Battlefleet Gothic: Armada unveils its Space Marines trailer
The Space Marines DLC will release on June 21
Battlefleet Gothic: Armada, the RTS videogame adaptation of Games Workshop’s classic tabletop game by Tindalos Interactive today unveils a new video trailer presenting the Space Marines - its upcoming faction. The Space Marines fleet will be available on June 21, and will be playable in the multiplayer modes of Battlefleet Gothic.
As advertised for several months, the Space Marines faction - as well as the Tau faction currently under development - is free to all Early Adopters of the game. The Early Adopter offer applies to all pre-purchase owners and people who buy the game during the first two months of the game’s release - until June 21. Players now only have few days left to purchase their Early Adopters Edition of the game and receive for free the Space Marines and the Tau factions. Players who will purchase Battlefleet Gothic: Armada after June 21 will be able to purchase the Space Marines and The Tau as DLCs.
The Space Marines are the greatest of humanity’s warriors, fierce soldiers that have been subjected to intense training, genetic modification, and psycho-conditioning. Their fleets are experts at close-ranged battles, sporting well-armoured ships and specialize in aggressive boarding techniques. In addition, they have access to two unique faction traits which makes them immune to insubordination mechanics and gives them the ability to prioritize their attacks on different subsystems when boarding.
The Space Marines DLC includes 5 different Space Marine chapters. The past week, we introduced you the Dark Angels and the Space Wolves. This week, we’re unveiling more about the Ultramarines, the Imperial Fists and the Blood Angels.
The Ultramarines pride themselves on their strict adherence to the Codex Astartes, and view themselves as an example for all Space Marines Chapters. To the Ultramarines, the Codex is more than a set of rules, it represents discipline and respect for order. They are among the best warriors of the Imperium.
The Imperial Fists are recognized to be among the most loyal Chapters to the Emperor and have been instrumental in holding the Imperium together during the bleakest of times, with renowned stubborn resilience. They are Siege Warfare specialists, a title exemplified with their role in leading the defence of Earth, which gave them the title of "Defenders of Terra".
The Blood Angels are a Chapter known for their impressive bloodlust, and an occasionnal deadly rage, but also for their keen aesthetic skills and their exceptionnal longevity, even for Space Marines. Their Chapter Master, Dante, is more than a millennia-old, and leads his Chapter wisely and with exceptional efficiency.

What I really like about this trailer is everything Spire says has something to do with the chapter they show

After the civil war, the Dark Angels swore that as long as one Fallen is still alive and reluctant, they shall be forever cursed as "The Unforgiven". The will hunt their old treacherous brethren down until their curse can be forgiven.

No, I'm quoting the dialogue where it subtlety introduces each chapter with their distinct identities without actually naming the chapters while they are on screen.
For a WH40K ignorant heretic, it might look like ordinary pretty words, but for those that know these chapters they would recognize the keywords, those words weren't just there to make a pretty speech, they all meant something to the on-screen Space Marine chapter.

> Better Plasma tech/relics:
Boosted speed and ranged weapons/strength.
*Space Wolves
(If it truly is "fluffy)
> A inordinately larger ship vs ship fleet: cheaper units (different victory conditions?) And a array of Imperial Navy Strike Cruisers with lances and Nova Cannons.
*Blood Angels
> When shit needs to be ****ed up and with chances of less 'restraint' than the 'Wolves: Teleported Terminators, Boarding torpedo Veteran/Assault squads+; Furioso dreadnoughts - all occasionally going berzerker mode.
Oh... And Death Company/ Dreadnoughts when you reallllly want to be a prick.

And being the most balanced, I cannot fathom their unique trait. Deffinitely not unorthodox in fleet desposition (Space Wolves).
No hallmarks of superior technology from a more enlightened time. (Dark Angels).
More restrained and less refined in butchering anything with their bare hands when their weapons get in the way of melée. (Blood Angels)
Their might be one, and a gloriously dickish, exception for the Ultra-Smurfs to become (legitimately!) awesome:
Hear me out. Plain gear and no perks like non favoured/marked fleets. So "lesser" in 1 on 1 with any less orthodox Chapters.
But wait! There's more! Instead, they at periodically summon reinforcements: Successor Chapters owing fealty to Macragge - including it's 'normal' Imperial Navy equivalents.
... That would lead to a growing threat, and a unique mechanic. And terrifying if these units reflect their prior points cost/ unit's strength.

