Had the absolute pleasure to stand right next to Rob in the pit at this show. He is such a chill guy, humble, and a HUGE fan. Getting to see his reaction after playing is something that I will absolutely never forget. I have never been happier for someone who I don't really know. I can't stop replaying it in my mind 4 days later!
Keith Urban is never not playing an instrument at his concerts... I love the fact that once he heard this guy play, he just went ahead and did the song without a guitar for himself. Really let the fan shine up there!
Christine, I've watched it numerous times. He makes the song better than the original. Plus, I watch it as a mother and I feel so happy that this talented young man seized the opportunity of a lifetime and blew people away with his talent.
Let me tell you this Rob - I've been a pro for 34 years and on the few occasions that I have played someone else's guitar, it never feels "right" like your own; the strings are different, the neck is different, the strap is too long or short. But, man, you just started out like it has always been your guitar. Very well done mate, from the UK.
I am 78 years old,I have been listening to you since you first started singing.this song I love.I blast it on my car radio. This kid is a great guitar player, thanks for giving him a great nite.
Everybody including the band was clearly having the time of their lives....so many people have said this but I am gonna say it anyway....Rob just makes it looks so easy.. He had total command of the stage for that five minutes and his playing was so smooth and effortless, you would never think he had never in his life played in front of so many people.
This is one of the coolest videos on UA-cam, and I suspect thousands out there would agree. Why? Because Keith was generous enough to allow Rob to play in the first place, and then because Rob totally justified the faith that everyone had in him. An amazing, heartwarming performance by all!
for anybody who has not hrd, Rob is currently touring and playing backing guitar in Riley Green's band...most definitely, "Good Things" are coming his way in a BIG way.....way to go Rob!
I have no idea how many times I've watched this over the course of the last few months. I love this. It makes me happy every time I watch it. Thanks Keith for taking a chance on a fan, and awesome job to Rob. May your dreams come true whatever they may be.
Bless you, Keith, for giving Rob such a lucky break as this! I can imagine as a professional performer that it must be hard to trust that a fan who makes a request to come up and play is really as good as he says he is and not disastrously bomb during your show, but in this case, Rob came through and wowed us all, and you too, as we can tell. Rob is dang famous all around the world now, and I'm sure doors have opened in the music world, and he owes it all to your generous heart and your willingness to take a chance with a complete unknown from the audience. Like you say afterwards..."That was badass!"
Don't know if you read this Mr. Urban, but you are AWESOME! To make a fan's dream come true..and all of us who play and wish we could have been Rob...we can kinda live through this awesome act of kindness you showed. And Rob was awesome! Gotta find your next concert close to me ..Top Notch Brother! God bless! Rock n roll!
UNBELIEVABLE TALENT. Only Keith Urban who appreciates his fans from his heart would invite someone on stage to play along on stage. I believe Keith was surprised & blown away, not thinking the sound was almost exactly as his. Even Jerry Flowers playing base was smiling thinking " wow, this guys can play with us". How kind hearted & kind is Keith Urban. Bravo to Keith & Rob
Just brilliant Rob nailed it and I just love the fact Keith rolled with it. That's the difference when you get to see a true artist who has played from a small gig of 6 people to a stadium full. I could watch this again and again and understand the complete thrill Rob has experienced that will live with him forever.
Funniest part is, fan plays opening riff, and then Keiths like"wtf, seems he can ...." .... *drums kick in* ....Keiths like, " whhaaaat... ok... you're onboard too.... I guess, we're doing this!"
WOW!!!! Talk about auditioning under pressure and over delivering. Hopefully Rob can get some help from Keith to make his dream job become a reality. Kudos to the sound and light techs, as well as the band for jumping in and making this a truly amazing performance.
Rob, I think each and every one of us wishes that was us up there but thank God it was you!! Great solo!!!!! Awesome job!! Cheers to Keith for his involvement with the crowd.
I cannot stop watching this and I hate to confess that I don't even know Keith Urban's music. Such an awesome experience for Rob and I really hope he is able to make his dreams come true after this performance. Keith is a great example of a successful artist that is humble down to the core for allowing this young man the opportunity to showcase his talent in such an amazing way.
