Am new to silversmithing and really enjoy your videos. I have been a wire worker for a couple of years but these youtube videos have helped me take the leap to silversmithing.
i dont mean to be offtopic but does any of you know a way to get back into an Instagram account? I somehow forgot my account password. I appreciate any help you can give me
@Timothy Dante i really appreciate your reply. I found the site through google and Im trying it out now. I see it takes a while so I will get back to you later with my results.
I love your saying Mr Harrison. ' I dont mind seeing the hand of the maker.' Mr Soham Harrison Thank You for sharing your extensive knowledge. It is a true form of eternal life, you will live on in the form of beautiful works from the HAND OF THE MAKER. 😊😊😊
I am so happy I found your videos. Thank you for sharing your gift and craftsmanship with the world. There are fewer and fewer true artisans remaining in the world. Do you sell your pieces somewhere?
you solved one of the biggest mysteries for me, thank you so much for sharing your knowledge! you make it look so simple, hopefully I will expand my techniques.
Thank you so much for this. It was INCREDIBLY helpful!! Should I worry about hammer setting technique possibly breaking the stone while setting the stone in the bezel?
Thank you so much for this very clear, excellent video. I'm interested in using a double bezel lock on ceramic pieces I've made. I'm a potter, and I've been making horsehair pottery for many years. Recently I've been making platters using tail hair from the customer's horse. These have been popular with customers as a tribute or as a memorial to their special horses. Now I wonder if I can make double bezel pendants using ceramic (stoneware) pieces (1"--2.5" diameter) that have been "horsehair fired." They would be more fragile than the stones you use, so I'm unsure of whether they would take the pressure. Do you have any thoughts or opinions on whether this process might work on vitreous ceramic pieces? Thank you again for your excellent video. You're an excellent teacher.
Can this technique be used for holding and hammering thicker bezels (18ga)? Will the thermo loc hold in place when hammering with more force in order to push the heavier gauge bezel?
I am wondering if thermo plastic could be used in chasing and repousse, I always wanted to try it but the thought of paying so much for pitch made me not bother. This is a great idea, thank you so much for sharing :) And thank you for inspiring me yet again lol!
This is really helpful, thank you. I've seen a bezel set stone with a design soldered in place over the front. I'm wondering if the stone is set from the back after the design is complete? Could the thermoplastic help with that? I think the back is flat though.
Thank you so much for this very helpful video! Are there any stones you would recommend avoiding the hot water with? Do you think it would be ok for pearls, opals, tuquoise, and other softer ones? Thanks! Rebecca
Another problem is (heat maybe) treated stones. I was cleaning the sterling setting on a carnelian briolette in baking soda salt and hot water solution only to have the stone discolor. What a disappointment as that stone became mottled. However I love this video and have been looking for such an approach for a long time. Thanks Soham!

Thank you Thank you!! I took a class where I was told to "stretch" the metal bezel while burnishing - what a lot of work and still no tight bezel!

Edith, you can set vitreous enamel in a bezel so ceramic would probably work too. I would use a bezel rocker and not a hammer when testing.
Thank you so so much for this video🙏

Thanks! This is exactly what I was looking for.
What is the putty you use? Thermal lock?

Thank you for the great video. What about dendritic agate? A little scared about boiling water. Is there another method to get it to release?
@@JD-yz2iz I *think* he said one could also use a hairdryer. It would certainly be worth trying.
Nooo!
Would dop wax work to secure the piece?
is there an already made punch i could find somewhere?
hi! thermalock is like lacre?
+Adan Gaspar basically yes. it is just to hold the jewel
where do I buy therma lock from, as it looks like a great product
thermolock at otto frei
Is that the same thing as jett sett? I'm not loving Jett sett, but this thermoloc looks better. I'm not finding it on Otto Frei though.
it is under GRS thermo-lic in the engraving section

otto frei
Thank you,so much....:):)
Olá, aprendo muito com seus videos, em que país vc vive? Eu vivo no Brasil.

Your videos are greatly helpful!!! Can you tell me what gauge metal you used for the bezel?
.5mm is 24 guage
Muito bom!
thank you very much
Hi Soham,
Great video! Can one use Jett Sett instead of the Thermo-lock?
yes, jett set works well, i forgot to add that info.
what if you don't have a microwave?
I use a small hair drier
thermo-lic is available from otto frei in the engraving section under GRS thermo-lic
