I like how Clarkson did a speed run of James Mays Our Man in Italy decades earlier.
If you watch all Clarksons programs in the 90s it was a speed run of top gear in the 00s he went to Vietnam said he couldn't ride a bike before he did it on top gear years later.
it‘s captain SLOW for a reason lol
Back when italy defended it's borders.
I absolutely adore this show. TV has gone a completely different direction and I miss these programs that actually tell you something about something in an interesting way.
agree 100%
And in quite loving way. 🥰 It plays with Stereotyps in a humorous way. But 20 years later...
@@wuetend9 exactly, it's the way tv should be made. Actually bringing useful information to the viewer in a playful manner.
tv has gone in a completely different direction because tv is useless… I hate the idea of tv. The future is in the internet lol.
however i definitely still agree that stuff like this isn’t made anymore
Clarkson should do it again!

This documentary made me want to explore my country, it's amazing how we italians take for granted our country, thank you Jeremy.
So good to see this extremely underrated show getting recognition. His Motorworld and Car Years series are just as good.
I loved this series! I wish Clarkson could do a today's version. Thank you for posting.
Completely different demographics today
All same problems. Only now mainstream media is frightening people more with exaggerated footage and agenda behind the coverage.
But yeah, let millions Ukrainians in Europe, who mostly haven't experience a day of war.
Clarkson has lived the best life of anyone I know...
Idk Brian Blessed might give him a run for his money

