Thank you so very much for this video. You are the only person who described this process step by step in an accurate and easy to understand way. For us beginners it really is important that the details and tips and good camera work are included. Thank you again Mr. Harrison
Thank you, Soham, for your excellent tutorials! I love your plain and simple way of teaching. Very clear. You have a natural gift for teaching. Your skills as a metal smith I'm sure were earned by hard work!
Awesome tutorial! I was looking for bezel tutorial for a faceted gemstones, by far yours is the most logical and easy to follow for someone who is just a beginner. Thank you!
Hi Soham, thanks for the great video. I am self taught and of all the settings to make and use, this is the one I use successfully each time. As an aside, I don't even use calculations, and they still turn out quite well. Too bad you're in Australia, probably everyone wishes they could watch over your shoulder. Take care.
Thank you! great tutorial. I Would love to see one on how to use pre-made step bezel and also have the video continue as you actually sett the stone. I assume it is the same as setting a cab where you push the bezel wire over the stone.
Thank you for your video! You are a fantastic teacher. Please consider making a video showing how to place this type of bezel setting into a ring shank!
thank you so much for sharing your expertise. I watch your tutorials regularly and have learned much over the years. Your kindness and passion are evinced in your videos
Well done work dear darling ... a great effort the most gorgeous ... best wishes for your success and lasting success ... You well and the health and safety ...
Many thanks! I am working on a project right now and this information is invaluable to me as a newbie to silversmithing and being self taught. I have a some 5mm stones I am setting. I look forward to watching your other videos. Thank you for sharing your knowledge with us!
"Fantastic Videos" thank you! I am working on faceted bezels for earrings and this is exactly what I needed, as I never bezel set a faceted stone before. I was wondering, is there a preferred thickness of metal to be used for faceted stone bezels and if not what is your opinion on what works best.
Soham - I thoroughly enjoy and appreciate your craftsmanship and instructional style. You have helped me tremendously as a beginner. This is my retirement passion and I have learned much from you. Sharing your skills is a window into your heart - thank you. Do you reside in New Mexico?
I really must agree with everything Grant said. thank you so much for posting these videos. I have absolutely enjoyed your voice tone and the amount of patience it shows. It's been easy to learn from you.
Hey Soham! Just wondering how a step or prong bezel would work for a different shaped stone such as a triangle, pear, oval, square etc... If you have a link of how to make a prong bezel for faceted stone in one of those shapes that would be awesome!
Good morning. Soham...so I'm not sure if I'm missing the video or if you have one. ..I'd love to learn how to set tiny 3mm faceted birthstone into just plain ring bands...your the only one I trust to learn from...I've had several people ask me for them. .Rio has a set with 10 of each bs color...thanks in advance if you could let me know if you have a video or add it to a a wish list so to speak lol...enjoy your Sunday...xo
Hi Soham, how do you solder the. Round bezel on to a silver ring made from half round sterling silver stock , thank you for your videos which are great. Cheers David a beginner from Tasmania
Grade teacher I am an admirer of your talent, a few I started in this art, would like to learn about tempering parts in gold and silver, can you help me? Much obliged.
Do you have a website? Do you do work for others? I plan on buying the tools and learning your techniques but I want to get some settings made for a present. Thank you
I was wondering if you could just solder a small wire to the inside edge of the outer bezel set in 1mm from the top edge as a resting edge for the stone rather than creating a double bezel?
I am really happy at finding your videos. ..when it says 'copyright' does it mean that the video is copyrighted or the techniques? I wouldn't want to copy your designs verbatim but I do want to use the technical knowledge as courses for jewellers (silver/gold smithing) are extremely expensive in the UK unless you are a teenager or art student who is making a life career of it. I want to be able to work silver (and maybe gold) in the same manner as you do, as silver PMC has its limitations. .especially in which precious stones can be fired and I really needed to explore other ways of stone setting. Thanks for the wonderfully informative Videos. ..all I need now is a whole heap of technical tools. ..I have quite a few but the circular cutter etc and the rawhide Hammer are new to me...I have heaps of different pliars and general tools but I need to get quite a lot of files and there are pliers that you use that are different from the ones that I have. I will get there...where there's a will as the saying goes. ..
Sir first of all thnx for all urs education in making jewelry, in this Video you made calculations as (11.9+0.5)*3.142 =38.96 but actually you cut it 39.25 long... so please tell urs why u cut little extra... My email id is muffadalkothari@gmail.com and whtsapp +919571473452 Please any one can reply why sir cut little extra length Thank you
Hi Soham, what file number do you use? Also, if you don't mind including the tool/material list in the description :) I'm sure many will benefit too. I'm so grateful for your detailed tutorial, thank you.
Hi Soham, could you tell me if you have a tutorial for how to bezel a vertical walled stone? I have a hexagonal sodalite stone and I cannot find a tutorial on specifically straight walled stones. And also, I just made my first ever solder join, (playing with copper at the moment because it's cheaper) and your voice was going through my head the whole time. "When the flux goes clear out the solder will flow'. Thank you!!!!!
when I am doing the step bezel and I go to set the stone I find that the stone slips around a lot when I am hammering it in. I tried using tape to hold the stone down but I find that it is not that effective. Do you have any other suggestions to keep the stone stable while I set it? Thanks great videos btw :)
What a lot of fuss about nothing - to measure the inner bezel use a pair of dividers - measure the height of the stone you are going to set, from the girdle to the culet - then read that measurement off next to a ruler - simples!
oval is easy, for the outer just add the length and the width, divide by2, add the thickness of the metal and multiply by 3.14, for the inner it is the same, but minus the thickness. pear you will have to form it around the stone
amazing video and so glad to see this here as I was exactly searching the web down for oval stones - I work mostly with small dainty stones so most of my stones are 6x4mm tops (and often not calibrated and all random sizes) - this is great advice and I can't wait to give it a try tomorrow with your calculations rather than just forming the bezel around my stone and then spending ages trying to figure out the inner bezel. Thank you very much for sharing! Regards from a portuguese in England :)