+7hart2 woah, someone got triggered. dreadnoughts are way too big to fight efficiently in the confined spaces of a voidship and they are usually situated ready in their drop pods or in the forge susspended in stasis untill the chapter needs them. and thunderhawks carry them underneath the craft so there is no way to deliver them into the target ship itself.

...And they were launched from the assault bay not too long ago. Are you referring to the ugly little "flying landraider" or the thunderhawks transporter? Either way: launch bays could feasibly host a dreadnought working as a bouncer and deterrent from concerted escapes from space hulks+ any craft capable of flight bays.

Take note, Total War. This is how you set up a preorder faction for a Warhammer title. You take a popular faction that generates tons of hype that is not part of the base game, but still connected to one of the base protagonist/antagonist factions, and you release THAT as your preorder bonus.
We've all had our fun making fun of the Dark Angels and their paranoia in keeping the Fallen a secret, but let's be fair to them here - the 41st-millenium Dark Angels, and all of the Unforgiven for that matter, are incredibly, fanatically loyal to the Emperor. They view the fact that a major faction of them in the Horus Heresy turned the Emperor as an unforgivable stigma against them (thus the name the Unforgiven) and seek to hide that shame from the rest of the Imperium. If the Dark Angels had come clean about the Fallen and the incident on Caliban back when it had happened, I really don't think the fallout of this would have been anywhere near as disastrous as they'd thought. _Everyone_ had traitors in their ranks back then, and in fact Guilliman actually took in loyalist factions of the Traitor Legions during the Horus Heresy and the Chapters that these factions turned into were written into history as successors of his own Legion to preserve their honor. This also would have gotten the Fallen captured and killed in much shorter order with the whole Imperium on the lookout for them.

The voice actor of Admiral Spire really did a great job! I can feel the emotion gripping his voice.
Richardsen it's the ending were he falters a bit. Really sells the willing to die but holding out hope.
That and he is probably in the process of bleeding out, hence the tiny stutter and lower voice.

Anyone else think that they could implement specific successor chapters as some, like half of the favors? Like the Imperial Fists fleet could have Black Templar favor option and a Crimson Fists option, the Blood Angels could get Flesh Tearers and Blood Ravens favors, but the favors would reflect the specific chapter shown in the trailer, so Dark Angels could get successor chapter favors, and favor options for the Death wing or Ravening, you know, a combination of successor chapters and Chapter-specific organizations would be really interesting and awesome, if the developers have the time.

Hmm, I saw chapter icons for the Ultramarines, Imperial Fists, Blood Angels, Dark Angels, and the Space Wolves.
I wonder if your ships start out as Ultramarines as "default" and then you can "upgrade" them through favours to be one of the other space marine chapters?
Any chapter is an upgrade to girlyman's ultrasmurfs
The basic ones are Imperial fist, you see them throughout the campign numerous times, they even appear in the main trailer, and in cutscenes. They made it pretty fucking obvious xd
Actually, it's not a bad idea. The Ultras and the Fists adhere closest to the Codex Astartes, and the other chapters are who start to specialize in certain areas. I have no idea if the Codex Astartes applies to battles in space though.

Something about that line just oozes badass. I may use that in some manner for my Homebrew Chapter.
I actually think that the fallen would be a term for service men that have lost their life. Since as you die, you join the Emperor to wait for the final battle, or some such.
Other option would be the people fallen to chaos or fallen from the emperors light, but AFAIK there is no redemption from that.

Whatever you think about the gameplay, and I like it, they are really really good at the trailers and cutscenes. It truly feels like 40k in a way that the new DoW trailers don't.
I hope there'll be an extra set of missions where the battlefleet is chasing the fleeing chaos ships out of the sector