Having been visiting Italy since 2014 and moved from the US to a small town 30km outside of Venice in 2022, there is a supermarket here, but I do most of my shopping at the small individual shops; for meat, bread, fruits and vegetables, pastries. I like it so much better. The owners get to know you. It becomes more personable, and I shop for what I need. Generally every couple of days. I’ve talked with my friends, that I worry about trying to imitate America with supermarkets, that they could be losing one of the things that makes Italy what it is.
I’m so much happier here; I’m not anti-American, it’s just a better fit for me. I like that there’s never a rush.
How do you pull it off financially? I would love to move to Europe, but I can’t find a way to search for jobs for Americans abroad aside from becoming an English teacher. Any resources?
@@GeorgeWBushDid911 I apologize for not getting back to you sooner; I was never alerted to your query.
I’m retired, and my monies are automatically deposited to my banks in America, and from there I can transfer money to my account in Italy. That is possible because one of the accounts is with PNC (Pennsylvania equivalent of Bank of America, Chase, et. al.).
Unfortunately, I can’t answer your question about finding jobs in the EU. The only advice I can offer is:
try the UK (downside is they’re no longer part of the EU).
There are many countries both in the EU and non-EU where you can live comfortably. 2 countries off the top of my head are Portugal and Spain.
In my case, my rent and utilities (for what we would call a studio) is €600/mo. That fluctuates depending on the exchange rate. For example, when I moved here in December 2022, my rent was ~$670.00/mo, now it’s ~$625.00. My friend had a 2 bedroom apartment, in the same area, that was (if I remember correctly) €700/mo including utilities. €600.00 is my only major expense. Because I’m a resident of the Venice region, I buy an unlimited monthly pass for €30.00/mo. This allows me to ride all the buses and local trains/trams as often as I want, and the vaporetto (water bus in Venice proper) is only €3.00 each way instead of the €10.00 each way. Another “perk” of being a resident is, that I can visit any country in the EU, and stay there longer than my passport would normally allow.
I have no need for a car, because as I said: my food and such is within walking distance, I can take a bus just about anywhere, and I have friends that will give me a ride if I need it.
I hope this answers your question. Again, I apologize for both: 1) not answering sooner; 2) not having any information about how to find work.
This show is the best... Moby, Vangelis... Even the soundtrack brings me back
I’ve absolutely loved re-watching this series thank you Fifth Gear for Sharing them
Once again, thank you guys so much for uploading these in such good quality, really enjoying these
Enjoy this classic Clarkson series for the first time on UA-cam! Produced by Chrysalis Entertainment in 2002, which later became part of the production company that makes Fifth Gear (North One). Make sure you subscribe to be the first to know when the other episodes are uploaded.
The production company made it free, most wouldn’t we should be saying thank you to Chrysalis!
This show gives that level of excitement of Anthony Bourdain shows, and it's really unique. Wish Jeremy did more of these episodes after.
The Italians at 13:00 make excellent points about the respective food cultures of Italy and the UK.
Yaaay! I was following your uploads of the serie and noticed a few days ago that the 5th and last episode "Italy" was missing. Thanks for putting it up! 🇮🇹
this is absolutely brilliant, love the series, wish I lived this era of tv
This is the funniest episode but the series is great! Thanks for uploading 😊 More! More! More!
Wow, exactly 20 years later I just watched James May visit Italy and go to what looks like the same gladiator school :)
I've always been the happiest when travelling through Italy and France with my friends. Those the best memories I have.
Man that "Rachel's song" by Vangelis caught me off guard at 3:15, what a splendid tune, thanks for the show.
also 2:35 :)
10:35 Jeremy, the reason why we drive fast is because we are always late! 🤣
jeremy: does any woman want to have my babies
italian lady: married or single ...
That is the most italian thing ever :D
Do you know all of them i could suppose. Great traveller
They don't want an offspring ass.
The Pamplona road between France and Spain is very scenic too. There is even a little shop on route where you can get snacks, an ice cold soft drink and even limited seating to catch a breather, relax and watch the world go by. Before continuing your journey.
I've got a feeling that the European Fanta has real orange juice because it's main competitor is Orangina which is orange juice and its pulp hence the slogan "Turn the bottle upside down before opening" to mix the pulp with the liquid. Orangina is way better than Fanta as it is more refreshing and contains less sugar. I now live in Australia and Fanta has had it sugar content dropped to 42g I think.
Loved your show, thanks x
They use real cane sugar in coca cola products. In America we use, unfortunately, high fructose corn syrup.🤮
Thank you Fifth Gear!!
The "fashion" show segment is so full of English subtle humor and innuendos, You got to really understand English to appreciate it as i do as a Swede, too funny. Thanks.
So glad this show popped up I have enjoyed watching it for the last two nights!
The amount of knowledge and life lessons Clarkson has gained is unimaginable.
And yet DON'T PUNCH WORK COLLEGUES IN THE FACE completely slipped him by... 🤔
These types of programs are priceless and timeless!
The sound tracks for all of these are awesome, I miss the old days.
This show is phenomenal! And ive just discovered it tonight 22 years later :)
Thank you for posting this series.
and again, thank you for uploading this
18:40 goes to italy
says thank you
"gracias"
Jeremy Clarkson is the best at showing the truth in the cover of humour. Good work with undercover journalism
Coincidence perhaps, but I like how immediately after saying “like a Robert Ludlum novel” Moby starts playing. This very episode was aired a week after the Bourne Identity premiered. A few days after this episode Extreme Ways was released and used as the iconic closing credits music on all subsequent Bourne films…
I didn't know Moby did the icon Bourne theme song. Thanks for the info!
16:45 love the hand gesture of the professor of sociology
20 years later here we are....
Thanks for uploading these for free.
Thank you very much for publishing this series.
Domino's Italian franchise operator, filed for bankruptcy in April and suspended operations at all of its locations in late July, 2022.

Who could have seen that coming?? Lol
I’m surprised it took that long
Pity it doesn't do the same here, their pizza's are disgusting!
The Prodigy and Happy Mondays in the first five minutes - what a soundtrack!
Either i'm having a sustained 'senior' moment in not remembering this prog at all, or it slid beneath my radar and i missed it completely when it was on TV.
The best presenter .... in the world
The early 00s never looked so old fashioned 😂
Nothing wrong with that.
I reckon this series is an episode short - he should have visited some of the Scandinavian countries to get a more complete picture. And perhaps an eastern European country or two.
It's brilliant and very current!!!
Nice :) this series was fantastic.
"Driving and going fast is an act of liberation, being punctual and on-time is an act of slavery." What a line!
ill happily stay right where i am thanks.
interesting to watch the series, thats enough for me thanks.
24:18 Jeremy was wiser than our army guy
2:36 quite a nice pair
They're around her ankles now, probably 😂
In that case I can leave the ropes at home
The music is amazing
The Classic Clarkson Things 😈😎🥂
2:36 - most played 😁
3:18 … Bladerunner theme from when Deckard and Rachel fall in love. 🙌🏼🙌🏼
Clarkson definitly should remake this show!!
would love that as well, but this time he should actually go all the way and not just turn back In spain. There was one country left in that direction... ONE
Cool and funny show with good music
I'M Surprised that "E-Type"-did not break down !!??
Ahh, it did, several times in this series.