Excellent stable video tutorial -spot on with bezel measurement. I now understand how to properly calculate bezel measurement. THANKS!

He's in Australia? I assumed he was in the States. I guess I shouldn't assume, right? I am self taught, too, and have learned so much from Soham.
Your videos are so brilliant and informative! So many great tips, explained so well. Have you published a book I could buy?
Thank you for passing on your knowledge and your precious time. May you and your family receive abundance in all areas of your life!

it would be the video: ua-cam.com/video/BxuuLOtQXFc/v-deo.html the ring would need to be as thick as the height of the stone.hope this helps
Thank you so much! Would you know is there a different formula for a step bezel for a pear shaped and also oval stone, knowing how much metal to cut?
Again fantastic tutoring the way you explain the procedure brings a beginner like me confidence. Many thanks, looking for the next one.
Hi Soham, are you able to show setting a square faceted stone in a bezel? Shelly
You have such great video's. Can I ask how you work out the length for the bezel?

Thank you for this super-informative video. I have one question: what gauge of silver sheet did you use for the bezel?
0.5mm 24 gauge
I was wondering if you could just solder a small wire to the inside edge of the outer bezel set in 1mm from the top edge as a resting edge for the stone rather than creating a double bezel?
of course, it is just more difficult to get it straight and even.
What about measuring & soldering both... before bending?
Excellent video-thank you ;-)

Much Appreciation Sir. Thanks!
Soham, I thank you once again. Cheers.
Great tutorial. Are you using a anti oxidizer or boric acid solution? My silver always oxidizes every time I solder.
use an antioxidant, many types are now available, but the boric acid and alcohol still works well.
I have a pear shaped stone I'd like to make a step bezel for. How would I calculate the length for that bezel?
Brilliant tutorial cant wait to try it!

you just have to make the bezel high enough to go over the top edge of the stone, 1/2 to 1mm.
I've never seen anyone melt the solder from the top instead of trying to "pull" it through the join. Much easier that way!
Could you do the same with a oval stone?
what gauge silver are you using?
Thanks, Soham!
Thank you very much...very clear and good tips:-) .
Hello Mr Harrison, i was wondering how your tool is called where you cut your solder with? Where can i order one?
+Diana Ewert solder cutters at rio grande or otto frei online

i use thermoloc from otto frei made by GRS
ohhhh ok I have that stuff but I havent actually tried it out. Thanks so much for the quick response. I will give it a try!
Thanks so much. ..I'll watch now :)

small stones you could go down to .3mm (28 gauge), personally i like .5mm (24 gauge) just be sure to use fine silver, or 22carat gold
