Just because you love someone doesn't mean you should be with them encapsulates how I feel about the Carol/Hal relationship honestly.

This is true sometimes. Even if it is a tale as old as time

1)Tharros is probably a powerful empath, maybe a Durlan/Saturnian hybrid since Durlans don't have psionic powers and Saturnians are less powerful clone racw made by Martians. His ring may have allow him to connect with all who wear a UP ring and manipulate their emotions giving him control over each to some degree. His ring may have Controller Darkstar tech since those suits were all interconnected and allowed higher ranks to control the level of power of lower rankwd Darkstar deputies. Come to think of it, Tharros looks like a Controller. Him somehow gaining access to Controller tech, who are the other sister species to Oans and Zamarons (all self evolved from Maltusians) and just as old, it would explain his ability to alter power rings and destroy power batteries. His empathic powers could also explain why the UP lanterns are untrained bcuz strong will power of the OGGLs keeps them from being totally controlled by him. But the UP rings and Tharros does affect them somewhat. Hal being the strongest willed instinctively felt it leading him to quit, the others were affected to stay but sinced what was wrong and were rebelling against the effects. Kyle being who he is has themost adverse and transformative reaction to someone trying to manipulate his emotions. John Stewart not needing a ring being completely unaffected. Carol's emotion is love, the most powerful emotion along side rage(which has detrimental effects on the user) can easily overcome these poorly trained and manipulated UP goon lanterns.
    2) It may not be to many people's liking but Carol literally told Hal he didn't have to change. She loved him as is. Some many people seem to want every superhero relationship to be smooth and perfect like Clark/Lois, Barry/Iris, Arthur/Mera, and Wally/Linda. But fans forget about Bruce/Selena, Ollie/Dinah, and Roy/Chesire. Really, think about the difference between those 2 groups of heroes. One is a group of nice and virtuous guys who had great support and coping mechanisms to handle the tragedies and traumas they endured as they developed. The othwr group are a very flawed men who didn't have the best guidance in dealing with emotions. Bith groups are still noble heroes that found people to the ones who love them completely warts and all. Hal is in the group of playboys. Saying Hal should change not only takwa agency from Carol now, but for her whole life she's been pining for someone who doesn't and has never existed. Her possessing the Star Sapphire ring proves otherwise. She loves Hal just the way he is, reckless, unstable and unpredictable and heroic, noble and caring. Carol likes the conflict. In real life, we call it "bickering like an old married couple". That's their dynamic, always has been. And they've been together longer than any other couple in DC, relatively. They are an old married couple just without the marriage. Carol doesn't deserve "better" based on what others perceive to be better for her. She deserves what she wants, what excites her, and what she loves. And that's Hal, a guy who is the greatest wielder of the most powerful weapon in the universe who can do almost anything but still a human who can't juggle everything well at the same time. To quote Viggo from John Wick "he is a man of great will and SINGULAR focus" . He can save the universe but he's gonna forget to call. He has focused his will on fighting othwr emotions that he's not good at expressing and handling other emotions. Look what pain a guilt did to him, Parallax. Hal is the most normal average joe of the big guns. A really flawed guy who still picks up that ring every time when he, more than any of the big guns can put it down at any time. And that's why Carol wants him.
    3)I'm long-winded sorry

I feel like Carol is living up to what was stated in Johns’ run about being the best sapphire & because love is full of tropes & cheesiness things don’t land subtly or right with some folks unlike when we talk about Hal being a green construct of will because of his godlike will power
For Carol it normally translates to loving Hal & her father by giving up her dreams to run the company & making Hal her number 1 priority hence why she always wears her sapphire ring to save him from something like a blackest night , a GL sinestro & so on (that’s literally the reason she has put on the ring the few times she did since the Johns run) or why she keeps hiring him or going back to him
It’s worth noting that she’s considered the best Sapphire when WW was also a sapphire so in a way her love for Hal & her father surpasses WW’s love for everything which is another corny love trope that also ties to WW not being a GL character but still a legit canon idea to think about
The thing is that she wants to be Hal’s no.1 priority which she was before when Hal quit the Corps to be with her but now he can’t do that even tho he wants to as being a hero is who he is, Carol never understood that before & that’s the real obstacle their relationship has never surpassed which Adams said is why he’s exploring Carol’s identity as a hero & why he & Waid agreed to do that further by not only making her prominent in GL but in JLU as well (it’s from an interview with Dom of X here on YT)

so most of the GL rings have been replaced with LP rings with only a few true GL rings sitting on Earth and now Carol is the last of the Sapphires. With the batteries and most rings being destroyed, are we seeing a full 'reset' of the lantern corps? Very interested to see how they restart the Sapphires or any of the other Corps which have been destroyed

I’m surprisingly cool with Carol being the last of the Star Sapphires. Never truly liked the Zamarons, and them making Carol their new “queen” always made me feel…uncomfortable. If the Sapphire Corp comes back, I’d really like it if they went the route the GLC seems to be going on Earth, training a limited number of ring bearers that better represent the Corps’ mission statement. The Sapphires have an interesting power set (especially their teleportation abilities to those they care about), and I hope we get to explore them in a meaningful way!

Honestly something I hate about this run might be how Jeremy seems to start/tease character growth or some sort character introspection only for him to completely abandon those plots for no reason. First he did it with Hal/Carol, we got a whole issue of Hal talking with Barry and expressing how he finally understood he was the problem and maybe he should just leave Carol for her own good (he should), and what does Jeremy do? He used Barry as a narrative device to keep pushing this relationship, completely undermining any of Hal’s development as a character. Same goes for the kilowog stuff, apparently Hal has been living with a construct of his dead friend (which I doubt is in any way healthy), this could have been a great way to express Hal’s emotional problems and trauma, but instead we just get no resolution, literally gets abandoned. Same with the knights terror issues, so many teases about Hal’s problems that get no satisfactory resolution at all
This run might have good things sure, but Jeremy’s constant rejection of Hal’s growth as a character after LITERALLY regressing him for any previous development of past runs makes it really hard and tiring to read imo

@@DammitFC whole heartedly agree, its hard for me to be invested when the potential growth goes nowhere.

@@Ashguy733 also, let’s not mention he literally stripped Hal of any of his previous growth on any past runs, no wonder people say Jeremy’s writing feels like fanfiction, he’s literally abandoning canon at this point imo.
He gave Hal the Spider-Man treatment, first he de-aged him, then exaggerated his flaws, made him more immature, cucked him (though that’s more on previous writers) and doesn’t let him grow as a character, this inability of modern writers to let characters evolve is getting so tiring.

@@DammitFCthat isn’t just him as a writer and most new writers take the series in a new direction in one or another. His run is overall good regardless of some small
Hiccups but everyone will have their own takeaways from this. Character growth is needed but small steps no matter what they are is better than none

3:05 This is a really great observation! I'm really enjoying war journal and I think the way both that and the current GL run by Adams are using multiversal lanterns and their designs to help grow the mythos, I feel like it's a great way to expand things similarly to the emotional spectrum when we see stuff like the John we know compared to "The Architect" and the ways they differ

Thanks for the review! It looks like things are picking up again. Carol and Hal will always get back together. It is a shame due to the nature of corporate comics and telling stories about characters that never can grow. I will say Hal and Carol are both adventurous spirits that get back together due to the thrill they share of the super-extraordinary world they live in. It was a great move by Johns to get Carol involved with a lantern core so she could reach the same heights Hal can. I hope Sinestro, Articious, and Larfleeze are on their way. The sooner the better. I watched an overview on the Absolute Power tie-ins. They are pretty sweet. Cannot wait for your take on them. Take care and peace everyone.