Keiths face says it all when Rob started and he went back to stage start singing. And the way Keith take a step back and let Rob shine at the stage is priceless, I wonder if Keith have feel that naked without a instrument at stage ever before. Thanks to Keith and his band and crew for giving Rob and us that awesome feelgood momemt 👏
Just one of the things I love about Keith . . . His kindness and generosity of spirit! And how about Rob up there killing it at a Keith urban show???!!! Well done buddy . . .
the night that this happened I had a gig myself. I didn't see this until a couple of days later. Warms my heart to see a star bring up an audience member and let him loose on one of Keith's tunes. The boy can PLAY and Keith definitely let him shine. He'll remember this for a long time.
Bet I've seen this a hundred times. Somehow always come back around to it. Rob was the guy with the chops in the right place in the right time, and Keith was his awesome generous self. But I have to say it was the drummer who lit the fuse that that turned this whole thing loose. He jumped in and made it "real," prompting the rest of the band to join in. Kudos to the lighting tech and the sound engineer for being right there too.
I love how, when Rob starts playing, KU just turns around and stands there for a bit. He was like, "Holy crap dude, you can PLAY!! Then he encourages him to keep going after the first chorus. Keith knew instantly that Rob was one bad-ass guitar player and was very proud to just let Rob take the limelight for the entire song.
Loved this - I don't think it was staged for a moment. Just luck that he was seen and country stars do this king of thing. Keith was looking for a guitar but quickly realized he didn't need it with this kid. The band, jumping in, they are pros and that was easy blend for them.
Keith you are my favorite Country singer forever and no one will be as good as you in my opinion. I liked watching you live in Central Point Oregon. My favorite song is The Fighter. Hope to see you again in Central Point Oregon at another country crossings Festivile. Hopefully soon.
cannot wipe the smile off my face!! What an amazing time! Congrats to all that had fun that night and thanks to the Keith Team for posting this! gonna smile some more! :) :) :)
I seriously doubt it was staged. There are several moments in the vid that clearly point this out. Even if it was staged, it is one hell of a performance that put a smile on my face. Wife and I probably own half the views! ;-) Urban is one fantastic performer and musician. We are followers for life! God bless!
I love how everyone seems to be like "eh okay another fan he'll barely play something and we'll move on." Then they're like "oh crap...this guy can play. Let's do this!" I literally just listed to the recorded version of the song and I have to say that I like this live version better. Well done everyone!
Man, this gave me goose bumps and made me smile! I'm gettin' old now but I've been a amateur musician all my life and I wanna' say thanks for sharing a dream that every damn one of us hold in our hearts! AWESOME bro and look forward to seeing you in the charts one day :0)
what happen to this guy this was amazing and even if this was a moment in time it will be forever remembered its a go to fun watch for me on my top 10 god bless Keith and this was a fabulous dream come true
dude that is bad ass an what made it better was Keith Urban just did the song right there it's pretty cool and I wouldn't surprise if u end up on tour with him in near future
He deserves it and more.. He performs and talks to fans with such passion and is indeed natural and yes I agree very humble.. Shows true respect , appreciates and loves his fans.. He grabs your heart with his music and you can feel all emotions.. #1 Love you Keith
That was truly amazing... I can't stop watching it. But that took a lot of guts on Keith's part. That solo could have gone south but I think Keith had an instinct that helped make it happen. End result: unique and exhilarating music moment. Well done everyone. Looking forward to watching your rise Rob...
Rob related in interviews that his original intention was to just play a little snippet, the opening riff, to show Keith that he really could play good....but then the drummer kicked in, and Rob, without missing a beat, just kept playing and the bass also joined in. This is so special because of all the videos I have seen of Keith bringing up people onstage to play a song with him, this is the only one where the whole band joins in with the guest player. truly awesome!
I noticed that too. It's worth noting that Rob was playing the song pretty differently from how Keith does it. It's faster, and the first verse is normally just synth with the guitar not coming in until the chorus. Major respect to Keith, Seth Rasuch (drums), and Jerry Flowers (bass) for understanding what Rob was doing in real time and playing along.