My first experience of driving in Italy was in 1992, I stopped at a traffic light and it seemed as though the whole of Italy were sounding their horns at me! this continued when I kept to the speed limit.
Oh my god those Vesta curries, we once cooked one of those whilst camping in the peak district, it got thrown in the toilet and we walked 1.5 miles to a restaurant!
Reminds me so much of the Keith Floyd series. Just immersed in the cultures
18:40 saying 'gracias' to an Italian 😂

Mr Bean Holiday moment
I'm glad someone finally introduced fine food to the Italians, about time
Clarkson must have given May a lot of stick for copying the Gladiator school in May's recent Italian programme.
I love this series so much
the early 2000's, Clarkson and his personality
educational and entertaining
so much better than watching any new topgear or grand tour episode, and more family friendly
it's a shame he didn't do more like this.
maybe even earlier , 90's its before the Euro if you notice he's talking about French Francs
@@tarek307it was 2002
You should look up his other programs there all good and is quite alot. Shame he is only known for too gear
The queen has this every night, god rest her soul 🙏
Brilliant! Love this show! Thanks
19:44 When JC says "Bella Figura" (=beautiful figure) it seems like he says "Bella Figona" (=raunchy way of saying hot girl)... 🤣
The Fat Of The Land mentioned 🔥🔥🔥
Minute 11:10 it is not pedestrian zone, It is a ZTL ( ZONA TRAFFICO LIMITATO) which means (LIMITED TRAFFIC ZONE ) and not pedestrian zone....only residents can get access to those zone with a vehicle. I hope Jeremy learned how to read the foreign road signs better since then . ( by the way... it is all written on the sign itself ) .
13:11 clarkson can answer this question now himself
The cooking scene is hilarious!
"I started this series as a little Englander..."
Guys, you cut off the couple last lines of the episode 🤦🏼

Thanks a lot for Sharing this Funny program .!! I am loving it..!!
Great recent uploads. Thank you 🙏
Go to 9:09 and run the end of the sped up section frame-by-frame. That was heart-attack territory until I realised both lanes were for the same traffic direction.

Viva l'Italia!🇮🇹
Classic Clarkson! Fabulous videos of 2 decades ago….indeed, driving about the EU is like being in a James Bond or Robert Ludlum book or Two for the Road.
Clarkson is a TV GOD
I know each episode you get a scratch of what each country was like but I genuinely believe Italy episode was not even a scratch! Still most of Italy's issues 20 years ago which is when this series was made still happens today, unfortunately immigration in Italy is still an issue and economically Italy has gotten way worse than when they were using Lira's. I know Europe as a whole now is in a financial crisis but these signs were shown to us many years ago but unfortunately we ignored it and hot greedy it's sad really.
We didn't ignore it. We laughed at it, and the EU capitalised on it and pushed communism on them, like they have done with the rest of the EU. Only the Slavic nations have survived, but they have their own issues.
Just wait for the start of European Caliphates being established, it's only a few years away.

@@alexanderyoung6468 my sympathies, your country was a wonderful place till the WEF got their claws into it.
It matters to everyone though. If you let the persecution of one people slide, and the next, and the next, and the next, who remains to stand up when they come for yours?
The creep is slow, and we'll hit tipping point soon. Now is the time to move, or to stand up and defend the freedoms our forebears fought to win for us. Your choice will show what kind of a man you are, but to lay down and accept it is the most cowardly choice possible.
I wish the best of luck to you & yours. 👍
