Where WWE and the FOX broadcasting company entered a 5 year partnership to bring WWE’s second longest running weekly episodic Television show to a brand new network. This retrospective looks at the highs and lows of the past 5 years of the blue brand. From dog food to pandemics to bloodlines and everything in between.

The 2022-2023 Bloodline storyline with Sami Zayn was some of the best storytelling WWE offered in years, The whole build up to Sami facing Roman was brilliant.

2021 Smackdown is not talked about enough 🙏
When I look back on the Fox era of Smackdown, my mind will always go to “Honorary Uce” Sami Zayn. Those 2022 Bloodline segments were such a breath of fresh air at the time. They’re still so fun to go back and watch to this day.

I didn't start watching as a fan until 2023, but I remember out of curiosity I checked out the premier Smackdown episode because I actually had Fox, unlike USA. The only episode of TV I saw I got to see _that_ happen.
That first episode of SD on FOX was a mess backstage considering that they advertised Sting making his Smackdown debut just to keep in catering, falsely advertising Stone Cold and cancelling the 205 Live show for that night basically last minute

2020 to WWE is like WWF in 1996 it’s the baby steps that eventually lead to something greater

Smackdown during this era had a lack of star power for the most part, especially in the main event scene as it was mainly just Roman and Raw had most of the top guys so it was hard to compete with when the roster was very slim overall
Speaking of the Smackdown hacker, I honestly thought he could’ve won the MITB that year since it was Mustafa Ali under the masked and he got screwed the previous year.
2019-2020 SD was at its lowest 🤦🏾
That's around the time I stopped watching WWE on Mondays and Fridays. Only watched the PLEs, started back watching Raw and Smackdown back in 2022

Smackdown on FOX started off rocky but got better over time with the Bloodline Saga, Seth Rollins vs Edge, Gunther's Dominating IC Title Reign, etc. I was there in person for the March 8 2024 Episode where Cody Rhodes slapped The Rock in Dallas
Roman Reigns Was My Highlight
During This Era Of SmackDown
Especially With The Bloodline Storyline
I always here people say this about triple H, that he craves the attention and that's why he always comes out for big events or premieres etc, but he is literally the guy who runs everything, why would he not be the one who comes out announces it or welcomes the audience to a new platform etc, in 2020 Vince probably told him to do the pandemic one though because he was one of the only senior management people at them shows who was also an on screen personality
Roman carried this era acknowledge him
It has to be a hit simply because of the bloodline story.
Roman revived smackdown during this period with his new gimmick

Only person i think of for this era is roman. This is when he became a true legend. Most of the other stuff besides the bloodline were hit or miss but the bloodline made smackdown their show for sure
And NFL on fox's erin Andrews made a cameo on the very first episode of smackdown on fox as a special backstage interviewer where she interviewed kofi Kingston
2019-Summerslam 2020 : One of the worst periods of SmackDown. Just straight up garbage storylines and nothing else to look forwards.
SummerSlam 2020-Crown Jewel 2021 : It was a good period for SmackDown, Roman Reigns was carrying the show like almost nobody else ever did, Bayley, Sasha and Bianca did a good job carrying the women's division, Edge and Rollins had a very good trilogy and Brock Lesnar told a good story with Reigns and Heyman.
Crown Jewel 2021-SummerSlam 2022 : it was again one of the worst periods of SmackDown, the Roman and Brock feud completely buried the roster, legit nobody mattered, Reigns being absent and stale didn't help either.
SummerSlam 2022-WrestleMania 39 : Probably the best period in the history of the show just behind 2002-2003 SmackDown. Sami Zayn involved in the Bloodline storyline is an all time great TV content, Gunther having 5 stars classics with Ricochet, Sheamus and Drew McIntyre, Dom getting more heat than anyone in the wrestling world thanks to the Rey feud, LA Knight getting organically over with the crowd etc., man do I already miss this time.
WrestleMania 39-SummerSlam 2024 : Tbh, the show has been heavily carried by the Bloodline stuff, nothing else really stood out and the roster being weak doesn't help either.
But since we are in the new era of the show now, with LA Knight's title reign doing well, the Cody/KO/Orton storyline getting spicy and Rock and Reigns being back in the Bloodline storyline, I have faith for SmackDown as of right now.

The OG Bloodline was the absolute best thing on SmackDown from 2021 - 2023. Every time Roman and rest of the group were on the card you knew something great was happening.