@@ischmidt I've seen this video too many times to admit because its so freaking awesome. I just noticed that when the drummer kicks in, I think it surprised Rob because he turned to look at him. They're true professionals and masters of their craft when they can just jump in like that and make it look like the whole thing was planned and practiced.
This is awesome! Made me sooo happy watching this! Keith is an undeniable legend for many reasons. This is just one more reason to like him more. What a birthday present! Something any muso only dreams of. This dude owned it! Fantastic job Rob! You are worthy to stand alongside the talent up there! Rock on!!! :-)
the crowd was equally as amazing as you were up there with no less than Keith urban and his very supportive band/team. and ur gf (lex) was obviously so proud of you. thank y'all for this great smiles on our faces & hearts!
The man is so unselfish wow!!!! What a feeling that must of been to get up there and jam with Keith. And my hats off to you Rob!!!! You killed it buddy!
It's all about the reactions. Check out the other people on UA-cam with the angles showing Keith's face when Rob starts going into the intro riff. You can not fake that he was genuinely surprised. Then he was waiving his crew in to get him a guitar in order to not embarrass Rob and cover any mistakes to play over him. After Rob got into the song he waived off the spare guitar and got into it. The band was on break they just heard their song and jumped in one at a time watch again it wasn't planned etc. Also the lighting and sound took over once base and drums came in awesome once in a lifetime situation. I don't listen to this music at all I just tripped into this and to me it looks genuine and happy for Rob. If you dig into his name you can see he's been covering Keith's songs for some time so to me it's genuine and I'm hoping to see more of both Keith and Rob I am a new fan of both. More positive vibes and videos like these should be around.....
Totally: his "never mind, he's got it" signal is both respect for Rob and also a "stand up, guys" for the band. Beautiful, generous gesture aside, that's a tight crew, I tell you.
wetworks87, I totally agree. I played music for 25 years and the reactions of EVERYONE were genuine. The band, lighting techs, sound, everything... It all just came together for a magical moment. It was AMAZING.
Talk about getting that one chance and knocking it out of the park. WOW! Just love this video. Like the way Keith gets more into the tune as Rob plays his part.
Keith the kindness you exhibit is just stunning. Wish I had been back home in my home state to witness this 1st hand. I have watched some of your old interviews. One that is bit rare when you go back home and do an interview on a talk show. Someone who has never forgot the road to where you are now. Highlight of 2016 hands down. You have a great heart and it is in the right place. Rob is for sure blessed with a gift. It is going to be fun watching his journey.
That was so well done it doesn't seem possible that band and crew could just hop on in like that. But it sounded so genuine. Thanks Keith for sharing that with an obviously talented fan (and his very supportive girl friend.) That's entertainment.
That is so fucking cool. If i were a rock star, I'd do stuff like this all the time. Rob's performance goes without saying, but kudos to Urban for making it happen. I think he enjoyed it as much as Rob did.
Rob (and KU), you made a memory my man. Keep living with no limits. My cousin in Idaho "liked" this and he usually has pretty good taste in content and this was a great reminder of how good and special people can be, and can be to eachother. We sure need that on day 319 (of US' newest President's term) haHa You can see the band and the crowd enjoyed this a lot too. Thanks!
🖤🥀WOW🔥Nice playing Rob🔥I watched this video about 5 or 6yrs ago and he blew my mind I thought it was arranged to be a joke like was Keith Urban announcing our new guitarist for stage purposes lmbo and I saw the shock on Keith's face he did great ! Thanks for posting this video/song it's priceless and unbelievable🥀🤘🎸🤘🎸
Thank you Keith!!
Rob, you are an exceptional talent! Nerves of steal too....WELL DONE!
I know nothing but I'm pretty sure you will get your dream job if a position becomes vacant. That was awesome!!
OMG that was AMAZING :-O
You blew everyone's mind!
You rock it man! awesome job!!!!
Five years on and I'm still watching this......
Had the absolute pleasure to stand right next to Rob in the pit at this show. He is such a chill guy, humble, and a HUGE fan. Getting to see his reaction after playing is something that I will absolutely never forget. I have never been happier for someone who I don't really know. I can't stop replaying it in my mind 4 days later!
hearing your side is also humbling! to hear what happened afterwards, that's awesome for him!
