tried multiple times to be there for Meredith but he just gave up I guess because she definitely wasn't interested although I thought the last episode he was in they had an ok relationship? weird.
It's not a competition, Meredith's dad was not there for her, he wasn't a father to her and instead chose to be a father to his other 2 daughters. He chose not to stay in touch with her up until Idk when and so to her it's kinda a comparable situation. She also did not say that her dad was as bad as Jackson's, she just said they both have horrible father's.
He never tried, Susan tried to get them to have a relationship then she died and thatcher slapped Meredith. Then she gave the ass a piece of her Liver. He never tried and now he is dying. She has -10 emotional attachment towards him.
Didn’t someone call her dad to find out where Mer was after Derek died and she just took off. Why would anyone call him if they weren’t in contact and he hadn’t been at the funeral? How would they even have his number? It seems a bit weird to mention him specifically back then and now just say they never had contact. This doesn’t feel like a well thought out story line at all.
She has never been good with emotions like that. Doesn't help the people she loves keep dying/ leaving her behind. Her mother, her step mother, Mark, Lexie, Derek all dead. Christina and now Alex gone, not dead but just not in her life. Not her people. Maggie she doesn't really have the history with, in some ways she is too bright and innocent and Amelia is just as messed up as Meredith. She has her own issues. So Meredith hides behind the doctor mask when talking about those who died.
I've never quite understood the Thatcher hate. Didn't big Ellis essentially just take Meredith away from him. He could have dealt with their reunion better but by then she had decided that she hated him also his wife died shortly afterwards and he was rather upset. It doesn't seem as though Ellis offered him contact that he refused. He doesn't seem like a deadbeat to me.
It wasn't just that, they reconnected during the show and when thatchers wife died he blamed Meredith and slapped her across the face. It's not that he's a deadbeat, its that he's an awful person and an alcoholic
There's no indication he even tried to get access to her or even visits. I'm sure Ellis made it difficult but any court would have given him at least visits. And then when she became an adult he had many many years to make an effort. She even opened the door for him, more than once. Even then he didn't. And was actively nasty to her some of the time. But mostly just ignored her.

I love the relationship between Jackson and Mer; they're just like true siblings (Richard's been acting like a father to her since season 1 anyways)!
agree. I think they should have built a really strong friendship between him, Mer, and Alex. They were the last guys from the same graduation year.
Right because in real life Ellen and Jesse are super close, I think she even calls him her little brother. Plus both Mer and Jackson have had a similar lifestyle and their love for Lexie