Just catching this video now on UA-cam. Hey Rob, you made Massachusetts proud. What an opportunity for you! Awesome playing!
lol be this video !! I’ve watched many times .. Robs joy transcends... right on , mr Urban... couldn’t love ya more !!
That's fantastic, Jay! I can't fathom the width of his smile after coming down from playing that.
Keith Urban is never not playing an instrument at his concerts... I love the fact that once he heard this guy play, he just went ahead and did the song without a guitar for himself. Really let the fan shine up there!
I know! Keith is a wonderful guy! This guy really took the show!
It shows, Keith got more comfortable as it went along, but he missed his guitar for at least a minute. Maybe he doesn't like holding the mic.
passemup2 Yeah, he definitely gives the audience more than they pay for!
A wonderful man ....K U !!!!!!
Just listen to him live his dream through the words of Keith. If that isn't Divine, I don't know what is.
I can't count how many times I've watched this now. He's freakin awesome!
Christine, I've watched it numerous times. He makes the song better than the original. Plus, I watch it as a mother and I feel so happy that this talented young man seized the opportunity of a lifetime and blew people away with his talent.
Anyone who doesn't love this...doesn't love music. Rob, you absolutely killed it, and Keith was ON POINT. Congrats for a once-in-a-lifetime shot!
playing keith's guitar... oh my god that guy must've been in heaven thats so freaking cool
One of the most generous, selfless, things I have ever seen a performer do...and Rob just NAILED it...
Been a player myself for 20 years and I totally agree. Hell I still have days when I pick up MY guitar and sound like garbage lolol.
I am 78 years old,I have been listening to you since you first started singing.this song I love.I blast it on my car radio. This kid is a great guitar player, thanks for giving him a great nite.
I don't know who was having the most fun Keith or Rob!!!! A dream of so many fans out there...Congrats Rob a birthday gift you will never forget!! :)
Happy Birthday Rob ! ! !

Shawn Pierce :-) Love when the band member's start playing along. Love when they turn on the fancy lights. Love Rob's solos. Love the whole thing.
I cannot stop watching this and I hate to confess that I don't even know Keith Urban's music. Wow !! That young man can really play…!
He nailed it note perfect….
What a fantastic future ahead there for Rob...
it goes to show you what an authentic person Keith Urban is and what a dream come true for Rob it is to be plucked from the audience like that.

I was there and it was fantastic. I was there I could not believe how great he was Thanks for the show To Keith and Rob Cindy Dobson
This is just plain and simply awesome. Congrats Rob you were Great. 👍
THAT. WAS. AWESOME!!
That dude has had his dream come true!
Totally slayed this!.Great job Rob and props to Keith Urban for giving him the opportunity of a life-time.
Rob looked and played like he was a member of the band! A natural! Awesome job Rob!

I watched a number of videos of this. It is just so awesome. I can't stop.
One of those magical moments wow lucky guy, he went ready and it paid off.
The drummer instigated it all....everyone was like... uhh... not sure... but... drummer set the pace
delesdog just saw this show this past Saturday and that drummer is so good you forget he is there. That drummer stayed with Rob the whole time.
Rob related in interviews that his original intention was to just play a little snippet, the opening riff, to show Keith that he really could play good....but then the drummer kicked in, and Rob, without missing a beat, just kept playing and the bass also joined in.
Dude killed it like he wrote it
Thanks, Keith, for taking the chance on Rob! Fantastic job! We'll see you in New Orleans!!!
That was so well done it doesn't seem possible that band and crew could just hop on in like that. But it sounded so genuine. Thanks Keith for sharing that with an obviously talented fan (and his very supportive girl friend.) That's entertainment.
they could easily hop in, they know their own music when they heard him start playing.
Very easy to just hop in on a song they play every show. Especially because the kid also knew the song and played it perfectly.
Wow, that was totally awesome !!!
Rowan the guy out of the crowd played really well. Good on you Keith !!!!! Loved it !!!!
Awesome job!!! Loved it

Thanks!
Amazing for sure! Good on you Mr. Urban for making a this young man's dream a reality!
